- Haul: Jouer summer collection, Drunk Elephant trial-size duos, Glamglow Flashmud, Sol de Janeiro Body Boom Set
- Weekend plans: Possibly go grocery shopping, and if we do, then I want to stop by the Container Store to pickup more storage bins (for the garage, not for makeup for once!).
- How do you like to start your mornings?: I like waking up without an alarm clock, and then lazing in bed for about ten minutes checking my email, social media, etc., followed by cuddle time with husband and then Mellan. I then get ready for my day and have my first latte. I look forward to that latte, haha!

Haul: I have been thrift shopping a lot lately. I have been picking up so many Golden Books for my art journal, got an amazing deal on a little spice (container) village. And I’ll probably pick up the ColourPop bundle today
Weekend plans: Hopefully seeing the guy and lots of family plans.
How do you like to start your mornings?: If I’m at home then it’s coffee, breakfast, youtube, and breakfast time. If I’m not at home: a quick cuddle then I go home and proceed with my usual routine.
I realized that I haven’t answered what I was crafting: I’ve been making so many books. I have two or three in the process at the moment.
That’s very cool, Monica! What are some of your thrift shopping tips?
Go in without any expectations. If anything catches your eye, you should get it! You never know if it’s going to be a hidden treasure. Recently I heard that a woman bought a piece of costume jewelry for $15, and a friend urged her to get it assessed. It turns out the necklace was worth around $400,000!
Wow! Lucky find 😉
I love thrift, flea market, auction and consignment shopping. It’s usually (nearly) guilt free and often there are special finds. When I first moved to the city I live in now, early on cruising these shops gave me a sense of the place, people and geography. I also like to check them out when I travel too.
Mellan loving food is my love language. You should publish a coffee table book all about it!
Haul: So shopping in DE last week was a huge bust. Nothing was quite what I thought it would be (e.g., Sephora blush palette, Becca Chrissy palette). I also didn’t really have time but I was able to grab a Milani Romantic Rose blush.
Weekend plans: Last weekend before my husband leaves for the police academy so hopefully an AirBnB one night. Otherwise just relaxing 🙂
How do you like to start your mornings?: Read the day’s devotional on my First5 app (or Spurgeon’s Morning & Evening on the weekends). List 3 things I’m grateful for on my Notes app (learned this from Rachel Cruze). Linger in bed scrolling through Instagram & Twitter. Tell my doggo he’s the goodest boy in the whole world, feed him, take him outside. Make coffee, brush teeth, get dressed 🙂
Haha!
Bummer to hear that the shopping did not go as well as you had hoped, Joyce! Best wishes to your husband in police academy!!
Best wishes to you and your husband Joyce. Giving thanks is a great way to start the day.
Haul:

Loved the way the special collab shades looked. I had planned on trying the Ouai Rose Oil anyway. JINSoon is one of my fav brands of polish. And I’ve tried the Aerin before and it’s very good. For the price, I felt like it was a steal since I already know I’m going to use most if not everything in the box.
Gallagher Fragrances: 2.5 ml Core Series Discovery Set
Gerard (35% off): Metal-Matte Liquid Lipstick (It’s Complicated), Satin Lipstick (Between the Sheets), Supreme Lip Crème (Wildberry Tarte – on clearance)

Zoya (3 for $20): Summer Collection – Sonja, Esty, Winnie, Cora, Journey, Lois
Weekend plans: No idea since it’s supposed to rain the entire weekend.
How do you like to start your mornings?: I usually get up at about 3 am. I feed my cats and sit and drink coffee and watch the news for a while. Then I go shower and get dressed. After, I check my email and post my swatches for the day across my social media.
Lots of stuff this week, Michele! Have you found any new scents you love?
Stay dry!
Too many scents to love unfortunately. I’ve tried 4 of the Gallagher ones so far and they’ve all been good. I guess you can tell my fragrance collection is growing about as quickly as my makeup one!
Thanks 🙂 Hoping to find something to do between the raindrops….
I am a perfume collector as well. It’s lovely to be able to choose the scent of the day….
I meant to reply sooner…if you’re interested in joining a perfume group on Facebook, feel free to pm me. I’m a member of a couple. 2 are really good. FB says my profile is at: facebook.com/binx.cat.100 And right now my profile pic is from Ab Fab with my cover as a cat meme….
HAUL: Batiste Dry Shampoo. Works just as well as any high end dry shampoo I’ve tried and i love the smell (I use the Bare scent). If I spray it, leave it for a few minutes while I do other things, then brush it out with a boar brush there are no white/gray streaks.
WEEKEND: Cabin on the lake “camping.”
I like to start my mornings by sleeping as much as possible followed by some damn fine black coffee.
I love Batiste! I prefer the scent of Elizabeth & James but find Batiste very effective.
Oh – hope you enjoy your cabin trip!
