- What do you like most about January?: It’s about as cool as it can get in my area (Arizona), so it is nice to have some different temperatures, though I get cold so easily that I ended up getting a space heater last month, LOL!

What do you like most about January: well dec/jan are the months when I have the least chronic pain. Also snow, ice, & frost make some really interesting macro photos.
I hope your chronic pain (which doesn’t sound too good) is easing in the weather and I am sure you are taking lots of good shots with the snow and ice.

What do you think about your Melt stack? I got mine and swatched it and wasn’t wow-ed. With mine, the shimmers were ok with the lightest being the best but the mattes were dry. Also, how did the LC work out?
I haven’t used the Melt stack yet.
And the LC dye was a waste. I regularly use Manic Panic Amplified dyes and they show up just fine on my medium brown w/some gray hair. But this was like I had done nothing even though I let it sit in my hair for an hour after 15 minutes of heat setting. I’m glad they had sample packs because if I’d bought a whole tub I’d have to return it :/ I thought the color was unique which is why I tried it but I’ll definitely just stick with MP.

Haul: Just eggs cups off of Amazon. lol was looking to get some for 2 months now and no one locally had them.
My 2017 favoruites is up. I was surprised how palette and highlighter heavy it is this year. ;P
I also depotted the Urban Decay Heavy Metals Metallic Eyeshadow palette, that was very satisfying! Didn’t make my 2017 favorute because I was testing it past the end of the year but I still love the shades enough to get rid of the packaging 2 days ago!!!
Weekend plans: Work and getting ready for a job interview on Monday.
What do you like most about January?: I take this month of rest in that I don’t plan anything. It’s really bitter this year as well so staying cosy at home is my plan when not out for work. lol
Warpaint, was the UD palette difficult to depot?
It was nerve-racking at first but it was not bad at all once I understood how it was all made and the temperature range the plastic could take.

It’s in my city this time but the far side. 😉 The job description is eactly what I’m looking for with my combined graphic design and Wel development background so I hope I can impress them enough in a 1-hour max interview.

Weekend plans: Cleaning, grocery shopping, cooking. Friends are coming in tonight and spending the weekend.
What do you like most about January?: A new start, I guess. One day always turns into the next but there’s something that feels fresh and hopeful about the new year.
Haul: I squeezed in a couple of end-of-year purchases, before I embark on an extreme “low-buy”. So far, I’ve only received one order, which included Kevyn Aucoin The Celestial Bronzing Veil in Tropical Nights, The Neo-Limelight in Ibiza, The Neo-Setting Powder in Matte To Glow, and Too Faced Diamond Fire Highlighter. I saw I was just under $150 away from Rouge, and I wanted the KA products for awhile, so i was swayed; the TF highlighter was an impulse buy, but turned out to be one of my Top 3 purchases of 2017.
Plans: Nothing specific planned, except maybe a trip out to Walmart. My daughter has become obsessed with L.O.L. Surprise dolls, so we’re going to try and find some.

I have one “inspired” one to write about and the another 24 samples to work through. Brands range from Juliette Has a Gun to Atelier Cologne to Eight & Bob to Kate Spade to Diptyque and Comme de Garcons…plus a few more!
They sound heavenly – I really like niche perfumes.
I’ve found sound superb ones through the Indie and niche brands!
Kiss My Sass and Kitten Empire are both on my list of brands to try this year. I keep thinking I had a couple shadows from Kiss My Sass from a few years back, but I’m not sure.

Haul: One treat; Maybelline Molten Rose Gold Highlighter (OMG, how beautiful!). And a couple gaps filled thanks to Sephora’s Weekly Wow. UD Vice Glide-on lip pencils in Wonderland (because Catfight has needed something far less red, but not too pink), Cruz, and Wired. And an XL MUFE magnetized palette to re-home most of pans into.
Weekend plans: Just my usual. Hair definitely. Meeting…how am going to get up at 7 a.m.??? As for my nails, my recent months of neglect are showing. My right index fingernail has a crack into the quick. Now, I’ll have to repair it using nail glue and a patch made out of a piece of teabag. Fun. Not. ?
What do I love most about January?: Cool weather!!! I get to dress Jersey for awhile, with my black leather moto jacket, boots, sweaters. Enjoy hot cocoa and baking cakes. And, prayerfully, we will get a few nice rainstorms! ?
Ouch – that finger sounds a bit painful! You must love the cooler weather in AZ and the fun of wearing some winter clothes. Now that I have retired, getting up at 7 am is not something I do much anymore (in fact I used to be at work by 7 am!) and I understand your concern/anguish.

