Haul: Bite Amuse Bouche Lipstick The Perfect Bite Set and full-size Pickled Ginger.

Weekend plans: Update my website portfolio, send out resumes/cover letters.

What are you reading?: A Monster Calls

Haul: I was one of the unfortunate thousands who got the wrong MAC Skinfinish. I ordered Taraji Glow but got a different color. Still waiting for MAC to contact me with their response. I called yesterday and they said it would be next week before they start making contact with customers who received the wrong color. This week I picked up two of the Star Trek pressed pigments in The Naked Time and Bird of Prey. I also got Nars Audacious lipsticks in Mona and Shirley.

Weekend plans: Selling used home school curriculum online and cooking hamburgers on the grill.

What I’m reading: I just finished To the Bright Edge of the World on Wednesday. It was a great novel about Alaska exploration after the Alaska became part of the United States.

Latest from MAC: email says I will Taraji Glow but it will take 2-4 months. I get a full refund, keep the wrong product. I got a $25 off coupon for my next MAC order. I am pleased with the outcome. MAC definitely will continue to get my business.

That is great to hear! It sucks, but I’m sure if they could instantly create more of them, they would. I know specifically that even re-running a small batch of eyeshadows was 6-8 weeks for them to replenish inventory.

Tammy, I wrote my comment below before reading yours. MAC said next week??? And here, like literally THOUSANDS of others, I’ve been waiting ALL this week for an answer that they had assured me would happen by Friday. Well, it is Friday, and this would explain the lack of a response so far. Very unnerving!!! They had better NOT muck up the Selena collex too, or I’m done with them!

Bird of Prey is such a beautiful shade, I hope you like it.
That sounds like an excellent book to read – I love those kinds of books. I am going to look it up.

Tammy, I got that same email from MAC a little earlier, and I am super happy with their timely and generous solution to this issue! That’s $25 towards Selena right there, woohoo!!! ?

What a great contented dog smile from Smellan πŸ˜€

Haul: aforementioned Becca Rose Quartz hl
Drunk Elephant Shaba complex eye serum: bloody brilliant applicator
Clinique Prep Start hydroblur moisturizer: liked the trial sample
Marc Jacobs Epic Noir mascara loved the trial sample and get ridiculously long lashes
Lancome bifacil
Peter Thomas Roth youth serum: I alternative this with Skinceuticals Vit C, E, Ferulic as my day serum.

Weekend Plans: try and play catch up on business paperwork, get out on walkies with the dogs

Reading: I have a dozen reads sitting avail on my ipad kindle app, but haven’t been in the mood lately. I’ve been more on a Netflix documentary binge. I’m also so addicted to those epic aerial shows on Smithsonian channel: Canada: Over the Edge and Aerial America.

I think he’s called Smellan more than Mellan in this household. Though the favorite at the moment is “Skettis” or “Spaghetti”!

What makes the applicator so fab on the Drunk Elephant serum?

I know how it goes.. Bernice = Neicey = Neicey smellah = Smells. OMG I call my dog ‘Smells’!!!

Applicator is very thin, maybe an inch in length, clear plastic with hole in centre, tube like. There is a button on the bottom of the canister and you push it. But, thankfully, it isn’t a click button, just a pressure button so you can see the product coming up through the clear applicator and dispense every so tiny amounts. Perfect!

Oh, believe me, my furbabies, too!
Pookie: Pooh Bear, Poo-berry (don’t ask!), Mama Kitty, Pookster.
Scunci: Scuncini, Scrunch, Skunkbutt, Scunchmeister….
Clarissa: Clarabelle, Tiger Balm Kitty (yes, she LOVES the smell of Tiger Balm and tea tree oil).

It is pretty hilarious how they devolve.

Magellan -> Mellan -> Smellan -> Spaghetti -> Sketti -> Skettis

And those are just the main ones, haha!

I actually quite enjoy the smell of Tiger Balm myself!

It’s crazy, but true, they can really wind up with some really good ones! ?

Tiger Balm definately smells good! But Clarissa *eats* it? She gets all weirded out over the smell, like buzzed and won’t leave me alone! And it tickles like mad!!! She also *attacks* my hair!!!

Wwendy, can you let me know how you like that Drunk Elephant eye serum? I’m looking for something for my dry under eye that will moisturize it, but wear well under makeup. Price is ouchie, but I just checked -it got Paula’s Choice top rating, so if it’s good, maybe I can find a value set/sale this holiday season. Thanks!

Think this may not be exactly what you are looking for kt. For me, this works more as an undereye serum to be layered under your moisturizing product. I picked it up because of the copper peptides which are really good for tightening and it’s excellent antioxidants. I do not find it emollient. I do wear eye cream on top of this, right now during the day usually Clinique Prep start for eye. You could always try just regular moisturizer over the Drunk Elephant serum too. For me, the prep start gives that bit of moisture and also makes for a really nice base for makeup. I use a retinol eye cream at night for resurfacing.

