Keeping Mellan in my thoughts for improving test results. Is he playing with a skeleton? 😀

Haul: Nothing! I have a $10 coupon for Ulta that’s good until the end of the month and I can’t think of anything to spend it on. What a weird problem to have!

Weekend Plans: Visiting family, chores, reading, relaxing.

What is your favorite accessory right now? A necklace that has a gorgeous moonstone in a beautiful sterling silver setting. Plus just about anything with Celtic knotwork.

Ana Maria Avatar

It was the same for me with Sephora. They had sale a couple of weeks ago, then they send a 15% coupon code because I didn’t joined the sale… and I couldn’t simply think what to buy. 😆
I think I’ll end up needing to pick my birthday gift from an actual store.

Weekend plans: weeks plan is to finally write up about 8 reviews that have been on hold since FanExpo Canada. lol I’m also waiting for a new UV blacklight for swatches. 😉

Also going to Unplugged Expo x Cosplay Matsuri on Saturday. Haven’t been to that one since 2014.

What’s your favorite accessory right now?: Sadly none as I can’t wear any to work.

Rachel R. Avatar

I’m so glad Mellan’s blood tests were pretty good. I hope he continues to improve with the medication reduction.

HAUL:
*Besame — Sleeping Beauty Collection: 1959 Eyeshadow Palette, Briar Rose Blush Palette, and lipsticks in Sleeping Beauty Pink, Maleficient, and Make It Blue Make It Pink.

*Other — Juvia’s Place The Nomad Palette, Apocalyptic Beauty LOTM Subscription (Beetlejuice themed), and Igneous Cosmetics Go Green Collection (Karoo and Amazon Palettes).

WEEKEND PLANS: Maybe I’ll finally get the shaved part of my head dyed teal (?????). LOL Nothing special otherwise. Just laundry, grocery shopping, and housework, and catching up on some paperwork.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE ACCESSORY RIGHT NOW?: On the right hand, a black-finish criss-cross ring studded with tiny diamonds worn on my index finger and the Killstar Dreaming Moon Ring on my ring finger. (Left ring finger is always my wedding set.)

Nancy T Avatar

Oops! Where are you, Mellan?

Haul: Got that Ulta mess fixed in-store last Saturday instead of through their HORRIBLE CS center! I now have my Foreo Luna Play Plus and Ofra Retrograde split highlighter, since they don’t have Bali or SoHo in-store. Picked up 2 tubes of Maybelline Full & Soft waterproof mascara at Target. Ordered Smashbox primer for redness from Sephora when it was Deal Of The Day, as I’m sick and tired of my rosecea peeking through my foundation. Received all the other orders I placed as of this time.

Weekend plans: Not much. I am seriously contemplating going and getting my hair cut into a longish bob. Such a pain lately dealing with breakage and such! Otherwise, just waiting to hear from my daughter after her follow-up visit with her doc. Apparently, they used around 7 stitches on the one side of her throat last Friday! They’re taking the posts out of her nose today, too.

What’s your favorite accessory right now? Earrings! Whichever ones I choose to wear, they just make me feel put together and “finished”. Especially my large silver hoops with CZ studs in the back holes or one of my very antique style pairs. Funny how many people compliment my nameplate necklace and one of the rings I wear 24/7, yet I barely give mind to either one. Both are very sentimental pieces for me, but that’s about all anymore.

Haul: I picked up the Fenty Poutlicious (or whatever it’s called) lipstick in Purplicious on sale at Sephora in JC Penney. I think it’s a good dupe for my old favorite Bite Beauty Violet lipstick, which has spoiled. Also got the UD Meltdown makeup remover spray at a beauty outlet for only $4.50.

Weekend plans: Tea tasting, Sephora holiday preview, and a video game themed variety show. My Dutch friend is flying back to NL on Sunday, and I’m making sure we cram in a bunch of fun stuff first.

Favorite accessory: So hard to choose, I’m a real accessory addict! I really love earrings as a way to quickly add a little extra something to an outfit, and my favorite pairs including a pair of brass hoops with a large brass triangle hanging from them that I bought at Crafty Wonderland in Portland, a pair of fake gauge peacocks carved from bone, a very lightweight wooden pair of luna moths (colored in dark greens), and a tiny pair of enamel succulents on posts. I rotate through those and whatever else I’m currently into.

