  • Haul/Rediscoveries: Expecting Melt’s new Rust palette in the mail today, received my Charlotte Tilbury eyeshadow quad/liner order, Jouer Blush Bouquets
  • Weekend plans: For me, it’s the usual — work! While there’s a heaviness that looms over everything in a way, my day-to-day routine and life are very much the same since I work from home and am a homebody. We’re still working out way through past seasons of Survivor, and I’m sure we’ll indulge in that!
  • What was one fun thing you did this week?: Playing with the new Charlotte Tilbury quads!

Mellan the wonder dog ❤️

My bronzers on its last leg so in my boredom I shopped around for basically every bronzer on the market (I don’t mind paying but I need something with a better ounce value for the money). I narrowed it down to the Tom Ford soleil in Gold Dust and the Chanel cream one. My heart wanted TF but my brain said Chanel. I ALMOST bought both of them thinking what the heck, I’m stuck here might as well have stuff to play with. But then I thought that’s wasteful and for the price of TF I could buy another month of groceries ???

The Chanel bronzer is an OUNCE of product!!! It seems more foolproof to work with. I had to order it obviously and who knows when it will even get here. Bless the delivery folks.

Haul: All I bought this week are supplies for staying at home. Not hoarding, just being sensible. (Side note…Please don’t buy any masks if you’re not sick and absolutely need them. My sister works in a hospital and they are currently experiencing a shortage of masks for the medical workers who desperately need them.)

Weekend plans: Laying low, avoiding crowds. Catching up on Better Call Saul and Outlander. Reading, laundry, etc. I might try to weed out clothes and shoes I no longer wear. Maybe I can get my husband to play some board games.

What was one fun thing you did this week? It’s been a tough week, not much fun, so this is a nice question to make me think about the good stuff. Last night I spent some time teaching my dog new commands using treats. He can get pretty goofy and excited when it comes to food, so we both had fun.

Ana Maria Avatar

I also try to make the sensible supplies, frozen (I usually freeze fruit, veggies, meats, bread, tortillas) and pantry items for 1 month ahead, produce, dairy and anything that needs to be fresh for 1 week, cleaning supplies for 1-2 months. But some are almost wasteful with the purchase. A cashier was mentioning that she explicitly sees specific people coming and buying each day toilet paper (max. allowed purchase). They’re either mad crazy or selling toilet paper on the black market. Common, you’re in the bathroom, wash if you can’t wipe.

Seraphine Avatar

I felt like THAT person today. I bought a package of toilet paper for our home yesterday because we were actually down to our last roll. Then last night my mother-in-law, who is 80 years old and has lung disease, called and asked us if we could get some for her. So I was back at the store again this morning buying more toilet paper. Maybe some of those return customers are buying for someone who can’t get to a store. Let’s hope that’s what it is.

Seriously, though… Standing in line in front of a grocery store at 7:30 a.m. hoping to be lucky enough to score some TP…what is going on????

(Sorry to get all off-topic on a makeup blog…lol!)

Haul: Melt Cosmetics Rust PR box; again, it was significantly cheaper to get the entire collection than just the products I was interested in (palette & liner), but just like Millennial Pinx, I was surprised to find I actually like the other included products. I also hauled a few dresses & a bodice from Shrine of Hollywood, as well as TJ Maxx & Ross. If only I had somewhere to wear any of it…

Plans: Perhaps a scavenger hunt for toilet paper & paper towels… We’re still in good shape with our essentials, but since the only place we’re allowed to go is the grocery store, we may as well make the most of it…

Fun Thing: I went to the grocery store yesterday for ice cream…

I don’t typically go for such warm lip shades, and I figured I’d give them to my daughter. However, they’re far more muted than I expected, and she prefers bright colors for lips, so not her to her tastes, either. I do like the formula, and figured I’d play around with mixing them with other shades I have, but it turns out I like them on their own. I’ve been playing around with warmer eye products, which has led to warmer cheeks, so I guess I’ve just gotten more accustomed to seeing myself in these times.

