New Orleans looks so fun! What do you love about the city?
The history is amazing there. I once stayed in the Degas House B&B which was the US home of the french impressionist Degas (ballerinas, anyone?). I learn something new every time I go to New Orleans. There are amazing performers on just about every street corner and so much diversity. If you get the chance, I suggest you go. And on the up side, you can REALLY test makeup quality in the hot humidity. I have done that many times. 🙂
Haul: Milani Color Statement nail polish in Water Front. Not a fan of the formula, but I like the colour.
Plans: YouTube/blogging, as usual.

Hmmmm, looking at UD Anarchy lipstick, which would definitely be more of a splurge. I don’t NEED another fuchsia lipstick, but it sure is lovely. I do actually need more foundation and I think I’m gonna hit up UD for that too. I’m almost done with the sample of Naked Skin and it’s literally perfect for me! So I’ll probably pick that up and save Anarchy for next week.

Favorite big city I’ve been in: I used to live in DC (lots of history, lots of humidity!). I’ve been in a lot of big cities, but I liked Boston the best. Still, I’m a country girl at heart.

Weekend plans: A lot of emailing and sorting out my fall schedule. My advisor didn’t give me the permission code so I can register for a very important class I need to take in order to graduate on time. Grrr. I had to email someone else and I am waiting for her response.

Haul: sadly, I struck out at the Sephora VIBRouge event – they hadn’t received the MUFE Artist Palette (the premade one with the 8 shadows) nor had they received Nars Jardin Perdu (the NARS rep was there and she was a bit of a flake – hadn’t even HEARD of it…cripes, I’ve heard of it and I’ve been hankering after it; if your business is makeup, at least check out the beauty blogs with regard to the brand you represent!) Okay, rant done….I wanted to buy SOMETHING to get 4X the points and also to get the gift bag so I bought Bite Beauty lipstick in Zin and 2 Sephora liners – another Diving in Malaysia and Good Mood. Today, I picked up a new skin serum from Marcelle – Revival Firming and Brightening Serum – and a bottle of Zoya nail polish remover (it’s supposed to be good for getting off glitter polish).
Weekend plans – gym and yoga but mostly taking it easy and doing some preparation for a shower for my SIL’s future daughter in law
Favourite big city I’ve been to: Would Nice (on the Cote d’Azure) count as a “big city”? If not, then I’ve got to say Paris, though I think it would be even more of a favourite if I had tens of thousands of dollars in “mad money”.
I’m surprised the NARS rep wouldn’t know about it, since the fall collection is officially released, so they should at least know it’s coming soon. Love both of those Sephora liner shades!

It surprised me too. Like I say, she didn’t seem terribly bright. I thought she’d be all excited and such but the best she could come up with was “well, we never know which stores they’ll be in or if it will be Holt’s or The Bay…” (I told her that the info from Nars was that it would be available at Sephora!). “Product Knowledge” is something that these reps should have – not just what the Area Manager tells them but maybe a bit of finding out for themselves. I mean, I don’t work in the cosmetics business and just have an healthy (or maybe unhealthy) interest but someone who works for the company should at least know more than I do…. Sephora’s liners – so many really wonderful colours and the price is hard to believe.
It’s just… fall is a seasonal, typical launch – not a one-off, not special really – expected and it’s not like we’re a month out from official launch! Sephora/NARS needs to take a look at the training/education they do if that’s the case 🙁
I’ve noticed that Sephora hasn’t been getting the full NARS seasonal pieces (I don’t know if this is happening with other brands, as NARS is the only one I really follow). I’m finding Sephora more irrelevant each time I go in. I used to look to them for the harder to come by brands, but with other stores increasing the lines, and Sephora seeming to only carry more mainstream brands, I may as well gomelsewhere-most stores are also improving the “perks”!
How weird! NARS’ seasonal launches are very edited/small (and certainly no larger than most similar brands at Sephora). Nordstrom is a personal favorite, because I like that I can earn points (with their credit card, though) that convert into real $ I can spend (at Nordstrom, but better than my Sephora points).
Haul: MAC bronzer in Aphrodite Shell and MAC lipstick in Siren Song…I’m kinda late on picking these up but thankfully my MAC counter still had a couple of products available from the summer collection!
Weekend plans: Cleaning around the house and hanging out with friends!

