- Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Still waiting to receive some orders!
- Weekend plans: Take a bit of a breather as I think I made it through a lot of recent releases! Maybe a DOUBLE nap on Saturday.
- What’s a quirk about yourself that you love?: If you hear it from my husband, I’m practically all quirks. When I get the urge to buy something for me, I usually channel it into buying something that someone I love needs instead!

Recent Purchases: Nothing that has arrived
Weekend Plans: sleep, making tea, reading
A Quirk I Love About Myself: My bookshelf is organized by spine height than color. With one shelf of particular favorites!!
Recent Purchases: I found a good deal on the Viseart Coy palette, which I’ve wanted for ages. I also purchased a set of the Grande Cosmetics lash serum, brow serum and mascara at the Sephora VIB sale today. Also, Christmas shopping.
Rediscoveries: My Juvia’s Place The Nomad Palette. It’s the perfect time of year for his palette, and I find myself enjoying the JP formula more and more.
Weekend plans: No plans! My son and I have a cold, so just chilling this weekend.
What’s a quirk about yourself that you love? That’s a hard one! I’m always keeping notes on passing remarks of things my loved ones like so I can surprise them with it at some point as a gift.
Oh, I haven’t thought about the Coy palette for a while! It’s so pretty. I should break it out sometime soon.
The swatches I’ve seen of Coy online don’t do it justice! The shadows are so sophisticated and twinkly!
It’s always easy to catch a cold at the passing of the seasons and I hope both you and your son recover quickly.
That taupe/champagne shimmer in the Nomad palette is to die for, lovely range of shades.
Thank you, Genevieve! I know this cold season will probably be rough because last fall/winter everyone was quarantined.
The Nomad is so lovely! I never used to enjoy the JP shimmer formula, but my tastes and style have changed so much in the last couple of years that I’ve rediscovered brands and formulas that I never liked previously, but also never decluttered.
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Nothing new… guess I’ll postpone purchases until those Black Friday deals.
Weekend plans: Most of my plans moved to the next two weekends, so I think I’ll try to rest (it has been a crazy week at work). Plenty of calls with family (my brother, uncle and grandfather will celebrate their name day), a hike, washing my car before service (I feel ashamed if it’s not spot clean ), chores, groceries, cooking, finishing my current book.
What’s a quirk about yourself that you love?: I have plenty of quirks, but most nothing to love. 😅 I’m usually pretty obsessive in nature, need to have all things done in a specific way. Some might consider the fact that I care too much and stress about everything a bad quirk, but I have grown to love this about myself; because even if I have a high stress level, this makes me to go above and beyond for the people and things I care; I might be annoying, but I get things done.
I’m so glad you found a treadmill place for Winston! There are far too many people in AZ who will take their dogs out in the heat with no regard for their little paws. I saw it here in WA, too, when we had the heatwaves this summer.
Purchases: My Little & Grim order arrived, just in time because I am scraping the edges of my last tub of lotion. Unfortunately, I REALLY dislike one of the scents I ordered. Maybe it will smell better on my spouse.
Just now, I placed my Sephora holiday sale order. Since they have Sephora Collection on sale for 30% off, I not only replaced my Bright Future gel concealer (a holy grail item for me, and something I use all the time right now for looking better on camera), but I also bought one of their liquid lipsticks in a nice plummy-looking shade. And I ordered my favorite Fresh Sugar lip balm, which I am almost out of and am going through even more quickly thanks to the cold weather.
Weekend plans: Our local gin distillery is having their 6th anniversary celebration tomorrow, so we’ll pop in. Also have to go to Target. We’ll get some manner of takeout for dinner. Otherwise, since we’re both doing National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), LOTS of writing!
A quirk about myself that I love: I’m the sort of person who likes to have a broad base of knowledge about the things I’m interested in. I love this, because not only do I get to enjoy learning about my hobbies, but then I can serve as a source of information for my friends! People come to me for makeup advice, cocktail ideas, book recommendations, insect IDs (I can’t actually ID most of them, unless it’s something really unique, lol). I get to feel useful and have a fun conversation, too.
