Recent purchases: Just bought three palettes from this little collaboration. Not sure if any of you have heard of it? 😉
I got Quintessence in Deep and the others in Light! I also nabbed Dear Reader while I was at it.
Weekend plans: I think we’re going to walk down to the Farmer’s Market tomorrow. Also need to do yard work, the recent rain means the weeds have really sprung up!
Words of Wisdom: Not really a single phrase, but kind of the whole concept of creating a new “normal” as we emerge from the long quarantine. I’m really reconsidering how I want to spend my time and energy going forward, and I’ve already set some boundaries (some in-laws I don’t like basically wanted to come visit us as soon as we were vaccinated and I put my foot down, for instance). This year+ has really driven home how we don’t know how much time we have, so we should be really mindful of how we spend it and who we spend it with.
😂 Hope you get them soon, AJ!
Thanks Christine, me too! 😀 My order was updated as “Shipped” yesterday, so as long as there isn’t too much delay from the time SG printed the label to the time the PO gets it, I imagine they should arrive sometime in the coming week. They’re shipping from CA and I’m in WA so it’s just a nice trip up the coast for them, lol.
AFAIK, they usually get packages into the system within a day or two of being printed! (My last order was in December last year.) Fingers crossed it arrives this week!
Yep, shipping says it has departed the Sacramento sorting facility and should be here on TUESDAY! Yaaaaay! Guess I should go clean my makeup brushes so I’ll be ready 🙂
oooh, very nice!
Even better, they arrived TODAY! I’m already wearing Earthbound, Desert Spoon and Heart Dog! Now to go see how they hold up to a sweaty dance class since we’re in a heatwave 😉
YAY! So glad they arrived. Impressed that you already put some of them on! Have a nice class 🙂
Winston is indescribably delicious.
I just ordered On The Horizon in the light version plus a single of Red Chameleon as a backup for Sponsored in the Jackie Aina palette. That is all.
Perfection 🙂 Thank you, Lesley!
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: So I sprung for the SG collection, haha! Like a lot of us did, I’m sure. I went with all light, I feel like with my coloring the light palettes would be my best bet. I watched Mel Thompson’s demo last night, and it has got me super stoked to try out these jewel tones. I don’t have a lot of deep, vibrant shades like these!
Weekend plans: I’m going to finish some writing. It’s gonna happen. I’m going to stay dedicated and focused!
Morgan Freeman narration: and she played video games all weekend long.
What words have wisdom have really resonated with you in the last year?: So a movie I really like is Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, and one of the mains would repeat this great line: “It’ll all be okay in the end. If it’s not okay, it’s not the end”. Of course, I’m paraphrasing, but the gist of it stands. I’ve told myself that a lot in the last year, to remember that trials are temporary and it’ll be okay. I just have to stay strong. It’s hard, but the saying is comforting anyway.
Thank you so much, Sarah! 🙂
Get your writing done! You can do it!
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries:
I’m waiting for the items I purchased from Jaclyn’s new Bougie line, likely arrive late next week.
Weekend plans:
Dogs, beach. We watch closely for low tides (it’s all of our favourite time) and it looks like we’ll have some good weekend tidal flats. My parents are coming to visit! They finally have their second shot. My husband and I are likely a few weeks out yet.
Words have wisdom have really resonated in the last year:
Definitely something along the lines of what’s truly important, and priorities. Those have become very clear in the last 15 months.
Recent purchases: Oh, I dunno….nothing really all that exciting except maybe TEMPTALIA’S/Christine’s On the Horizon palette which I just ordered less than 5 minutes ago!!!! I am so excited. SOOOO excited!
Weekend plans: Fathers Day brunch (my daughter and her husband will be the only kids here and we’ll brunch on the deck…still exercising an abundance of caution in my area); finalizing my report card comments, RELAXING a bit.
