It took me a minute to get what I was looking at in this Mellan photo! Lol

Haul: I recently heard about a vegan makeup company called Nuest. (Have you heard of them?) They had a free lipgloss giveaway yesterday, so I ordered one. It’s supposed to be a cross between lipgloss and stain. I suppose I sort of violated my no-buy, but all I had to do was pay shipping, and I was curious about this brand, even though it seems to be aimed at a very young demographic. I can’t wait to try it out! I also bought a backup bottle of Mon Guerlain perfume because it was on sale for 50% off at Macy’s and my current bottle is getting low.

Rediscoveries: Marc Jacobs Enamored Hydrating Lip Gloss Stick in One Mauve Time. Beautiful shade and comfortable formula, but annoying packaging: Why does it click so LOUD when you swivel it up, and why won’t it swivel back down? Who decided that was a good idea?!

Weekend plans: Visiting family, doing chores, working out, eating healthy, and hopefully getting some rest.

What are you looking forward to in May? Hopefully losing weight. I want to lose 15 pounds by mid-June, but I realize that’s probably not doable in a healthy way, so if I can lose half that amount, I’ll take it. It’s not easy when you love food and hate exercise as much as I do!

Genevieve Avatar

I have lost a lot of weight over the past couple of years simply by running after (quite literally!) after my grandchildren. Also I switched to eating more fish, less meat, more vegies and salads. And I love food, hate exercise too. So I know how hard it is. Best wishes Seraphine.

Haul/Rediscoveries:
For the Sephora sale, I wanted to get more but I wanted to order foundations I could not test the shade of in stores:
Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Foundation 1W0 Warm Porcelain & 0N1 Alabaster. Not my shade even when mixed. Also very dry at full coverage but I hate having to return stuff.
Viseart Eyeshadow Palette 10 Coy (love it!)
Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Long Wear Foundation 095 Ivoire W (This IS my shade with a little bit or white added)
PAT McGRATH LABS EYEdols™ Eye Shadow Lapis Luxury, Love this shade and replaces less pigmented versions I have of it.

Weekend plans: Working till I almost pass out…. That has been fun. 🙁

What are you looking forward to in May?: Anime North in full cosplay crunch time so no blogs from me.

Haul: Too Faced Born this Way Concealer, which I’m shocked to say DOESN’T CREASE ON ME (every other concealer I’ve ever tried does!) AND it doesn’t look crepey or drying! What is this magic?!?; ND Safari palette and Cranberry palette (thanks Sephora VIB sale); Pat McGrath La Vie en Rose palette (thanks PMGL 20% off sale!).

Rediscoveries: I dusted off my MUFE bronzer/highlight duo that has the pinky highlight in it and I forgot how beautiful it is! Also my PMGL pink highlight. Okay, pinky highlights in general I am having a love affair with right now… again.

Weekend plans: We might celebrate Mother’s Day a week early this weekend? Mother’s Day weekend is always NUTS in my area.

What are you looking forward to in May?: Warmer weather, going to yoga consistently again and getting back into some semblance of an exercise routine.

Tammy Avatar

Celeste,

I recently gave my daughter the Born This Way Concealer and so far she likes it. I have two shades of my own that I use periodically.

I love pink highlighters too, especially in the spring?

Ana Maria Avatar

Every concealer creases under my eyes, I always had fine lines, I’m just used to the idea. But I do have to admit that the Too Faced Born this Way Concealer creases the least on me; I’ve even tried it with more mattifying primers and powders and I’m still amazed how little it creases. And it lasts ages; I started using mine in October last year, use it almost everyday and product still comes out. The only thing I dislike about it is the doe foot applicator; I just find it unhygienic (I prefer concealers with a pump or squeeze tubes).

Ana Maria Avatar

Haul: Made a Sephora order with the Skinfix hand cream (so happy that I can find Skinfix at Sephora) since the hand cream I keep at work is nearly empty. I added a The Ordinary Vitamin C product, since I’m running out of that too. I didn’t even used sale code, the discount would have been tiny just for the hand cream; I preferred to get another mini of the Drunk Elephant Slay.

Rediscoveries: Nothing on this front.

Weekend plans: Lots of administrative stuff Saturday morning, hope I’ll have time for a long call with my mom (timezone difference makes it difficult) and a nice hike. Some grocery shopping and house chores are on plan as well. On Sunday I’ll be attending a symphony.

What are you looking forward to in May? I have many administrative hurdles to handle so May isn’t something I look forward to. Just hope to make my best and keep my mind distracted with small things when I can.

Haul/Rediscoveries: I’ve been on a foundation kick again because spring is here, and I finally got Fenty’s Pro Filt’r foundation! It really is that good, at least for my oily skin. Because of the dry-down darkening, shade matching can be a challenge for those of us without physical access, though, but the shade I got is close enough – I’m definitely going to use a lot of this!