Weekend plans: I need to replace my living room curtains since my cat decided to redecorate last night by pulling down the rod and tearing the curtains in the process. I never made it to Dress Barn to use my gift card so I may do that. They opened an H&M near me so I may check that out. Probably hit the farm market too.

What are you reading?: I’m working on a malpractice/wrongful death case for a friend of mine (on the side from my ft job). So currently my free time involves reading up on the recent case law involving the death of a fetus during labor, medical guidelines for maternity and delivery care for at-risk mothers, etc. Just a little light reading πŸ˜‰

Whew! That is an epic haul, Michele!! How do you decide what to try first each week?

The case doesn’t sound happy, but hopefully you can help your friend out!

I never wear makeup when i work from home so it really limits how much I can use in a given week (sometimes only on weekends). The EL Metallishadow is really great; I reach for that bc I love them. Catrice shadows swatched lousy but the liner swatched great – planning to pair it with the UD shadows over the weekend. Torn between using the new UD lippies or the McGrath ones that I still haven’t used. Hoping to get to use several over the weekend.

The case is a nightmare. At risk minor (extremely young) pregnant with twins. Went into labor, one twin died and the other suffered oxygen depletion and now has major lifelong disabilities. I pick up some legal work pro bono every now and again to help on complicated cases even though now I work outside of those areas of law. And thanks – would really like a good outcome for everyone involved.

Gotcha! It must be really fun to play with it during the weekend, then πŸ™‚

I’m sure you will find a way to get the best solution out of the case, Michele. So very sad – I can’t even imagine how much pain the mother (and her family) are going through.

Michele, so sorry to hear about that tragedy, it’s every pregnant woman’s worst nightmare, must be a very difficult case to work on. I think it’s great you’re trying to help out them out in some way. Glad you were able to catch the mini KVD Slayer deal. I swatched EL Edit Cyberrella in store today, and you’re right, it’s gorgeous! The glitter had such pretty sparkle, and I was really impressed by the purple cream shadow, so smooth and pigmented, very hard to find that in purple. If it wears well on you, it’s going on my buy list. Can you let me know how you like the UD Good Karma Optical Blurring Brush? I’ve heard good things about it, but curious what you think. Thanks!

I decided to use Cyberella today. I also decided to try out the Sephora cream eyeshadow brush with it. Cyberalla is just as nice as Red Scarlet. On application it’s more of a plum with a red undertone. The “sparkle” is the same shade as the cream shadow so where the “sparkle” in Red Scarlet adds a gradient to the shadow look, the one in Cyberella accentuates the shade itself. I used the cream up just past my crease and the sparkle on the lid only. Like with Red Scarlet, I did add another shade for the browbone (I used the one from UD Aura) and one for the inner corner (I used Japonesque 01). The Sephora cream brush was outstanding.

I also went ahead and used a cream blush (the Rose one from Makeup Atelier) with the UD Blurring Brush. The brush is also outstanding. It’s better than my Wayne Goss cream brush! The handle is nicely weighted and it fits well in the hand. It easily picked up the cream blush. The bristles as densely packed but soft. It was easy to use to apply the blush and build the coverage to where I wanted it. It’s worth the full price but at 50% off which it is now, it’s a steal. I highly recommend it.

Thanks Michele!! The EL Cyberella, Sephora cream brush, and UD brush are all on my buy list for next sale/promo. The UD one is on sale, but out of stock, but will sign up for the notification email

Haul: nothing but an Avene eye cream (again, I’m trying to buy or at least see those new shades that Buxom released a while back….I called Sephora this week and was told to call back today as they might be out on display/unpacked from the back; Sephora’s finder feature indicated these were in this particular store almost 3 weeks ago, when I went there, all in vain).

Weekend plans: have to go to some music “thing” tonight; gym tomorrow and on Sunday, visiting a friend/colleague with a new baby – just dying to see her.

What are you reading now: I love the mysteries by Quentin Bates and I’m re-reading the first one, Frozen Assets (I’ve read it before but enjoy it so much I’m reading it again).

In the U.S., one of managers at a store told me that when the box is shipped, it immediately says it is in stock, even if it hasn’t been received/unpacked!

Yup – I was told the same thing. It’s annoying, though, to make a long drive in search of something that Sephora says is in that particular store, only to find it’s not there. Not the fault of the store staff (in past, they’ve gone into the back to get stuff for me that’s not out on the floor yet) but the fault of Sephora’s stupid system. They should offer something more reliable to customers. I phoned to see if it’s in yet and, still not unpacked or maybe even not received. I don’t like phoning and pestering them but if it spares me a long and fruitless drive, I’ll do it. Oh, maybe this is all to remind me that I’m supposed to be on a “no buy”.

