- Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Topicals Faded Serum, Zoya nail polishes (couldn’t resist when they did a 70% off sale a few weeks ago!)
- Weekend plans: Still trying to keep ahead on the blog in anticipation of my parents moving here later on in April!
- What’s your favorite meal: breakfast, lunch, or dinner?: I love having more of a dinner-kind of meal at lunch time, LOL! I prefer eating larger/heavier meals at lunch time but tend to prefer dinner kind of meals (in terms of content).

Mellan was a total pool addict! These photos are from 2011 when he kept swimming and swimming and swimming at my parents’ pool. The life jacket helped him stay afloat, ensured he wouldn’t get tired and drown (though we always supervised the entire time), and helped us have something to grab onto to haul him out of the pool–as he never wanted to leave for long!
We would throw a frisbee throughout his time in the pool to avoid him drinking 45 gallons of pool water. He loved to use his front paws to splash the water and then try to bite at it… which resulted in him looking like he swallowed a keg and peeing every five minutes afterward. I’m glad I was able to take him to a local canine rehab facility and had him swim once in the last couple of the years!

I took advantage of the Sisley Friends and Family sale to buy the black rose oil (I had bought it from a reseller and it’s part of a routine that has made my skin look amazing, so I’m afraid to let it go now 😉 and then also bought their blurring powder to try as their loose powder works so well for me.
Paulas Choice AHA lotion, antioxidant serum, moisturizer with sunscreen. CeraVe pm lotion, retinol serum. Cetaphil lotion and cleanser. MAC Mineralize blush x1 to replace the retired Sincere blush.
Weekend plans is going hiking with the hubby.
Love early dinners.
As always love seeing the Mellan photos and stories you post.
Recent Purchases: A few GlamShop singles… I kept seeing swatches of the shade Tiul and I had to get it.
Rediscoveries: My Beauty Bakerie Cotton Candy Champagne palette… I just mix all the shades together and it’s such a pretty, glowy, springy pink on my cheeks.
Weekend plans: Tomorrow we’re visiting my MIL to help her look at grave headstones for herself and for my late FIL. Kind of morbid, but ever since my FIL passed away after Thanksgiving, she’s been trying to find ways to make her passing in the future easier for us to make arrangements, etc. Which is sweet and also something that’s hard to face (or want to do at all, really). On Sunday I get to see my closest friend for the first time in nearly a year! So excited to see her in person and catch up with her.
What’s your favorite meal: breakfast, lunch, or dinner?: Dinner. I tend to eat a little lighter for the bfast and lunch, and I like cooking a good dinner for my family and me to enjoy together at the end of the day.
I know that’s hard to do with your MIL, but it’s actually a relief when the time comes. Our mom talked with us often and had everything drawn up so that everything went smoothly when the time came. Honestly it was a weight off our shoulders because we were so grief stricken for the first bit that none of us could have made any decisions at that time. My husband and I are getting everything done so our kids don’t have to do anything but go through the house and take what they want. As morbid as it sounds and as much as I didn’t want to talk about it, my mom insisted and I’m glad she did.
Your mother in law sounds like a really sensible and practical person, and this is so helpful for you both when her time comes. It will take a lot of weight off your and her minds to have this all organised.
I hope you have a wonderful time catching up with your friend Celesta – it’s such a precious time to be able to spend it with a girlfriend. You have lots to talk about too.
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Nothing new.
Weekend plans: Nothing special, just the usual, but with a touch of warmer weather. I still want to get more rest, but my sleep is still off. With things opening more and more I should start again being more regular with my eyebrows threading, maybe I’ll start this weekend.
What’s your favorite meal: breakfast, lunch, or dinner?: Personally I like to switch things a lot, I don’t have necessarily a favorite meal. Usually I pick different recipes for most meals of the week and schedule them such that I can combine and re-use the ingredients I prep from one to another.
Even for breakfast, while I do often have oatmeal and I like it, I use different fruit and flavors everyday (one day will be peanut butter and jelly inspired, another peaches and cream, another something savory like mushrooms and butter, or goat cheese and kale).
For meals I do tend to prefer something more salad based earlier in the day (even if it’s a pasta or grain salad), and something warm and hearthy later in the evening (cream soup, roasted veggies).
Also, most times I don’t eat the structure of breakfast-lunch-dinner, I prefer to have 4 medium sized meals rather than 3 bigger ones (and some snacks).
Dogs in the water are such a joy to watch. When I used to spend time at the beach I was always tempted to get a dog because they were having so much fun.
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Two tubes of Thank You Farmer Sun Project Light Sun Essence.
Weekend plans: Zoom Seder on Sunday but I won’t be cooking a meal for it.