On that note, I have splurged a ridiculous amount of money on foundation in recent weeks, from NARS All-Day Luminous (too luminous and the shade was too light, passed it on) and Giorgio Armani’s Power Fabric (beautiful but slides off my t-zone, probably passing that on as well) to Hourglass’ Immaculate Liquid Powder (not enough coverage for my redness!), and I’m glad at least this one paid off, although I’m still not sure any of them are as good as my old trusted UD Naked Skin foundation. So the result seems to be to stick to what you know and love unless you can test out new ones without throwing a lot of cash away 😀

Weekend plans: Work is consuming my whole life this month, and I’m trying to get ahead as much as I can.

What are you looking forward to in May? Finishing a professionally very, very interesting project (one of the things eating up my life right now) and some insight into what I want to do next. I feel like a chapter is closing for me – it’s been good, but I need to move on, preferably this year. Manifesting tips welcome, lol!

Tammy Avatar

UD Naked Skin is such a fantastic foundation! But like you, I keep trying new ones, often to discover the ones I originally loved were better than the new ones, lol. It’s part of the discovery aspect of beauty as a hobby and passion.

Kuávsui Avatar

It really is, isnt it? I don’t really regret any of those, the Hourglass is a good foundation for better skin days 🙂 And I don’t need to replace my UD foundation yet because I can go on trying these ones <3

Genevieve Avatar

If you buy a foundation, not costing much and it turns out to be the wrong shade for you, that sucks. A little while ago I had some Covergirl foundation, used about half and then left it in my cupboard. Some time later when I had run out of the foundation I was using, I decided to finish that one off – and it was good. I don’t know why I stopped using it.

AJ Avatar

Haul: I hit the Rouge sale but I didn’t go too overboard.
ABH lipsticks in Dead Roses and Insomniac, and the liquid lipstick in Requiem.
The new Bite Beauty lipstain in Sangria Slush.
The Sephora Lash Stash collection of minis, so I’m set for mascara for the rest of the year probably.
Sephora brand eye makeup remover.
Seed Phytonutrients shampoo.
Pat McGrath eyeshadow single in Divine Mink.
TheInkeyList Caffeine eye serum.
And since it’s my birthday month, I got the Drunk Elephant b-day gift.

Speaking of birthdays, my partner gave me the GoTxUD palette! I wasn’t planning to pick it up for myself but I sure made them nervous when I was looking for the GoTxUD stuff during the Sephora sale… I wasn’t planning to get the palette though, just the Winterfell Snow liner, which was sold out 🙁 Might try my luck with Ulta this weekend so I can get my Ulta b-day gift (not that I’m too excited about a mascara primer).

Weekend plans: Going to leave work a little early to do a tasting at a local distillery (we’ve got a Groupon that expires today). Then some errands and moving a few boxes over to the house we’re renting! Saturday will be a lot more moving, and Sunday we’ll hit IKEA for a couple things for the new place, maybe hit a brewery down in that area, and go out for a belated birthday dinner at one of my favorite restaurants (which I tried for the first time on my b-day last year!).

What am I most excited for in May? I am really excited about the house! I can’t wait to be done with apartment living. And I am also excited to go down to Portland for Journey through Egypt, a workshop weekend about the folk dances of Egypt. I have a lot of friends who have done it in the past (the teacher offers it around the country), but it has never worked out for me to attend so I am happy to finally get to go, and to have an excuse for a weekend in Portland (which one of my friends jokingly calls my second home).

I love that pic of Mellan! We have similar trouble trying to get our corgi to pose for cute pictures.

Tammy Avatar

Happy birthday! What a nice gift from your partner! The breweries sound fun. My son used to brew beer so my interest in beer as an art form was born there. I have a beer budget and research my beer purchases for family parties. My all-time favorite brew is Old Numbskull by Alesmith. I can’t buy it locally anymore which makes me very sad ?

AJ Avatar

Thank you Tammy!

There’s such a big brewing and distilling culture up here in the PNW, so there’s always some brewery or distillery or drinking-based festival for us to check out. We love it! Not that we’re lushes or anything — I have one drink and I’m done, maybe 2 on a special occasion! But we both love to try new things. It’s also really fun when you get to talk to the owner, or head brewer, or somebody else who is really passionate and knowledgeable about their craft.

I’ve really gotten into sour beers. One of my favorites was at the Deschutes Brewery pub in Portland. We stopped for lunch on our way out of town. They had a Thai-inspired sour beer and a sour cider… I ordered the cider, because I’m actually more of a cider fan than a beer fan. My partner ordered the Thai, and we traded sips as we always do, and I immediately regretted my choice, LOL. The Thai sour had lemongrass and I think ginger in it and it was so delicious and refreshing. We ended up getting a growler to take home to WA.