I always try to phone. Sometimes I phone multiple times, LOL, if I am not going to get there within 30 minutes of calling! I even just get nervous when they say, “Oh, it’s in the back, but we can sell it to you.” I try to get their name and make sure to be there before they leave!

Haul: Muji drawers…couldn’t resist the steal

about the Japonesque brushes, I decided that I didn’t really need them so I am bringing them back to the store.

Weekend plans: Hanging out with the sisters…going to the gardens

What are you reading?: Trying to fit in some reading time but can’t figure out what happens to all of my time lol Let me know what you think of the illustrated copy of HP…I’ve been thinking about getting it

Haul: NYX High Voltage lipstick in Rags to Riches, Elf Mad for Matte palette, Wet n Wild contour palette in Caramel Toffee, Elf Studio Small Tapered brush

Weekend plans: Driving up to Delaware/Pennsylvania right now. Staying at a friend’s tonight, wedding & Airbnb tomorrow, then driving back to South Carolina Sunday. I’m very excited. I haven’t seen a familiar face in over 2 months!

What are you reading?: Just finished It’s Not Fair by Melanie Dale. Perfect for anyone who’s living a life they never planned! And my Bible.

Haul: MAC Star Trek lipstick in Where No Man Has Gone Before…surprised by how much I like this lipstick, I actually really like lusters. It’s the only lipstick I picked up from the collection as I strongly dislike frost finish lipsticks from MAC. Also picked up Whirl lipliner to go with this lipstick.
Weekend Plans:
What are you reading? The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (slowly getting through this despite loving The Adventures of Tom Sawyer) and The Fault in Our Stars…my reading list is way too long. Oh also reading a devotional book on The Sermon on the Mount and the book of Ezekiel in the bible.

oh and don’t have too much planned for the weekend which is why I must have forgotten to fill that part in lol, but probably just gonna go shopping and get a pedicure πŸ™‚

Haha well I studied Literature in college so was forced to learn to read multiple books at once, but I try not to read more than one fiction book at once. I usually like to read one fiction and one non-fiction at a time, but I have a ridiculously large stack of books that I have purchased or borrowed that I need to get through so I’m reading two fictions at once right now. However, I try not to read them both in the same day since I am trying to read at a more leisurely pace, the reading I did for college kinda burned me out. I actually didn’t even read another book the year after I graduated (ok maybe I read one or two but I decided to catch up on all the TV I had neglected). It has been three years now though so I’m back on the reading πŸ™‚

Haul: My ColourPop order finally came. I ordered 4 metallic glosses and 2 metallic liquid lippies, and then got 2 ultra matte lippies free. They are all interesting… I kind of worry that they wear off rather unattractively since it’s essentially a solid layer of micro shimmer. I think I am going to officially give up on ColourPop. I’m so glad other people love t but none of their formulas have really worked for me. At least it wasn’t a big investment! I also bought all 3 colors of the Sephora Midnight Magic glitter pots- so pretty! I am actually going to try pressing some this weekend, so I am excited to see how it turns out! They are labeled as glitter but they are really a fine shimmer powder.
Weekend plans: my pigment-pressing project! Also many more bathroom remodeling decisions, and hopefully getting to the dog park while it’s still nice out.
What are you reading?: “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children,” I saw the movie trailer so I decided to read the book. So far it’s a fun read! Before that I recently finished “Inside of a Dog,” which is a non-fiction book on dog behavior and their relationship with people- also a really good one if you don’t mind a more scientific read and love dogs!

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children is a good book. A Wrinkle in Time is my favorite childhood book. One of the first books I read. And I can’t wait to see the movie that’s coming out!

I hear you: I’m loaded up on Colourpop too and I’ve decided that I really do not care for their eyeshadow formula at all. They come in handy if I just want to splooge a specific colour into one spot on my eye with my finger (inner corner highlight) or just tap onto the lid, but otherwise, they suck for me with brushes and blending; and have too many other products which are far easier/faster. The price always has me waffling and then buying.

I finally found the right lip product to enable me to wear the LIppie Stix and that makes me happy. I have a couple of colours in the formula which are HG for me. I have a couple of pencils of theirs which I also love, but as far as the big lot of shadows/highlighters/and blushes.. I rarely touch them. I was curious about the metallic lip product, but based on what you are saying, I’m just taking a pass.

Hi Mellan, you cutie pie!

Haul:

Oh Becca how I hate to love you! This line works so well for me, in large measure, but I have my issues with it –mostly skimpy quantities.

Becca — Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed – Rose Quartz. Delivery Monday.

