- Haul: NARS Orgasm Vinyl Lipgloss, simplehuman mini travel mirror, Inglot x JLO Pigments
- Weekend plans: I have a slew of photos I need to edit and crop, so I’d like to get through those, and I’d also like to get back to being a couple of days ahead on the blog as that was a lot less stressful than writing posts the night before. (It’s inevitable that sometimes that happens, but for the last couple of months, I’ve had a little more prepped.)
- What are you most looking forward to this summer?: I think my grandma is visiting my parents, so I’ll either see her at my parents’ house or they’ll all come visit me here in AZ.

Aww! I want to cuddle him! Mellan is such a love! ?
Haul: Just a refill of my HG Ole Henriksen Truth Serum, a wet/dry Remington rechargeable shaver and another cat t-shirt! But the day is young. I’m on my way to meet up with my daughter for 2 different Dr. appointments. Later on, an appointment of my own.
Weekend plans: You know; SSDW.
What are you most looking forward to this summer? There’s a decent to good chance that I’ll be visiting NJ/NYC. I hope. But I hate traveling all alone like that. I wish one or both kids would accompany me, but their jobs would likely never acquiesce.
Hoping for good news from the doctor ?
Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers, Nancy.
Cat shirts for the win! Hope all the appointments go well.
Hope all is well.
Hoping that everything goes well with your daughter’s and your medical appointments. Big hug!
Hope all the doctor’s appointments deliver good news Nancy, take care.
Thank you everyone for wishing my daughter well! She’s definitely in the hands of some very capable doctors. They will be conducting in-depth testing in order to figure out what’s going on.
Glad to hear the appointments went well.
I know how much you miss NJ, so I hope you get to visit!

What are you most looking forward to this summer?: Conventions mostly. No big plans for me.
Haul: Nothing again!
Weekend plans: We just pulled into my brother- and sister-in-law’s house last night, and we’ll be staying here for the summer while my husband works up here. He’s working all weekend, but I’ll be unpacking all our stuff. I’m 10000% sure the baby has more stuff that my husband, my dog, and me combined!
What are you most looking forward to this summer?: Spending a looooottttt of time with my PA/DE friends & family!
What all is involved in your photo editing process, Christine?
Good job with the no buy. Your priorities are just where they should be, with the little one.
Hi Kjh,
I wouldn’t say it’s a no buy necessarily. My budget just has no breathing room with my husband not having worked that much the last couple months since the baby was born. Thankfully we’ve been gifted plenty of diapers and wipes. The only thing he needs is clothes—he’s growing so quickly.
Yes Joyce, when you have a baby and go away you need to take everything bar the kitchen sink. I used to keep spare towels, socks, clothes and nappies in the boot of my car, just for emergencies whenever I went anywhere.
How is your little treasure going?
Haul: Lunatick Cosmetics Vampira palette.
Weekend Plans: Brewing today. Going on the Atlas Obscura walking tour of Graceland Cemetery on Sunday.
What are you most looking forward to this summer: Spending a week at Table Rock Lake with my brother & his wife. We got a 2 bedroom condo with a full kitchen right on the waterfront in Kimberling City and we’re either going to rent a slip so we can bring our boat or rent a boat for the week.
Alice, this sounds absolutely dreamy. Enjoy that trip!!
I just looked up the place on Goggle – and it seems like a fabulous place to stay. Really beautiful scenery and the lake looks fantastic. Enjoy your week Alice.
Actually did a Sephora haul. Lovely SA, good samples. Little Sephora, of course, which exceeds the bigger S experience by 10,000 fold. Bite: star anise (far lighter than Thistle and less beige than OG cava on me. A big must, if you like hourglass mood light, but not much else hg.) Zata’ar, that I thought would be the pick, had no plum on me, forwent. Crushed Chili was a taker. Surprisingly, seeing the Nars summer stuff, Voodoo Lily was super, sheer mlbb, but shimmery/sparkly. But, wow, the hit was the Fenty poolside/7 day weekend. That product is unreal. Fun for HL, but terrific as a shadow blender/topper. Tried it over some like colors from Nyx marine layer, and it looked as if Wayne G had done my m/u. Seriously. Might have to score more, or the evening lip set. This stuff is so refined, that you don’t have to worry about the age factor at all. 2 of the new mufe pencils, mauve and slaty blue. SSDW with Sat off at last. Maybe a solo day trip, as I haven’t been anywhere in ages, or take Jussicake supercouple to the state park for the first time post Patti’s surgery. This AM, she did not look neuro at all. Yay, Patti! Saw 5 lab meet and greets this week, reminding me why they are so awesome together. Like yours! Summer: the easy answer is the ocean. The hard answer is getting to the bottom of whatever medical thing is off. I have zero trust in docs at present and procrastination was always my best skill.