Yes, it has been, Genevieve and Rachel! It is going crossways across the pink part! I just doctored it up using nail glue, small pieces of a regular teabag and a pair of tweezers. Real fun, I tell ya! My nails on my right thumb, index and bird-flipper are all going fragile on me. Not sure why, since I take a very high potency biotin supplement, Vite. D and Glucosamine chondroitin? Just strange.
Haul: a large sized tube of Kiehl’s Hand Salve and a bottle of their Daily Reviving Concentrate (the daytime equivalent of the Midnight Rescue oil, which I’ve loved for years)
Weekend plans: hosting a bridal shower on Sunday (and still have a bit more shopping to do for that), hopefully the gym on Saturday morning though it’s so insanely cold that I don’t even want to leave the house
What do I like about January: My older son’s birthday and best friend’s birthday are both at the beginning of January but, to be honest, there isn’t much I really like about January….with the temperatures we’ve been having – -20C this morning, for example – there really isn’t much to be happy about!
I hope your bridal shower goes well – they’re always such happy events and the bride receives some really useful gifts. I don’t think I would feel like going to the gym in your weather. I find it hard to image -20, so stay warm. Happy birthday to your son.

What do I like about January: here in San Diego it’s not very cold and it’s usually sunny most days, so I enjoy being outside in cooler weather, great for hiking or running!
Haul: I haven’t purchased anything yet. Probably will be responsible and buy a paper shredder
Weekend plans: maybe go to a paper show. I hope to find some nifty things to add to my friend’s wedding guestbook I’m making.
What do you like most about January?: two of my favorite member’s birthdays are in this month and two Backstreet Boys were born in this month too…including my favorite one haha
HAUL: Nothing, I sent a whole box of gently used makeup to Project Beauty Share. The guilt of throwing stuff in the trash has led me to hoard a lot of stuff I don’t use (and then feel guilty and overwhelmed about not using it). It was really easy to level with myself about some things I’m holding on to just by saying “someone else will actually use and enjoy this.” I gave away a lot of great products that just don’t make it into my favorites. Tons of stuff! Can’t believe I had so much. Hopefully they will be loved by someone else. Not to sound self congratulatory, but it felt really good and I’m relieved. I still have a lot of makeup but now it all fits in a few drawers in a vanity, I can sit down and see everything at once, and I feel like I can actually rotate through it all and make progress on the stuff I love.
WEEKEND: Gonna be a lazy one with cats
JANUARY: Nothing???? I do get itching to toss stuff out after the influx of Christmas gifts. Early spring cleaning.

Well, the good news is that the blizzard was hype here on the hill, and the dpw did a great job, so can do both day and night job today. Unexpected, given all the excitement over the ‘bombogenesis.’ Compared to not being able to get out for ten days a few years ago, this was like balmy Hawaii. No orders this week, but some things haven’t arrived. No big surprise, with independent contractors and houses whose addresses don’t match the street they front on! Now, more of the deep freeze…
Haul – not sure what I ordered but there are some boxes to open . I’m pretty sure I ordered some of the stuff from the new “The Ordinary” line . So inexpensive so not much to lose . I’m sup’d to be on NO BUY …..
Weekend – hibernate as much as possible ! We are having record setting frigid weather all weekend . Don’t want to even go outside ! Christine, how cold is it there ? It’s my birthday Sun. so celebrating tonight with some fam and Sun. with other family . I had all three of my kids in August so we can have nice outdoor parties .
January – least favorite month . I’m an accounting type and Jan. is hell every year. A lot of pressure .

OMG Robin – I want to change places with you! I detest the hot weather and Saturday is going to be insanely hot. I just hope that the electricity grid handles all the a/c’s being on because the authorities keep threatening that their will be blackouts.

Haul: Chanel Verderame cream shadow, Mare-Chiaro and Nero Vulcanico Stylo Yeux eyeliners (gorgeous), and Rosa Tempera lip balm/powder duo; Vichy cleanser for sensitive skin (SDM: all 20% off + Bonus Points); Clarins Extra-Firming Eye Lift Perfecting Serum and Vichy cleanser (SDM Bonus Points).
Really liking the Chanel Verdeame eyeshadow and both eyeliners; the lip balm/powder is a fun though less practical item that seems to require near perfect lip condition (which I don’t have in this freezing cold weather). The powder in the kit makes for a nice blush shade and the balm a quick highlighter on the upper cheekbones.
Weekend Plans: This is my last weekend at home, so spending it with family and friends and enjoying milder weather.
Like about January: I am not a fan of the month of January though it does usher in increasing sunlight and, for that, I’m thankful!!
Hoping all in Atlantic Canada, the US Southeast and East Coast are safe and warm during this intense winter storm.
Haul: 6-piece mascara sampler from Macy’s… On sale for $10! It sold out so fast, glad I was able to pick it up. What do you like most about January?: All of the snow!
That was a fantastic mascara sampler from Macy’s you purchased – really good brands at such a low price. It will definitely cover you for mascaras for the year at least.