Becca — Champagne Splits Shimmering Skin Perfector Mineral Blush Duo – Prosecco Pop highlight/ Pamplemousse blush. Prosecco Pop much better on me than the other highlighters, and Pamplemousse works so well too.

Kat Von D Shade + Light Contour Palette — Returned unused. I have to simplify my routine and cut back somewhere. A bit of bronzer works well for me, so this was returned. Just too much for my head.

BRUSHES:
Kat Von D Shade + Light Contour Brush — This I’m keeping. Like it a LOT.
SEPHORA COLLECTION Pro Fan Brush #65 — Like it a LOT.

Living Proof Frizz Shampoo and Conditioner
Living Proof Satin Hair Serum
I’ve never been a fan of LP products–found them drying and disappointing. Conferred with the LP consultant at the Sephora event last week, and she advised this line would be good for me. I figured I’d return it if it didn’t work. Very, VERY happy with it. My hair is falling the way I want it — 2nd and even 3rd day hair looks nice. So far so good.

Evian Mineral Water Spray replacement.

Weekend plans:
Trying to catch up on chores we ignored as we took advantage of spending time at the pool and having summer fun. Take the dogs swimming for one of the last times–gets to cold for US to get splashed. πŸ™‚ Other than that, nothing on the docket.

What are you reading?:
Some writing I have to do for work has led me back to the work of Ignatius of Loyola. I am a secular person, but no matter. His kind, inclusive, giving and healing view of the world is good for the soul. It’s been wonderful to delve into.

Oops forgot … Got the Charlotte Tilbury Air Brush Flawless powder in last last week’s haul, but hadn’t used it. Review is A+, love it.

As an aging woman, I had given up setting anything. Tried all the usual suspects in translucent powders — RCMA, Mercier, Tarte, etc. All major fails. But not this.

I use a light sweep to set foundation and concealer. The finish is beautiful, it doesn’t stick in any fine lines, and allows blush/bronzer/highlighter to go on smoother. It’s not cheap, but it beautifully does what it claims. Glad I have it.

Linda so glad you like the CT powder. I had previously tried it and it didn’t work for me. Perhaps I got a bad batch as it was nothing like you describe! I was going to try the Koh Gen Do Maifanshi Natural Lighting Powder since it came highly recommended but perhaps I need to give CT a try again.

Sort of off topic, but not completely – I wish someone lived close to me that loved makeup! My best friend and my daughter do not wear makeup. I put all the products i decide I don’t want in a bag, including free samples that are untouched, and have been giving them to my daughter to share with her friends. Now her friends say they have too much and don’t need anymore. I hate to throw good things out! Esp. since many times, I’ll order a blush for example, and try it once and decide I don’t want it since the shade doesn’t work for me. Other times, I bag up a product simply bc I’ve gotten tired of it and something new has been released and I just want to replace it.

I’ll update about the KGD after I’ve bought it and tried it. I believe Katherine mentioned that Nordstrom may be doing a GWP soon on a line I plan on buying product from so I’ll likely combine the order.

Not off topic at all. I have the same issue, which is why I prolly started posting here like a maniac. Lots pent up! πŸ™‚

First of all, I have all sons. My one DIL is one of those natural beauties who has little interest in makeup. One of my other sons is getting very serious with this girl that “fingers-crossed” he marries (there I said it — we love her!), and there is hope for me there to have someone to share this fun with.

NOT ONE of my friends is into makeup. Not one. At work? Lawdy, that’s even more of a makeup desert. I need to do a makeover on every woman there. It’s the kind of place where everyone proudlly says the first and last time they wore makeup was at there wedding, often many moons ago. I think they thin *I* landed from the moon. πŸ™‚ My one makeup friend moved to CA, and my college roommate who I would share this with is in LA. I’m in MA. It’s lonely. lol

Linda, Too funny! I work from home but when I worked out of my office (DC), it was a very very conservative office. Almost nobody wore makeup there either. I live in WV but in the Panhandle – 15 min. from MD, 20 min. from PA, and 25 min. from VA. Too bad I didn’t know you were MA, I drove through on my August vacay on the way to ME. πŸ™‚ I really wish there was someone I could give the products to (esp. the brand new ones) that would appreciate/use them. I literally have several dozen deluxe size HE mascaras that haven’t been touched (as an example).

Do you finish a lot of your Becca products, Linda? I used to care more about value, but as long as it isn’t super below industry averages, I’d rather pay less, since I know I am unlikely to FINISH things, haha!

I do, Christine. I finish a great deal of what I have from all lines, but especially from Becca. It’s kind of my thing, I think from growing up without a lot.