Mellan thinking — please let me in because I might want to go out again. 🙂
Haul:
No makeup, but two new skincare products by Sente. My local med spa had a free treatment with Sente products and an enzyme mask. I’m getting better about focusing on skin care with real science behind it, and this looks promising. So I am going to change my regimen to add the Sente Dermal Repair Cream and their night serum to take the place of a few other products I’m just about out of. I have been using the Sente neck cream for the past few months, and I have liked it very much. A few weeks will tell what I think about the switch.
One thing I realized is that I have not had a facial in 30 years! I do other treatments, but I’ve never gotten into that. Might be time to have a treatment every few months. After those enzymes, I have to say my skin looks bright and clear.
Weekend plans:
Going on vacation in two weeks, so this weekend will be the usual — swim, pups, cleaning up. Hopefully dinner with friends tonight.
How do you like to start your mornings?:
For at least three decades I have started my day with fitness. I get up M-F at about 5-ish, and start the day with either a run with the pups, a swim, or a bike ride on the trainer or outside when it’s nice. Some days I do strength work, some days it’s just a walk. I’ll take one day on the weekend off completely, except walking the dogs, and get up a bit later on the other weekend day to swim, bike or run. I love it. It makes me feel whole to start my day in this way.
Fingers crossed that your new Sente products work out very well, Linda!
Keep us posted on the new skincare!
Linda, you are an inspiration to us all with your fitness regime.
I hope the Sente products work out for you.
Haul: I didn’t get a chance to post last Friday (work is always so busy!). I was so excited to let everyone know my children and husband got me the Chanel items I was wishing for from the Energies et Puretes de Chanel spring 2017 collection. For Mother’s Day I received the Jardin de Lumieres and Jardins Eclatants eyeshadow quads, and the lipstick in Ardente. I love this collection! My favorite is the Jardins Eclatants eyeshadow quad. I like it better than Tom Ford’s Nude Dip. The colors work better for me than the Tom Ford colors, maybe because of my warm complexion. Also, reporting back that I LOVE the NARS Charolotte Gainsbourg eyeshadow duos in Old Church Street and Rue Allent. The darker colors in these duos play very well with Chanel’s Jardins de Lumieres (I like to put darker colors from the NARS Duo’s over outer half of lid, and layer on the steel-silver or green-silver from Lumieres over entire lid.)
When I went to find a dress for my daughter’s wedding in Chicago two weeks ago, I stopped in a Sephora store and spent over two hours playing with make up. I found so many great products! I must have had $400 worth of cosmetics picked out, but of course took home much less than I wanted. I picked up two Dior Addict Lacquer Sticks in Sulfurous and Sassy (best lipstick formula I’ve ever tried, the Marc Jacob’s Re(cover) Perfecting Coconut Setting Mist (been using it everyday for past two weeks to set my make up and I love it), Anastasia Brow Powder Duo in Dark Brown, and the Sephora Pro #20 eyebrow brush. I’ve had the Anastasia Powder before, this is my second purchase, so that tells you how much I like it. I’ve been using the eyebrow brush everyday for past two weeks and I think it’s great.
The BIGGEST SURPRISE during my Sephora excursion was finding the Marc Jacob’s limited edition O!Mega Bronzer in Tan-Tastic. I spent a lot of time going through the Marc Jacobs products and noticed the bronzer several times before really looking at it. I had tried to buy the bronzer after it was initially released and couldn’t find it anywhere, so I figured the one in the store was something else. When I asked the saleslady about it, she told me it WAS the one that sold out online! She said she had women driving hundreds of miles to pick up this particular bronzer and this was the last one in the store. Of course I bought it and I’ve been wearing it everyday for two weeks. It beats out my Guerlain and my Tom Ford bronzers. It is just the right shade for my skintone, and no matter what foundation I’m wearing, this bronzer makes all my foundations look better.
Weekend: I’m on vacation starting this afternoon! I have a whole week off work. Saturday we’re having a pizza party for Natalie, my 11-year-old grand daughter, to celebrate her getting straight A’s for the entire year. Hubby and I are hoping to spend a night or two at a hotel to catch up on couple-time. We hope to declutter our home and pick out new flooring.
Morning: I never use an alarm clock, I’ve woken up my whole life before the sun comes up. I do my arm exercises first thing in the morning (I’m in physical therapy for chronic tendinitis in my right elbow), followed by shower. Then the best part of the morning happens: My husband brings me a fresh cup of coffee, I turn on XM radio, and I indulge myself in my morning routine of applying my make up!
Sounds like you had a really great Mother’s Day! So glad you’re enjoying a lot of the new products you purchased. I can’t get the hang of the Marc Jacobs setting mist – it is so gloppy and sprays so inconsistently for me 🙁 Any tips?
Enjoy your vacation!
Oh no, Christine, mine isn’t gloppy, you might have a bad nozzle. With setting sprays I always spray the first spray away from me, wasteful I know, but I find this helps to prevent the larger particles that come out most nozzles after a product has been sitting overnight and has a chance to coagulate.
I have two, and they are equally bad 🙁
Thank you for the tips!
Wow you found some great things to pick up! Enjoy your vacay!