Haul: No makeup, just some shampoos on sale.
Weekend plans: It’s going to be searingly hot on Saturday here (43 deg celcius), so just a bit of shopping in the morning and sitting in front of the A/C in the afternoon reading.
Sunday – no plans as yet, but probably the family will come over for dinner and our grandchildren will come over for a play. We have a big paved courtyard where they can ride their bikes and Lachlan will be in his little police car.
What do I like about January – nothing much here as I detest the heat. I guess the only good thing is that the clothes get dry on the line really quickly and the summer sales are on.
We’ve been hearing here in Aus about your very cold winter storms, so I hope everyone is safe and warm.
Genevieve, I’d trade you some cold for some heat if I could. It was 13 below zero Fahrenheit this morning. If you factor in the wind chill it was 20 below. I think I’m over winter.
Shari – I was over summer by the end of November when we had a three week heat wave! I have never experienced 20 below, so it would be interesting. But I can tell you there is nothing great about 43 deg celcius! Far too hot for the beach, the hot sand would burn your feet and the local swimming pools would be crowded as.
I know what you mean. The extreme weather is no fun. My brother-in-law is currently in Perth on fire watch. Poor thing, goes from one extreme to another.
Perth is such a hot place – in terms of latitude, it is half way between Sydney and Brisbane – so it doesn’t even really get a winter, not like here in Melb.
Firefighters do an amazing job and they are the superheroes of the bush.
Ugh, I’ll take the cold over heat any time. Enjoy the grandkids this weekend!
Thanks Rachel – it was so hot that I put my lipsticks in the fridge to stop them melting. We only have a refrigerated a/c for our kitchen/meals and family room, as it is way too expensive to a/c the house. Is it very cold where you are living on the west coast?
It’s cold, but not nearly as cold as most of the U.S. right now. This week, it’s actually been pretty mild, with some rain. None of the freezing temps, snow, and ice that’s plaguing much of the country. I’m very thankful!
Haul: Tarte Timeless Smoothing Primer ($10 off anything coupon from Ulta) and DS it Superhero mascara (Ulta birthday gift). Also a bathroom scale as it is time to atone for my dietary sins.
Weekend plans: It is horribly cold here and I plan to stay in as much as possible but I will have to go out to buy groceries.
What do I like about January? Almost nothing but for the past few years we have managed to take a winter vacation in January so I look forward to that.

January : I like that it’s starting to get dark later. It’s nice to start seeing the light at the end of the tunnel!
Haul: Jack and do-do but I will probably pick up a few things from the Ordinary.
Weekend: Sister is massive sick, so not much more than the usual food shopping and a healthy dose of loafing. I’m fighting it off.
January: Feels like a fresh start but mostly I like all the sales on stuff! I don’t have the ability to make crazy purchases this year because of my home loan, can’t really spend any money until the ink is dry!
Haul: I am late to the haul party question this week. I have been fighting with my water leak again this winter and getting up every 2 hours to empty water buckets is a real pain. But there is hope. Anyway, haul? I am not sure if I purchased them this week or last but I think this week. I finally purchased two blushes, one quad eye shadow palette and one lip gloss from Jill Stuart spring release. They are being mailed from Japan via fudejapan IG. I also picked up one of the Dior quints from spring 2018 and a lipstick from the same collection. I haven’t received any of it yet.
Weekend plans: More bucket brigade until the leak slows down. I have a young man who is willing to get the ice off the roof and put heat tape up in all my valleys but I am about 7 houses down his list so hopefully sometime in the next couple of weeks. I was thinking I would have to wait until spring because getting up on a icy, snow covered roof isn’t for the faint of heart. I appreciate him being willing to try and fix it though.
What do I like best about January? Well, my birthday is in January, in fact it is Monday. I will be turning 64 so that is always nice. Despite the roof leak I do love the snow and the fresh, clean look it gives to the land. I take a lot of pictures and post them on my IG. I imagine my followers are tired of looking at them but it is beautiful.

How do you celebrate the new year?: We just stay home. We make a nice dinner, play Cards Against Humanity, and watch movies with the kids. At midnight, I get my first kiss of the year from my husband. We drink champagne and the kids get sparkling apple cider. This year, everybody was sick, so it was more laid back than that, and my older son stayed at his place.
OK, I don’t know why the last questions shows as “How do you celebrate the new year? for me, but it looks like everyone else seemed to get “What do you like most about January?” How very weird.
What do you like most about January? The holiday rush being over. Much as I love the holidays, they are exhausting. It’s nice to have things get back to normal. I also love Christmas clearance sales. 🙂
Rachel, I’m so sorry to hear that you and yours are all still feeling so lousy with whatever on Earth you caught. It really sucks when something decides to take up residence in our lungs or sinuses and not budge for nothing. Hoping it clears up really soon!
Thanks. Hubby and the kids got it after me, and haven’t had the symptoms so bad. I have less than half the antibodies against these types of viruses than I should, and that’s after doctors tried to re-colonize them with a pneumonia shot. I only had THREE of the antibodies before that. These types of viruses just linger on me. I’m just happy I seem to have avoided a sinus, ear, or bronchitis infection.

Thanks! I usually am not into contour palettes, but that one got such raves, and can be used on the eyes and there are blush shades. Plus…that packaging! I’m really liking it so far. I was thrilled to grab one while they were on sale so cheap.
Now I have FOMO….LOL! I’ll have to watch out for the next sale. Thanks for your thoughts on the palette!