Oooh. No one I know wanted to listen about this. You actually probably know this already. On a dog walk I saw a weird caterpillar that was so distinctive that I did not have to take it home to ID it. It was a sphinx moth caterpillar. With a slight segue online, I found the RECORDING of a near relative, because some SPHINX CATERPILLARS CAN ‘TALK!’ Blew me away for a long time. And all I got was the side eye. Why didn’t anybody thing this was totally amazing? If I have the video clip bookmarked, I’ll put the url here some Fri. I think this is more amazing than figuring out the temp by cricket chirps. The world of communication is far wider than anyone realizes.
kjh, I did not know about that already! I Googled and found video of the sound. That’s so cool! I did feel bad for the caterpillar in the video I found, they kept pinching its little butt with tweezers to make it hiss — I’d hiss if you pinched me, too!
The first time I saw an adult sphinx moth I was blown away. I was like… is it a hummingbird? or a moth? I literally had this moment of thinking that I was in some alien world where a hybrid of both is possible. They are SO COOL.
Anyway, any time you want someone to be excited about a cool insect or nature thing you just learned, reach out to me! I love this stuff 🙂
I have noticed AJ how wide ranging your interests are and you seem to be quite curious about all kinds of things, people and places. I can quite imagine people coming to you for advice for their makeup, cocktails and so on.
It is so nice to hear that it shows even in these short posts on Temptalia 🙂
Aww! He’s really getting the hang of it!
Purchases/rediscoveries: Will update later today on my Sephora haul. I haven’t hit “purchase” yet. Yesterday, I rediscovered my highly neglected Nabla Cutie palette. It is roughly 3 years old. Should have still been fine to use, amiright? Nooo! It was very difficult to pick up the “latex” shades on my brush this time and my eyes got super irritated when I removed it last night after I got home from a food shopping run with my friend.
Weekend plans: Dye my roots, do my Zoom meeting tomorrow morning, I hope. Do some laundry. Keep busy so that I don’t have to think about what’s coming up in the not so distant future. I had my pelvic MRI and the very next morning my Doc called me to let me know that the mass in my uterus is like nothing else she’s ever seen, and due to a family history of uterine sarcoma cancer, I need a full hysterectomy. She said something about the surgeon and two weeks from now, but for the life of me, I couldn’t figure out if she meant that the surgery was in two weeks or possibly that the surgeon would call me next week? I was THAT dazed and confused! My BFF of over 40 years called my son in order to let him know, since he refuses to pick up the phone when I tried to call him to tell him. This whole rift over his going into QAnon has torn me up. I don’t even know how to cry and let it out, either. All I do know for sure is that I do still love him, and that our family has been through the ringer this past year. I am so tired.
What quirk about you do you love? Since I’m just very quirky and a bit different in so many ways, I suppose I embrace most of my quirks. Because they make me the “me-ist” me that I can be! (Yeah, I still love Dr. Seuss at 62 years old, LOL).
UPDATE: Just placed an order with Sephora for my 2 HG products, Drunk Elephant Protini Peptide Cream and Dr. Dennis Gross Ferulic Acid & Retinol Eye Serum. Best I could do, since I may have overdone getting soft, comfy clothes for after surgery. So my stupid broke @$$ couldn’t do the ND Retro Midi palette. Oh well. Next month, for sure when they issue that $20 or is it $25 coupon, I’m so getting that then to cheer myself up!
You know I keep you in my thoughts, Nancy.
I hope you’ll get the Retro palette next month, just in time when you feel a bit better and stronger again. It’ll be perfect then and you’ll have so much pleasure creating lovely looks with it.
I hope your son comes around soon.
All the very best!
Sending all my good thoughts to you and hugs too. Stay strong and positive, try to get as much rest as you can so you can think clearly (I know it’s hard). Try to distract yourself with things that you love to do. And know we are all thinking and praying for you!
I am so sorry to hear this, Nancy! You are in my prayers. I hope the surgery goes well and that you have a complete recovery.
I am so sorry you are going to need surgery, Nancy. Can you find a friend to be with you when you talk to your doctors? It is very hard to focus on what they are saying when you are under so much stress and it helps to have someone with you to take notes and also make sure your questions are being asked and answered.
Oh no, Nancy! You never really want to hear “like nothing I’ve ever seen” from a doctor. You will be in my thoughts. I hope that your surgery goes well and that the growth was contained just to the uterus. I also hope that somehow, someway, your son will find his way out of the QAnon hole and back to you.
Seuss is cancelled, you know, for being culturally inappropriate about Asians. They haven’t gotten around to cancelling Lawrence Olivier for playing Othello yet. Actually, I think we should be promoting the good things about people, rather than tearing them down. I’m sorry that your son is involved with QAnon, especially at a time when you need him. He will probably come around eventually. Meanwhile, keep positive and get your best outcome from your surgery. You are stronger than you know.