Genevieve Avatar

Happy Birthday AJ, that palette sounds wonderful to me and so thoughtful of your partner. The Journey through Egypt dance workshop would be sensational and I hope you get to attend it. Best wishes for the house too – far more enjoyable than an apartment, that’s for sure.

AJ Avatar

Genevieve, I’m definitely going, I bought my space a few months back. Got an Airbnb all lined up and now I’m weighing the merits of driving vs. taking Amtrak. I’m so excited! I love learning about dance 🙂

Nancy T Avatar

Still an absolutely precious pic of Mellan! Too bad my cats won’t leave Ulta bags un-chewn…

Haul: Try as I might half of Sunday night, I wasn’t able to get the UD GOT Vault. It NEVER even once showed up as available on Sephora, at least not on my end. Nor did I receive the email notification that I signed up for! Oh well. Anyway, I did order many of its pieces. Just received both the eyeshadow palette and highlighter palette this morning. Bought Arya’s Needle brush last night. Plus, I have Dragonstone, Night King and Lannister Gold 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencils, Sansa and Dany’s lipsticks coming. Also, a non-GOT related purchase of Bite Liquified Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Jicama. I figured since it was on clearance, I would see whether it was as awful as that Mauvember one I bought last year. No, it was not! Wore it out yesterday, and NO issues with it wandering all over my face via my smile lines! I still have to place an order for Dr. Dennis Gross Ferulic Acid & Retinol Eye Serum and Tat Harper Resurfacing Serum, unless someone here knows of less expensive option for Tata Harper’s? I was eyeing the one by Herbavore? But I’m open to an AHA/BHA for sensitive, breakout prone, yet aging skin!

Weekend plans: After dealing with a seriously stressful, tiring week, I just need to refuel. What a shame that our Trolley system in Scottsdale no longer goes to the park with the lake! Because I could really use that mindless mindfulness of watching the ducks and geese on the water, people watching of those fishing and others just wandering through, feeling the warmth of the sun in my muscles and sinews. Another oh well. I’ll just do my hair, nails, go to my meeting.

What are you looking forward to in May? Other than the rest of my packages arriving, not much really. I suppose I look forward to the last of nice cool evenings before the desert furnace gets cranking.

Nancy T Avatar

Thank you, Tammy. Yeah, I felt so disappointed and fairly disgusted by Sephora’s handling of how they went about launching the Vault. It never showed up as available for me, no email notification, YET, it was up on Mercari and eBay almost immediately by “verified as ordered” sellers! ?
Haven’t had a chance to play with the two palettes yet today. Hope to once I’ve showered and dressed, though! ?

brendacr1 Avatar

I was away and figured I missed the email(s) from Sephora. I checked my email daily but I’ve searched my email when I got home and I did not get any notices from them. I went in to Sephora today and was able to pick up a couple of the eyeliners. Never had this problem before with them.

AJ Avatar

Your cat does that too? Mine was a fiend for tissue paper and bubble wrap from packages! I would let him have the tissue but I would have to hide the bubble wrap.

I’m so sorry that you didn’t get the GoT vault 🙁 It really sucks to not get something you want and then see others scalping it. I hate that about limited edition makeup.

Tammy Avatar

Haul: I did some serious hauling at Sephora’ s sale.i have generally been on a low-buy for a year or so. I generally buy one product a week, sometimes two, or sometimes nothing. I keep a wishlist and when I have the opportunity to purchase on sale or for extra points, that’s when I buy. Sephora’s spring sale was previously not as interesting, but now that they’ve given Rouge 20% off, I am much more inclined to buy. In addition, I am now able to use my points for something meaningful ($100 for every 2000 points), so even though I can’t use the $100 during the sale, I am motivated by the reward. I am going to buy from Sephora either way, now it’s so much nicer to have a reward I actually value.

So my Sephora hauls have been large for this spring sale, but I put a great deal of thought into what I purchased and I feel great about the products I chose. Surprisingly enough, I’ve already tried most of these products, even though some only arrived two days ago. In previous hauls I tucked everything away for “later” but having spent months curating and thinking about my wishlist, I was so much more ready to dive in the minute I had these items in my hands.

This is what’s arrived. I placed another order this morning, and I will talk about that next week.

Natasha Denona Biba Palette. I actually purchased this palette the day before Sephora’s sale using my $100 reward. (I still can’t believe I got this palette for $30!) I was initially not interested in this palette but after hearing at least 10 beauty bloggers put it in their Sephora recommendations and monthly favorites, I decided to get it. I am more drawn to color, which is likely the reason I’ve had the next two palettes (below) on my eyes but not this one yet. It’s Natasha Denona, I have plenty of ND, I have no worries that the quality is there.