I just have the rim left of the Becca powder foundation I got this summer. I have used up concealer after concealer of hers, and I’m getting way down into the Papaya/Topaz souffle blush. Ombre Rouge eye palette, gonzo except for the lightest color. BUT…on me, it’s some of the best products I have. I know I hit pan on them a lot sooner than with any other line. So the “value” is there in terms of how it looks on me, but I still think she’s skimpy. πŸ™‚

Becca’s Pamplemousse looks so nice
on my skin tone too, love that with
Prosecco Pop!

Maybe I should try the Living Proof products you listed. I have very curly hair and likewise have always found LP products to be drying Abe ineffective.

Hi Tammy,
I’m pleasantly surprised and was SUPER skeptical. Even though I don’t like to return, Sephora does have that awesome policy, so I figured nothing to lose. Getting samples isn’t enough product, as I felt I had to use it over time.

If you get the Satin Serum, which I do like, keep in mind the directions to keep it off your roots. First time, I didn’t, and while it was “fine” it was a bit too frizz free (i.e. limp πŸ™‚ ).

If you get it, check in about what you think.

I’m wearing Becca Split in Pamplemouse/Prosecco Pop today. The colors are so pretty, love the gold shimmer in Prosecco, and I’m so impressed how Pamplemousse is lasting 9 hours without a touch up, which is almost unheard of on my blush eating cheeks!

Hi Katherine!

The wear, right?! Yesterday I used the Pamplemousse to set the Papaya/Topaz souffle blush. Could sound like a weird combo, but it works on me. Got ready for work at 7, got home, grabbed the dogs, went into the city and got home at 9. The blush was STILL there. It still looked good. I was amazed. It’s why I complain about Becca, but shut my eyes and go with it.

The sample of Geurlain Lingerie de Peau foundation with the CT powder over held up too. I’m dialing that part in as well. Still a few more samples to try in that area.

hi Linda,

Wow, it’s so impressive that you finish up eyeshadows and blushes! And I hear you: I got so fond of reading everything here since I have no one to talk about makeup either. Just one collegue, much younger then I am, but she’s not so into it as I am. So glad to have you all as my makeup-buddies. πŸ™‚

β€’Haul: I ordered more Muji drawers. I’m trying to downsize to what I can store on my vanity. I also bought one of those iRobot Roomba vacuums. No more dog hair for me!!!
β€’Weekend plans: Going to get our new couches delivered tomorrow and the dogs go to the groomer tomorrow.
β€’What are you reading?: Textbooks, text books, PowerPoint slides and more textbooks!

Mindy: Would love to hear more details about your Roomba experience. 4 dogs. I vacuum every single day. My house is open concept, but with varied floor surfaces; mostly hardwood, but also some tile and carpet. Wondered if our daily volume of dog hair would bring a Roomba to its knees. Also worried the furballs may try to eat it. Not worried about the big dogs. It’s the JRT and Dachshund.. they are crazed hunter types

Haul: Dr. Hauschka eyeshadow palette, no name or number, but an assortment of mattes from ivory to a cool brown, Lipstick Queen Ice Queen lipstick (a shimmery topper). Pixi H2O Skintint in Cream and Pixi Liplift Max in Sheer Rose.
Weekend plans: actually, returning some of the items above. We found out that our dog needs dental surgery to remove some buried roots, so we may be eating beans and rice for awhile. That’s ok, we love our puppy girl. Oh, also going to a party Saturday night for the dude who was best man at our wedding.
What are you reading?: Other than this blog every morning? ? Not much. I’ve been randomly pulling older, unused cookbooks off my shelves to try and get some cooking inspiration. I’ve seriously lost my mojo in that department.

Haul: BiTE Holiday Mini set with the colors Fig, Nori, HoneyComb and Pepper and got the mini Dior in red with coupon code. I may order the Smashbox Light It Up mini set. I am loving mini lipsticks because not only are they super adorable they are becoming more practical for me. I can’t get through all of my lipsticks obviously so the minis’ help plus I’m able to get brands I haven’t brought full-size in like I have two mini Laura Mercier in Milky Way – I LOVE that color and now I don’t need a full size for a while.

β€’Weekend plans: Today is gym time with my personal trainer after work, then My friends son has a football game tonight and scouts are coming to watch him so I’m going to go support him then after his game I’m heading out tonight with a friend for some drinks. Tomorrow is my jobs Annual Black Tie Gala so I’m getting all dolled up and going to that then heading outside with my co-worker afterwards for more drinks and possibly meet up with a friend who is coming into town for the Vikings game. Sunday I work PT at a shoe store (7 yrs now) so I go there, watch the game then go home and chill with my son. WHEW that sounds like a lot….
β€’What are you reading?: I’m still on my Jefferson Bass Body Farm series. There are 10 books (just found out one was released a month ago YEY) and I’m on book 5 – got 6- 9 at home so gotta go get 10. If you’ve ever seen CSI (the original) and Grissom the main guy was always doing experiments with corpses and talked about the Body Farm, this is what he was talking about. Jefferson Bass are the two men who founded the Body Farm where bodies are donated to be experimented on. Their farm is the reason why we have such detailed evidence in deaths, murders, etc. They have studied every single way a body can die and so on, it’s so cool. I’d love to go visit but they stopped public tours. : (

Lots of fun mini sets out this year! The only thing I don’t LOVE about minis is that they are more prone to breaking off their bases than full-size.