Oooh Kjh, the Fenty sounds heavenly. Drat my no-buy!! Always nice to have the quality of a product confirmed especially with someone who isn’t 20 years old, LOL!!
IDK what happened, my good wishes to Nancy popped up here….But, you could TOTALLY do the summer kilawatt. I suspect the bronzy/minty blue would be the most universal and useable. The minty on the brow bone, HL, l/s topper, and the bronzy is so universal. You know how refined shimmer diffracts the light, and winds up looking better than mattes, for the eye lines? Well, this $#!+ smoothes them out totally. I have ben let down more than impressed in 2018, but that product is the total bomb for all ages.
Thank goodness your little doggie seems to be doing better.
Haul: Melt Cosmetics Gemini Palette & She’s In Parties Stack – it should be here Saturday, but since I have everything delivered to my job and the office is closed, it will actually arrive on Monday.
Weekend plans: working on Friday night, working out Saturday morning, & going mini-golfing Saturday afternoon
What are you most looking forward to this summer?: my staycation in July. I just need a break and to be able to get more than 6 hours of sleep in one evening. And my pole competition is in July so that will be great, and I’ll be performing in twice in August which will be fun. Now I just need to solidify my routines *eep*
Ooh, the melt pencil ‘suitcases’ came, while I was at day job. And before I trotted off to night job, I HAD to throw some pencils in. General impression: quite good. Believe they overestimated the capacity and the zippers are not first rate, so I don’t see them lasting forever, but well worth the purchase.
Haul: Just one purchase in the past two weeks but that purchase was wonderful! Picked up Kevyn Aucoin’s Neo Blush in Rose Ciff. It’s jusy so beautiful. I think what makes it so special is how the deep pink (almost plum) fades to rose and then to that lovely guava. I would not have intuitively known such a combination would be so pretty.
I have been digging deeply into my stash these past two weeks and enjoying all the makeup memories from recent years. I have been wearing my LE Chanel Quads (Codes Subtils, Codes Elegants), Morphe Jaclyn Hill Palette, MUFE Nudes You Need, MAC’s Selena collection, and MAC’s Flamingo Park Collection.
Weekend plans: We started a new series called Alias Grace on Netflix. Excellent so far. We tried to watch Mr. Robot but were so put-off by the very immature and “cool” (maybe in the eyes of a teenager?) protagonist that we quickly moved on. Tonight we’ll get dinner out and watch Alias Grace. Tomorrow is gym and grocery shopping. Sunday I will cook ahead for the week. I’ve been moving towards a paleo diet for a month. It’s a big overhaul. I am now mostly gluten free and this week I’ve been successfully at eliminating all dairy except for the tiny bit of half n half I have in my coffee every morning. I feel great!
Summer: I most look forward to being warm. I am a California/Arizona transplant and these Midwest winters just kill me. No, seriously, it becomes physically AND emotionally painful. I am wondering if I can find a job where I don’t have to leave the house from December to March.
I loved Alias Grace. It was such an atypical crime drama. Didn’t follow the “formula” at all, but had its own path.
I think I have to look up this Crime Series Alias Grace.
I think as you get older your need or tolerance for dairy decreases. I used to love my Iced Coffees, but I can no longer tolerate them. I just have a bit of milk in my coffees and decaf teas now.
I am sure I am preaching to the choir here and that you already do this but worth a mention. Are you taking any Vit D during the long winter months? I knew about Vit D of course but never thought I needed it and probably didn’t when I lived in California but since moving to Montana I have found that it helps me a lot through the winter months. I was a bit skeptical but could actually tell a difference this year. I also found that if the sun was shining, no matter how cold, I would go out and get a 1/2 hour of direct sun light. You have to take your glasses off to benefit as it is absorbed best via eyes but that little bit was a big boost also. As far as just being freakin cold and gloomy I haven’t found a cure for that yet!!
Deb, I had to start taking vitamin D two winters ago. I look for sunlight opportunities in the winter. It isn’t uncommon for me to sit in the driveway in the car after we get home from the gym on Saturdays, soaking up sunshine through the sunroof! My son and husband don’t get it.

