- Haul/Rediscoveries: Westman Atelier highlighting powder, foundation, and one cream blush
- Weekend plans: My parents left a few days ago, so I’m trying to get back into the swing of things! It was like an onslaught of releases a few weeks ago, and thankfully, just in time for their visit, new releases seemed to slow down a bit so 1) I was able to get through the onslaught I had already swatched and 2) didn’t have to spend tons of time each day working (I put in 16-18-hour days for the 2 weeks prior to them visiting so I can do 4-8 hours/day while they’re here).
- What’s your favorite vegetable?: Aspargus!

Hauls: Clinique Cheek Pop in Fig. Holy crapolla. It’s like magic.
Rediscoveries: ColourPop Yes, Please palette. idk why I don’t use it more!
Weekend plans: I’m actually not sure yet!
What’s your favorite vegetable? Brussel sprouts. I know I’m strange lol.
I guess I’m strange, too. I love Brussels sprouts!
Nothing strange about loving Brussel sprouts… they are amazing roasted (I love to roast very small ones and almost snack on them simple)… they are amazing shaved and pan-cooked, maybe with a bit of bacon…
I’m excited to “meet” so many people who also love brussel sprouts! I only know one other person who likes brussel sprouts. Everyone else is like ew get away THAT IS THE WORST FOOD ITEM. I once recommended it to a friend who was looking for different veggie dishes and I suggested roasted brussel sprouts and got my ear chewed off lol.
God they are amazing every way they’re prepared. Baked, grilled, shredded and fried… Sometimes I sprinkle crumbled bacon over grilled brussel sprouts. This is all making me wish I bought them while I was out marketing.
I also love brussels sprouts! Sauteed in butter and garlic is my favourite way to prepare them!
Brussels sprouts are delicious! I don’t think I literally ever had them as a child, so discovering them as an adult, prepared properly, was such a delight.
Yes. My mum disliked that whole group of ‘strong’ vegetables, so I never discovered the wonders of Brussels sprouts (great, either Italian or Asian style..) cauliflower, etc., until I moved out for my first job! BS are fabulous and so is the whole plant.
You know, I never had them as a child either! I discovered them when I was a teenager and was into steaming them at the time. Now I make them every way they can be made and get the full joys and wonders of brussel sprouts.
Brussel sprouts are delicious. Too many people just boil them into mush, then think they’re bad. Cooked properly, they’re amazing.
Roasted brussel sprouts are just divine!
How could I have forgotten Brussels sprouts – they top even asparagus in my favourite vegetables (I forgot grape tomatoes too – love them) – I have a recipe from an old Canadian Living magazine for the best Brussels sprouts ever, done quickly and easily in a skillet with some soy sauce, water and garlic. Oh so yum.
My canine child LOVES sleeping in the sun, even when it’s ridiculously hot out.
Haul: Viseart Liaison Eyeshadow Palette. Ok, I know I shouldn’t have bought it, but all self-discipline just flew out the window at that moment.
Q: Am I annoyed with myself for buying an expensive palette that I don’t need?
A: Yes.
Q: Am I excited about using this new eyeshadow palette?
A: Absolutely!
Rediscoveries: Smashbox Cover Shot Punked Eye Palette. Somehow, this little collection of cool shades got lost in my ever-growing sea of palettes.
Weekend plans: Visiting family, dinner with friends.
What’s your favorite vegetable? Hard to narrow down. I love corn, potatoes, spinach, and artichokes
Hey, you are the latest reader to become a danger to me. Planning on getting Liaison with the Beautylish GCs, and I KNOW Dior Backstage cool will make it here eventually… The Liaison may not need a complementary palette, but a Punked would do it, as would Lunatick Vampira and Supernatural. Maybe you ought not look at them. I think Rachel would agree that Lunatick makes great shadows….
Supernatural looks really beautiful, but I think I’m set for cool neutrals for now (though I keep eying the MJ Steeletto palette). But the Lunatick palette is now on my future wants list. I wasn’t previously aware of this brand. I love that Dior palette, but it definitely needs to be used with primer, especially the light shimmer shades.
Liaison is soooo good, though!
Kjh is right, I can vouch that Lunatick’s eyeshadows are great. Awesome packaging, too.
I absolutely LOVE the Vampira packaging! But prefer the Supernatural shades.
I think the Liason palette would be very flattering on you and the Shiver shade is just stunning.
I’m going to try it out this weekend. It’s such a pretty palette.