What’s your favorite meal: breakfast, lunch, or dinner? I like breakfast foods best and as I am not that hungry in the morning, I often eat breakfast for lunch or dinner. Any version of eggs. Buttered toast. Very occasionally waffles or pancakes. About the only food I miss as a vegetarian is bacon.
Hope you have a happy Passover!
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: None. My son has kept me too busy.
Weekend plans: My husband’s birthday is Sunday. We’ll make him a pineapple upside-down cake. I’m not sure beyond that. My older son is doing much better, but still rapid cycling and being difficult, so a lot depends on how much care he needs.
What’s your favorite meal: breakfast, lunch, or dinner?: Dinner. I’m a night person, and I like dinner foods best.
Happy Birthday to your husband Rachel. I hope everything goes well for you guys this week, enjoy the pineapple cake! I made one for my husband’s birthday at the beginning of the month too lol!
Happy birthday to your husband, Rachel. Pineapple upside down cake sounds yummy. Fingers crossed for your son and that whole situation.
Pineapple upside-down cake sounds delicious. Hope you’re hanging in there!
Happy birthday to your husband Rachel and I hope he enjoys his special day. It’s good news that your eldest son is on the mend, but I do understand that his recovery will take a lot of time, patience and care. Is he home from hospital? It is not easy for you.
Awwww, Mellan was such a happy dog in the pool 🙂
Purchases: My cuticle balm arrived, much to the delight of my cuticles. Sadly, the nail polish I ordered alongside it turned out to be a dud. I’m hoping maybe it was just an issue with my basecoat, but much like a UD 24/7 pencil shadow, it went on unevenly and attempts to smooth it out just ended up lifting the color :/ Now what I did manage to get on is all chipped to heck so I should remove it and put on something else.
Rediscoveries: Nothing, painting my nails was the only makeup I did this week.
Weekend plans: Figure out a plan to replace the busted washer from our new rental place. Eat ice cream. Continue unpacking/settling in.
Favorite meal: Dinner! I eat breakfast and lunch at my desk. I have the same thing for breakfast every day, and pretty similar lunches throughout the week unless Chris makes me something special or I have some leftovers. Dinner is the meal that I get to eat at an actual table and enjoy and have something different (we never repeat the same meal 2x in a week). It helps that I am married to a good cook and we have a lot of good takeout options nearby too 🙂
I miss ice cream! It’s not the same when it’s made with cashew milk or coconut milk, it’s lovely when it’s made with real creaaammmm!
I have had some decent vegan flavors where it was hard to tell the difference… but I also had a coconut-based pumpkin spice flavor that tasted like pumpkin body butter 😛 I think it’s really important to match the non-dairy base carefully to the flavor so it blends in. Like coconut base is great with tropical flavors or chocolate, not so much with a swirl of pumpkin pie, ha ha.
Best wishes on the unpacking, such a boring job to do and I hope you get that washer replaced soonish as well. My son, daughter in law and their three children are moving back into our place next weekend. It’s going to be a challenge, for sure. At the moment I am furiously cleaning out cupboards and rearranging things so they can all fit in.
Are they moving in permanently or just until they can find a new place? Sounds like it’s going to be a full house either way — I wish you all luck!
I finally gave in and ordered a new washing machine. A friend had offered me her old one but the logistics of getting it from her house to my house (almost an hour drive each way) proved to be too difficult with everything else we are both currently juggling right now.
Recent purchases: nothing Rediscoveries: MAC Sable (I’d set it aside for such a long time) and Keep Your Cool eyeshadows; UD Love Drunk lipstick
Weekend plans: I have personal training tomorrow morning and – miracle of miracles, I was able to book TWO 1 hour gym sessions (working out on my own on the gym floor) for Sat. and Sun. My massively huge gym is limited to 10 people at any one hour session (same # as for smaller gyms) and it’s been almost impossible to get a slot as they fill up within – quite literally – a second of the booking “window” opening and I’m so looking forward to being able to do some intense (or probably not so intense, since it’s been a while) cardio on the one elliptical that doesn’t bother my knee. Other than that, nothing much…
Favourite meal – it’s not exactly in the choices but it would be BRUNCH, and brunch eaten OUT at a restaurant, golf club, hotel….all things that are pretty much not available here (restaurants are open with very limited seating but my husband is still wary of eating indoors anywhere). If I can’t choose brunch, then it would be dinner. I’m fed up (pardon the pun) with cooking but still, dinner signals the end of the day, put my feet up, sit and relax. Tonight, we’re having Thai red curry, lime and coconut sweet potato soup. Yummy, bright tasting, soothing….and I doubled the recipe so there’s lots to freeze for lunches.
Those pool pics of Mellan are literally PRICELESS! The pure joy on his face says it all. 🌅🐶
Purchases/rediscoveries: No beauty purchases, just some more larger sized clothing to get through this summer more easily than last year. As for rediscoveries, it’s more like I’m discovering that ND Bronze midi palette a little more each week, whereas previously I would have long past done so.