Words of wisdom: people matter more than money, more than “stuff” – family, friends, loved ones are the real treasures in life. Touch and human contact are so important. And good health – oh, gosh, has the past year (and a half or more) driven home how important it is to care for your health, stay healthy, help those around you stay healthy by using what means science and medicine can provide, including getting vaccinated if your health permits (not everyone’s does).
I still can’t believe you did it, Mariella! I have been telling the story to everyone who will listen around me, LOL. I am just so, so overwhelmed with joy. Thank you!
Winston’s such a smart boy! Good luck with your eye palettes launch today, Christine. I’ve bought my bundle and the single, and I’m to excited for words. Congratulations again!
RECENT PURCHASES: XZX Cosmetics 420 Palette; Bad&Bruja Lashes Exorcism and Chill Palette (prettier than it sounds, but just as funny); Amazon — Empty cushion compacts; Target — Sheer Zinc Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50 in cream and stick forms. Nordstrom Rack — Lime Crime Hi-Lite 3-Color Highlighter Palettes in Angels and Mermaids; MAC Bronzing 2020 Eyeshadow in Sunphoria, and Becca Mystery Shade Highlighter in Dreamsicle.
WEEKEND PLANS: Sunday we’re leaving on a mini-vacation camping in eastern Oregon. Today I’ll do my job paperwork, pack my stuff and help my sons pack, write out emergency numbers and general instructions for my brother, and make a shopping list. Tomorrow I’ll go shopping with my husband and help him pack up the camper. Sunday we’ll leave. We’ll go to a couple museums, visit the John Day Fossil Beds, visit a lava cave lava beds, and generally enjoy the outdoors.
WHAT WORDS OF WISDOM HAVE REALLY RESONATED WITH YOU IN THE LAST YEAR? It seems to me that there was a dearth of wise words this last year, but I’m a cynic.
Thank you, Rachel! I am so happy that it went pretty smoothly – like the site didn’t go dead for hours, and the stock held well for most of the day. I always wanted people to feel like they could think about it and not have to rush to avoid “FOMO”!
I haven’t heard a single person complain about how the launch went. I know a lot who were grateful they didn’t have to set an alarm and fight for palettes.
Phew! Selling out is an ego boost to the brand/collaborator, but it really is at the readers’ expense. Plus, selling out could be the result of doing a really low quantity vs. actually having 100x more people buying. But I know we really were hoping to have plenty on hand, have some ready to go for a pretty quick restock if necessary (they didn’t fill all the packaging components), and try to prevent a 2-3 month wait between restocks.
Rachel – it sounds like you’ll need a vacation AFTER your vacation….all the plans and work you have to do beforehand! I’m feeling worn out just reading it! Joking aside, have a wonderful time!
LOL Thank you! I’m a planner by nature, but considering my kids are special needs, and my brother is also AND he’s housesitting/caring for the pets, I have to make sure they’ve got everything they’ll need. It’s not as much work as it sounds like, actually.
I’m wishing you a wonderful time away, Rachel. The one thing I’ve missed (even though I can be a bit of a home-body) is holiday time. We were planning to go to Denmark LAST year for our 40th anniversary. THAT didn’t happen and we’re hoping it can happen in May of 2022 but, quite honestly, with the Delta variant and the rise of cases in the UK because of the variant they have there (and I believe they “opened” too soon), I am not absolutely counting on it.
I hope you get your trip! We were planning an Australia trip, but COVID happened, and of course they still have travel restrictions.
We changed it to a trip to Oahu for September, to celebrate our 30th anniversary.
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Nothing new beauty wise.
Weekend plans: Find a cool forest to hide from the heatwave, because I want to enjoy my regular Saturday hike. Besides chores, groceries, phone calls with family and cooking, I plan to take it easy on Sunday. We might start returning to work from the office next week; as much as I can’t wait not having to work from home, returning to office after more than a year gives me a little bit of anxiety.
What words have wisdom have really resonated with you in the last year?: This too shall pass. The thing is that no matter what happens, what we do, how we react, things just happen and time goes on. We can either complain or make the best of it. Thing come and go, maybe better things come after, maybe worse. But things pass… and even when we die the world’s just keeps functioning without us.