Viseart Coy. Gasp. The pictures online did not adequately prepare me for how beautiful this palette is. It was inspired by coy fish. The colors, their placement next to eachother–for the very first time in my life I did not want to touch a product because they just looked too pretty to touch. But I did and they are as beautiful on the eyes as they are in the pan. I posted a look I did with these here on temptalia yesterday. How many months did I wait to purchase this palette? It was worth the wait.

Viseart Editorial Brights. I’ve always wanted it, I just hesitated because a woman of my age should not be pining after (and wearing) a rainbow palette. But I knew it was exactly what I would need to take Coy where I wanted Coy to go, and so I ordered them together. I made the right decision?.

Huda Easy Bake Powder in Poundcake. I’ve heard Mel Thompson singing this powders praises for setting the under eyes and pores near the nose for months, but Mel Thompson is not 53. A beauty blogger in my age group mentioned this recently, again for setting the undereyes, and then I was ready to try it. I honestly don’t know what I was doing before. This product, when used with the next two products, has changed everything for me.

Becca Anti Fatigue Under Eye Primer. Another Mel Thompson ride or die. Mel is not in her 50’s, so she doesn’t know. But since I was trying her favorite powder under my eyes, why not her favorite under eye primer? I actually bought this from ULTA two weeks ago. What did I do before this. I misplaced it yesterday and lost my mind for the three minutes it took me to find it. That’s when you know.

Giorgio Armani Power Fabric Concealer. Like Biba, all the beauty bloggers are loving this. I almost didn’t order this because it’s hard to color match a product you can’t see. I took a chance, got #5, and I LOVE IT. I keep looking in the mirror throughout the day to see if the magic is real or if I just imagined it.

Charlotte Tilbury Cheek to Chic blush in Love is the Drug. This blush is fantastic, I’ve worn in everyday since it arrived.

Drunk Elephant C Tango Eye Cream: Repurchase, 3rd time, love it.

Drunk Elephant TLC Fromboos Glycolic Resurfacing Night Mask. New to me. Excited to try.

Farmacy Green Clean Cleansing Balm. Are you kidding me? Why haven’t I been using this since it was first released? Am I allowed to buy a dozen while it’s on sale??? This is so much better than anything I’ve ever used to remove my makeup!

Fenty Beauty Pro Filter Amplifying Eye Primer: Good primer, especially for aging eye lids. My eyeshadows have lasted through 12 hour days and workouts. Haven’t tested in the summer heat yet.

Milk Makeup Hydrogrip Primer. Haven’t tried yet.

Pat McGrath lip pencil in Contour. Swatches on hand, one minute later I could not get it off without makeup remover. I would be wearing it if I could take the next one off my lips.

Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat in Supersize Me. I am so glad I gave Charlotte Tilbury another chance. I hated Pillow Talk and shied away from trying any of the others. This is a deeper nude that works on my more pigmented lips. I love it so much, I can’t take it off. This might be the first lipliner I ever replace.

Pat McGrath Lust Lipglosses in Earth Angel and Bronze Divinity. Again, the pictures online don’t do justice to these glosses. Do you ever have those moments when you experience a cosmetic product that is so nice you wonder how you ever bought anything else and you’re tempted to throw what you own away because it just can’t compare? That’s how I felt when I saw and swatched these beauties. I own the two mini sets but the experience isn’t the same. I will be buying more.

Pat McGrath Luxetrance lipstick in Donatella. This has been on my wishlist forever but I never purchased because colors like these make me look like a corpse. Again, so surprised and glad I took a chance. This looks amazing! How can Pat McGrath take such a basic nude and transform it into something so beautiful? This is my first Luxetance lipstick and I am being impressed.

Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara and Velvet Epic mascara primer. Pure luxury. I would like to post a picture of my eyelashes to show you how they look. I have purchased so many high end mascaras and been repeatedly disappointed. These two products together are just amazing. How you use them will make a difference in the results you get. Andrea Ali has some great tutorials on how to apply mascara and primer.

There’s more but I’m put of time. To be continued next week…

Weekend plans: See the Avengers movie!

Looking forward to in May: Sunshine. The end of rain. Giving my daughter a beautiful dress I purchased for her from the Buckle. Playing with all my wonderful makeup goodies.

Kuávsui Avatar

Wow, I’m jealous of your hauling, such a wonderful selection! I love that you got Donatella, which is my dream nude only I havent gotten around to actually buying it – instead I have a drawer full of ”dupes” that don’t work or I just never use. So come the next pay day, I’m going to get it and toss out the extras! And maybe try a Lust lip gloss too 🙂

Tammy Avatar

Yep, sometimes it’s less expensive and more pleasing to just get the thing you want instead of buying all the dupes, lol.

