- Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Still waiting to receive some orders!
- Weekend plans: I’m coordinating redoing the floors in my parents’ house here in Arizona, as we rented it out for the last two years. There were a few rooms with carpet, and we’re replacing with wood tile (which is elsewhere in the house) so that they never have to redo the floors (hopefully).
- What’s your favorite thing to do outdoors?: I like to sit quietly and listen to the sounds of nature – I’ve found that to be more soothing as I’ve gotten older.

I’ve always wanted a walk-in closet with custom built-ins! It was my Christmas gift last year, and I’m glad Mellan got to enjoy his new space, even if only for a couple of months. I actually designed the whole closet around where his bed needed to fit, though I tried to design in such a way that it could function as a usable area if we didn’t have a dog (or if we sold the house). I had a desktop put in with open storage underneath to the left and right (to use the dead corners), so it could be used as a sewing area, vanity, etc. The closet was always his bedroom in this home, so it was important that he felt happy in the updated layout!

Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: New – Glamlite Viva Taco & Veggie Lover’s Pizza Slice palettes / Old-haven’t this week, but I’m feeling a little bit like hunting through all my palettes to find an oldie as comfort.
Weekends plans: I MUST work on a paper for school! 😉
What’s your favorite thing to do outdoors?: Ditto! Just walk outside in a forest and listen (if possible due to the parasitic noise from urbanisation).
Recent Purchases: Alien Cosmetics Serendipity palette, Nabla Skin Glazing Highlight and Bronzer, ND Circo Loco palette 😬
Rediscoveries: ND Triochrome palette, and lots of focus on my Clionadh shadows this month.
Weekend plans: My (fully vaccinated!) MIL is coming to stay the weekend with us to spend some time with her grandson and give us a distraction for him, so we can get some things done around the house.
What’s your favorite thing to do outdoors? Going for walks and hikes and run around with my son.
I love your closet and how cozy it was for Mellan. I have a spare bedroom that serves as my closet and I really want to redo it. That might be my next project.
No hauls I actually haven’t bought any makeup yet this year. I found one of my MAC Love Me lipsticks in my desk drawer at work that had been there since before the pandemic lol. It’s a great nude and I remembered what a great launch that was. I am working my way through my nude lipsticks- one down already with another three close behind.
My favorite thing to do outside is grill hotdogs! Or preferably be served a grilled hotdog 🤣
Handsome Mellan in his lil cubby!
Purchases: just replacing some skincare. Last week I did get the Etude House Milky New Year palette in Strawberry Milk and it’s a nice little everyday palette.
Weekend plans: definitely going to spend some time outside!
Favorite thing to do outdoors: I really like going to the zoo to paint watercolors of the animals. Haven’t been there since covid started. 🙁 Recently I’ve become interested in birds (birds of prey mostly, lol) and now that’s what I like to do on my walks. I went to visit a bald eagle nest last weekend and want to go back. There’s a Cooper’s Hawk residing in some trees near me and I see him around.
Awww, sweet Mellan, makes my Friday better!
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: I had 15% off at Sephora so of course I put an order in, MJ Highliners in Lunatic and Oh My Gold, HG Scattered Light Glitter Eye Shadow in Vivid, Benefit They’re Real Magnet Supercharged Mascara, Lancome Lash Idole Lash Lifting and Volumizing Mascara and Beauty Bio Healthy Scalp Hair Density and Clarifying Serum, I have a derma roller and I want to roll my scalp and see if it will make any difference with my fine flat hair (no expecations!)
Weekend plans: We’re going to have really nice weather here this weekend but we don’t really have any plans yet, we drove up to Banff last night to meet my sister and her husband for a socially distanced dinner and walk around the Banff Springs Hotel and it was the highlight of our year so far. My husband has an appt for his first vaccine shot on Sunday I have to wait for the Moderna or Pfizer one next week, fingers crossed I’ll be able to get in.
What’s your favorite thing to do outdoors?: We like to hike in the woods anywhere, there’s still snow on our trails here and a little tricky for hiking right now. Last year we decked out our two decks with new furniture and umbrellas, it’s so beautiful and peaceful to sit and watch the birds and squirrels play. I have my eye on a new hanging chair that I want to put on the main deck. I’m telling my husband I want it for our anniversary next month, maybe by then it will be warm enough to sit out there for more than a few minutes.