Haul: From ulta: (20% off, some stuff on my wishlist/needed for my upcoming 3 week vacation on sale, and $50 in points) Andalou Naturals turmeric enlight serum and age defying starter kit. Burt’s Bees sensitive skin facial cleansing towelettes, spf lip balm, and brightening cleanser. Smashbox x The Hoodwitch cover shot palette. Pacifica tinted spf lip balm. SweetSpot coconut lime body wipes. Not Your Mothers travel size dry shampoo. Klorane cornflower floral water makeup remover. Laura Geller Diamond Dust baked gelato swirl highlighter. Turbie Twist hair towel 2 pack.
From ColourPop: (20% off friend’s code) Ooh La La and It’s My Pleasure 9-pan palettes. Avenue of the Stars and Anomaly body glitters.
Other: “Ride with Pride” shirt from the Salem Witch Museum online store.
Weekend Plans: We leave for a week at the lake on Mon morning so I’ll be prepping for that.
Favorite Vegetable: OH MAN I love so many vegetables! uh top 3 are snap peas, purple potatoes, and green beans.
Klorane does skincare?
How things change… I discovered the brand in Europe 5-6 years ago as a pharmacy only brand with treatment shampoos and conditioners (I used the Nettle, and Quinine and B lines) … nowadays I can find them in US at Sephora and just finding out they do skincare. 😆 Even those biodegradable make-up remover wipes seem nice.
Have a fabulous time at the Lake Alice and you have picked up some very useful goodies there too.
Haul/rediscoveries: Trawling through T.J. Maxx and Marshall’s: Becca Luminous Blush mini in Snapdragon, Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara plus DS of lash primer and under eye primer, Murad collagen lip treatment, and Amika Triple Rx Conditioner, which appears to be the old packaging of the current Kure Conditioner. From Ulta, UD 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in Psychedelic Sister, a bright purple.
Weekend Plans: The usual grocery shopping and farmer’s market and probably my favorite indie bookstore.
Favorite vegetable: I love all vegetables except fennel. I can’t pick one favorite.
Feel the same as you for fennel (and veggies) 😆 . I just can’t stand it raw, and roasting it only makes barely decent.
Ugh. Fennel is the worst.
Haul: The new Nabla mini-palettes…the most amazing shipping ever! I ordered them on Wednesday morning FROM MILAN, ITALY and received them IN NYC the very next day!!! Also received the newest Jeffree Star palettes, Jawbreaker and Mini-Jawbreaker. Colourpop’s California Love palette arrived, too. I’ve ordered some stuff that I haven’t received yet so those don’t count for this week’s haul, right?
Weekend plans: Stay cool. It’s hot here in NYC.
Favorite vegetable: It’s very hard for me to pick just one, especially being a vegetarian. Maybe eggplant?
Nice haul!
Haul: Charlotte Tilbury Hot Lips 2 in Carina’s Star and some new comfy PJ’s.
Rediscoveries: No. 7 Triple Action Lift and Illuminate Serum Foundation and CT Hollywood Lightwand.
Weekend plans: My mom is coming down tomorrow to visit and give me a solid oak bed frame that she’s had for years. I also have the urge to purge my make up and clothes again, so I’ll probably do that.
What’s your favorite vegetable?: Probably onion. Because it’s good in almost everything.
Carina’s Star really stood out to me. So pretty!
Haul: repurchases of Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre and Youth to the People Superfood Cleanser (in the Pride packaging, from which some or perhaps all the profits go to LGBTQ causes). New: Kenra Platinum Silkening Gloss (wonderful – my hairdresser got it for me for about $15) less than it sells for in stores), a total waste of money “hair fragrance/shine enhancer” from Frederic Fekkai (thank goodness it was at Marshall’s for under $10)
Weekend plans: It’s Canada Day up Canada Way on the first day of July!!! (RIP, Stompin’ Tom). Gym tomorrow and then a trip to Niagara and then relaxing, I think, for the rest of the long weekend.
Favourite vegetable: asparagus and mashed potatoes and roasted potatoes (not all together) and pretty much any grilled vegetables done on the bbq.
Have a happy Canada Day!
Thanks, Rachel!
Have a relaxing Canada Day weekend Mariella, a visit to Niagara would be wonderful.
Hi Mariella, sending a Happy Canada Day to you from Winnipeg!!
Thank you, Genevieve and Tracey E (or should I say “Eh” in honour of our much over-played tendency to say “eh”?). I’m drinking a Canada Day smoothie in honour of the day (actually, it’s my usual post workout smoothie but as it contains strawberries – and the local ones are in and bursting with colour and flavour – it’s a lovely red colour)!
Sounds wonderful and delicious, Mariella!
