- Haul: Some products from the Wet ‘n’ Wild Zodiac collection (not everything was in stock), Burberry Lip Velvet Crushes (x3), Natasha Denona Lila Palette
- Weekend plans: Spend some quality time with my boys, try to tidy up my “mail room” and sort through tested products for donation.
- Do you like audio books?: I’m a notoriously bad listener… I have to concentrate much harder to pay attention to sustained audio… like I can have a conversation that goes back and forth with someone just fine, but lectures and the like? I used to just type everything professors would say like I was working as a transcriptionist so I could read it through later. I love the idea but find reading better for me.

Haul: another bottle of Avene spray body oil, Soap and Glory Heel Genius foot cream, Givenchy Fuchsia in the Know lipstick (I got hooked on it from a Sephora points perk), several back ups of the Sephora contour eye pencils that are being discontinued (Fairy Tale, Diving in Malaysia – that is one of my faves – and Surfer Babe, Galaxy Girl and Good Mood. It’s heartbreaking that they’re discontinuing these even with the “silver lining” of a reduced price.
Weekend plans: dinner out tonight (we’re taking my husband’s “baby sister” – she’s got such a busy life that it’s a delight that she can join us), gym tomorrow and maybe tackling some weeds in the garden.
Audio books – I absolutely LOVE them (depending on the reader – I have some real favourites and few I find annoying). I listen to audio books at the gym when I’m doing cardio; I listen to them to fall asleep at night. I love that I can listen to a book while doing other mindless stuff like washing the dishes, walking to the coffee shop, ironing….it’s not often that I have a big enough chunk of time to sit down and read so audio books really work for me.
Oh no, those Sephora liners were some of the BEST on the market!
I know….I can’t understand why, though I see they seem to have added a few new shades (or at least, they’re ones I’ve missed). Honestly, Diving in Malaysia is such a great one, though maybe they think it’s close enough to Cappuccino that it won’t be missed (WRONG!!!). Their bright teal and green shades are beyond excellent and rival products costing twice as much. If I wasn’t afraid of them drying out, I’d have purchased 2 or 3 backups more each of the shades I really like. And if they dare to discontinue Cappuccino, I just might buy 5 of them!
Haul:
Sephora Lipstick Day sale ~
Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Gingersnap, Sweet Cream, Sugarcane, & Verbena.
Urban Decay Vice lipstick in Trip, Tryst, Checkmate, Fuel 2.0, and Wired. I tried to get shades in the Cream or Comfort Matte formulas. I was tempted to get a few metallic ones but I prefer the long wear of a liquid lipstick as they stay more shiny longer. ๐
Make Up For Ever Matte Velvet Skin Foundation samples in Y205 & Y245, not my shades but wanted to play with the formula first.
Marshals/Winners ~
Lime Crime Venus & Venus II palettes $30CAN each, Urban Decay VICE Special Effects in White Lies (might go back for more at $16CAN), and Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick in Catnip $10.
Weekend plans: I’m going to try and start sewing a new costume for FanExpo…. I have less than 4 weeks. lol
Do you like audio books?: I like the idea of them but just haven’t tried doing one yet. I usually listen to youtube videos while working on stuff. lol
Haul: Urban Decay Monarchy vice special effects topcoat. Hourglass veil mineral primer mini.
Weekend Plans: Helping a friend move on Sat. My cousin’s virtual wedding shower on Sun.
Do you like audio books? Nope, it’s too hard for me to pay attention to them and I get distracted easily. I had the same issues with lecture classes too, if there wasn’t a class discussion or a lot of visual aides I found it hard to pay attention.
Haul: Dior backstage face & body (was so excited about this, but have seen some reviews from people saying the fragrance breaks them out, so now I’m scared to try it!) and the milk makeup blur liquid matte foundation in porcelain (new lightest shade).
Weekend plans: Going up to a cottage for the long weekend! Honestly I think I would be just as happy to stay home with my cat watching old sex & the city reruns, but my niece will be there so that’s my driving for for going, lol.
Do you like audio books?: In certain scenarios. For long car rides they’re great! But I’m not the type who can listen while doing other things (like work on the computer).
Yeah, I don’t understand why brands like Huda, Dior, YSL, & Givenchy put heavy fragrances in products meant to go on the face. For people with sensitive or acne prone skin it’s a huge problem. I had the Givenchy powder & foundation and returned them both b/c I couldn’t handle the heavy perfume smell which was sad b/c they looked beautiful on the skin.