I’m waiting for my Benefit Magnet Mascara too, I got that Shopper’s Beauty $20 off $75 they send out every so often and figured I’d try it out. I have high hopes for it 🙂
Sounds like you’re getting your vaccines quicker than we are here in BC!
That Shopper’s $20 off must be a BC thing we don’t get that here. Yes I think we’re a little ahead of BC on the vaccines, I talked to my sister last night and she was telling me what the schedule was out there. It’s agonizing to wait for it, we all want to be able to travel again! Hopefully by summer a lot more people will be vaccinated and we will be like Texas with no masks and everything open!?
Of course you designed the closet for Mellan’s pleasure. My closet was organized around my kitty’s sleeping preferences.
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Ben Nye LiquiSet, Cinema Secrets Brush Cleaner, Sigma tightliner brush, and Sigma brow brush.
Weekend plans: Just chilling.
What’s your favorite thing to do outdoors?: I have always been more of an indoor person. I don’t think I really have a favorite outdoor activity anymore. Before I knew better, I loved laying out in the sun.
Edit: The Sigma brow brush is the flat angled brush for applying brow color, not a spoolie.
He looks so chill an content in his special closet space!
Purchases/rediscoveries: Nothing on either front. I really haven’t even felt like wearing makeup this past week.
Weekend Plans: Other than doing some laundry and my hair, nothing. Time has stood still as nothing from what I reported last week concerning my daughter has changed much. The only tip I got was from her ex-husband (they have remained friends) that “she’s been very grumpy”. That was last Saturday. My nerves are shot, to say the least. The not knowing is killing me. Literally.
What do most enjoy about being outside? The smells and hearing the birds singing. At least here in AZ. Now in NJ, it was the road of the ocean, seagulls and the smell of sea foam or the sights and sounds of the woods, the different animals and birds, the dense folage. And the smell of rain.
Recently purchased (with a 25% off code–yay!) replacements of: UD Brow Blade and Benefit Magnet Mascara (I needed to replace my Fenty Full Frontal Mascara so I thought I’d try this one).
Recently purchased (with 15% off–yay!) replacement of: Marc Jacobs Velvet Epic Lash Primer, which is my 3rd or 4th tube.
Weekend plans: Dogs–>beach, the usual.
Outdoors: We love walking the dogs at the beach, natch, but we also live oceanfront and have a marina as our “front yard”, so we spend a lot of time on the patios just watching people and boats go by.
Recent Purchases: Just a small Paula’s Choice order to replenish with the Daily Body Cream, The UnScrub and Smooth Finish Conditioner. The Body and Hair Shampoo is out of stock everywhere so I’m starting to panic I don’t have a back-up.
Rediscoveries: None
Weekend plans: Just the usual chores, groceries and phone calls. I’ll certainly go hiking somewhere I can enjoy the wildflowers.
What’s your favorite thing to do outdoors?: Simply hike. I love walking, enjoying the scenery, exploring the nature with all my senses not just eyes (smell, touch). If it’s a longer hike, I love listening audiobooks, but I always have breaks to enjoy the sounds of nature.
I also love running outdoors (I can’t understand how people use treadmills 😅), but usually that’s more like an active meditation for me, not the actual enjoyment of the outdoors.
Purchases: Nothing. Rediscoveries: a wonderful Tarte eye/face palette from ages ago. It might have been my first encounter with Tarte eyeshadows and the ones in this palette are so spectacular I went looking for them and found that they (at the time) had no singles at all and none of these shadows was in another palette. It’s the Tarte for Aqualilies palette and it is so delightful
Weekend plans: working out with my trainer tomorrow morning and then rushing home because my friend is coming to stay for the rest of the weekend. I hope to get a bit of sewing done too.
My favourite thing to do outdoors – walk along the Bruce Trail to the golf club that is near to our house to have Sunday brunch! (I used to love running until I destroyed my knee; running is a thing of the past now).
I love Mellan’s custom closet space <3
Purchases/rediscoveries: Ordered myself some cuticle balm from local nerdy cosmetic company Fanchromatic Nails. Now to wait for it to arrive.