Weekend plans: I took the day off today for a very much needed “me” day. Spent the morning running errands and then did some shopping (clothes). Tonight my daughter is coming over for dinner. The rest of the weekend will be working on my blogs/swatching/photographing and maybe some more shopping (LOL).
What are you most looking forward to this summer?: I hope to actually plan a real vacation. I am not a Summer person so am looking to head north. Perhaps Nova Scotia or Maine.
Yep, that would be my ideal vacation too – except that I would go South (to Tasmania or NZ). Both NS and Maine sound lovely. I hope you found yourself some lovely clothes.
I hope you enjoy the Crayola products! Are you planning to post a review on the blog? If so, I’d love to read it 🙂 “Me” days are important. I hope it was really relaxing for you.
Haul: Did pretty well on my no buy this week and only picked up a mineral foundation from L”Oreal for summer days when I don’t want to put on a foundation but want something to seal my sticky sunscreen in place.
Weekend plans: Nothing special. Continue to work around the house and may clean my carpets. My daughter can help me move the furniture and I have a really good cleaner so it goes pretty fast. They haven’t been cleaned in quite a while and walking in from the snow tracking mud and snow debris takes its toll. In the summer time it is mostly deer and turkey droppings!!
Looking forward in summer: WOW, there is so much I am doing and looking forward to this summer. In early July my daughter and I are making a trip to Seattle so that she can attend a Harry Styles concert. Then the first of August, her birthday, we are going to Spokane to stay at the Davenport Hotel. We are going to tea at the Silver Spoon Tea House in Spokane and then brunch on Sunday at the Davenport. We will be going a little before her birthday. Then August 25th she and I are both seeing Ed Sheeran in Seattle. We are leaving from there for our European vacation. I am so excited I can hardly stand it. My only problem is figuring out what to do with my daughter’s cat. I don’t have anyone I trust to take care of her that doesn’t already have a pet and Sophie is anti all pets except herself. She isn’t too fond of people either. I dread boarding her but may not have any choice. Anyway, the trip. We are flying to Iceland and staying there for 3 days, roughly a week in London and then some day trips on our way to Scotland. From Scotland we are headed to Paris and the French countryside. Then Italy where we are stopping in Venice for a few days, Florence for one day and Rome for roughly a week. Then on to Greece where we will stay for a few days before embarking on a cruise to Santorini, Mykonos and a couple of other islands. We will fly home from Greece or potentially from Istanbul as most departing flights from Greece go to Istanbul so may stay there for a little break then back to the USA.
What a wonderful trip you are planning Deborah – just all the best places. Loved, loved and loved Rome, Scotland and England. You will love it.
Deborah, your summer sounds amazing!! I hope you love it 🙂
Deb,
I am keeping your family in my thoughts. I am hoping the two children who were in critical condition last week survived. My condolences on the death of your cousin.
On to brighter things, your summer vacation plans sound beyond amazing. Do you usually take such splendid trips or is this summer extra special? Do you plan them yourself or do you have assistance? I am looking forward to seeing lots of photos on Instagram?
Deborah, I’m sorry I’m missed your bad news. My condolences, and prayers for your family.
Your vacation plans sound fantastic!
Wow, what an awesome trip! So many of those places are on my wishlist!
*Haul – nothing this week but, but have stuff on order
*Weekend – massive spring cleaning project
*Summer – getting away! Going camping soon, I don’t really like camping, but family is going, and at this point, I really need a vacation, and I’m sure the sunshine/fresh will do me some good
Camping can be great when the weather is fine and the amenities are good, other than that it can be a tad dismal. Your little one will enjoy it and there really isn’t much ‘housework’ to do either. It helps if your husband doesn’t leave your suitcase and clothes behind either (as my husband did one time).
We are big campers, back in the day when our kids were little as it was the only affordable holiday we could go on.
I think, with your family around you, you will probably find it more relaxing than you thought it would be. Any parent working full time needs a holiday.
LOL I bet your husband has never been able to live that one down! Thanks Genevieve. I hope I will have fun camping this time. I’ve roughed it before ( sleeping bag, communal shower/bathroom area or worse, no showers and only pit toilets) and hated it. This time, I will be be glamping -will be in a no frills motel nearby, but at least it will have bathroom, shower, microwave, fridge, TV. Hubby loves to camp, so he’ll be outside with some family friends, and our toddler can choose between the tents with her play buddies or my room, so we’ll see. She doesn’t seem like a camper either, so will probably end up with me. The group will take turns BBQ’ing and cleaning, so will be good.