Tammy Avatar

Haul: I’ve pretty much only hauled skincare in the past month. Taking a break from cosmetics helps me enjoy my stash and realize that I have so much right now that even if I didn’t buy color cosmetics for a year, I would still struggle to spend significant time with any of my lovelies.

From Sephora 20% sale a few weeks back:

Drunk Elephant Protini: Second or third purchase. I use this and Paula’s Choice Peptide Booster to flood my skin with peptides about two hours after I apply Retin A at night.

Pat McGrath Lust Gloss in Earth Angel: You know the question, If you lost all your make up, what would you repurchase first? This lip gloss is one of those items. I know because I lost mine last week and had to purchase it again ASAP.

Charlotte Tilbury Lip stick in Love Liberty. Haven’t tried it yet.

Drunk Elephant t.l.c. Framboos Glycolic Resurfacing Night Treatment. First purchase.

Youth to the People Super Food Antioxidant Cleanser. First Purchase.

Beautyblender Cleanser Solid Pro. The big boy. I use this soap to clean my brushes and finally decided to stop messing around with the small size.

Ulta: Cerave pm face moisturizer (buy several a year), Cerave Hydrating Facial Cleanser (again, several a year), Cerave Skin Renewing Night Cream (to add extra moisture at night in the winter, goes on top of Protini), Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm, and It’s a Glazed Donut Highlighter (it was on my wishlist and 50% off).

Paula’s Choice: Niacinamide Booster (second purchase, holy grail, must have for reducing redness and sensitivity), Clinical Ceramide Enriched Firming Eye Cream, Resist Perfectly Balanced Foaming Cleanser (first purchase), Defence Hydrating Gel to Cream Cleanser (first purchase), Resist Barrier Repair Moisturizer with Retinol (first purchase), Resist Weightless Advanced Repairing Toner (2nd purchase, full of so many good ingredients for skin, I love this one), and Peptide Booster (2nd purchase, love).

Weekend plans: As I write this we are traveling to Mississippi to pick up my youngest son from the Air Force base where he has just completed his EIGHT MONTH job training to be an electronic repair person for radar, aircraft and weather systems. We are 52 minutes away from his base! We get to have him home for 12 days before he heads to New Mexico to see his girlfriend and then reports to his station in Idaho.

Favorite accessory: ummm, asked husband, who is driving right now, and he just gave a very inappropriate answer, lol. I picked up a few new inexpensive pairs of earrings this summer from Target and Amazon, and have been really enjoying two pair specifically. Other than those, I only wear my wedding rings and those are, by far, my favorite accessories. So beautiful, 30 years later. I wouldn’t get anything different if I had to do it over again.

Tammy Avatar

I pat 5 drops onto my face/neck/chest right after cleansing, while my skin is still moist, and then I wait about 1 minute before I use my toner, followed by treatment (vitamin C in daytime, Retin A at night), and then moisturizer.

Niacinamide has made it possible for me to consistently use prescription strength Retin A on my neck and has made my face less inflamed secondary to Retin A use. I primarily notice the difference at the gym, where I used to experience intense burning and itching during sweat fests.

Yesterday I had my first ever reaction to a sample of vitamin C serum, and after rinsing my face, I immediately applied Niacinamide because I’ve heard that Niacinamide should be a first line of treatment for inflamed skin. My skin was HOT PINK. Within 15 minutes of Niacinamide, my skin had calmed down considerably.

There are ingredients I can’t use, even though they are supposedly fabulous. Not everything works for everyone.

Blue Avatar

Niacinamide and peptides are magic! I use The Ordinary and Good Molecules versions and can’t stop won’t stop. Niacinamide coupled with TO retinoid has given me the consistently clearest skin of my life and the peptides noticeably reduce my fine lines and plump the skin.

Haul/Rediscoveries: Nothing new, nothing purchased… although a Paula’s Choice might be in my future.

Weekend plans: Nothing planned yet (except the regular stuff, like cleaning, cooking, grocery shopping), but I’ll figure something out.