I have been wearing the Backstage foundation for two weeks without break out, and this is right on the tail end of the worst acne breakout of my life (I am not enjoying menopause ?). It all depends on your sensitivities. A lot of women can tolerate fragrance in their foundations, especially if the goodies underneath (toner, serum, moisturizer, sunscreen, primer) are fragrance free. Your skincare can act as a barrier to foundation ingredients.
Mellan’s sweet face is something I always look forward to seeing every Friday! ???
Haul: I just ordered the Dominique Lemonade Palette roughly a half hour ago. It just looks so beautiful swatched and also in YT videos of it being used! I also went to Nordstrom MAC counter on Sunday and got Delish as my freebie, plus did a Back 2 MAC and got Paramount lipstick, too. Bought a b/u of Li Li’s Motor City lipglass as I know I’m going through my 1st tube at a faster pace than usual. And then… I got caught up in the excitement of the day as I walked towards the MAC store. Yeah, I did “that”. Let myself fall into temptation. Got on their rather short line (compared to last year’s), and got Mixed Media. I know, I know. Bad. ?
Weekend plans: Going for my 6 week Remicade infusion today. Yuck. Tomorrow, probably food shopping? Sunday, my meeting. Will try to go in person instead of listening in on the phone tie-in.
Audio books? : I don’t have any! But I should with my vision issues. My one eye has amblyopia and crosses when I read or do fine detail work, so this would certainly be a kindness to myself to get some audio books! ?
Oops! I forgot that I also stopped into Nordstrom Rack and bought UD Chains and Acid Rain eyeshadows! ?
CHAINS…..I am SO jealously jealous!
My dog’s entire life is a break…lol! What soulful eyes Mellan has. ๐
ColourPop Haul:
The Zodiac and Double Entendre eyeshadow palettes, and Cruel Intensions and Birthday Suit blushes. I’m not exactly sure what prompted me to buy Double Entendre (it was late, I was half asleep) because (1) it’s too warm-toned for me, and (2) some of the shade names are very cringeworthy. I’ll probably wind up giving it to a friend. I started playing with The Zodiac last night and I think I’m going to have fun with this one. I’m wearing the Birthday Suit blush today and it’s very nice.
Weekend plans:
Dinner and drinks with friends, visiting family, chores, etc.
Do you like audio books:
I do like them…theoretically. I have long drives to and from work, so I joined Audible several years ago and now have a ton of audio books, but I usually wind up listening to music instead. Every now and then I’ll think, “I’ll start listening to a book tomorrow morning,” but I am The World’s Greatest Procrastinator. Never do today what you can put off…forever.
Yep, I would definitely be โshouldingโ with audio books. I would think I should listen to one of my books, but instead listen to music or audio from my favorite YouTube beauty bloggers.
Haul: Benefit Browvo Conditioning Primer (mini), Sephora Collection Melting Lip Click in Creme Brulee, Sephora Collection Lip Balm in Watermelon (so far I am not a fan. It feels gritty, but I know that they also have lip scrubs but I was very diligent about making sure I grabbed a balm and not a scrub, so this is probably going back), Bite Beauty French Press Gloss in Dirty Chai, Hourglass Caution Extreme Lash Mascara (deluxe sample), Ole Henriksen Cool Plunge Mask (deluxe sample – 100 points)
Weekend Plans: I have to work tonight, but Saturday I’ll be working diligently on choreography for my routine that’s due in two weeks and I have almost nothing (screams in self-deprecating memes), and Sunday I’ll be going to my grandparents house and eating a hopefully delicious meal that my younger brother is cooking (pray for me, this is his first time cooking dinner)
Do You Like Audio Books: I like them in theory, but I have a hard time concentrating on them. But the one book that I listened to was super boring, so maybe it was the book and the dictator because I can listen to podcast with no issue and I absolutely love LeVar Burton’s podcast which is basically Reading Rainbow for adults. So I guess the jury is still out.
Haul:
Drunk Elephant Eye CreamโIโm two weeks in and I love it!
Shy Uemura High Performance Balancing Cleansing Oil (Advanced). I am trying to switch to oil cleansers and this is reportedly one of the best. I chose this one because itโs supposed to work well for hormonal acne. After I cleanse with this I feel absolutely nothing, which I suppose is the point: clean skin without stripping. I just got my four-month menopause acne freak out under control, and Iโm crossing my fingers that this cleanser will be compatible with my skinโs needs.