Just FYI, Donatella looks lovely on top of other nude lip looks too. I had a nude liner, lipstick, and gloss already on when I opened my Sephora package, and just applied Donatella right on top. I highly recommend Pat McGrath’s Lust Gloss in Earth Angel to take Donatella to the next level. He’ll, I recommend Earth Angel period. It is stunning.

AJ Avatar

I really might have to give in and get Viseart Coy too! I keep seeing people on Temptalia rave about it. I almost bought it at IMATS but decided to focus on indie brands instead and somehow left without buying a single palette (even though I had been joking with my partner “Ok this thing was super stressful, that’s one more palette I’m buying at IMATS” and “if I get trapped in a conversation with your uncle at the wedding, I’m buying another palette”).

And don’t let anyone tell you what you can and can’t wear due to age. Enjoy your Brights palette! I think pairing it with Coy is a smart strategy and you’re going to make some beautiful looks with it.

Tammy Avatar

Thank you, AJ. Coy is so pretty! I used it with Editorial Brights yesterday to create an aqua date night look, by my husband’s request. I posted it on Instagram. I would love to follow you on Instagram. You can find me at tammy_medusa, if you’re interested.

Deborah S. Avatar

I am so living for your haul. I am now going to have to try the Huda powder because I am a powder junkie and just can’t help myself. You liked the Charlotte Tilbury pressed powder so figure we have similar taste in powders. There is so much from your haul I want to try. The Armani concealer sounds amazing. I love the Pat McGrath lip pencils and have about 4, I think. I also picked up 3 of the Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheats as I have 2 others and liked them also. I think the Pat McGrath’s wear longer.
I keep looking at the Coy palette and wondering if it could be that good. I may have to revisit it with my $100 gift card.
Finally, I am glad to hear the Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir mascara works for you. It was a total failure for me with both flaking and giving me raccoon eyes which is something I wouldn’t think was possible since to me flaking implies dryness while smearing implies oiliness. Anyway, glad it worked for you. Can’t wait to read what else you picked up for next weeks haul.
You have been killing it with the makeup looks on IG and here on the blog. You just look so beautiful and glowy in all the pictures. Have a great rest of the weekend.

Tammy Avatar

Deb,

I am living for my haul too, lol. I don’t think I’ve ever been as happy with a haul as I am with this one.

Yes, the longevity on the Pat McGrath lipliners is a thing to behold! I swiped it on my hand and then tried to remove it a minute later and it would not budge.

I think you’ll like Coy if you enjoy the color scheme. I really think this palette requires deep, colorful matters to bring out its full potential. But most Viseart Palettes aren’t meant to be stand alone and I think you know this.

Wow, I am so surprised to hear the Velvet Nior mascara was a fail for you. Did you try it with a primer? I always wear mascara primer because it helps prevent flaking and smearing. I workout with my makeup on, and without mascara primer I look like Alice Cooper when I leave the gym, lol. But seriously. I’ve had mascara down to the bottoms of my cheeks after a workout.

I have been enjoying makeup immensely this season and yes, it’s been fun to post the looks on Instagram. I love seeing your looks and life photos too. Thank you for following!

Tammy Avatar

Oh, Deb, I forgot to mention how I use the Huda powder, as we all know application technique is just as important as the product. I set my undereyes and pores near my nose by dipping a dampened beauty blender into the Huda powder and really press it into my skin. It will look dry at first but this softens some as the day progresses. I can’t imagine the Huda powder being glowy under any circumstances. It is designed for baking and sets whatever is under it exceptionally well. Great for oily girls but to be used carefully with dryer skin types. This is probably why the beauty bloggers I follow only use it under their eyes. It would be drying on the rest of the face.

I think you would enjoy Mel Thompson. She LOVES powders just like you do. She has taught me how to use different powders for different purposes, to good effect. Primers too. I now use three different face primers and three different powders every day, thanks to Mel, and I never would have thought it would make as much of a difference as it has.