I’ve spent many nice hours (and more than a dollar or two) in the Chicago Sephora on Michigan. Huge store, very fun.
Oooh, love finding an OOS item in store, and if it’s the last one, it’s meant to be yours! And such great hauls esp. those Mother’s Day gifts!
I know, Katherine, I felt that way about the bronzer, it was meant to be mine?
And yes, my family took VERY GOOD care of me on Mother’s Day. I am fortunate to have all of them for so many reasons, and it makes me feel loved when they get me exactly what I was wishing for.
Did you find a dress to wear to the wedding Tammy?
I am having a belated Mother’s Day lunch tomorrow and I think a voucher for Sephora is in the wings. I am pleased that you loved your presents so much.
Genevieve, I shopped for 12 hours over the span of two days in two of the best malls in the Chicago suburbs (Woodfield and Oakbrook) and barely found anything worth trying on. I found a soft apricot maxi dress with crochet lace details that was acceptable and so I bought it to ease my anxiety about not having a dress to wear. My daughter, husband and son LOVE it. I wore it out last weekend to buy shoes and had five different women stop me to compliment me on my dress. I still wish I could find something I love, but what’s most important is that my daughter thinks it’s perfect. I knew I would have trouble liking the softer colors so I’m going to have to trust others on this decision.
I know how hard it is to find that perfect outfit. My sister recently spent hours with her best friend trying to find an outfit for her son’s wedding. At our age you know what suits you best and it is difficult to find.
Apricot is beautiful shade and I think it would suit you with your colouring. And if it didn’t look OK your family would tell you… So it must be lovely.
And Genevieve, I hope you enjoy your Mother’s Day luncheon and can’t wait to hear what you pick out with your voucher!
We had a lovely Mother’s Day luncheon and there were absolutely no leftovers, with my layered roast vegetable bake (several vegetables individually roasted and then layered like a lasagne) being the big hit.
I am looking forward to going to Sephora’s in the next week or two to use my voucher. I just hope I find something I really love.
You’re killing me with the bronzer! 🙂 Wonderful stuff! From granddaughter to wedding to couple time to that bronzer again! Happy for you.
How are you liking Sulfurous and Sassy? I was stopped numerous times the other day wearing Sulfurous, so I picked up Sassy too but haven’t given it a test run yet!
Those lipsticks are two of the best I’ve ever purchased and considering I purchase anywhere from 2-6 lipsticks per month, that’s saying something!
Haul: I ended up hauling a couple of the Milani Strobelight powders, and also the KVD shade + light quad in Sage. I was debating over whether to get the Juvia’s Place blush palettes, but the decision seems to have been made for me because they’re sold out!
Weekend plans: Lots of yardwork! We’re thinking of getting some new plants but I’m worried because we have a new pupper and I don’t want her to chew on anything and get sick.
How do you like to start your mornings?: Usually coffee, take pupper for a walk, feed her, work out, then finally breakfast and some cuddle time!
I hope you love the new Milani powders, Aditi! 🙂
Good idea to research plants to avoid anything poisonous for the new dog!
Aditi, I think Juvia’s Place was going to be restocking the blush. I know they added more inventory for their pre-sale of the new Magic palette (which I pre-ordered today after I posted my haul).
Haul: Natasha Denona Sunset eye shadow palette, Chanel Ombre Premiere Longwear Powder Eyeshadow’s in 30 Vibrant Violet 36 Desert Rouge & Chanels ombre premiere cream shadow in 806 Terre Brulee. I tried them on in the store and the powder eye shadow 30 & 36 look very pretty (separately) when layered over the cream shadow 806. Also, they all look pretty worn alone. I also liked but haven’t purchased yet powder shadow 34 Poudre D’or. These powder and cream shadows are very pretty & dramatic layered over each other & some of them on their own look very ordinary. I picked up a couple of cute tops at Anthropologie and a very unique kimono that was on sale.
Weekend Plans: Enjoy my husband he is off Sat. Sun & Mon. so it will be fun.
How do I like to start my mornings: Everyday is different sometimes I just get up and start with I call chores and sometimes I just like to stay in bed a little later. But it always starts before I even get out of bed with my husband kissing me good morning & me wishing him a happy day & please drive safe before he leaves for work.
Lots of new, warm shades there, Maria!
Happy weekend!

Just waiting for my ride up. 😉
How do you like to start your mornings?: Alarm clock because I will sleep in. get ready quickly and out the door.
Enjoy your time at Anime North! 🙂
Haul: A new Multiple in Jo and the Hyaluronic Glow Tint for NARS. Got a few other goodies from Farmacy and my Sephora Play box. Oh and Fresh minis.
Weekend Plans: Not sure, problems with my sis might preclude anything and I have to work on the holiday 🙁
Mornings: No alarm, lazy time with pets, hubbies, coffee/teas, and blogs or books
How exciting, Erin! Hope you are enjoying your new finds.
I hope your sister turns out to be OK Erin. That’s my idea of lovely morning too.
Haul: another no-buy week
Weekend: heading to the Cape for weekend, our first trip with the baby. She’s going to meet the rest of my family!