I’ll have to mention that series to my husband, he watches some crime type stuff, so he might find it interesting.

Haul: my Tarte color wheels have arrived in the UK this afternoon! So they’re almost here! Joehoe! Also ordered some skincare…
Weekend plans: reading, writing and cleaning the house. Our lovely Indian summer is over, so no more excuses for not working. πŸ™
Reading: I am a professional reader and I find I do not read enough ‘for myself’. But when I do it, it feels great, it’s freedom. Currently I am re-reading The Great Gatsby. After this I want to read more from Scott Fitzgerald. He left a compact oeuvre with a lot of short stories as well. I love short stories.

Aww, doggie smile πŸ™‚
*Haul – from Ulta 21 days of beauty, Lorac Ultra Source Blush in Tinge (it’s pretty but very light, have to pack on 3- 4 layers on my light/light med skin), Sephora Marc Jacobs birthday set, will also pick up my free shadow Midnight Cowboy from Ulta
*Weekend -it’s my birthday this weekend, so dinner at restaurant and swatchfest at local stores, maybe pick up some makeup treats πŸ™‚
*Reading – always beauty blogs and news

β˜…β‹°β‹±β˜…β‹°β‹±β˜…β‹°β‹±β˜…β‹°β‹±β˜…
β˜… Happy Birthday… β˜…
β˜…β‹±β‹°β˜…β‹±β‹°β˜…β‹±β‹°β˜…β‹±β‹°β˜…

Have a wonderful bday, Katherine! I’m so glad I’ve gotten to know you thanks to Temptalia. And thanks again for the rec on the Tarte blush wheel. I ordered it first thing today.

Awww, thanks Rachel! Yes, so glad to know you too πŸ™‚ I always look forward to your comments and and hearing about the interesting indie brands you get into. Glad you were able to get your hands on that Tarte blush wheel, what a steal!

Oh, it’s been awesome, thank you! A nice dinner outside, an Ulta gift card from hubby, and the retailers have been showering me with free birthday makeup goodies, discounts, coupons, sales, etc πŸ™‚

Haul: think I’m utd. But memebox came and I’m progressing very slowly adding in product. I’m driven by the ingredients, rather than by the KB/AB aspect. Though I must say, often the AB choices are considerably cheaper than Paula, and generally conform to her precepts, with the exception of alcohol and fragrance. Can’t wait to see KA bloodroses on you. Katherine should like it, too. Will that be #38 or #51 on the list, Ms. Katherine? Ought not poke fun, as we all have OOC lipstick lists, due to the plethora of offerings. KA d/c’d the only other shade I craved. Think it was called Dantrice. W/e: ssdw, but I have the good fortune to be looking after a Shih Tzu, whose parents went out of state. There is something to be said about those companion animals. They are more human than doglike! But Jussi is enough dog for them both. Fun. He has had lots of dog time with his ‘cousins.’ If he disappears in the yard, the chihuahua channels his inner meerkat to look for him. Then Jussi tears across the yard, breaking into that dachshund run that looks like a goldfinch. With the huahua standing and craning. I think they are more at the parallel play stage. Reading: still on the Jo Nesbo. My summer neighbor, a former fifth grade teacher, says ‘I hate that exotic locale crap!’ Well, bud Dennis Lehane has a limited oeuvre. I LOVE books set in places I have never been, like tha Bangkok series by Burdett.

I love how Mellan looks like he has a little winged eyeliner going.

Haul: Macy’s had (are still having?) a $10 off every $50 purchase event, so I picked up some staples and random things I’ve been meaning to try: MAC Paint Pot in Soft Ochre, Inglot Duraline, MAC Fix+, Elizabeth Arden Smoky Eyes Powder Pencil in Mulberry and Black Violet and Inglot Freedom System Single Eyeshadow (Pearl) in 423.

I already know I have to return/exchange the Elizabeth Arden pencil in Mulberry-the Black Violet one is gorgeous, but Mulberry is dried up and the pigment isn’t there. I only got the single eyeshadow because I was at $94 and needed something to get me to $100, but I’m excited to use it. I’ve never tried an Inglot shadow before. It looks really promising.