On the note of your quote, I actually found this year that maybe for me time doesn’t heal wounds. Through this year I definitely uncovered things I believed healed, I forget or forgot. But they’re still part of me and make me who I am; there were pains that never left, I just got used to them so I didn’t notice them. And I’m actually not saying this even in a negative way. Things don’t have to be positive or negative; they can just be things. 🙂
Winston is so cute and smart! He’s watching intently and trying to figure stuff out.
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries : Got my Temptalia/Sydney Grace deep bundle ordered! !! Been wearing and enjoying Natasha Denona’s Zendo palette. Started using my old Dior highlighter quad and Danessa Myricks cream eye shadows are good for a one and done in the hot weather. They last all day on my lids.
Weekend Plans: Refrigerator is finally going up after 17 yrs so I’m looking for a new one.Decluttering my closet. Shopping with my daughter. May go to the outlet mall
What Words of Wisdom have really resonated with you in the last year?
Don’t take people you love for granted. Enjoy every moment with them.
And Zendo pairs so well with the palettes!!
What Danessa Myricks’ shades do you like best for one and done?
Recent Purchases: I got the BH Cosmetics Remix Dance 00’s palette on a whim with my Ulta points.
Rediscoveries: Just realizing how much I enjoy simplifying my routine. I cut out a couple of the steps the last few days and still got just as nice a result, if not nicer and it took a bit less time.
Weekend plans: Hopefully going to the pool with my son and continuing the painting saga… it feels like it will never end!
What words of wisdom have really resonated with you in the last year?: Nothing ever stays the same, everything is in a continuous state of change. While that might be a cause for anxiety for some, I’ve found a lot of comfort in it. Even the darkest times won’t last forever.
Cannot help but fall for baby Winston’s puppy-ish cuteness!
Purchases/rediscoveries: Well, I did the dang thing! A little after 10 a.m., after only around 4 hours sleep, my phone rang and woke me up. Panicked that it would already be sold out, I immediately hit the Sydney Grace site to buy the 3 palette Temptalia bundle and placed my order. Then, a few minutes later, I realized that I forgot to also get the Dear Reader single, so I emailed SG and they added it to my order without any extra shipping! Man, I’m running on pure adrenaline and joy, I tell ya. 😊
Weekend Plans: Other than my Zoom meeting, nothing except trying to survive both our super intense heat wave (118°F yesterday) and a situation over here in this still new to me apartment complex. After only 15 months here, I seriously want to move.
What words have wisdom have really resonated with you in the last year?: There is a very specific scripture that I have been repeating to myself internally all of this past very long, horrible and traumatic year that has likely helped keep me from becoming a statistic. It’s found at Isaiah 41:10 and it reads as follows – “Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be anxious, for I am your God.
I will fortify you, yes, I will help you, I will really hold on to you with my right hand of righteousness”.
Oops! I neglected to mention that it was the Deep trio of palettes I bought. Guess my sleep deprivation is showing…
Awww! I’m so happy to hear SG took care of you, Nancy. I’ve always heard very good customer service stories from them over the years, but obviously I want to make sure we make it right for people as much as we can!
“That’s too much hello “…lol…Winston is so smart and attentive..
Recent purchases ? …Pixi Vit C eye brightener , a Marc Jacobs palette on sale ..
Not sure about this one yet ..the shimmers have a little fallout .
. ( my pet peeve ) it looked like a fairy sneezed on my cheeks and I had to re do my makeup .;)
Words of wisdom ? …
“What your looking for is not out there …it is in you ..”
Wow – Winston has certainly grown and he loves the camera too.
Recent Purchases: I have only ordered some Grown Alchemist shampoos and, surprisingly, some of my very favourite lipstick shade – Maybelline’s Spice for Me from an online retailer Ozsale, who was offering two lipsticks for $10 – fantastic deal, which I snapped up immediately.