What’s your favorite accessory right now?: I don’t wear jewelry, I always felt uncomfortable wearing rings, bracelets or necklaces; and I don’t like pins and brooches, because they damage clothes. I used to wear earrings, but just a pair that my mother gifted me; since they broke, I’m not even wearing earrings anymore, my wholes are actually closing.
So my favorite accessory can be considered my Fitbit, because I’m wearing it all the time.
Come fall / winter, I love to wear scarves (well… they are a favorite compared to other cold weather accessories like gloves and beanies).

Ana Maria Avatar

Paula’s Choice haul done in the end 😀

Purchased: CLEAR Purifying Clay Mask, Hyaluronic Acid + Ceramide Dietary Supplement (hair/skin supplement never worked for me, but I’m willing to try anytime a new Paula’s Choice product), PC4MEN Body Wash, Resist Retinol Skin-Smoothing Body Treatment (expensive body cream, but totally worth it, I tend to splurge on it from time to time).
Gift with purchase: Peptide Booster (mini), RESIST Intensive Wrinkle-Repair Retinol (mini), RESIST Daily Smoothing Treatment with 5% AHA (mini), 10% Azelaic Acid Booster
Birthday gift: GENTLE TOUCH Makeup Remover

Haul / rediscoveries – Fenty lipstick and lipgloss is spacesuit ( they are both amazing, especially for $9 ) that’s it
Weekend plans- adoption thing at petsmart . I have a doxie, Rexie, but he’s blind in one eye so I want to adopt another one . I doubt it will happen ( I don’t want a big dog, it will intimidate him) so everyone please say some prayers I can find a small breed !
My physical therapy is starting to yield results also, so I’ll do some light housework to help my husband.
Favorite accessories- my wedding ring definitely, also my claddaugh ring . I’d have to say I have used the same purse for like 2 years and I usually charge purses twice a year so I’ve got a thing going with my purse!! ??

Jessica Avatar

Haul: my Natalia Nightshade heels came and I’m so excited. They’re so pretty and glittery. I’m planning to wear them during my solo routine on 9/28. They’re 8 inches, so I’ll be using the next two weeks to get acclimated to the extra inch.
Rediscoveries: Natasha Denona Joya palette. Tarte Set Sail lipstick.
Weekend plans: I am actually off this weekend, yay! So I’ll be going to visit my grandparents on Saturday and on Sunday I have rehearsals pretty much all day, so I’ll be at the studio all day.
My favorite accessory is my Apple watch, but it’s b/c I only wear accessories when I get dressed up and I wear my watch every day.

Sarah Avatar

Haul/Rediscoveries: Repurchased the Boscia Makeup Breakup Cleansing Oil. I like that it removes my makeup without making my eyes feel bleary or my face feel greasy like a lot of other cleansing oils/balms do. It’s not really at the price point I want to be paying for a cleanser, but I felt like going with something tried and true for now. I also picked up the Drunk Elephant Birthday GWP while at Sephora. Haven’t tried it yet, but it’ll be useful for travel at the very least.

Also received the Ulta Birthday gift when I went to go buy a Nyx black pencil liner. It’s a Nars lipstick that’s just a hint lighter than my natural lip color, so it teeters on making me look washed out, but I think it can work

Weekend plans: Going out for dinner and drinks. Lot of cleaning to do too

What’s your favorite accessory right now?: I don’t accessorize much, but I mostly go for a simple silver bracelet

Mariella Avatar

Haul: nothing (aren’t I being good?)
Weekend plans: DH as a major trial starting so he’ll be working most of the weekend; I’m going to the gym tomorrow (he’ll likely go too) and then perhaps to SuperCrawl, a street festival in my city. I might sew myself another jacket from a pattern I love (Loes Hinse’s Kimono jacket – the pattern is discontinued now, unfortunately). I’ve made about 4 of them and could happily make 4 more if I could find fabrics that appeal. It’s just such a great, simple but nice looking jacket and sews up quickly.
Favourite accessory right now: as always, it’s probably scarves (a few new ones I got) – because I wear so much black and grey and solid colours, scarves are a great way to liven up my wardrobe.