Weekend plans: For today and Sunday, more moving and organizing of things that I’ve moved. On Saturday I guess I’m going to a fall heritage festival thing and watching the 4 year old daughter of a friend of my mom’s. Not too thrilled about it, which makes me feel bad, but right now I’m so tired all I want to do is sleep for the entire weekend.

What are you reading?: Nothing, sadly. The first Harry Potter sounds like fun though! It’s been a while since I’ve read those books.

Wow great promo! If you return the EA pencil in Mulberry, you might want to look at either the Marc Jacobs liner in Blacquer(berry), there’s a recent swatch on my Instagram although sorry I think it came out a bit blurry bc I was having camera issues, or the Trish McEvoy one in Deep Aubergine. Both are very good and I think the shades may be similar to the EA one. I know I saw another one very close in shade and if I can think of it, I’ll pop back and let you know.
Please let us know what you think of the Inglot shadow. I’ve looked at them several times but never bought one.
Have fun at the festival – part of the fun of Fall!

Michele, I have some Inglot shadows. My downtown Macy’s has a medium sized display so I can swatch, but nowhere near the hundreds that Inglot has online. They are a mixed bag, but you can pick your colors, and choose the best ones. In general, I find their mattes dry, their satins and shimmers are usually good. I like to keep my purse light, so I find the Inglot cases that hold 1 or 2 shadows are ok, but the 3’s are getting heavy, and the 4’s too heavy/bulky, but you can also pop them into a Z palette. The cases are sturdy, come with mirror, and foam applicator. The pans are huge and very affordable.

Thank you! My closest Macy’s actually closed! Funny though, one of the Macy’s distribution centers is located in my city and it’s still open. Appreciate the tip about the cases. typically if I’m going to carry shadows I usually only need one or two for a quick touch up. Normally I save the smaller GWP palettes (like the one I got not too long ago from Lancome) for my handbag. Maybe next time I place an order from Beautylish, I’ll order 1 or 2 Inglot shadows in a satin or shimmer.

Thank you for sharing, Katherine T.! I’ve heard some mixed reviews about Inglot before, but I wasn’t sure what shades/in what way they were under-performing. I’m glad I didn’t choose a matte!

Not all of their mattes are dry, but it’s dicey if you can’t swatch in store. I recommend staying away from their Rainbow shadows -these are 1 pan but have 3 different colors in them. I swatched about 10 pans in store, and all of them were pretty bad, dry and sheer. I don’t think 3 different shadows were meant to share 1 pan, as the different pigments probably require different formulas (just think of the Hourglass Modernist palette disaster). But Inglot has some really great stuff at very reasonable prices, just wish they had more stores/counters.

Oh, ok. That’s good to know! I’ve seen those rainbow shadows (on sale I think) but wasn’t sure if they’d be any good-thank you for letting me know! I agree. I don’t know why makeup companies continue to make different eyeshadows in the same pan. Yeah, for sure. I’ve looked on their website before and all the different colors are overwhelming imo. It would be amazing if they were in more stores.

It was! I don’t think Macy’s does promos like that too often? I was happy to catch it. Thank you so much for the recommendations! Those sound like great options! Is your Instagram name on your profile here? I looked but couldn’t find it. My username (handle? I’m really new to Instagram) on there is daphneclearwater. (And I haven’t started posting my own pictures yet, but I really should.) Those both sound great! I’ve never tried anything from Trish McEvoy, but I’ve always been kind of curious. Thank you!

I definitely will! I haven’t had a chance to try it yet, but I’ll make a point to in the next week and update here or in next Friday’s haul.

Thank you! I agree with that. It was ok. A much lower turnout than last year, and the kid I’m watching today got sick yesterday from one of the food vendors, so we weren’t too thrilled to spend a lot of time there. She got her face painted like a puppy (her mind was very set on that) and that was about it.

My Instagram is @Binxcat4ever (also on Twitter). I found you on Instagram and followed you.

The quality is there for Trish McEvoy but the selection is very limited. Her gel eyeliners are very good though. Her brand is very skincare focused and her color cosmetics tend to be more “natural” in their look. So the shades you get are more subdued.

Oh no – sorry the she got sick – πŸ™ The Fall festivals are just beginning to start here. I have one calendared for next weekend though. Oh, and I would totally get my face painted as a puppy (or a cat more likely)…that’s not wrong is it? πŸ™‚

Thank you, Michele!

I’m glad to hear that Trish McEvoy products are good (I love gel eyeliner, so I’m especially happy about that). I noticed that-I rarely see more than a few products listed for her, so I kind of assumed that she has a core collection but doesn’t release a lot new products, at least makeup-wise. I’ll definitely have to check some of her products out. I don’t always go for the more natural look, but it’s always nice to have the option.