Haul: nothing (I am trying a “low buy” coupled with a “Canadian/European buy”. We’ll see how long til I cave…
Weekend plans: taking my car in for oil change and TLC early Saturday and them to the gym; we’re driving down to Niagara on the Lake on Sunday for lunch and a look around, maybe stop at a winery or two.
What I’m looking forward to most this summer: My older son coming home for a week or so (he’s in the military); spending time with my daughter who is also a teacher AND sleeping late!
That sounds like my kind of weekend Mariella – a drive to a lovely place, a Sunday lunch and a winery visit. Bliss.
Sleeping in is the best thing too.
Haul: At Walgreens, I bought the Wet n Wild Comfort Zone Eyeshadow Palette. (Special thanks to Erica for writing about her eye look in which she used MAC Malt in crease and MAC Sun, Tan & Repeat on lid. Unfortunately, Sun, Tan & Repeat was sold out, so I looked up the dupes and found Comfort Zone #8. In any case, it is a really nice combination that I wouldn’t have thought of otherwise. And I’m liking this WnW palette a lot.) At Saks Fifth Avenue, I succumbed to temptation and bought Giorgio Armani Rouge d’Armani Lipstick in Kimono, a gorgeous purple-y pink. (On this same shopping trip, as a weird, unplanned coincidence, I bought a beautiful kimono by Guess.)
Weekend: Going to a party with friends
Haul:
L’Oreal Lash Paradise. B+/A-. I’ve been using Monsieur Big by Lancome. What a total clump mess I have to deal with every day with the Lancome. Most women love this mascara, and I wonder what the heck my problem is. I have super long lashes and it just gets everywhere even with scraping it on the tube and wiping it off. I really like it in many ways, but it’s so messy. However, not sure Lash Paradise is my answer. Suggestions of what you like?
Nars Sun Wash Diffusing Bronzer in Casino. It’s OK. Hoola Bronzer works perfectly on me, so I’m not sure why I felt compelled to get this. It’s nice enough but not ringing any bells.
Peter Thomas Roth Max Mineral Naked Broad Spectrum SPF 45.</b I have been on the search and I think this will be good under makeup in the summer. Dries down nicely. Liking it so far.
Travel 10x magnifying lighted travel mirror. Where have I been? I need this with so much travel coming up.
Weekend:
My office closes on Fridays in the summer and that started today. I worked most of the day, but it’s nice to sit around in shorts and do things at a different pace. I’m packing for a week long trip to LA, Sun-Fri. I have a major filming project I’m in charge of so it’s off to Hollywood! (It is a combo of fun and very long days. I always come home exhausted.)
Summer plans: My husband and I will be taking our 5th trip to Paris in late July with a side jaunt to the Loire Valley. I’m traveling so much between now and then for work that the plane flight doesn’t thrill me, but once we get there….I’m really looking forward to it. It’s a big world, we know. But the allure of that city just draws us back again and again.
That’s a nice summer practice of closing on a a Friday – I am sure you are going to enjoy your extra time off. Good luck with your filming project in LA and Hollywood – it sounds very exciting.
I dug out my Hoola Bronzer and have been using it daily for the past two weeks. I forgot how perfect this bronzer is, and I actually love the brush, it’s perfect for contouring my cheeks.
Hoola — on me too it’s really right. Sometimes I’m searching for I don’t know what. I didn’t need that Nars option for sure.
Haul: I didn’t actually buy anything but I got some Erno Lazslo cleansers and Stila glitter and glow liquid eyeshadows that Deborah S. sent me from the US. Plus she sent me some of her local huckleberry and chokecherry tea, pancake mix and syrup so I was thoroughly spoiled. 😀
Weekend plans: Making a big batch of spaghetti and meatballs!
Looking forward to summer: Well, its winter in the southern hemisphere, and we just came off the hottest summer temperatures on record in my city, so no – I’m enjoying the cold actually!
A reflective looking Mellon1
Haul: Ozsale (an Australian online retailer) had a fantastic sale on EA and Clarins products, so I bought a few lipsticks – Ginger glaze is one of them and a Sweet peach blush.
Weekend Plans: It’s a long weekend here due the Queen’s Birthday, so it will involve some housework, shopping, a drive and a family dinner.