Deborah S. Avatar

Glad to hear that Melan’s lab results are better.
Haul: Clinique Cheek Pop On the Glow Palette and Cheek Pop On the Cool palette, Fenty Beauty Match Stix Shimmer Stix in Bordeaux Brat and the Pat McGrath Subversive palette.
Weekend plans: Finishing up some painting and then I am headed to Kalispell, Montana tomorrow to get my finger prints done for my job with the 2020 Census.
Favorite accessory: My diamond ear studs. I purchased them for myself when I graduated from nursing school back in 1975. I also have a pair of earrings my paternal grandmother gave me when I graduated from high school that are rose gold, platinum and diamonds which I love but don’t wear a lot because I am scared to lose them.

Update: So I picked up the Farmacy Better Days Ahead Moisturizer with CBD. This smells so bad that my cat will not even stay in the same room with me! I started getting breakouts a few days after I started using it but persevered because I thought my skin might just be purging but they have continued now for about 3 weeks so I have stopped using it. I am not sure if it is the CBD as there are two forms of it in this product or whether it is another ingredient. I am not sure about getting another type of CBD and trying it or not. I never have breakouts and now I have this area on both sides of my face that is covered with white heads, cystic acne and just looks terrible. Whatever I decide, I am going to take a break and let my skin heal before trying anything with CBD again.

Also, regarding the Peace Out Hyper-pigmentation Spots, I hate to say this but they are working!! Once I realized that they were actually shrinking the size and lightening the colour I decided to focus on the two darkest areas rather than using 8 dots each time I applied. So, that has allowed me to apply a little more frequently than the directions say. Someone here on the blog told me that they had used them daily without any damage to the skin so I have been doing every other day to just those two spots. They are definitely lighter and just a hair smaller. So now I have a dilemma which is whether to continue purchasing. They are expensive so I am contemplating trying the OTC hydroquinone products for awhile, less than a month to avoid any damage from the hydroquinone. I would use that on the other areas and continue to use The Peace Out Spots on the two darkest areas. That way I can get a feel for what works best. I may also screw up my courage and buy a derma-roller to help with getting the product below the outermost layer of skin. I have stayed away from derma-rolling fearing that it might not be a good idea and that I might do some damage but I think if I use the very smallest needles which minimally puncture the skin and only serve to deliver any skin care deeper into the dermis I might be okay. I would love to hear from anyone who has tried derma-rolling regarding whether it works, what effects have been noticed, etc.

Tammy Avatar

I’ve not been tempted by CBD products and after reading your comments, I am even less tempted. I hope your skin clears up soon.

Yesterday I used a sample of Vitamin C Serum (not my beloved Drunk Elephant) and my skin immediately freaked out. New products can wreck havoc!

Deborah S. Avatar

Hi Tammy.
Glad to hear Jesse finished his training and now he can start his career. Enjoy your time at home with him.
I religiously do a patch test and since this reaction wasn’t something that would show up in a patch test, I went ahead and slathered it everywhere. Even back in the day when I had acne I never really had cystic acne. This was a shock. I had a day or two of breakouts after I stopped using it and now for the past 3 days I haven’t had any new breakouts. There are still the purple marks where the cystic acne was even though I didn’t touch them. Not sure how long those will take to go away. The white heads are gone and just left little spots where it looks like a small scab that will likely fall off. Yea, I am not that into CBD but had been hearing so much about it I thought it was worth a try. It really doesn’t make pie in the sky claims. The only claims are that it moisturizes and protects against environmental pollutants. It is definitely something I can live without. I am missing some Drunk Elephant things and will likely add a couple back in when I finish my current products. Skin care is just so hard.

Haul: A Foreo Play Plus, Coloupop strawberry and rose face milks and I bought a MAC product for the first time in about 5 or 6 years, the Extra Dimension Skinfinish trio in Constellation Dreams.

Weekend plans: I got given a couple of big pumpkins a couple of months ago and they are cluttering up my kitchen so I’m going to roast them and turn them into risotto and soup. Then on Sunday I am driving up to Auckland to meet my husband who is having a boys weekend with his brother and his boyfriend, and we’re going to watch some car racing.

Fave accessory: The only one I wear on a regular basis is my Tissot watch. I make my own Swarovski crystal jewelry, so I have lots of very blingy earrings, bracelets and necklaces and I always get a thrill when someone asks where I bought them… Also, my mother is a champion knitter so I have a collection of very interesting scarves that generally get comments whenever I wear one. And I LOVE a good flower clip that I can stick in my hair or wear as a brooch.