Deborah S. Avatar

I am definitely going to check Mel out. Sounds like she would be right up my alley. Although why I would be buying a new powder I don’t know as I have 2 drawers full but that and lipstick are my weaknesses. I think I enjoyed my haul this time mostly because I hadn’t purchased anything in awhile and it just felt good to get some new things. I mostly did skin care so will be awhile before I know if I really love it.
Yes, it is strange about the Velvet Noir mascara. I did try it with a primer although if memory serves me, it was the Lancome Cils Booster primer and not the one by MJ. Not sure if that would make a difference. I like the Lancome primer but haven’t been using it much lately as I mostly use a 2 or 3 mascara routine and just didn’t want to add an additional layer. I honestly can’t believe I just wrote that sentence. On the daily I use 2-3 mascara’s, 2-3 skin primers, 2-3 powders, almost always at least 2 blushes and frequently more than one e/s palette. Not sure when I became so “bougie”. I didn’t know how to spell “bougie” and asked my daughter and she refused to tell me since she said a 65 year old woman should not be using that word. I told her age is just a number and why can’t I be “on trend” and up to the minute. She looked at me like I was an alien. Then she told me I spelled it wrong so we had a conversation over google and why it shows two different spellings. Anyway, then she asked me if the person I was responding to would know what it meant!! Really, today’s youth, LOL!

Tammy Avatar

I am laughing so hard right now! Had to read your comment to my husband, who was equally amused. “Bougie” (spelling confirmed by Urban Dictionary) is a derivative of bourgeois, which means upper middle class. Bougie simply means fancy or high end. It doesn’t take an exceptionally intelligent mind to figure this out.

It sounds like she underestimates her elders…

Deborah S. Avatar

She definitely underestimates at least two of us, LOL! Glad I could provide a laugh. I was watching a video about Rhesus Macaque Monkeys in Hong Kong, I sort of have a secret addiction to this channel, and I made the comment that it looked like one of the monkeys was “preggers”. She stopped what she was doing, turned to me and said, “Don’t ever use that term again.” I don’t really love the term but the guy who posts the videos uses it so I have kind of gotten into the habit. I like to pull her chain sometimes and so I kept asking her what was wrong with the term and she just kept telling me that older people shouldn’t use terms that are slang or cultural. What? Who made that rule. Anyway, she knows I do it to get a rise out of her but she can’t resist the temptation to rise to the bait.

She just picked up the Milk Gripping Primer and said that it did grip but she looks for something that keeps her skin matte which this didn’t seem to do. I used a tester of it and liked it but not sure I will purchase. I like something that blurs my pores, which seem to be getting bigger every day. I already use 3 primers and don’t know where I would put a 4th. Anyway, curious to hear what you think of it.

Nikki Avatar

None of us should be afraid to try colors and techniques that we’re told we “shouldn’t” wear. Everyone is different and every skin reacts differently to the same products-some young people have skin that’s as difficult as most middle-aged skin, and sometimes the color we think will look the worst on us ends up looking the best. Tammy, your anecdotes about the Viseart Editorial Brights palette and the makeup items Mel Thompson recommended are what made me think of this, and I just thought everyone on this blog could use the reminder.

Weekend Plans: I am off this weekend! so I plan to clean my apartment, wash my hair, and relax. I also have a meeting with some friends at the pole studio to try and figure out a Spice Girls routine.

What Are You Looking Forward to in May: I have a few routines due in June, July, and September, so I need to start focusing on those in May. So I’m looking forward to developing/fine-tuning existing routines. Also, there’s a show at my job that is going to be extremely difficult, so I’m looking forward to that being over.

Haul: Sephora VIB – in store Natasha Denona Biba palette, Super Goop 50 spa facial sunscreen, online used Temptalia link to order Tom Ford’s new perfume Lavender Extreme. Haul: UD’s Game of Thrones e/s palette (the packaging is beyond stupid but I am loving so many of the shades and I just wish they’d make Casterly Rock and Winter is Here into permanent singles), Lannister Gold and The Night King 24/7 pencil liners; a new bottle of Youth To The People Glowberry Oil and new Bye Bye Redness and Bye Bye Undereye replacements for my originals (I think it was this week but maybe it was last) and also from Youth To The People, their Kale Cleanser, which I am really loving.

Weekend Plans: my husband is away at a jazz festival in New Orleans and so I’m really enjoying having the house to myself. I’ll go to the gym tomorrow and cook what I like for dinner (I’ve been eating out with friends the last 2 nights) and maybe even go to Sephora one more time

What I’m looking forward to in May – better weather and going away for our 39th wedding anniversary at the end of May.

Haul: I went a little cray and bought about $200 of stuff at the Sephora sale. Mind you, I was low on a few things and I added a few things I needed. I got a ton or Ordinary stuff and I stuck to my no makeup edict for now. I might cave and get a new Bite stain if the reviews are good.

Weekend: The usual, just doing the needful and possibly some swimming/gym time.

May: I’m currently training a new employee at work I’m hoping I can trust them enough to have them cover for me by mid-May so I can go somewhere for my anniversary. I’m looking forward to some serious pool time!