Morning: family snuggles with hubby, baby, and dog. I can usually get an hour of quiet time to read the news while I nurse baby back to sleep.
Aww, have fun on your trip! 😀
Your baby sounds like a cutie – they love spending time with dad and mum in bed in the morning, especially if you can nurse her back to sleep for awhile.
He knows!!! Food always takes precedence over whatever is going on out there! LOL!
Haul: MAC Fruity Juicy eyeshadow palette in Oh My Banana! Been having a great time using this one. Had also ordered the Coconut Fix+ from Belk late last Friday, thought all was good, they had even sent me an order confirmation number email….5 DAYS later I received another email from them cancelling my order because they were OOS! Crazy since it was in stock when I ordered it! ?
Yesterday, I picked up my HG Nail-Aid 1 Minute Gel Coat, plus another Sinful Gel-Tech np in Cranberry Craze, a berry-fuschia with a blurple shift.
Weekend plans: You know the drill, hair, nails (?), meeting on Sunday. Might head over to SFS for a Jamba Juice later today and just browse through Sephora and a few other stores.
How do you like to start your mornings? Slowly! I probably hit my snooze button several times per morning, but it sure would feel great to bounce out of bed bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. After getting myself situated and feeding my 2 loyal felines, I sit down with a large mug of Joe, check emails, FB, then hop onto here! ⌚?☕?
Such a bummer you weren’t able to get your Coconut Fix+ order, Nancy! 🙁
Yeah, I was pretty upset, mainly because 5 days later they tell me?!? That was the crazy part! Especially since they DID send me an order conf. number…?
Don’t think I have the energy to hunt one down around the Valley, either.
How are your shingles going Nancy? Hopefully you are over the worst of it.
Bad luck about your order, no wonder customers lose faith in online retailers.
Much better, Genevieve! There are still darkened reddish areas, slight tenderness, but only one actual scar, thank goodness. Thank you so much for asking!
As for that whole Fix+ issue, I will probably stick to the more well-known retailer sites from here on out.
Nancy, good to know about Belk, was curious how their service was. Another reader and I have had the same experience with Saks –order some item, get confirmation#, then 5 days later, find out the order has been cancelled because OOS. And if it’s a very popular LE item, by the time you find out, it’s too late, will be OOS everywhere, only available on evilbay. I think their inventory tracking system is glitchy, as they can’t tell what’s in stock or not. Now I refuse to order any hot LE item from them
Haul: I think the only thing I bought this week is Bobbi Brown’s Maui Illuminating Bronzer and that is entirely Christine’s fault!
Weekend plans: the gym and maybe hot yoga tonight. I’d like to shop for some fabric too to make a few items for summer wear but I don’t know if I’ll get to the “sewing street” in my city (and since my absolutely favourite fabric store closed down – long time family business and the 2nd generation wanted to retire – there’s less urge to go).
How do I start my mornings: My husband always has the coffee brewing and I enjoy a cup or two while checking out my favourite internet sites. Then it’s breakfast, the crossword and sudokus from the daily paper stuffed into my school bag and off to get ready for work.
It must have been a hard decision to close the store for the whole family!
I love sudoku!
I HATE sudoku but it’s supposed to be good for staving off Alzheimer’s! But I love crosswords!
The fabric store was so lovely…they had the most gorgeous silks that looked straight out of Downton Abbey, and the most wonderful woolens – Armani woolens and others. Their wedding and evening fabrics were out of this world – stuff I wouldn’t have the confidence to sew with but loved looking at. The wife was so lovely and stylish and warm – just so gracious. But their grown kids had no interest in the business and so they slowly wound it down. But they were such nice people and had the most amazing fabrics.
LOL! I love the idea of crosswords but my knowledge is nowhere near vast enough to do serious ones!
Here’s hoping you can find another place that brings the same type of fabrics to the world – it sounds like it was a lovely, unique store.
– Haul: Zoeva eyeshadow blender brush #225; Bioderma ‘gel moussant’ (cleansing gel for sensitive skin, haven’t tried it yet); Bioderma ‘micelle solution’ toner (made my skin break out basically immediately, so I pitched it; fortunately it was a GWP).
– Weekend plans: Just back from 9-day business trip through two cities in Europe, so unpacking, laundry, errands, readjusting to this time zone. Lots of smoothies, salads, other healthy foods because these items were hard to come by on the trip.
Favorite morning start: Since my workdays start early, those days I’m just happy to get through quick coffee and breakfast and make it to the office on time. So, Saturdays and Sundays: start with a coffee on my back deck, just chilling.
How do you incorporate new skincare products into your routine, AB, so you know which one causes mayhem?
I incorporate each one at a time, perhaps about 1-2 weeks apart. In this case, it was the only new product I tried In a couple of weeks, and after two days running of unusual breakouts, there was no question it was the culprit.
Makes sense! I try to do the same – only add something new every two weeks or so. The only time I break that is if it was a cleanser or if I just hated the product I added (usually the smell is too much for me to handle).