My only daughter is getting married next weekend (it’s big, formal , complicated, emotional and a full weekend of activities from Sat. to Monday!). It’s in Mass. so all have to travel . I’m STILL testing different foundations and concealers and lipsticks out! Nothing like last minute ?. This week bought the MILK Flex, Lancôme Teinte Idol Liquid and Stick, the Shisheido Synchro and got a sample of the Charlotte Tilbury. Bought the new Armani Concealer. Also still testing liquid lipsticks and have just narrowed it down to Armani or Bobbi Brown with Charlotte Tilbury lip pencil . I’m doing my own makeup because I know my face best whereas the rest of the bridal party will use the Makeup Artist . Wish me luck everyone as I spend the weekend trying out even more different combos plus get a million other wedding things done . Thanks for listening everyone ! PS – anyone tried the new Fenty Concealer ?

Genevieve Avatar

How wonderful Robin and at your time of the year, Mass. would look beautiful in all of its autumn shades.
I can completely understand what you are going through – I did the same for my son’s wedding several years ago. I think the Lancome foundation will be fabulous as a lot of people on the blog here wear it and love it.
I would do my own makeup too and having seen the results of a MA on more mature people (too much blush and bronzer), I think you are wise.
Have a great weekend testing everything out and I look forward to hearing about the wedding. I am sure you are going to be a beautiful mother of the bride.
What colour dress are you wearing?

Robin Avatar

Genevieve- you are so sweet . Thank you for your good wishes . I think I have it narrowed down to the Lancôme liquid or the new Shisheido foundation. I’m in a deep sapphire blue high low sequin number . The color theme is blue and silver .

Blue Avatar

The Instant Retouch one? I’ve tried it under the eyes in store and loved it. It applied nicely and seemed to wear really well through the evening. But I haven’t bought a full tube yet so I don’t know how it stands up in different conditions with consistent real life wear.

Tammy Avatar

Congratulations Mama! I was so low key at my daughter’s wedding. I knew I would use Guerlain’s BB with Noni Glow Oil on all of us (I did makeup for myself and others) because I love the natural glow it gives. Then I just pulled out my favorite Chanel Quads, a couple favorite blushes and glosses and highlighters, and we were done. Good luck finding the right combination of products for your daughter’s wedding day?.

Genevieve Avatar

Mellon does look well and I truly hope that some of his blood elevations are due to sensitivity – which would also make sense of them. Keep well darling boy as we all love you.

Haul: After catching up on some of my missed Temptalia blogs during my trip, I saw that perfect post on Unforgetable Autumn – the lip shades and eyeshadows. I decided to bite the bullet and order Sephora’s Hong Kong by Night and Festival Lights, which arrived today.

Weekend Plans:
Friday – getting my hair done early in the morning and catching up with my teacher collegues that I worked with years ago. It’s always a great time as now most of us are grandparents (of similar ages too) and seeing what we are all up to. We worked so well together.
Saturday – shopping, cleaning, laundry, cooking.
Sunday – It’s my eldest son’s birthday and we are going out to lunch to celebrate it with the family.
Monday – my cousins from Canberra are coming down to visit Melbourne and I am having them for dinner – with the family. So it’s going to be busy this weekend.
I am still not quite over my cold yet either.

My favourite accessory is a rose gold necklace that my sister bought me. It really goes with everything I have.

Tammy Avatar

I haven’t seen the Hong Kong by Night or Festival Lights products, but I love the names!

I hope you enjoy your meet up with colleagues. Happy birthday to your son. I hope this day finds you in full recovery from your cold.

Haul/Rediscoveries: hauled Sugarpill Fun Size, Saucebox Daffodil e/s, and my second most bougie purchase to date: TF Shanghai Lily perfume. It was my HG white floral, but for years I could never buy it because of the price. I never imagined it would be discontinued, then of course it was. I took a year to pull the trigger because the price is crazy, but I eventually got scared it would become impossible to find forever. And now here I am with what I hope is a lifetime supply.

I also hauled some DIY skincare stuff from Amazon, like rosewater and glycerine. I even got some pH strips to make sure it’s good for my acid mantle! I also got turmeric to drink as an anti-inflammatory, but now that I’m on the subject, has anybody here used it in a mask? I’ve read good things but I’ve also cooked with it a lot and can’t imagine it not staining the skin in a mask. Has anybody tried this?