Weekend plans: Go over to the old house for the last of our stuff, take advantage of the good weather to clean up the yard a bit. Treat ourselves to boba at our favorite place, and probably at least one takeout dinner (still trying to get the kitchen settled, it's a mess).
Favorite thing to do outdoors: I really enjoy going for a walk or a hike. Looking forward to the weather getting better so I can do more of that.
Mellan loved his space, even if it was part of the closet. And that he was near you.
Purchases/Rediscoveries: My Sephora 15% order arrived this week. Seemed to be really fast shipping. Ordered the Dior Capture Totale holiday serum bag bonus (the serum, the lotion, and a mini eye cream plus a nice bag) and the Capture Totale eye cream. I was almost out. I did have a new one. My current serum is the old one that I got at a discount when it was being cleared out last January. It lasts a long time. The Bay has its Presidents Sale and there is a 10% cosmetics and fragrance discount til Sunday and a $20 a $100 purchase next week. No idea if I will take advantage of the offers.
Weekend Plans: Just the usual errands and general stuff around the house.
Favourite outdoor activities: I too like to go for a walk. Sit outside on the deck and relax, put the barbecue on. I don’t care for it when it’s mosquito season but if the weather is decent around May and June, when the days get noticeably longer (i.e. 17 hours of daylight), it can be nice. Also like to do my container gardening on my deck. Plus listen to the birds, the frogs, etc. My condo is next to a natural pond that is home to a number of wildlife,
It’s really a special treat to yourself to have a walk in robe and I think it would be a perfect place for Mellan to have his own bed too. He looks so comfortable there and you have made it such a versatile area too.
It’s also a very wise move to replace the carpet with the wood tiles in your parents’ home – as carpet can wear unevenly and wood tiles look so polished in comparison. That’a a kind thing for you and Shaun to do.
Recent Purchases – nada.
Recent Discoveries – just been using a lot of ND Glam this week with other palettes – CT The Rebel, Smashbox Petal Metal etc.
Weekend Plans: I had a lot planned for this weekend – mainly clearing out a lot of junk from our house for hard rubbish collection – we are allowed by our council to have two free ones per year.
However, I have been felled by an attack of gastro – courtesy of my younger son’s family – gastro has been rife around Melbourne at the moment. Hopefully, I will be able to start tossing tomorrow – I just feel washed out now.
Favourite thing to do outdoors – We have a large undercover patio area and that is a lovely place to sit with my grandchildren and play with the play doh… A great big reserve is behind us and we are always able to hear all the birds and the ususal possums.
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: L’Occitane Le Yellow lip balm and a new perfume (Angel Nova by Mugler) as an early b-day gift.
Weekend plans: It is Saturday now, so game night tonight and then taking it really easy tomorrow. I think the time change is gonna kill me.
What’s your favorite thing to do outdoors?: I am not a big outdoors person. It turns out that this medical condition I have is exacerbated by heat, which explains a lot. I do like being in nature and experiencing the animals and plants, but I just have to be careful to not get too hot or too tired.
I love pictures of Mellan such a beautiful boy,
and I celebrate that he knew he was Loved and truly honored everyday of his life. I had a rescue Akita who only felt safe in my closet. I bought her an igloo for the corner and she loved it for the last three years of her life. She stole toys from the male Akita we had and she would hide them in her little safe space. This picture reminded me of that when you first posted it, and now again.
I grew up in the Catskill Mountains so streams, waterfalls, trees, and wildlife are wonderful, The ocean is probably my favorite sound in Maine in particular and I did live In Oro Valley, Tuscon for a year. I loved it so much. I loved the sounds of the Wash that was behind our house. The natural world is everything! My first pup (as an adult) died in Tucson and we were lucky he had his last months there. He had troubled health his whole life similar to Mellan. Az was good for him. We visit Arizona regularly and it is magical.
The closet was his safe space, too! When we got really bad storms, he’d go and hide in the corner under my dresses!
Glad your first pup had some nice months at the end in Arizona. We definitely want to explore more of the state and head to Tucson post-pandemic! Do you have any other favorite places in Arizona?