Haul: I did get a couple of Revlon Super Lustrous Lipsticks. I’m still keeping to my low buy, however. I think I’m going to extend it another three months. I have a couple of things on my wishlist that I’d like to get at the beginning of April, and would still like to catch the Metropolis palette on sale sometime this year, but that is it! These past few months have taught me so much and I am in love with my collection right now.

Rediscoveries: My Natasha Denona Lila palette. The mattes are so lovely and it has some of my most favorite purples. It’s a beautiful palette.

Weekend plans: oh man, I’ve been working from home the last couple of days and I’m getting a little restless. Hopefully will get some time outside with my son, weather permitting. Maybe some cleaning, but mostly trying to keep my energetic 2 year old from going crazy.

What was one fun thing you did this week?: My family and I went on a hike together, which was really nice and refreshing. And my husband and I watched the newest SpiderMan movie together.

Genevieve Avatar

I absolutely do symathise with you Celesta – not only is there cabin fever for yourself, but having a two year old to look after whilst you ‘work from home’ must be a definition of madness/exhaustion to me. Are you able to go to a park where you live?

Korinne Avatar

Haul/Rediscoveries: I picked up the Mulan palette and then two nail polishes from Glitter Daze because if I’m making a purchase from any makeup companies during this period, I’m trying to go to small ones first.

Weekend plans: I’ve been doing lives once a day on Instagram to connect with people. Also we’ve been doing a lot of spring cleaning.

What was one fun thing you did this week?: I’ll be watching Emma. tonight from my own home, which is enough for me.

Ana Maria Avatar

Haul/Rediscoveries: Nothing new cosmetics / beauty related.

Weekend plans: I didn’t managed to get groceries done during the week because some work related deadlines (it’s like I’m working more hours if I’m working from home, but at least I have this luxury). I do want to hike this weekend, I’ll try to think of some areas are not as popular… we can still exercise outside in California and I miss the trails dearly.

What was one fun thing you did this week?: Finding and doing at home workouts!

Haul: Mac Glow Play Blush in So Natural and the VDL Lumilayer Primer, online from Ulta with my birthday coupon. Mac Glow Play Blush in Blush Please and Charlotte Tilbury Legendary Lashes Mascara from the Nordstrom Sale. I am supposed to be on a low buy this year, especially for cosmetics and skincare, but this week was my birthday (one of those milestone years…) and with everything going on I am feeling a bit down. I feel a bit bad clogging up the delivery chain with unnecessary purchases.

Rediscovery: Cobalt liner (one of the Sephora Colorful ones). A year and a half ago, I moved to a more conservative area for work and I haven’t been using my more colorful cosmetics. This week I have been transitioning to work from home and starting next week, I will be entirely from home. I guess I can play with more colorful looks at home since the dogs won’t think I look too vibrant.

Weekend Plans: Reading, working out, cuddling with the dogs, staying in.

Fun thing I did: Used cobalt liner! Also, since we didn’t want to go out for my birthday, the husband watched a marathon of my favorite Parks and Rec episodes with me and the dogs.

I’m so happy for Me. Mellan that his hearing has improved strangely just from antibiotics! Great news!

Haul: Nothing makeup related, but I’m all moved into my new place!

Weekend plans: Go back down to Scottsdale tomorrow to pick up all my cleaning supplies and a few odds and ends accidentally left behind. Our meetings at our Kingdom Hall now need to be done either over the phone or through a video link up. Kind of depressing that life has halted due to the coronavirus. Nice that I have a new apartment to try to fix up to relieve my boredom, but I’d really like to be able to get out and about and explore my new neighborhood!

What was the one fun thing you did this past week? Unpacking? IDK if I’d quantify that as “fun”, though! Also, I gave CP’s Ur A QT Palette another go and I didn’t hate it. It was still warmer than I would have liked, but it will do because the quality is there, at least. What’s sad is that it’s only been one week and already cabin fever has gotten to me.

Kitty Avatar

That’s great about Mellan’s hearing.

Haul/rediscoveries: Other than an extra CeraVe night cream (a recent discovery) that I picked up at Ulta before the local store closed, nothing much.

Weekend plans: I’ve got to do some online research regarding some stocks, recent health issues, etc. Also plan to do some gardening and binge watching something we’ve already taped.