Haul: Many items finishing up in my collection, so I made some online orders
* Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Matte Powder Foundation (Sephora) – I had the `regular` version previously and loved it to set my make-up; I decided to try the Matte version for this summer. I got the new Too Faced Damn Girl Mascara (mini) as a free offer for purchase, but I’ll use it when I go through the other two mini mascara I have.
* The Inkey List Collagen Serum (Sephora) – Both my serum and hyaluronic acid booster finished, so I decided to go with a 2-in-1. Just wanted to try this new brand at Sephora, especially since Beautypedia gave it good reviews.
* Wet’n’Wild Photo Focus Stick Foundation (Amazon) – My current foundation is hardly pumping the last drops, so I decided I haven’t tried a stick foundation in a long time. So a $5 foundation seemed like a small risk to take.
Rediscoveries: Nothing (yet 😀 )
Weekend plans: I get my car serviced on Sunday, so I hope to get it washed on Saturday; it’s not dirty, but I always want it to be spot clean… especially when others will drive it. While it’s in service, I might go to a shopping center near the dealership and browse around. I’m still debating what to do on Saturday (except the regular cleaning, meal prep, groceries).
What’s your favorite vegetable?: Seriously… I love a lot a veggies and I can’t choose… and tomatoes and avocados are theoretically fruits. 😆 Cucumbers or carrots, definitely are in the top… and snap peas and jicama (can’t you tell I like crunchy stuff)… sweet potatoes…
Hauls/Rediscoveries: I’ve actually been really good and the only item I purchased this month was Urban Decay lipstick in shade 66. (they had the friends and family sale on last weekend here in Canada). I’ve been trying to use up products I already have for the next few months at least.
Weekend plans: It’s a long weekend here (Canada Day is Monday), so just have to get through the next 3 hours at work and then 3 days of freedom! Saturday is going to be my laundry/housework day, Sunday we are going to the beach, and Monday probably will just relax, unless something last minute comes up!
Favourite vegetable: That’s a tough one. I LOVE potatoes, but am on a low carb diet so I only allow myself to eat them once a week now. Aside from potatoes, I like asparagus and brussels sprouts!
Happy Canada Day Linda and I hope you get to the beach, is it very hot where you are?
Happy Canada Day, Linda, from another “Janie Canuck”!
So glad to hear that were able to enjoy a pleasant visit with your parents, Christine! The amount of work you put in for the few weeks prior, sounds absolutely grueling, though.
Haul: A few things! Ordered MAC x Mary J. Blige French Silk lipstick in a new formula by MAC. Haven’t had much of a chance to take it on an all day test drive yet. It is almost the same color as Kinda Sexy, but glossier and cooler. Also ordered two more shades of Indie Lacquer nail polish in A Clear Blue Sky (a true bright medium blue with a lavender-pink shift) and Equality (a yellow crelly with various sizes of multi-colored glitter).
Weekend plans: Nothing out of the ordinary. Hair, laundry, meeting on Sunday. Nails still look great a week later, because I used Opi Infinite Shine in Grapely Admired.
Favorite veggie: The premade kale salad I buy at Fry’s called Avocado Ranch is DIVINE! More than one veggie involved, but I truly enjoy that particular one every single time I buy it!
A single veggie, though? Corn! Done eloté style or plain, always tastes great.
Sorry about losing your hibiscus trees. That sucks. A wind storm a couple years ago took out my Asian Pear tree. It makes me afraid to plant any new trees that won’t be able to stand up to our high winds and rain when they’re little.
Haul:
*Urban Decay Sparkle Out Loud Hi-Fi Lip Gloss in Hot Love, Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner in Disco Daydream and Distortion, and trial size Perversion Mascara (GWP)
*Volition Strawberry-C Serum, large e.l.f. Hydrating Face Primer, and two packs of Burt’s Bees Micellar Cleansing Towelettes.
Weekend plans: Do some shopping for our vacation (sunscreens, shorts for the kids, etc.) and finish getting our camper cleaned and ready. Monday we’re seeing Eddie Izzard with the kids.
What’s your favorite vegetable?: Zucchini
Saw Eddie Izzard a little over a year ago——SO GOOD!! It was his show promoting his autobiography. I read it before the show so I was familiar with it but his riffs and surreal takes on life we’re the best part. Would see him again in a heartbeat.
Beth, I’ll have to check out his autobiography. My older son likes to listen to them on as audiobooks. At Christmas, we listened to John Cleese’s, and he was listening to Stephen Fry’s most recently (my son is bipolar, so Stephen’s meant a lot to him) . Eddie’s one of our favorite comedians. My kids adore him, so I am really happy to have the chance to take them to see him in concert.