Haul: I *finally* got ahold of the Maybelline “Dare To Go Nude” Color Tattoos; I grabbed all but one, Caramel Cool, because it’s just not a shade I’d wear. I also landed all 5 of the “Leather” Color Tattoos, which I think may end up permanent, as the packaging/label have been “updated” from what I’ve seen online. These were BOGO1/2, so I also grabbed a “backup” of Tough As Taupe, which is actually a mich different product than the original-it’s a bit lighter/greyer, has more “slip” (not as dry), and has a more satin finish.
I also picked up Smashbox Step By Step Contour Kit, MUFE Sculpting Kit in #2, Becca Lowlight Sculpting Perfector, and Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Presses in Opal (I wanted Moonstone too, but this Sephora didn’t carry it). Oh yeah, NARS Dolomites & Jardin Perdu also managed to come home with me…
In addition to my haul, I’ve also been buying random bins/organizers for the desk I plan to buy my daughter in a few weeks. She also managed an earring haul from Claire’s (where a Beauty Blender knock-off ended up in our purchase… I do want to go back and check out some of the face brushes there-they seem pretty good, and really soft!
Plans: Staying in, resting, cleaning… the usual!
Big City?: San Francisco; I also love Manhattan & Chicago, but I know SF more, and spent enough time there to really get to know it. I do want to spend time in New Orleans, though!
Wow! That is a lot of contouring products in your arsenal! Have you tried any of them yet?
I’ve played with them a bit, but so far, none have “wowed” me… I actually had the MUFE kit many, many years ago, but the formula has been improved. The pans are much smaller, but I think it’ll end up working out tombe the same “amount” of product, as it seems more pigmented & denser. I like the formula of the Becca most, but since it contains petrolatum, its not something I feel comfortable using every day. As for color, the Smashbox is best, but it’s sooo pigmented, I have to be carefulmwhat brush I use, and I *must* powder the area prior, to make blending easier. I just wish it were a bit more gray.
It’s still strange to me that more brands don’t make gray-ish contours.
If they’ve reformulated Tough as Taupe, that makes my day. I love that shade for a base, but it dries out so quickly it’s impossible to get through the jar before it goes bad.
Haul: 3x Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish 200 ml. This supply will last me yout 10 to 12 month.
Weekend plans: I need to clear out my future bedroom. It will be refurbished next week including new floor, painted walls and the ceiling will be covered. Big change.

Just bought these two pencil eyeliners from a local beauty store, unbranded but ‘designed in Germany’ and they have such GOOD pigmentation! I’ve noticed how makeup products made in Germany have really high quality.

Favourite big city, difficult question as a lot of the cities I've visited have been interesting, fun, beautiful and have had something that makes them remeberable. Rome, Italy is a wonderful city. History around every corner. I also like Amsterdam, all those canals, fantastic houses. I could probably just make a long list 🙂

Favorite big city you’ve been to: I second Washington, D.C. I grew up on the East Coast, so I’ve been there many times. I wish I could say St. Petersburg, but alas, I did not make it there when I was in Russia. I’ve heard it’s just beautiful.
Blew off the rouge event. went in (S) later in week and, just as Mariella said, they had NOTHING, which in my case was a good thing. NO MUFE palette, Nars: only 1 lip pencil out of all fall product… No new MUFE e/s or liners. No sephora best of lip. no mia wallace. No new edition guerlain lips. nada. zilch. zippo. It was surprisingly NOT decimated, for right after an event. They were so behind the curve, it was like a retro store! The lighting in there is so bad; did i just say that for the 100th time? 2 KVD lip shades were indistinguishable on lips, and why should you go on wrist swatches? Only picked up 2 KVD three tone e/s that were d/c’d at 1/2 price. Learned/ruled out a fair amount. Thurs midday is a good time to go to S, as it doesn’t feel like Grand Central at rush hour. Hourglass foundation felt lovely, but too yellow. (Lingerie de Peau was used up + you can’t open the top, which is actually good for preserving the product, ‘course.) MJ concealers click out way too much product, so they’re out. Tarte CC concealer was pretty good, minimally in the lines after ~1-2 hours, when you pull beneath the lid on the cheek. Nars concealer: too yellow, but nice formula + app. Cover FX concealer: maybe a tad better, sets more, than Tarte. Next time, I’ll go French in the concealer search. Ruled out Smashbox Master Class III 2nd too many dupes on the neutral side. What I did wind up coveting was a few KVD l/s, Dior addict-it lash, G L’Heure Bleue l/s, and EVERY Sephora 12 hr green liner, every bloody one of them. You have taught us a lot, especially how to discriminate in making our makeup judgments. And you save me money I don’t have, weekly! Thanks.
Cities: Luzern, Munchen, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Firenze, Montreal, SF. But I haven’t been to NOLA. frankly, I would love to go to all the places before I was born, before they all got homogenized + urban villaged. before mickey d was in shanghai. I went to europe ages ago, but even then frankfurt am main, zurich, + to a lesser extent madrid, reminded me more of nyc than they did of their own countries. Littler places: Reit in Winkel, Klagenfurth, Carcasonne, Avila. In another life, I guess I was very lucky.

Weekend Plans: we had a special ballet class with a real live pianist from London. It was all kinds of awesome! 😀
Favourite big city: Augh! Don’t make me choose! If pressed, it’s probably a tie between Cairo and Naples, but Paris and Prague are chasing closely… I love them all for different reasons, too…
Haul: My Julep Maven box finally arrived, and I’m not sure how to feel. They had to replace one of the nail polishes that I had chosen, and of course it was my favorite one, but the other two that made it were absolutely gorgeous and I was really happy with them. I also got a Gel Eyeliner in the Julep box this month in Rich Brown, and I have to say, I LOVE this product! Even more than some of the higher priced eyeliners I have used. This glides on like silk, it is a deep rich color, and it lasts perfectly for hours. When I go to remove my makeup, it is still in exactly the same place it was at the beginning of the day, and that is a first for me. It turned out to be a great box this month, but the extremely delayed shipping and the substitutions without warning really irritated me. At least the products were great!
Weekend plans: Work, always work. 🙂 But I usually take my days off during the week, so Tuesday or Wednesday will be spent lounging at the lake.
Favorite big city you’ve been to: Loved living in Kansas City, would move back in a heart beat.