Looking forward in Summer – Well, I never look forward to summer here – it’s far too hot for me. The only good thing is that you can easily get your clothes dry on the line. And if it’s been a hot day, you can take the kids to the park in the evening when it has cooled down.
We’ve just started winter here and up until yesterday it has been magnificient – really cold nights but beautiful sunny and cool days. Melbourne at its best.
Haul: CCO (extra 40% off) Bobbi Brown Soothing Cleansing Milk and Liquid Art Stick in Lily, MAC Careblend Pressed Powder, and (extra 20% off) Tom Ford Seductive Rose Eyeshadow Quad. Also received a Bobbi Brown Luxe Eyeshadow single in Heat Ray that was on backorder.
Weekend Plans: After having family visit and then going out of town, I need to take stock and re-establish my to do list.
Most looking forward to this summer: I love going home in June/July to spend time with my mom and mother-in-law, enjoying favourite places and seeing gorgeous sunsets from my mother’s deck.
Haul: Nothin! It’s been a rough week, I injured myself. With Kate Spade and Bourdain both committing suicide, I’ve really been in the dumps. It’s going to be a few weeks before I’m 100% again so I might indulge in some retail therapy soon.
Weekend: My brain wants to do things but the body isn’t cooperating. Probably just playing games, Netflix, shopping for food if I can manage, and maybe a very light swim. I tore/strained a muscle/ligament in my left leg so I have to be pretty careful for a while. Will get MRI in 8 weeks if it’s not better to see if I need surgery. I also made the hard choice to get back on Antidepressants after being off for several years. They are kicking my butt today, so home is the best option all round.
Summer: I was looking forward to a lot but now I gotta baby my leg. So for now, mostly my pool and heirloom tomatoes 😛
Erin hope your leg heals quickly and that you adjust smoothly to your new medicine.
Haul: Bought nothing, but a palette that I bought on pre-order a long time ago finally arrived and the lid was broken; also, three or 4 of the eyeshadows are completely shattered, Haven’t had the energy to try contact the company yet. 🙂
Weekend plans: Make a pie and dinner with friends tonight. Hopefully do some yard work tomorrow, but we’ll see – I actually have quite a lot of work work to do, and brought my work laptop home for that very reason.
What are you most looking forward to this summer? Not sure, really — the only plan I have other than working and trying to relax on the weekends is going back to my childhood home in a couple weeks to visit my grandma, who still lives there.
How did that come out as a smiley face? I swear I typed a sad face. 🙁
Alecto I feel sad for you receiving that broken palette. It’s always a letdown when you wait a long time to for something and it arrives broken.
Haul:
*Sephora — Fenty Beauty Iridescent Lip Luminizer Trio in Summer Daze and Summer Nights; samples; Aerin Mediterranean Honeysuckle (GWP).
*BH Cosmetics — Marvycorn 13 Color Shadow & Highlighter Palette; Nouveau Neutrals 26 Color Shadow & Blush Palette; Naturally Flawless Foundation in Ivory; GWP — Blushed Neutrals 26 Color Shadow & Blush Palette (I had it already, so I’ll give this to a friend).
*Darling Girl Glitter Gram Subscription for June
Weekend plans: My mom got off the respirator and out of ICU yesterday (Friday). Today (Sat.) I’m taking a day off from visiting her (my brother visited instead). I’m supposed to have lunch out with my older son. Sunday, I’ll probably visit Mom. I’m hoping to get an article written.
What are you most looking forward to this summer?: Longer daylight hours. It makes driving at night so much easier for me.
Haul: Nothing bought or received this week, but I’m thinking about a lot of stuff. I have a haul saved in my UD online bag that I’m not sure when I’m going to buy-Beached 100 Degrees lipstick, Lucky 24/7 eyeliner, Double Team Deep End mascara, Original Eyeshadow Primer Potion, and Optical Illusion primer. Pretty sure I’ll have to succumb and buy the Born to Run palette when it comes out Tuesday, so I might just wait and buy them all together. I’m also considering the Fenty Beauty Killawatt 7Day Weekend/Poolside highlighter from Sephora and the Kevyn Aucoin The Expert Bloodroses mascara from Nordstrom.
Weekend plans: I worked all day today and ran some errands yesterday. Not sure about tomorrow.
What are you most looking forward to this summer?: I have a fancy makeup look planned for my uncle’s annual 4th of July cookout.