Weekend Plans: After the storms of last week, that have damaged many houses in our local area near to and in the hills, lots of people are still without power. Luckily where we live is OK and the weather prediction is for sunny, but cold weather this weekend. We can live with sunny…
On the radar for this weekend is a drive and perhaps a Sunday lunch out, now that our restrictions are easing.
I had a very good report from my specialist this week and I still have a stent in, which has to be removed in the coming weeks. Other than that, I am pretty good.
Words of Wisdom – I think ‘Be kind to yourself and others’ is the one that resonates the most with me because of all the trials and difficulties we have all experienced this past year.
I’m glad you still have power and are doing OK after the storms, and that you’re doing well.
Thank you Rachel – to all of those in zero temps without heating and young families, they are now getting the kind of help they needed from the army with all of their generators. It is just taked 10 days or more to come.
I am feeling better each day and having a little baby in the house really helps.
I’m one of the lucky ones who could schedule my work time around the launch, so I was on the Sydney Grace website when it went live. Had my cart open with a couple non Temptalia shades and my coupon code ready, lol. I got the light version of Quintessence and the dark version of On the Horizon and dark version of Radiant Reflections and Temptalias Dear Reader. So excited for them to get here. Congratulations Christine.
Yay!! Thank you so much, Shari!
Winston! What a cutie he is. I had sound on, and Stubbs the standard schnauzer immediately started barking and run to his favourite window to see what was going on.
On the subject of puppies, I met a delightful 11 weeks boarder collie twice this week. What a darling, so much fun and love in that little body of hers. I didn’t dog-nap her, but I wanted to. 🙂
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Well, not much, I just ordered the light bundle of SG/Temptalia col-lab and the single, and while I was at it, I added three other eyeshadows (down from 10).
Weekend plans: I’m so boring, just the same, dog, garden chores.
What words have wisdom have really resonated with you in the last year?: No, I don’t think there are any, or maybe thinking of the loss of Maserati, and the passing of the son of a dear friend: enjoy today, tomorrow may be too late and: life is fragile.
Oh, not much, just the collab trio and single. 😁 Thank you, Helene! 🙂
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: The Sydney Grace x Temptalia Collection! I got On the Horizon in Deep and the other two in Light, plus the Dear Reader single
Weekend plans: I work Sunday but on Friday my family had an early Father’s Day dinner, and Saturday night I’ll be co-hosting my sister’s livestream again
What words of wisdom have really resonated with you in the last year?: I’ve been having a hard time putting all my feelings about the last year into words. It’s a lot of senseless loss, and time I know I’ll never get back. On top of that I’ve just had so many mixed messages, my parents telling me not to worry about losing a year because I’m still a kid anyway, and my friends constantly fretting that this last year robbed us of the time to start our lives, and that window is closing for us as we age into our mid-20s. So I really can’t pick out some singular words of wisdom because I’ve just heard so many conflicting things
YAY!! Thank you, Kimberly! 🙂
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: I got an Ulta order delivered this week: the 3 KVD Studded Kiss Creme Lolita lipsticks, which were half off, and a new pot of ColourPop Thnks fr th Mmrs blush (I’ve hit pan but still have some left, so I wanted to get the backup before I completely run out).
Weekend plans: Friday was spent getting through severe thunderstorms and my family and I managing not to kill each other during a 4-hour power outage, haha! Yesterday I worked all day and made a grocery trip that was half getting the regular groceries, half replacing ruined cold stuff. There was a quick second grocery run early this evening, but today’s mostly been watching a CSI: Miami marathon on CourtTV Mystery and catching up on the emails I missed.
What words have wisdom have really resonated with you in the last year?: As a tween and early teen, A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket/Daniel Handler was one of my favorite book series. In book 8, The Hostile Hospital, there’s a paragraph-long quote debunking the expression “No news is good news”. What Snicket proposed to replace it-the much more factual “No news is no news”-has really stuck with me, especially in the last year. There are so many possibilities in life that you can’t determine whether the situation you’re in or hearing about will have a positive or negative outcome until it happens or you learn more about it.