I hope all your preparations for your forthcoming holiday go really well Rachel, you certainly deserve a break.
I am pretty keen on zucchinis too – such a versatile vegie.
Thanks, Genevieve. We’re running a bit behind, because we had to deal with a minor flea outbreak (we totally forgot to give the cats a preemptive dose of Frontline) and some other issues. We’ll get it all done one way or the other, though!
Zucchinis are entirely underrated, IMHO. I love most vegetables, though.
Haul: MAC Touch lipstick (b2m) – This is a decent dupe for my favorite brown nude, MAC Sunset Pearl. I’m adding a little bit of a light peach lipstick over the top to get the shade I’m after. It’s helping me use up my neglected MAC Shy Girl and Shanghai Spice.
Rediscoveries:
Tom Ford Cream and Powder Eye Color duo Midnight Sea
Tom Ford quad Last Dance
Chanel Empreinte du Desert quad
Weekend plans: The usual chores and then birthday get togethers. Most of us were born in June, July and August.
What is your favorite vegetable?: It’s a toss up between asparagus, broccoli, cabbage and brussel sprouts. And potatoes. Also pretty much anything sautéed with onions and mushrooms!
Haul: I bought two nail polish minis from Fanchromatic Nails at Urban Craft Uprising: Tree Trunks (translucent chartreuse with copper glitter, been wearing it all week) and Morla, the Ancient One (shimmery grey with iridescent glitter, will look perfect with my belly dance troupe’s grey/silver costume).
Rediscovery: I’ve really missed having painted nails! I should do this more often.
Weekend plans: My partner made just-because reservations at one of our favorite restaurants for a little date night tonight. Tomorrow, going to take our dog for a walk in the wetlands park nearby, pick up some stuff from a friend who lives in that neighborhood, go down to IKEA for a few more things for the house, maybe do a tea tasting on the way home… And Sunday will be a bunch of cleaning and organizing and prepping for entertaining out-of-town guests next week.
Favorite vegetable: According to Google, garlic is a vegetable so I think I’ll go with that 😉 I love lots of veggies, and lots of fruits that we serve like vegetables.
What a lovely surprise AJ and Ihope you enjoy your dinner out.
That you Genevieve! Our dinner was delicious 🙂
Haul: Glow Recipe glass skin kit from Sephora, Ciate London’s new marbled Metals eyeshadows in Wicked and Twisted plus 3 of their glitterflip liquid lipsticks I have been wanting to try and Jeffree star’s new highlighter palette and the large Jawbreaker palette from his new summer collection. So much for going on a low buy!
Rediscovery: Elf cosmetics translucent setting powder
Weekend plans: It’s my daughter’s weekend with her dad so probably get some things done that I should have gotten done earlier in the week that will now be easier without a 3 year old needing attention, maybe make time to walk around the Harbor area and get some extra shuteye!
Favorite veggie: I like a lot of vegetables actually but I really love red, yellow and orange bellpeppers!
Have a relaxing weekend Elissa and I hope you do get time to go for a walk and a little nap. Having a 3 year old grandson, I know how on the go these little people are. They have lithum batteries inside them…..
Nice to see Mellan enjoying the sun. We finally have some sunshine yay!
Haul/Rediscoveries: Going with my no/low buy I finally was able to get a Rouge $100 gift certificate with my points so I purchased a perfume that I have been waiting patiently to buy, Aerin Mediterranean Honeysuckle so I just received it today so that makes my weekend.
Weekend plans: I just received my new fob for my car so now that we have some nice weather we will be able to put the roof down and enjoy some sunshine! It’s the Canada Day long weekend and we are going to catch up on some chores around the house that really need to be done. Washing the windows and some gardening.
What’s your favorite vegetable?: Swiss chard and corn on the cob
Happy Canada Day weekend Brenda, I hope you get to go out and enjoy a beautiful drive in the sunshine.
Thank you Genevieve, I can only thank our lucky stars that our weather is a lot cooler than the 45.9C that France has had. With the hot weather that you went through now Europe is going through it I’m wondering what our summer is going to be like. We’re at the mercy of Mother Nature!
Having experienced a week for 45 -46 degree temperatures several years ago (a precursor to the Black Saturday bushfires) it is not funny – not even the best a/c work in those conditions. You literally could not do anything it was so hot. I am absolutely feeling very sad for the French at the moment.
I hope it doesn’t get anywhere near that hot for you.
We travel to the coast of B.C. every summer and have had temps in the 40s, and of course we travel to Vegas and they have those temps in the summer every year and it’s not fun to deal with. I feel for the people over there and hope they get some relief soon. We can get into the mid 30s and that is hot enough for Calgary.