The one fun thing I did this week: Transplanting some native plants from one area to another (there’s immediate gratification in doing this, plus it’s healthy to get exposed to some dirt and the outdoors). There are always birds and other wildlife around when I’m outdoors too, so it’s fun to watch them while being among them because after awhile they get used to my presence so I get to see their normal behavior and routines.

Lesley Avatar

Haul/rediscoveries. I am trying to maintain my RONB but the sales are so tempting. I wanted to try the new Tatcha liquid primer and Sephora was offering the mini as a bonus so I bought the 8 oz tub of FAB Ultra Repair Cream to get it. I have about a week’s worth in my current supply so it’s sort of a replacement if you don’t count all the other brands of moisturizers and body creams I still have. From Ulta I bought the Nyx Glitter Primer and a replacement for IT Cosmetics Confidence in a Cleanser. And I ordered a set of paste on nails from Nordstrom.

Week-end plans: The weekend isn’t different from any other day now. We have our groceries and are doing laundry today so who knows.

What fun thing did I do this week? I binge watched The Good Place. I am enjoying hanging out with my husband.

Lauren Avatar

Rediscovery:
I got the mini Nars Orgasm blush a while ago and sort of moved away from it, thinking it was too dark and warm for me (and it felt sort of rough in the pan, and even though I use a brush I have a thing about rough surfaces.) But with spring finally here I found myself enjoying it lately. It does actually look nice on pale skin.

Weekend plans:
continuing my home productivity, video chatting with my friends. Since we can’t go to the movies together we’ll watch live videos of each other’s faces :’)

One fun thing:
I caught up on some comics this week, which will be a topic of discussion during group chat! Also my cat has been spoiled having me home all the time. She brings me her toys (hairbands) so I’ll play fetch with her. I go for a jog outside every day the weather permits, as it’s not crowded here, and I really look forward to it.

AJ Avatar

Mellan is such a cutey! Glad his hearing is improving 🙂

Haul: Yesterday I ordered that Bahia lipstick from Uoma, and also got an Orly base/top coat so I wasn’t just ordering one item from Ulta. I can tell that I’m feeling happy with my current collection because it took me forever to find something that I wanted to add to the order!

Rediscovery: Last night I wore the Lacrimosa lipstick from Lunatick Cosmetic Labs, and while I’m still disappointed that it’s sheer, not opaque, it was really pretty with the pastel green eye look I did (used my ColourPop Mint to Be palette for the first time, most please with that too). I might wear it more often.

Weekend plans: Our 20th (!!!) anniversary was on Weds but my spouse was down with a headache/nausea, so we postponed our nice dinner to tonight. Spouse is making Earl Grey creme brulee, using the kitchen torch I bought them for the holidays 🙂 We’ll have a nice home-cooked steak dinner and I will make cocktails. Actually there will be lots of cocktails this weekend since they found a bag of limes at Target this morning. Yesssss. Otherwise, if our governor doesn’t put the shelter-in-place order in, we might go for a drive, drop off a couple gifts on peoples’ porches and get a growler fill from our favorite cider place. And the rest of the time will be spent on Netflix, video games, chores, and dance practice. Probably some crafting too!

One fun thing I did this week: Spent a few minutes in the back yard with the dog yesterday. The weather was really nice and I was trying really hard to get cute pictures of her but she was ignoring me in favor of all the interesting smells in the yard.

AJ Avatar

Thank you, it was very tasty! Chris made mashed potatoes and asparagus to go with the steaks. My brother in law is a pro chef so he provided some advice for the creme brulee and they turned out great, too.

For cocktails I tried a recipe called “Atta Boy” which was gin and dry vermouth with either grenadine or pomegranate molasses. I don’t have grenadine so I used the molasses, and I don’t think I would do that again because even with stirring well and double straining, there was a certain amount of unattractive sediment from the molasses.

Haul : nothing. Store sales flatlined. Who knows when all this will be over. I don’t need new lipstick.

Plans : designing, printing, and assembling tags and logo stickers and bottle labels and other packaging for our local bar to use for takeout cocktail kits, because they can’t serve in-house and if they don’t manage to sell a whole lot of these, the bar will close completely, and that’s four of our close friends jobless and broke.