Haul: nothing makeup related! I did just order two skincare item from Absolution today. The Rejoice cream (the one I have is too rich with the sudden heat) and a back up of their Aura masker. This is so good, in 3 weeks it reach the HG statu.
Weekend : nothing much except the usual. Let’s enjoy the small things, and continue to watch movies from IMDB’s top 250 ?.
How do you like to start your mornings? Hmm… I like waking up feeling fresh and not have to rush. I wish I had a table on my balcony to take my breakfast in the sun in the morning! That is maybe something we should take care of this weekend ?
What has been your favorite movie so far that you’ve watched from the top 250? My brother-in-law is watching 100 movies from a list as well (I don’t recall the list, unfortunately!).
Oh, that’s a though one! Alone in the first 30 they are numerous films which made a huge impression on me. One I saw multiple times but not recently is “Leon” (27). I know it by heart but always end up crying when I watch it lol!
Aww! Thank you for the rec!
Haul: Just got my box from Sephora I brought Natasha Denona Sunset palette, Pretty Vulgar blush in Mirror Mirror, Jouer Skinny Dip bundle, KVD A Go Go liquid lipstick-love
Weekend Plans: Catch a few sales for home goods need some new sheets
How do you like to start your mornings? : I’m a night owl so mornings aren’t my thing, lol. I love coffee to help me wake up.
Great Sephora haul, Denise! Hope you love the Sunset palette.
That is a perfect haul. I would love to have all those items!
Oooh nice haul!
Haul: Boscia Gel/Cream moisturizer, Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Mood Exposure, Chanel Les 4 Ombres Eyeshadow quads in 232 Tisse Ventien and 244 Tisse Jazz, Chanel Blue Serum, Chanel Rouge Allure Ink in 150 Luxuriant, Chanel Le Volume de Chanel Mascara in Noir and Base de Cils. For my daughter I picked up the Giorgio Armani Power Fabric Foundation and the Mattifying Primer. She purchased for me the MAC scent that is based on Ruby Woo but I can’t remember the name of the scent.
Weekend Plans: We are in California for a week so we are seeing a lot of old friends and eating at a lot of restaurants that we have been missing.
Morning Routine: Sleep as late as possible!! I worked night shift for 25 years, meaning graveyards. I am not a morning person after that!
It’s no surprise that 25 years of night shift would really alter your sleeping patterns!
Enjoy California — I think you’re in the perfect time for great weather 🙂
Haul: Nada!
Weekend plans: Avoid the heat
How do you like to start your mornings?: These days with the illness “morning” is more like 2 pm because of the constant fatigue and then it’s dragging myself like molasses out of bed while all the aches and pains settle a bit for like an hour. If I can keep my eyes open I usually check a few things like email, bloglovin, instagram, etc during that time.
I hope you find a way to get a little relief, Anne, from your aches and pains!
Oh no, hope you feel better soon, Anne
Haul: a few things from Lancome at their Friends & Family sale: the new Juicy Shakers in the white and black shades, their summer LE liquid eyeshadow in the gold shade (loved the bronze I bought a few weeks ago) and their summer LE blush/bronzer palette in the light shade. Also a handbag from Kate Spade at the Nordstrom sale (I generally think that Kate Spade is overpriced so at 50% off the price tag was more in my comfort zone!).
Weekend plans: nothing special for this long weekend! I have a spinning class scheduled, other than that maybe a hike, some rest, and walk around the neighborhood.
Morning: I’m so NOT a morning person, so the way I like it is to just get up when I wake up naturally without an alarm clock (which can be as late as 10am, or even later if I stayed up late the night before), make some tea and check my emails/social media for a while on the couch with my hubby and cat, then have brunch. Unfortunately that’s not at all what weekday mornings look like, lol!
How are you using the liquid eyeshadows, Lulle? I was curious about them but that type of formula can be so hit or miss…
Kate Spade makes some cute stuff – a perk, though, is with all the items the brand releases each season, a lot of it ends up on sale as long as you can stand to wait a bit! What style was it?
I just use this eyeshadow as an all over lid color. They’re metallic but not OOT, very pigmented and they’re so easy to blend yet don’t budge all day. At least the one I have in Bronze Rivage is like that, hopefully the gold one has the same amazing formula! I’m curious about the blue too – liquid shadows in neutral shades are easier to make than bolds in my experience – but it’s not a shade I’d particularly want to wear.
The handbag I bought is very classic: a black cross body bag, hopefully the messenger shape keeps it from being too old-fashioned (it looked nice in the photos). But I really needed a black bag, as I tend to collect them in crazy colors (I have several oranges, red, fierce coral, jade green…) and sometimes a classic black is sorely lacking from my collection. I also wanted a good quality bag that I could keep for a while, so it was the perfect opportunity!
Perfect, Lulle! Thank you for sharing the info on Lancome’s eyeshadows.
It sounds like a great bag that you picked up! I actually have felt like a classic black bag is what is missing in my arsenal as well!
What a lovely doggie, sitting and waiting patiently for his dinner!