Olivier did Othello in the early 1960s, a long time ago. It was a powerful performance. Maggie Smith was a lovely Desdemona and Frank Finlay was better than I would have thought as Iago.
No, I didn’t see it on stage, but have it on video and maybe on DVD as well.
For things written, performed, recorded, filmed and so on a long time ago, in a less enlightened time I think we have to put on historic glasses, we can’t cancel everything because it is disturbing or offensive today. If we did we’d not have much of anything left when it comes to old movies, books, plays and so on.
I find it better if you talk about the issues, explain it and the way people saw the world at that time. We evolve, hopefully, and we have to learn from the past.
Oh, and I’m an old time fan of Olivier, I still try to collect all of his films, or at least watch them.
Sorry for kidnapping this thread!
Helene, I wholeheartedly agree with what you have stated. That world of half a century or so was such a different world. Now, if someone pulled some of these things in the past 30 years roundabout, it really would be cancel worthy! I speak from someone who belongs to a multi-racial, multi-ethnic family, I’m half Indigenous myself. I did flat out REFUSE to bring my children to see that Disney Pocahontas movie, because it was in our time, so Disney ought to have known better.
Thank you!
And exactly what I mean. the difference between now and then.
It’s a bit late where I am so I won’t be posting anything of mine but I couldn’t read your post and say silent!.. I want to say I’ll be keeping you in my thoughts & I’m wishing you the very best and a speedy recovery! Stay strong and try not to fret too much about the surgery (well, within possible & reason, obviously!).
I know quite a few people who’ve had an histerectomy ages ago and they’re still fine! I also have an aunt who had Uterine Cancer over 20 years ago and nowadays medicine’s even better- push comes to shove, you’ve got a LOT more options today and there’s no point in anticiping what “might be”, just stick to the present and think of today.
You’re suffering right now and it all looks very bleak but keep busy: start putting some things aside for your stay in hospital, clean the house, listen to the radio, read makeup reviews or go to the shops in person! Do get your doctor to prescribe sth for anxiety if you don’t have anything or maybe ask for sth stronger. There’s a lot of anguish coming through your words and I think you need something to take the edge off.
As for the QAnon thing…. I don’t even know what to say other than those people prey on others and anyone could fall for it given the right circumstances. As a mother, this probably weighs more on you than your health but it isn’t his fault and it isn’t yours either, and now is not the time to make him “change his mind”. Right now your priority has to be you, not him. You need to concentrate on getting through this so you can be around to kick his behind in the future!
Oh Nancy, what heartbreaking news, just after you were worried about pancreatic cancer. I seriously hope your son comes to his senses and calls you. This is such bad, bad luck and you don’t need this at all. Love and prayers coming your way!
Right now, I am feeling so utterly overwhelmed and thankful for all of your support, Everyone! This has been a super stressful, intense year for me. And not so easy for some of my close friends and a beloved family member, either. It has definitely tested me in more ways than I could ever get fully into. But, knowing that I have support here, in my faith based community, 3 very close friends and my very dear daughter, has lifted me up. Given me a sense of hope and a reason to fight for my life. Thank you doesn’t begin to describe my gratitude for all of you! 💜
I’m waiting to hit Sephora tomorrow, to stock up on the items I use all the time and also for some Xmas gifts. I hope they have in stock the things I want to get.
Recent Purchases: The NARS Climax palette.
Weekend Plans: Taking engagement photos with my fiance.
A Quirk I Love About Myself: How I am so dedicated to finding deals and getting good stuff either secondhand or on discount.
Congrats on your engagement!
Recent purchases: the only things I think I bought for myself are the Becca Light Shifter Finishing Veil (it was $12.99 at Marshall’s so even though I know it has a problem with developing “hard pan”, I figured for that price, I couldn’t go wrong), some Joico shampoo – not my favourite one which no longer seems to be available but some other one in a really large bottle – I think it’s “Joiful” which is for fine, thin hair (mine is neither) and I should have probably got the other one – Hydra Splash – but what the heck; I also got a few bottles of Pecksniff’s liquid hand soap – Vetiver & Juniper Berries for me and 2 bottles of Oud Wood and Vetiver for my husband (he really likes it).
Weekend plans: gym tomorrow (session with trainer) and then pretty much taking it easy. I have to shorten some workout tops of husband’s – he likes them but they’re too long for him.