If you’ve got discretionary income, support your local stores and restaurants and bars however you can. It’s nasty out here, and not just from the germs.

xamyx Avatar

Not only smaller businesses, especially when it comes to the hospitality/restaurant industry… While the CEOs of the “big chain” restaurants won’t feel the impact, keep in mind many locations are franchises, and the owner typically only has the one, and can’t afford to continue paying employees who aren’t working, and often rely on tips. Also, if you’re doing take-out, again, servers aren’t getting their typical business, so make certain to tip as much as you would for dining room service!

a Avatar

True true true! Our small town is overwhelmingly non-franchise operations, though (they try to stay “authentic” and “local” for the steady influx of tourists).

They do “craft cocktails” — all fresh ingredients, local fruit when possible, and so forth. They hand-make mixers like strawberry jalapeno syrup and other asst fancy things, so many of their drinks can’t be easily replicated in the average home bar. Normally you can NOT buy booze to go in this state under any circumstances, but that prohibition (heh) has been lifted for the time being … with the proviso that only closed containers — as in “closed,” how they came from the original bottler — can be sold. So they’re selling kits consisting of, like, for their special house Old Fashioneds? A bottle of (sealed) Rittenhouse Rye, and then separate 16oz bottles full of mixer crafted at the bar — the rhubarb and orange bitters, bergamot, earl grey demerara syrup — and little packs of charred orange peels and Luxardo cherries. So far they’re selling pretty well! Added three new cocktails (Tea Thyme w/ Tito’s, Happy Jalapeno w/ Uncle Val’s gin, Moscow Mules) today!

Haul/Rediscoveries: Found some of the older Australis Velourlips at a couple of local pharmacies – bought the black one for my gothy friend (who loves it already), and a muted nude for myself (slightly lighter and less saturated than my natural lip colour, which is something I’d been looking for). I’ve noticed that if I have a lippy on I don’t want to touch my mouth!

Weekend plans: Hoping to dig up a patch of garden to prepare for growing vegetables.

What was one fun thing you did this week?: Hooked up some of my old gaming consoles to a TV I inherited from a friend. It’s old enough to have the right connections and new enough not to weigh a ton. 😀

Beautiful boy Mellon – he is looking so well Christine.

Haul: nothing this week, except for some extra groceries.
Rediscoveries: Chanel’s Tisse d’ Automne – beautiful olive shades.

Weekend Plans: We are not quite into the lockdown as you seem to be in various parts of the US. Lots of restrictions regarding common spaces though. Schools and daycare are still open.
We have had our grandchildren over a lot this week as Anika has been unwell (not the virus), but with a sinus infection, so we have done the pick ups from school. Everyone else is well here. Our eldest son has been working from home.
We have nothing really planned for the weekend – gardening, laundry and shopping for bits and pieces.

One fun thing this week: We went out for dinner on Friday night (the restaurant was open, but everyone was spaced apart) and it was lovely to not have to cook for a change.
Having my grandchildren playing happily…we have a family room and a rumpus room at our house and one child was in one room and another was in other room, so it was all peaceful.

Mariella Avatar

Genevieve, I hope the Aus. government takes some more serious measures now, before it gets worse there. Our schools were scheduled to close for the March Break but a day before they did, the announcement came they would remain closed for a further 2 weeks after the break (my daughter, also a teacher, called me to tell me this and I thought it was a joke as the board I work for hadn’t notified us at all).

Latika Archuleta Avatar

I’m on an eye lash train – I think my favorite brand is Velour- I bought to many to count in the Ulta sale. I’m also into perfume lately. I’ve purchased some great niche brands and have used the last few drops of some bottles to make room for my new purchases . It seems this have been a week of cleaning and purging

Nikki Avatar

Haul/Rediscoveries: I’ve been playing around with my new NARS blushes-Coeur Battant and Dominate.
Weekend plans: All weekend: social distancing. Tonight: MST3K on Comet. Tomorrow: groceries and SVU marathon. Sunday a technician’s coming to restore our Internet (it went out last night-I’m writing this on my phone).
What was one fun thing you did this week?: I opened a Word document and started what I call my Coronavirus Beauty Diary-a daily log of all the makeup looks I’m doing while my movement’s restricted by social distancing.