Haul: nothing much this week.
Weekend plans: Having a belated Mother’s Day lunch on Sunday with the family and no doubt cleaning and preparing on Saturday.
Morning starts: Now that I have retired, I just LOVE my morning starts – no more getting up at 6 am regardless of the weather. I also like to wake without an alarm and make myself a cup of tea and spend a half an hour to relax and read my book. Afterwards I get dressed, don my makeup and go and collect a cappuccino from our nearby coffee shop. It’s while I am sipping my coffee that I read and respond to you Christine at Temptalia. It is my favourite time of the day.
Enjoy your Mother’s Day lunch, Genevieve! 🙂
Aww <3 <3 Thank you for always taking the time to comment!
My pleasure Christine – thank you so much for the hard work you do for this blog!
He looks so earnest and focused! Hi Mellan!
Haul:
MAC
Nanonude (Goodbye, 40% off) mineralize quad
My order for Love In the Glades, Oh My Banana, Fruit a La La palettes, Si, Si Me! lipstick, Oh My Passion Pearlmatte and Fix+ came in!
Mehr lipstick (back2MAC)
Un-haul:
Sent 3 medium flat rate boxes to Project Beauty Share – thank you for the heads up on this, Christine! I now have a box set out so I can put products in there and when it’s full, ship it off and set another box out. I don’t know how fast it’s going to fill up, but I like having a place to set them so I’m not cluttering up my displays. It’s nice not having to pilfer through your so-so-to-you products, and it feels good to send them off to a better home. I also like that it showed me what brand(s) I don’t have the best luck with – sadly, a lot of my Rouge Bunny Rouge products. I have realized that I like their eyeshadows, but I pretty much sent off everything else I had (eyeliners, liquid eyeshadows, face powders). I do like their packaging, though.
Weekend plans: Facial and manicure tomorrow, brunch on Sunday and other than that, laying low.
How do you like to start your mornings?: I like getting up before everyone else and having a quiet cup of tea. I’d love it to be coffee but my stomach ends up cramping mid-morning. I make breakfast and head back up to shower and get ready for the day. I love taking my time putting on my makeup and make sure I’ve set aside plenty of time. On the weekends, I’ll make a pot of tea and make a big breakfast and eventually get around to showering and putting on my face (unless I’m masking) around noonish.
Do you take your tea with anything or just straight tea? I grew up with just tea so adding stuff to it feels foreign to me, but give me a latte any day of the week. I’d actually love to switch to tea (since I can drink it plain), but I can’t make it happen as I miss the body of a good latte, lol.
For my tea at home, it’s gone from sugar to stevia (the actual leaf, ground so it’s green and inert, meaning it doesn’t dissolve) to xylitol (from a birch tree, not corn). I like the xylitol and have stuck with that because it gives it only a touch of sweetness with zero aftertaste. If I’m having a tea service somewhere (and depending on the tea), I may add cream and my own sweetener (I’m ‘that’ customer that brings my own tub of xylitol). Any suggestions for an online retailer for tea? Right now I’m ordering from English Tea Store, Republic of Tea and/or Art of Tea online. Teavana teas are fine but their in-store customer service makes me angry and not want to give the company any money.
I hear you about the latte – I miss my coffees. I loved au laits or lattes, no sweetener, just the coffee/espresso with the milk to round out the depth of dark roasts. Every once in a while I’ll sneak some sips of coffee (we make “butter” coffee at home, now) but anymore than that and I’ve got a nervous stomach for about 4 hours.
Christine, I was a hardcore coffee drinker for 25 years, 3 big strong cups a day, but my stomach got too sensitive to a number of things, and one was very sadly, coffee. So I had no choice, about 5 years ago, I switched cold turkey to tea. I still miss the smell, taste, and caffeine kick of coffee, but after 6 months, I noticed that my skin looked so much better (clearer, firmer, softer, brighter). I think the antioxidants in tea really help, and I’m turning 48 this year. I usually go for the organic ones, the Target brand of Simply Balanced organic teas is good, but I also go for whatever’s on sale.
Haul: : MAC Love in the Glades x 6 Eye Shadow, MAC Heroine lipstick, a MAC Extra Dimension Eye Shadow single in Rich Core, and Haute and Nauty Mascara in black. While at Macy’s I also picked up Too Faced Melted Strawberry, one of my favorite liquid lipsticks. I actually used one up! Sephora: KVD Everlasting Liquid Lipstick on Malice. Last week I got one thing- the Kat Von D Ladybird palette. It’s so pretty for smoky looks; I love this palette. It needs to be made permanent! Bad purchase of the week: three I
City Mini palettes. Chill Brunch Neutrals, Downtown Sunrise, and the green one ( don’t know the name). Poor pigmentation. Weekend plans: one of my older nephews graduates from highschool tomorrow, so I’m going to that, and then in the evening I’m going to babysit my littlest nephews. How do I like to start my mornings? By going home from work, lol! Seriously, I work three 12 hr night shifts per week and when 7:15 rolls around I’m ready to go home. I have my days and I nights mixed up though, even though I’ve worked this shift for years. Sometimes I keep daytime hours when I’m off, and other times I sleep in the mornings ir sll day. It varies a lot.