Weekend Plans: Tomorrow night, we have our annual commemoration of Christ’s last meal with his apostles and his death. We are doing so via Zoom. Beyond that, nothing really.
What meal do you prefer? DESSERT! Hahaha! No, seriously, probably dinner most days. Lately, I haven’t even had an appetite or really been enjoying my food. Stress will do that.
Pool dogs are adorable!! That’s so sweet that you gave him pool time again as an old doggy.
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Shopping with Mom. 🙂 Mine are mostly maintenance (sale Gimme Brow, Inkey List caffeine eye cream, clearance Shea Moisture gel cleanser) and a Make Up For Ever pencil in 200 Endless Blue. Finally, a pretty dupe for the discontinued blue-gray Nyx Ultra Dare (closest here is probably ColourPop Petit Four). Mom’s cart was more fun, since it had things from Kaja.
Weekend plans: I need to help a teammate catch up before our deadline. No wonder they were struggling – their part’s more difficult than mine. ;-;
What’s your favorite meal: Usually breakfast, since it’s all easy-to-make comfort foods. I’ve overdone breakfast for lunch over the pandemic, though.
Mellon was quite the water babe wasn’t he? It would have been lovely to see him splashing around and having so much fun.
Recent Purchases: Nada
Recent Discoveries: Using my Lancome Jade Fever this week – such beautiful green shades, with Nakeds 1 & 2.
Weekend Plans:
Friday – We went to see Olivia competing in her cross country run at her school and she blitzed all of those in her age group. She has really long legs (unlike her Nonna) and has a good running style.
Saturday – Still cleaning out our spare rooms in preparation for the big move in next week.
Sunday – move of the above. It’s going to be interesting, at least, to see how we all fit in.
Favourite Meal: It’s hard to say – I love any meal I don’t have to cook myself – as I do so, so much cooking for the family. So I do enjoy a brunch, a lunch and a dinner where I go to a good cafe or restaurant. However I do like lunch the best.
Aww sweetie Mellan! It’s funny how some dogs love water and some just don’t want anything to do with it. It’s so exciting that your parents are moving there I bet you can’t wait!
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: The only thing I’ve purchased is a pair of Palladium Sneakers in a mustard color, now I saw Kate Hudson wearing Buffalo London sneakers in the same color, can I justify another pair?
Weekend plans: I’ve decorated the house for Easter for myself and my husband, I thought it would make me feel happier, maybe if I decorate some eggs that will help! I have to restrict my diet for five days for a test my doctor has ordered, no caffeine, no CHOCOLATE and a few other things that I usually eat every day so it will be an interesting weekend.
What’s your favorite meal: breakfast, lunch, or dinner?: I don’t think I really have a favorite meal. I just have small things all day long then I cook a bigger meal at dinner time because I know my husband doesn’t always stop to eat lunch. So I guess dinner is my favorite because that is the only “meal” I eat.
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: I used City Colors for my inner corner highlight today! Surprised that brand never took off more. Today I purchased my first Looxi shadows but no idea when they’ll get to me.
Weekend plans: Eat all the yummy food I picked up from Trader Joe’s XD
What’s your favorite meal: breakfast, lunch, or dinner?: Lately I love breakfast
I got some Bobbi Brown bronzer duos on sale. Basically get to try four colors for the price of one. Golden Light, Medium, Telluride, and Antigua. I like them a lot, they are super forgiving. Quite sheer and all the colors are workable even for someone fair like me.
Christine you are like that Progressive commercial (“I’m going to have a big lunch and just a snack for dinner!”) 🤣🤣🤣. I love looking forward to a delicious dinner the most. But I also love going out for breakfast on the weekends. Lunch actually really frustrates me. It needs to be planned ahead for work days and I just don’t enjoy shopping for “lunchy” foods so I am usually scrambling something together that’s totally boring.
Loving the story and photos of Mellan’s love for swimming!!
Haul/Rediscoveries: No purchases. Rediscovered Vichy Purete Thermale 3-in-1 Cleanser for Sensitive Skin. Discovered Chanel La Mousse Cleansing Cream-to-Foam when going through skincare samples. Delightfully surprised at how much it foams! Also, when looking for an apricot blush, rediscovered an old Elizabeth Arden two eyeshadows and a blush palette. The shades were surprisingly pigmented and it reminded me how much I loved certain pieces when I had only a scant amount of makeup. Definitely food for thought.
Weekend Plans: Watching a few NHL games, decluttering, and enjoying the sun after a gloomy, rainy week.
Favourite Meal: Dinner as I feel it is our most creative meal to make. Like you, Christine, I enjoy eating a larger meal mid-day though we rarely do so. It was customary to eat dinner at lunchtime when we visited our relatives in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. (Then you had the rest of the day to burn off the calories!)