A quirk about myself that I love: my sis in law told me a few years ago that she’s reluctant to tell me she likes something of mine because I’ll just give it to her. I hadn’t realized that but I do like to share things with people that way….either giving them the item (a scarf, an eyeshadow, a cooking pot) or buying them the same one as a gift.
Pecksniff! What a fun name. Both scents sound quite wonderful.
Haul: I didn’t buy anything this week in preparation for the Sephora VIB sale. I have quite a list for that sale and am going to have to go through and eliminate some things or I will be crying when I look at my bank balance.
Weekend plans: Not much. We are suppose to get our first valley snow this weekend so I will stay indoors and snuggle by the heater. I am working on a few Christmas presents. I have been making origami ornaments for my Christmas tree and have had several friends fall in love with some of the tessellations I have been making and they want some so I will probably work on those.
Quirks: I am not sure that I have any quirks, or at least, not that I know of!! I don’t know if it is considered a quirk and if it is, whether it is one I would want to claim but my ex-husband use to complain about the fact that as soon as guests leave, I would be cleaning up the house. I would vacuum, dust and fluff the pillows even if they were only there for a day. I don’t think I do it anymore but that could just be because I don’t have that many visitors out here in the woods.
Why is Winnie at the fancy Spa working out but I’m at the YMCA ,LOl. Looks like he’s enjoying his run. Then he’ll change into his designer bow tie after his massage . Winnie’s living his best dog life being Christine’s boy!
Haul/Rediscoveries: Was really surprised at how much I love the look I did using Pat McGraft’s Voyeuristic eye shadow quad. It didn’t look all that interesting but I love how it looked on my eyes. Also using Christine/Sydney Grace palettes a lot.
Weekend plans: Gotta put my house back together after having my hardwood floors repaired. I have a couple items I purchased to pick up at Sephora. Could only get the new Natasha Denona face palette in store. Me and my daughter need new sneakers. If she feels good we’ll go shopping.
What’s a quirk about yourself that you love? I speak to everybody like we know each other. Not much pretense with me. Also I’m a night owl from a family of night owls.
What a good idea to get Winston a puppy treadmill and it seems like he really enjoys it too.
Recent Purchases: I did order the Lorac Soleil eyeshadow palette because I just adore the shimmer shades and may well be tempted to use a matte or two. Now that shops are open I will probably go to where Sephora is and have a good browse, although our sephora is not a patch on yours in the US.
Rediscoveries: Mostly Lorac Noir this week.
Weekend Plans: A fairly quiet weekend is on the cards as my younger son and his family have gone to visit their friends in a regional town for the weekend. So it will be just some shopping and relaxing.
So probably a nap too.
The weather is quite warm and humid here too, thunderstorms are on the cards for this evening.
A quirk about myself that I love: My perfume and makeup love means that I am fairly knowledgeable about new makeup and trends (thanks to this blog) and my sister and daughter in law turn to me for advice.
I love buying them skincare ( ones that suit them) and beauty products that they love. I always get my daughter in law a huge hamper of beauty products for Christmas to use and she adores it.
I like buying gifts for my friends that they love too.
I am pretty quirky about ironing, I generally enjoy ironing and pretty well iron everything.
I know it’s Sunday and I’m reading Friday’s post, I’m behind! When we moved into this house 17 years ago and my washer started acting up we had to buy a new set. My in-laws had recently bought new LG ones so we went ahead and bought a stacking set as that was what would fit in our laundry room. The washer has a steam cycle on it so I can put my wrinkled items in on a 20 minute cycle and they come out a touch damp, I hang them up and the wrinkles fall out. I very rarely have to iron anymore! I absolutely adore that my washer saves me that extra time!
Recent Purchases: Pink Crush Cosmetics Witch, Please Halloween Eyeshadow Palette, (sale), and some of the Makeup Revolution x Simpsons collection. I had to have the little Raven Bart palette and the a Alien Maggie highlighter. I think I got a Devil Flanders lippie and something else I can’t remember off the top of my head.
Weekend plans: I don’t have anything definite going on. Today is my younger son’s girlfriend’s last day with us, so he and hubby will be flying with her back to NOLA. I’ll probably do some housework and watch some movies with my older son.
What’s a quirk about yourself that you love?: For some reason, birds of all kinds love me. Maybe it’s because I talk to them. At any rate, it’s enough that strangers have remarked on it. I’d rather hang out with birds than most people, so it works out. LOL
Oh Nancy, many prayers going up!