Haul: I haven’t received any of it yet but from the Sephora sale I picked up repurchases of some skin care and then added a few new things to try. Repurchases would be the Blithe Tundra Chaga Serum, Blythe Vital Treatment Essence for Lift a, Dr. Dennis Gross Ferulic and Retinol Eye Serum and for new skin care I picked up the Algenist Genius Ultimate Anti-Aging BiPhase Peel, Peter Thomas Roth 21 Peptide Wrinkle Resist Serum and the Fresh Rose Deep Hydration Sleeping Mask. For my daughter I got the Briogeo Scalp Revival Stimulating Therapy Massager, Peace Out MicroNeedling Brightening Dots, The Ordinary 100% Organic Rosehip Oil, Belif The True Aqua Balm moisturizer and she picked two samples Bare Minerals Original Foundation and the Jouer Essential High Coverage Foundation. For makeup I picked up the Pat McGrath EyeDols Eye Shadow in Divine Mink, Bite Beauty Outlast Lip Stain in Sangria Slush, Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheats in Pillow Talk, Iconic Nude and Pink Venus, Touch in Sol Metallist Sparkling Foiled Eye Shadow in Holo Mulberry and finally the Violet Voss Eye Glitter Topper (because I don’t have enough glitter/shimmer in my life or my basket!!) in the shades Galactic Gem, Dream and Infinity. I really have to stop watching Tara but we all know that isn’t happening. I went back and forth on e/s palettes and in the end decided not to get any. I set a limit of 2 palettes for this year and I have purchased 2 so unless something truly spectacular comes along, I am going to stick to my resolution.

Weekend plans: It is suppose to be in the 60’s here over the weekend with partly cloudy skies so I am going to get some work done outside and prepare for some construction off of my craft room. I need to add a door for egress and it will open onto a 4% downward grade so I am thinking about a small screened porch to take it out past the grade and then just a simple one step down. It will give me a place to store wood pellets in the late fall so that I don’t have to walk so far carrying the 40# bags in the snow.

May is usually a pretty nice month here in Montana with the rigors of winter behind and not so hot that you can’t enjoy being out. It is also too early for the weekend boating enthusiasts to be on the lake so it is pretty quiet outside. All summer on the weekend there are bass fishing tournaments and boating, water skiing enthusiasts on the lake, which is really a river but due to the dam down stream, it is a reservoir. It can get pretty noisy at my house as I am only a couple hundred yards off the water. The other major factor is that it is too early for fire season so I don’t have to worry so much about the state being on fire. This year my daughter will be gone all summer so I am also hoping to get some deep cleaning done. For some reason, it is difficult for me to get into a cleaning mood when there is anyone else around. I really like cleaning an empty house with music in the background. Not exactly an earth shaking problem but just an idiosyncrasy of mine.

Mellan cheers me up, thanks for that Christine!

Haul/Rediscoveries: My low/no-buy was put on hold for the Sephora Rouge Sale and my trip to Vegas, still I think I did pretty good.
Target: Kristin Ess Hair Products.
Ulta: RT Rebel Edge Trio Brushes, It Confidence in a Neck Cream, Bare Minerals Ageless Genius Firming and Wrinkle Smoothing Neck Cream.
Sephora U.S.: Peace Out Micro needling Dark Spot Brightening Dots (wow do these ever work!).
Sephora Canada: Chloe Nomade Perfume, St. Tropez in Shower Tan, DE Retinol Cream, DE Marula Oil, Algenist Liquid Collagen, BB Skin LW Foundation, UD Got Night King Eyeliner, UD Got Lannister Gold Eyeliner, UD Got Dragon Smoke Eyeliner.
Weekend plans: My husband shared his cold, I’m trying to fight it but I think it’s a losing battle, that’s my weekend.

What are you looking forward to in May?: I am hoping the snow in our forecast will turn into rain instead. We are going to see Carrie Underwood in Vancouver on the 25th and I’m already looking through my western wardrobe trying to figure out what I’m going to wear. Not sure if we will be driving out to the coast or flying. Our flight back from Vegas was not good, (with the grounding of the Max 8’s the flights are really expensive) we flew to Calgary via Vancouver and our flight was delayed and it was not fun, it took us most of Monday to get home.

How cute is Mellon?
Haul – nothing this week and probably for awhile as our ducted heater has just given up on us and a new one (but much better) is going to be expensive.
Rediscoveries: Naked 1 – for a quick and beautiful neutral look.

Weekend Plans:
Friday – We had Lachlan over, who is just the sweetest boy out! At the local park he held hands with another little boy and helped him climb up to the platform to go down the slide, encouraging him all the way. So friendly and kind.
Saturday – wet and cold weather, just shopping, cooking and cleaning.
Sunday – We are going to a Memorial service for my cousin, who passed away from cancer in Queensland. The memorial service will be about her friends and family here in Victoria. She was a very kind and caring person, who helped everyone in the family in a very practical way. Everyone attending will be bringing food to share.