Happy Canada Day! I’m glad you got your new key fob. It’s awful how expensive they are to replace. They quoted us more than $500 US to replace the one for our previous car. We chose just to use the manual key until we got a new car.
Thank you Rachel. Yes they are expensive to replace and when I tried to use the valet key it set off my alarm! So I was kind of stuck. But my husband did get half off for being a car dealer himself, but still $225 will teach me to check my pockets before I wash my jeans!
Mellon looks relaxed enjoying the sunshine!
Haul – nothing this week
Rediscoveries: Still using the Lovely palette from Tarantino, mixed in with other palettes like the bareMinerals Soft and Smoky and Naked 2.
Weekend Plans: Christine, you are seriously worrying me about your working hours! I hope you got to relax with your mum and dad. It must be so nice to have them stay with you.
Friday – a very busy day: I had my hair done really early in the morning, a luncheon with teacher friends that I use to work with a few years ago. All of us got along really well and worked together in varying capacities during our careers. We all had children of similar ages (mostly boys as it turned out) and had a lot in common. We still meet up every couple of months and it was great to see everyone. Even the former Principal was there (a fantastic guy).
Saturday – it’s my youngest son’s birthday today – he’s 32 and the dad of our grandchildren.
We are having an afternoon tea of his birthday cake and then he and his older brother are going off to see a film. We are taking my daughter in law and the children out of dinner.
Sunday – not sure yet, but probably an afternoon drive into the countryside.
Last Monday I had Lachlan’s playgroup friends around at our house – 5 mums, 5 three year olds, a couple of toddlers and 3 babies. Every single toy we knew we had and a few we didn’t was spread out over our three living areas. The Brio train set was very popular with the boys of all ages. Plus afternoon tea – it was fabulous.
I also meant to say that my favourite vegetable would be roast pumpkin, but I seriously love all my vegies. Avocado is another one I really like too.
I hope your son had a great birthday! That’s really nice that you get to get together with your teacher friends. I’m jealous you had all those kids running around Monday. They’re so funny and imaginative at that age. (If you can’t tell, I’m in desperate need of grandchildren. lol)
Thank you Rachel, he did have a lovely birthday. My teacher friends are a great bunch of people.
The kids were fabulous, the 3 year olds all loved the Brio and Thomas the Tank trainsets, so they were busy in their ‘own’ world enacting imaginative scenarios and the toddlers were just so cute wandering around. Olvia helped out with keeping the little babies amused too. It was a lovely day.
I think you would make a wonderful grand mother Rachel and I hope one day that it happens for you.
Haul: Shoppers Drug Mart BB (20% off): Vichy Mineral 89 Skin Booster, Vichy Mineral 89 Repairing Eye Fortifier, Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua foundation, and Guerlain Meteorites Glow Pearls Cushion.
Selfridges (10%+ off): Suqqu Glow Touch Eyes in Shine Grape (backup as I’ve passed the halfway mark on my original), Suqqu Matte Lip Crayon in shade 102 Scrabeni (berry), and Lancome Genifique Eye Mask.
Weekend Plans: Enjoying the Canada Day long weekend with family and friends. It’s going to be a hot one, so balancing outdoor and indoor activities. Helping my mother-in-law with a downsizing project Sat afternoon. May go to a Canada Day artisans pop up on Monday, a holiday here.
Happy Canada Day ?? to all Canadians, at home or abroad!!
Favourite vegetable: It’s a tie between potatoes and mushrooms.

Q: What do vegetables and perfumes have in common?
A: I love so many that I can’t pick a favorite!
Haul/Rediscoveries:
After a few weeks of going without makeup most days, I’m rediscovering my collection, playing & experimenting. It’s great fun!
No hauls to report, as at this point in time my collection feels pretty complete. I’m trying to focus on finishing products before buying something new. On my wishlist is UD’s Naked Reloaded and I go instore from time to time to swatch it 😉
Weekend plans:
Not much really and I’m really looking forward to it! Past few weeks have been really intense and I’m trying to find some calmness and charge my mental batteries to start the new week with a fresh mind and a well-rested body.
What’s your favorite vegetable?:
Oh, so so many! If I had to pick one: broccoli!
Have a nice weekend all! 🙂
Haul/Rediscoveries: None to speak of this week.
Weekend plans: Was supposed to work all day Friday, but my building’s air conditioning was out and we ended up closing early (although not nearly early enough!). Relaxed yesterday, ran a few errands today.
What’s your favorite vegetable?: Either corn or green beans. I don’t mind lima beans either, since they have kind of a buttery flavor to them.