Recent purchases: Replaced my Hourglass Veil Translucent powder, and MUFE stick foundation in Y225.
Trying for the first time the Laura Mercier Secret Blur powder and Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Concealer. Also trying out Supergoop Unseen sunscreen, mini size, and the Tower 28 Sunnydays
Face tint in shade 15. Couldn’t resist the Laniege Allnighter set for Holiday 21. It has a full size Lip
Sleeping Mask in Original and mini sizes in Gingersnap and Peppermint. I should have said at the start
that this is from the Sephora sale.
Weekend Plans: Work, and a bonfire/weenie roast tomorrow night. We are having mild weather this weekend, fortunately for the weenie roast!
A Quirk I Love About Myself:I don’t know that I love this about myself, but I generally don’t go out without at least some makeup on. I apply as a public service, lol
Recent purchase: I bought Charlotte Tilbury Exaggereyes last week. I also ordered Natasha Denona’s Love Palette last week for half off when it went back in stock at Sephora.
Recent rediscovery: Huda Obsession Nude light palette. I used it today and I really enjoy the colors on me.
Weekend Plans: Rest, take a walk and sleep
A Quirk I love about myself: I love to buy books.
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: My Temptalia 15th Anniversary ColourPop stuff arrived! I bought 6 of the returning items!
Weekend plans: Visit with my brother, make some tempura shrimp, organize some new eyeshadow singles into a magnetic palette.
What’s a quirk about yourself that you love?: I’ll burst into random upbeat song when I get scared/spooked by something.
Winston is so cute on his treadmill!
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Waiting for my Temptalia 15 years CP order.
Weekend plans: Nothing really. I might watch something on Netflix or HBO or read. It’s raining and quite cold, so I’ll stay indoors as much as possible.
What’s a quirk about yourself that you love? Quirk that I love? I have many I don’t really care for and try to get rid of, but one I love, that’s hard.
No, can’t think of any.
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Purchased Sephora Brand liquid lipstick in the shade Vintage Rosewood. It sounds very nice for colder weather.
Weekend plans: Relaxing!
What’s a quirk about yourself that you love?: I am strangely good at guessing the height of people, particularly men. Maybe that is a weird talent? I am also good at finding the positive in situations and looking for outside-the-box solutions to problems.
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: I placed my Sephora sale order as soon as Rouge access opened up! I chose a travel-size Maison Margiela Jazz Club cologne, UD x Marvel Eternals Cosmic Eternal and Cosmic Mission eyeliners, and Charlotte Tilbury lipsticks in Wedding Belles, First Dance, and Pillow Talk Medium and Intense; and I added the NARS birthday gift because today’s (11-6) my birthday! I also placed a Beautylish order for the Kevyn Aucoin Prismagic highlighter trio palette. Tonight I opened the birthday gifts that my parents got me-they included Charlotte Tilbury Night Crimson lipstick, a Rare Beauty foundation sponge, a gray Sephora foundation sponge case, a Sephora hearts New York makeup bag, a small copper-and-crystal thing that might hold makeup or a tealight, and a translucent smoky purple plastic 3-piece makeup organizer.
Weekend plans: Takeout and groceries yesterday, work all day and opening parental birthday gifts tonight, mom’s side is having a joint birthday party for an uncle and I tomorrow (his birthday falls this weekend too).
What’s a quirk about yourself that you love?: I don’t know if this really counts as a quirk, but when I run into a problem, I will try everything I can possibly think of to solve it myself before concluding that I’ve exhausted my options and I need to ask for help.
I ended making a second Sephora sale order: 2 more Sephora City makeup bags-Vegas and Miami, because Miami was low in stock-and Charlotte Tilbury Gracefully Pink lipstick. Gifts from the family members on my mom’s side included Charlotte Tilbury Supermodel lipstick, a travel-size Maison Margiela Coffee Break cologne, a $10 Sephora gift card, and a 12-pan Lauren Conrad eyeshadow palette.
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: I made a belated purchase of the Truly Beauty Halloween collection, since I’ve decided to review the summer and fall collection together in one video.
Weekend plans: Working both Friday and Sunday, probably spending Saturday just relaxing and/or working on a video
What’s a quirk about yourself that you love?: I can’t sneeze facing people, I literally start running away as soon as I feel it coming on