I got a little rebellious this week and had that desire to go into a cosmetics store and buy something without reading the reviews. Since I have started purchasing synthetic brushes, I decided to add the IT Cosmetics All Over Powder Brush (211) to my collection. I have two Chikuhodo powder brushes I use everyday, and this one struggles in comparison to them. Itโs fun to play and maybe I will grow to like it. I am certain my granddaughter would love to take it off my hands if I decide Iโm not going to keep it.
Weekend plans: Tomorrow is cardio at the gym in the morning and then family steak dinner in the afternoon. Sunday will be my regular sculpting workout, laundry, and cooking for the week ahead.
Audiobooks? I donโt know because I canโt bring myself to buy them, so that probably answers the question, lol.
Haul: Nothing this week. I was in NY at the end of July and I did hit Sephora and a NYX store while I was there.
Weekend plans: Tomorrow will be mostly errands and chores, hopefully a bike ride. Sunday we are going down to the Renaissance Faire with a couple of friends. This is my 3rd summer in WA and I keep missing the Faire so I’m glad we’re able to go.
Do I like audio books? I love them for long car rides (4+ hours) because they keep me more engaged than music does, but the rest of the time I prefer reading books instead of listening to them.
Haul: Another bottle of Aveda Dry Remedy. I love this stuff. It last about a year for me with continuous daily use. I really want to get some replacements for skin care that’s out. I’m dragging my feet trying to shop my stash of samples.
Weekend: I’m still battling some bug, so I’m not sure. Food shopping for sure. Hopefully, some pool time.
Audiobooks: I like them but if I’m driving it’s a little much as i prefer music.
Haul:
*Macy’s (used $25 gift certificate) — MAC x Patrick Starrr 4-Pc. Floral Realness Full Face Set in Me So Fleek
*Apocalyptic Beauty Subscription — Steampunk theme (3 eyeshadows and a lipgloss different shades of copper)
*Makeup Eraser sample
Weekend plans: Take one of the cats to the vet for his shots. Paperwork. Shopping and chores.
Do you like audio books? Not really. My mind wanders. I much prefer reading a real book or on my Kindle.
Haul: Priceline, our budget beauty shop here in Aus, had a half price sale on all cosmetics this week and I availed myself of a few goodies: Nude by Nature Primer (the best), an eyebrow pencil, the L’Oreal True Match foundation in Rose Dore (1C) and Maybelline’s Burgundy Bar eye palette – which Isabella Muse raved about.
The foundation is stunning, very easy to use, blend and is my shade (in the past L’Oreal’s foundations were too yellow for me) and the Burgundy Bar shades are stunning, just like Muse said they would be.
Weekend plans: Friday – had the pleasure of my granddaughter’s company to go shopping after kinder and on Saturday we are all going up to the mountains for lunch at a beautiful hotel to see Puffing Billy (a steam train) go by.
Sunday – just housework and tidying up.
Audio books – I have never listened to an audio book, as I much prefer to read. My twin sister is a great fan of these and borrows lots of them from the library. But I am a great reader myself.
Haul: So much stuff!!
Fudejapan- Astalift and Flarossa Highlighters, Paul and Joe lipsticks x 2 (no shade names yet) and one Paul and Joe e/s duo. I also picked up Banana Kit Kats, Matcha Kit Kats and Strawberry Shortcake Kit Kats. They just shipped yesterday but will be here in about 3-4 days. Toshiya ships very quickly.
Ulta-Soap and Glory Shower Gel in the original scent, Catrice Glow Mist, b/u of NYX Waterproof e/s primer, Cerafil Shampoo and Conditioner for thinning hair.
Sephora- Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Never Say Never and Let’s Go Crazy, Huda liquid lip in Trophy Wife, Sephora brand Colorful Shadow and Liner pencils in #25 Green Shimmer and #09 Kaki, 2 more Drunk Elephant Little’s Kits for trip at the end of the month, Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille perfume, an atomizer, Super Goop Spray on SPF for reapplication and Bumble and Bumble Dry Shampoo.
Bath and Body- Four Fall Candles that I cannot remember the names of except one is Bondi Beach and one of the others is a lavender scented one.
I would like to find a tobacco/vanilla scented candle similar to Tom Ford scent as I love that combination of scents.
Target- Quite a few travel size products, tissue, toothpaste, Static Guard, Antibacterial Toothbrushes, Antiseptic gel, Silicone tubes, clear plastic quart bags for 3:1:1 , Universal Adaptor/Converter, RFID money belt and wallet, luggage scale, Pixi Glow Mist and Milky Mist.