I recall Ladybird as permanent but then discontinued? I could be wrong as it was awhile ago, I think, that it originally launched!
It’s on her site right now with the regular stuff; I wonder if this means it’s permanent again?? I hope so!
From what I have seen, KVD stocks discontinued items that still have stock but have not heard that any are returning!
In that case I might actually get a backup while I still have a chance. I don’t have backups of any other palettes, but this one has my heart right now!!
Ugh, I gave up on Maybelline shadows a long time ago, was hoping they would improve, but doesn’t sounds like it at all. It always puzzles me that these ginormous billion dollar DS brands ( Maybelline, Revlon) are still struggling to come out with great shadows, when the smaller independent and ME brands have been doing so successfully for years.
I was really aggravated with myself over those Maybelline shadows; I mean zero pigmentation, and that was with primer and Fix +. I won’t be tempted again! One of those shades was a pretty coral; it could have been really nice if a different company had it..
Lemme in, lemme in, I know you got my din-din there!
*Haul – MAC Fruity Juicy –Oh My Passion face powder (have been waiting months to get my hands on this, so stunning to look at in pan), Si Si Lipstick (pretty color), Coconut Fix Spray, and Love In the Glades shadow palette (I blame Michele for talking me into this, love the unique colors). Have only swatched on my arms, but the swatches look promising. This is a fun collection!
*Weekend – Brunch at local diner, maybe a mushroom festival (first time ever), and lunch with 2 college friends one of whom I haven’t seen in 25 years.
*Morning routine –ugh, hate mornings. For weekdays, drag myself out of bed, shower, read Temptalia, and get ready for work. For weekends, sleep in late, fix myself breakfast, sip hot tea and catch up on blogs/emails.
Mushroom festival! That sounds fun 🙂 I assume mushroom everything is the theme, lol!
Mellan looking in from the outside? He just wants his dinner. Poor guy (but very cute).
Haul: The Tom Ford Sheer Highlighting Duo ordered from NM finally arrived. It’s a beautiful compact & the rose shade is stunning. I followed tracking via NM’s tracking page where they also inquire about your shipping experience. The arrival date kept creeping one day at a time and was delivered 4 days later than first estimated. I provided feedback about FedEx’s delay (and fast shipping being a competitive advantage) and received an e-mail back from NM indicating that they were refunding 15% of my purchase price for the inconvenience. I was blown away! Combined with a 15% eBates rebate, I’m really pleased about this purchase!!
Weekend plans: Pulling out the summer clothes and packing up heavier clothing, lunch with a friend, and beating my spouse at backgammon. 🙂
How do you like to start your mornings? Slowly and quietly. I have no natural inclination to get up in the morning, so I rely on a very loud alarm clock or my spouse waking me up (as he gets up earlier, which I don’t hear at all). A typical morning starts with a hot cup of coffee and a feline in desperate need of some pats. I’ll then catch up on e-mail & social media or watch some CBS Morning News for the headlines. On the weekends, mornings are pretty quiet in my house until at least the second cup of coffee.
What a great customer service story from NM! That is awesome 😀
LOL Mellan has a one-track mind!
Haul: From Ulta, I had lots of bonus points offers so I picked up some more Living Proof dry shampoo (one of my favorites), an OPI Infinite Shine polish in Bubble Bath, the new Tarte self-tanner, and a couple sheet masks from TonyMoly. I also got the 24-piece sample bag thrown in, and a Tarte matte primer sample.
Weekend plans: It’s my birthday weekend, so I have a couple dinners planned and I’m going out to the casino with my girlfriends tonight.
How do you like to start your mornings: I don’t! I am not a morning person and I have to wake up around 4:45 AM for work most mornings. If it’s the weekend, I’ll lounge in bed for hours with my laptop, sipping coffee.
He really does, haha!
24-piece sample bag — whew! How do you decide what samples to try?
Happy birthday, Dianne!!
Happy Birthday, Dianne! Sounds like a fun night out with the girls
Happy Birthday, Dianne!
Went a bit overboard this week. Purchased four of the new Dior eyeshadow palettes, Expose, Embrace, (which is a matte), Feel and Enflame. Dior Star concealer in #1 and the Dior Lip Tattoo in Cherry, which I’am returning, it went really dark on me. Memorial Day with family and friends.
Wow! Someone is a fan of the new Dior palettes 🙂
Forgot to add, I too wake up without alarm. Hubby and I are early risers, 6 or so. Have coffee out on patio and unsweetened yogurt with some fresh fruit. Final thought….everyone have a happy and safe Memorial Day???