Mariella Avatar

Haul: nothing but a bottle of Aleve Night-time, I think (I’ve not been shopping for anything that isn’t a necessity)
Weekend plans: well, no gym, that’s for sure. My older son is home (what happens for him after this with regard to his deployment is anyone’s guess at this point) and so my younger son and his g/f came home to stay too and we’ve all just been “cocooning” and taking the occasional walks – I live in a very “walk-able” neighbourhood but the streets are alarmingly bare). So, it’s mostly cooking, laundry (I’m changing all the towels daily – kitchen and bathrooms), taking walks and watching Netflix. And I am so glad I have Audible!
One fun thing I did this week – earlier in the week, I took a long walk to my favourite coffee place which is now only doing take-out and I got a coffee and then had a nice walk home looking at some really nice old houses along the way.

Haul:
*Ulta — SugarPill Capsule Collection C2. Do you hear angels singing? It’s praises for this palette.

*Dreaming Tree Soapworks — Velvet Dream Sugar Scrub; Wonderland Luxury Soap x2, and Yule Queen Luxury Soap.

*Sydney Grace — E/s singles in Troops x2; Flannel; Fierce; Deliverer; The Greatest Gift; Rushed; Mystery; You, Only Better; Green Mist; Blue Mist; Megalodon; and Pressed Blush in Paris Skies (backup; I’ve already got a dip in my first one).

*ColourPop (last chance sale) — Empty Large Palette in Rose Burgundy and Bobby Pin Tin (so cute and handy!). PPS/PPP in Paper Tiger (backup), Fault Line, Meteorite, Try Me, The Big 3, Seeing Stars, Trooper, Sincerely, Ivy League, Bump This, and Full Send. Lippie Stix in Are You Surreal and Heart On; Lippie Pencil in Bull Chic, Heart On, ALT, V Cute, and Whatchamacallit; and Lippie Tint in Chimichanga.

*Other — Pinky Rose Cosmetics Exotic Peacock Eye Shadow Palette and Besame Vanilla Brightening Powder (great for when I have dark under eyes from lack of sleep).

Weekend plans: Leaving three men with Asperger’s at home by themselves all day is not working out great. We had to go out of town last weekend, but this weekend my husband and I are drawing up work charts and menus for them so maybe they’ll have some things done during the week. And making them set up some stuff on their phone calendars and alarms. Grocery shopping. Laundry. I’m hoping to touch up my roots, too.

What was one fun thing you did this week? The closest I’ve had to fun this week is putting on makeup at 5 a.m. I’ve been playing with my palettes, as my new job is pretty is lenient about makeup looks. Other than that, the job I started this week has had very intensive training, has a lot of info to process in short amounts of time, and threw us on the phones with customers very early on. I work 7-3:45, with a 45 min commute each way. I’m not a morning person. I do my care giving job for my adult son soon after I get home. I’ve been exhausted and overwhelmed.

However… I do really like the company and the people there. They’re one of the 100 best companies to work for in Oregon, and they actually seem to give a sh*t about their customers and employees, not just say they do. The work really isn’t bad, it just has a steep learning curve. Plenty of variety, and most of our cell service customers are the elderly (we specialize in giving them a lot of easy-to-understand support) and very nice. I am glad we can keep them in cell service, and activate new services for them during these times. They need them between health issues of their own plus the situation caused by COVID-19.

Haul: My wonderful daughter bought me the Charlotte Tilbury Copper Charge quad for Mother’s Day 🙂
Weekend plans: Now my foot’s recovered from recent surgery, I’ve been ‘road testing’ it by walking the dog instead of the dog walkers filling in. Our lovely girl Loki turns 2 on Saturday so we took her to her favourite place – Ollerton Pit Wood.
Fun thing I did this week: Hubby and I polished off a whole bottle of port whilst listening to the blues last night. It was fun at the time, but boy the hangover certainly wasn’t!!