On-line- Calpak Carry-On luggage in Blush with packing cubes, Calpak Pullman in Marble shade, Carry On in Marble, Murphy Under Seat bag in cream, Laundry soap towlettes and another Universal Adapter/Converter with USB ports.
Ebay- I picked up the Meteorites Perfume from an Ebay seller. I didn’t like the new scent that was just released a short time ago so went searching for the original which I haven’t had in many years. I was able to find a seller and the price wasn’t horrible. It is much closer to the actual scent of the Meteorites Pearls which is primarily a lilac scent so I am happy with it.
Nordstrom’s- Born walking shoes in black, Born walking shoes in navy blue, white denim skirt, pajamas and Dior Brow Kit in blonde.
Dillards- Sorley Rose Gold Sandals x 2 (one pair for me and one for my daughter. We usually only buy one pair as we wear the same size and so we pick up different styles and trade off but these were so cute and we both thought we would wear them a lot in Europe so got two pair), peasant blouse in white and black to go with white denim skirt and a pair of NYDJ’s in a medium green shade.
Travelon- Deep purple quilted under seat bag, luggage tags and hand soap towels.
Weekend plans: A friend of my daughters had volunteered to take care of our cat while we are gone in Europe. We agreed to pay her what we would pay at a boarding kennel. Well, she flaked out on us this week so we are trying to find a boarding kennel that we like. It isn’t very straight forward and when your pet is so precious to you it is even more difficult. So many that we have visited are really dirty. I was pretty shocked at how dirty they were. Our cat has never been away from either my daughter or myself. She has always traveled with us and has never been around other animals. I am super stressed out about it and would seriously consider cancelling our trip if we hadn’t already paid for everything. So this weekend will be more trying to find a place.
Audio Books- No I haven’t ever listened to audio books. I am a voracious reader and prefer the physical book in my hand although I have read a few on my Samsung Galaxy Pad but when possible, I still prefer the good old fashioned books.
I live in Born shoes. I bet I have 15 pair!
The ones that I picked up feel super comfortable just walking around the house. I got them in a dark forest green color but when I got them home they look more brown so may exchange for a denim shade. I like green but these are just not the color I wanted. I have never worn Born shoes before so pleasantly surprised by the comfort.
Hi Deborah, I can relate to your cat care problem! I hope you find a nice place to board your cat or someone to care for him in your home. I wonder if your vet or a local feline nonprofit (or even a ‘Best of Your Town’ survey) might provide additional options. Fingers and paws crossed it works out!
Hi Tracey, unfortunately I live in a small town in western Montana. We have no boarding kennels here at all. So, I have to find a place in Missoula and as I mentioned, I visited a few but couldn’t find one that I felt was the right fit. I have little or no options. So, I found a Veterinary clinic that is clean so I think I am going to go with that one. They rarely have more than a couple of cats boarding there so they will have room. She will hear dogs barking and potentially see them also and that will scare her to death. She will be in a cage for most of the time. They have assured me that she will be fine and they told me that animals are very resilient so not to worry. The good news is that if she is sick the vet is right there. I am trying to find a silver lining in the cloud!!
Haul: nothing this week
Weekend plans: Going to see the new Mission Impossible movie and hang out with family
Do you like audio books?: They’re not really for me. I’d rather read on my own at my own pace. Also I’d rather listen to a podcast if I want to hear someone talk.
I’d maybe be interested if it was for a book I’ve already read before, like the Harry Potter series. It wouldn’t be a big deal if I lose focus for a few minutes since I already know the story so well lol.
Haul: No purchases this week. Thoroughly enjoying my recent purchases.
Weekend Plans: It’s going to be 95F this weekend, so staying cool and hydrated and likely tackling a file downsizing project.
Do you like audio books?: I don’t know, I’ve only listened to audio clips in e-books.
Haul: I am a weirdo so I never buy stuff when itโs popular and generally, not into very popular things. So I hauled two Illamasqua palettes in sale: Shiver and Delirious. I have a Illamasqua wuad and love tge quality, so I decided to buy more from this brand. I also bought a UD Finger brush and Mac small blending brush, dont remember the number.
Weekend: we are on vacation in Italy so we spend a lot of time at the beach and sightseeing.
Audiobooks: I want to love them, but I perceive information better when I can see the speaker.