Looking forward to May: I love May – crisp autumn days and cold nights. Wearing my autumn/winter clothes and digging out my autumn shades of lipstick and eyeshadows.
I am pretty fond of Mother’s Day too (the second Sunday of the month) and this year I AM NOT COOKING! We are going out for lunch and that’s it.

Thank you Jessica. Brenda was the kind of person you could go to in times of trouble and she would listen and help you out. My family will certainly miss her wisdom and practical help.

Genevieve Avatar

She was Rachel – when her niece had twins, with a 14 month old as well, she would come over on her days off from her part time job and offer practical assistance – do the laundry, vacuum, bring over meals, mind the babies whilst Lee had a shower, take the older one to park etc. This was the kind of person she was – helpful, practical and kind. Everyone in the family loved her. Thank you for your kind thoughts Rachel, they are appreciated.

Mellan in the mirror, melting all hearts. Used the product swatch feature to grab a few discontinuing Bites and Oyster Pearl: really fun, as a topper or main shade. Was not stung by duplicates in lipstories, but strongly feel that should have been done more transparently, disclosing that the new mini-collection was actually repackaging. The volition set for a present. My most valuable haul was a much needed new PCP. Nothing special for w/e, but sorry that the Kentucky Derby benefit at the local carousel will prob be cancelled, due to interminable rain. May: leaves, returning birds, seeing if I am sun tolerant this year. Going in the ocean at 5:30 P does not capture the feeling of going to the beach.

I purchased far too many items from the GoT release despite thinking I wouldn’t get any when the initial photos were shown. I’m actually quite pleased with the quality of the eyeshadow palette.

I’d like to also pick up that NARS cream palette while Ulta has triple points, but leaving the house over the weekend is a tough proposition.

Not sure I’ve made any rediscoveries as of yet. Most things I’m using are either standards or new (UD GoT palette or the fantastic liners).

Haul: Sephora (20% off): Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask, Kate Sommerville Goat Milk De-Puffing Eye Balm, Natasha Denona Duo Chrome Top Coat in Brown Mauve/Purple, Hourglass Scattered Light in Smoke, KatVonD Tattoo Liner in Mad Max Brown, Hourglass Veil Setting Powder Mini, Bobbi Brown Luxe Matte Lip Color in Tawny Pink and Crushed Liquid Lip in Give A Fig.

Shoppers BB (20% off + $20 bonus gift certificates used): Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Blush No 20 (the perfect bronzer shade for me), Highlighting Powder in White Opal, and Rouge Coco Flash in Live. Placed pre-order for Chanel’s Cruise collection and for the Les Beiges 10-pan eyeshadow palette.

Aveda: lipsticks in Mulberry and Chili; lip pencil in pomegranate, and travel size Phomollient styling foam (HG, use every day). Mulberry is a gorgeous rosy pink lipstick and may well be my summer go-to shade.

Looking forward to in May: Warmer weather, going to farmers markets, BBQing, enjoying the outdoors more, and getting into a regular exercise routine.

Haul/Rediscoveries:
Sephora, 20% off:
Pat McGrath Mini Lust Gloss Trio Skin Show Nudes, full size Aphrodisiac and Flesh Fantasy

Weekend plans: Grocery shopping, cleaning, cooking – the usual. Leftovers and a movie tonight, cooking with my parents tomorrow, manicure.

What are you looking forward to in May?: Many family birthdays and a few graduations, along with warmer weather – can’t believe we’re already in May!

Hauls/ rediscoveries, I had the best week for that. Got the Game of Thrones highlighters and night king eyeliners. Both are amazing. Rediscovered Marc Jacobs eyeliners. I used them years ago and wasn’t impressed but they get such good reviews I decided to try again. Wow they are amazing.
Weekend plans- nothing, I just had rotator cuff surgery and it stinks
Looking forward to in May- My husband said we could buy a vanity with lighted mirror for me to get ready and keep my makeup organized so I’m super excited about that. He can basically have rest of bathroom so I’m elated!!

Nikki Avatar

Haul/Rediscoveries: UDxGoT Cersei and Daenerys lipsticks and Longclaw and Needle eyeshadow brushes. They were my only makeup purchases of the week, but I lucked out on getting them-just happened to refresh the tabs I had them open on at the time Sephora did the soft launch-and that really excites me because I don’t normally luck out on much of anything!
Weekend plans: Done, since it’s late Sunday night now! Worked all day and got groceries Friday, attended my church’s annual ladies’ luncheon and stopped into my local comic book shop for Free Comic Book Day yesterday, did laundry and mostly relaxed today.
What are you looking forward to in May?: That as of right now, it looks to be much less busy than April!