Haul: Do love the Glades palette. It does a fine neutral eye as well as the color, plus is coolish. S, did an order and forgot the lobster soft train case. I mean, lobsters! Bring it. So I went in to big S, which isn’t my fave. Also got an erase paste, which is being d/c’d, last one, 1/2 off. It was the first corrector I used. Ulta: couple of matrix shampoos, succumbed to POC palette, which is not as inchoate as I thought. Even like the golds, which are pretty toned down. The whole palette is on the muted side. Since I only really liked the namesake blush, and am not a highlighter queen, I forwent that palette…and used the dupes to put EL alluring rose on my next Ulta order! Yay, dupes. Some Fiona Stiles that seems to be d/cing. L/s in Neptune, Wythe, and not so sure about Lenox, LL cream for color. But the formula is lovely. Some concealer presents. The Julep turmeric cushion complexion. Feels like skincare; very Kor/Am in that way. The color is warmer than I am, but isn’t too yellow. Must have enough red balance or something. Think it will be usable for summer tone skin, too. No suspects in it, either. It does look a little perfected or makeupy. Not as much like skin as kgdor
Jouer. Goes well with the warmer end of my color stash. Pending: yet more Ulta, Sephora, and CP. W/E: enjoying this Sat off, mostly cleaning. Fri, Sun, Mon working night job. (Gee, Genevieve, being retired stateside means having two jobs, if you are fortunate enough to have them!) Mon day job gets postponed to later in the week, so it’s half a day off. Reading. Longer walks. No beach yet, I’m no die hard. AM: only alarm once a week, bec have to be to day job early at one setting. The other two, not. If I don’t have day job, long walk with the dogs. Shorter walk, if working days. Patti has learned so much since I got her. To think I had to carry her, all 17″ topline and all, for close to a month! Now, she is learning no lawns, no gardens. She learned to stand up to things, and her excessive length means lots of accessibility, so watch out, stash! She’s like a puppy..snatches stuff and runs around with it. I am a total convert to adopting puppy mill mothers. They deserve real dog life for their post-career. That’s the good language for the poor old gals who were kept in a crate and bred incessantly for half their lives. Lots of black dark roast coffee. The only thing I do weird, is that on days with 2 jobs, I eat dinner in the morning, a whole big meal, and have a lunchy type thing late afternoon. Those days are longer than 10 hours, and eating at work doesn’t work.
I’m glad you’ve figured out a way to get at least two meals in during your longer days, but wow, what an adjustment that must have been!
Patti sounds like she is truly thriving in your excellent care, KJH! She is so lucky to have found such a great match.
How sweet is Mellan!
Haul, three of the four The Original colours foundations I ordered in March have arrived, the fourth on it’s way. I was unsure of both the finish and the colour so I ordered the same two colours in both finishes. I still have to try them out with various primers, and without and with various ways of applying. So far I’m undecided but slightly on the negative side. It might be that my skin isn’t at it’s best, but the Chanel Velvet one looked fine thi other day.
Other than that I have some stuff on it’s way here,
Weekend is almost gone, I’m so behind on most everything. there were the annual spring market here yesterday so I rushed past most of it, as I was late (due to foundation disasters). I bought some pretty things in the local antique store.
Mornings, I like it when I don’t wake up to my schnauzer whining, I prefere a good barking. I really like it when I can persuade him to let me snooze just a bit.
I like to fix coffee while I wash my face and or take a shower, and then fix my face up through the sun screen, while drinking the coffee and after that take a nice stroll with the dogs.
Wow! March? That’s a long time to wait! I’m sad that it does not seem to be worth the wait so far.
I think it’s a bit of trial and error with some (most) foundations. Yesterday I used a Beautyblender with the serum foundation and the result was really nice, I had Benefit Porefessional primer under. The foundations seem to be very pigmented, even the one called serum foundation, I had thought it would be sheerer.
I have stupid skin, combination with clearly visible pores, so I need a primer, at least most days, and it need to be good for my skin concernes. It’s a bit of mix, match wash off and start again some days. It even happens with trusted foundations at times.
Haul: Lots of great indy stuff!

Weekend plans: Wednesday we got a rescue guinea pig, Renegade, and Friday we got a 9-month-old kitten, Coco, so bonding with our new pets. (A predator got into our rabbit enclosure, sadly, and got the bunnies. *crying*) The new pets are indoors only, for the obvious reasons. They’re helping my sons heal from the loss of the bunnies. Both pets are really talkative and are adjusting well.
Mainly we’re just trying to beat the heat. It’s been in the upper 80s here this week, which is weird for May.
Yesterday we bought and installed a ceiling fan for the living room, to circulate the air from the AC units in the rest of the house. We bought some groceries and we’ll do more shopping this weekend. We’ll probably just barebecue and hang out at home for Memorial Day.
How do you like to start your mornings?: I don’t. lol Usually a cup of tea is nice after I get dressed. Weekdays I have to get my younger son up and ready for school.
Unicorn Frappuccino, lol! I must confess that even though I’m usually game to try most Starbucks drinks, I stayed away from that one!
So sorry about your rabbits!! 🙁
Thank you for the sympathy about the bunnies.
I love unicorns, but I stayed away from that drink, too. It looked way too sweet.
I hope your baby doggy is feeling better .
He is! Thank you!