Rediscovered Pat McGrath gold pigment as a stunning inner v highlight and Nars Le Lavandou lip pencil as a very moody fall gray mauve. I wore them together the other day with a butterscotch smoky eye mostly using MELT Rubbish and couldn’t take my eyes off myself.

Weekend plans: Study for the GRE. I took it about a month ago and was pretty happy with my score but the program I’m applying for only looks at your best scores from each area and recommends taking it more than once sooooo I guess I’ll sit and suffer through it again. Nothing to lose except money and sleep! lololol :/ That and the EXTRA money I am clearly spending on retail therapy for my stress ahahahah.

On a more fun note, I’m also going out to dinner tonight to a Turkish restaurant that is supposed to be great and serves one of my favorite foods in the whole world, which I’d never found outside of Turkey. It’s called Iskender kebab. It’s grilled lamb on a bed of pita bread with tomato sauce, melted butter, and yogurt on top.

What’s your favorite accessory right now?: My gold ear cuff from Mejuri! Always wanted a cartage piercing, and now I don’t need one!

Blue Avatar

I might do the makeup look again and post here, I thought it was a great fall combo. Thanks for showing interest!

The restaurant was closed for remodeling so I’m still waiting for my Iskender. It’s honestly become a running joke how thwarted I am in my quest to eat it again.

Nikki Avatar

Haul/Rediscoveries: I’m still planning to buy my Marc Jacobs Not Sorry gloss, Tarte Park Ave Princess bronzer, and Tarte Blushing Bride/Dollface/Natural Beauty blushes, but I’m waiting till Sephora tells me Charlotte Tilbury Viva La Vergara lipstick’s back in stock so I can buy it all at once. Actually, I’ll have to wait on the blushes too, because all 3 I want are sold out due to the Ulta deal match. *rolls eyes*
Weekend plans: Normally Friday is grocery night, but it’s too hot for that today. I work all day tomorrow, and groceries will probably happen tomorrow night. I’m not sure about Sunday yet.
What’s your favorite accessory right now?: I’m not normally big on accessories, but lately I’ve been wearing an old necklace I bought at Target ages ago. It’s a triple-chain necklace with two blue chains and a silver one.

Haul:
Smith & Cult:
Cancelled concealer
Plastic Beach, Exit The Void, Bitter Buddhist, Love Lust Lost nail polishes

Pat McGrath:
Midnight Sun palette
Flesh 3 in Lip Fetish and Mattetrance lipsticks

Sephora:
Pat McGrath mini palettes in Sublime and Subversive

I am debating the Natasha Denona Metropolis palette . . .I keep putting it in my cart and taking it back out again. I have the Gold palette and it’s lovely. The Metropolis palette seems like a refined UD Born To Run.

Weekend plans: Bask in solitude and silence and leisurely clean and run errands. It has been a stressful week – a good stress but still so much going on anymore. I am looking forward to waking up without an alarm on Saturday and just futzing around the house. On Sunday I may go into the office in the early morning, then coffee or brunch with friends, then to my monthly facial and come home and give myself my weekly manicure.

Favorite accessory right now: Makeup and my nails! Maybe one of my bags. I don’t wear any jewelry – I’m very out of the loop when it comes to fashionable accessories.

Erica Avatar

Hauled: Nothing

Rediscovered: ABH Subculture. Still my go to for Fall, Grungy looks. Pairs lovely with Melt Gemini. Love putting Mercury in the crease to smoke things out!

Weekend Plans: attending a Latino Cultural Festival for work. Then going to Ulta after ha

Favorite accessory: I don’t really have any. My ears are too sensitive for earrings. And I cannot stand wearing rings. Once in awhile I will wear a necklace but I haven’t worn jewelry in months…cannot be bothered. Makeup is my accessory ?

Tracey E Avatar

Good to hear that Mellan is doing okay, Christine!

Weekend Plans: Home visiting our parents, so doing a little shopping and going to a favourite park for lunch and to stroll the English Gardens.

Favourite accessory: my wedding ring, stud earrings, and a watch are constant accessories for me. At the moment, really enjoying earrings purchased from local artists.