Thank you! Yeah, I feel bad that she was so sick. It’s never fun to have to hang out at another person’s house when you’re not feeling well, especially when you’re little. When we got back here she played with blocks for a while and then fell asleep for two hours (according to her mom she almost never naps, and then only for about 30 minutes).

That sounds like fun! I hope you have a great time at it. Lol! Not at all. I would too (as a cat).

Haul: Pretty Zombie Cosmetics liquid lipsticks in Mars and Morticia. Poe’s Tobacco candle and perfume from TokyoMilk. A bunch of bath bombs from Whipped Up Wonderful on etsy. Sephora collection mud mask and VIB Appreciation sample bag from Sephora.

Weekend Plans: Moooore work on the house. Roto-Rooter is coming tomorrow morning to hydra-jet our sewer pipe. Thanks to everyone who sent me well-wishes for the inspection, everyone signed off and we will get our insurance check this week. Also my cousin’s birthday is next week and his wife is throwing a surprise party tomorrow night so we’re going to that πŸ™‚

What are you reading: Sherlock Holmes and the Servants of Hell by Paul Kane, and My Enemy My Ally: The Bloodwing Voyages book 1 by Diane Duane.

Mellan/s smiling! He is so adorable.

Haul: Nothing except some Clarisonic brush heads– I always try to stock up by using the Clarisonic brush deals at Ulta during 21 Days of Beauty.

Weekend plans: No real plans! Except my boyfriend wants to build a “Plinko” drinking game… :/

What am I reading: I have several books going right now, the most recently added is “It Ends With Us” by Colleen Hoover. My mom, sister, sisters-in-law, and I do a monthly “book club” together and this one had amazing reviews on Amazon, so we picked it.

Haul: Nothing yet but a trip to Target looms on the horizon.
Weekend Plans: Brunch on Sunday and shopping on Saturday.
Reading: A book by CS Friedman but I can recall the name.

Haul: Ciate London Moisturizing Matte Lipsticks in Chatterbox and Pin Up, Sephora Collection Inner Rim Gel Liner in Fawn Over Me, a cute bag stuffed with samples I got at Sephora as a gift (it was VIB Rouge appreciation), Maybelline Loaded Bolds lipstick in Raging Raisin.

Weekend plans: I need a nap so bad. Lol! I do want to go see a free flute/piano performance at the public library on Saturday.

What are you reading?: β€œMedieval Panorama” by Robert Bartlett

What a big, beautiful pupster smile! ?❀?

Haul: Nothing. Still just waiting to hear something from MAC about the whole Taraji snafu. Hopefully, they’ll give all of us who received the wrong item another opportunity to get what we actually ordered in the first place!

Weekend plans: Hair, nails, meeting. And go hit Ulta tomorrow for a UD Afterglow Blush. Really want Bittersweet!

What are you reading: the Bible, news and Temptalia! I cannot remember when I last had the attention span and ability to just relax and read a novel. But when I did, I loved ones like James Michener’s due to his remarkable story telling enmeshed with actual history.

I’m waiting too Nancy! I thought I’d accidentally ordered the wrong item until I went on MAC’s site and noticed the blush I ordered was correct. They had the wrong label on it. I have a lot of dupes for the Highlight the Truth already. It is pretty but I wanted the blush. Hope they send the product I ordered!

Okay, so some VERY good news: I DID get an email this afternoon from MAC. They are going to redo the products, but only for people who contacted them about the mishap and left their email or phone number with MAC to be contacted back. They are going to fix it, but it will take 2-4 months to get it done, but yes, we will have our Taraji Glow, and get to keep what we received ON THEM!

Haul: nothing this week! I will grab the Stila palette that’s the daily deal at Ulta on Sunday though, and probably the dr Brandt vitamin c serum as well.
Weekend plans: a wedding tomorrow!
Reading: a fun book in French by an author I didn’t know, it’s an interesting mix of crime/comedy set in an apartment building where the tenants are the main characters. But apparently someone picks them based on their personalities to see how they will interact, as a sort of social experiment, and it turns wrong!

Haul-It was my birthday so I had an excuse. I got the Dior Skyline Couture quint, Paul and Joe Cheek Colour (so cute with with little cats), and a Shiseido face enhancing trio, all free with Shopper’s Drug Mart points. Also purchased the Smashbox Photo Matte palette, Clarins Booster oil and 2 LancΓ΄me Absolu Rouge Lipsticks (BOGO free).

Weekend Plans-Depends on the weather, lots of house and yard stuff to do

And I am in between books. Will start something new this weekend.

Paul & Joe’s stuff is so cute. I can’t believe I haven’t caved on buying any yet.

Awww, Mellan has a great smile. <3

Haul: Two tubes of Too Faced Shadow Insurance ( I used a HSN coupon for $20 off a $40 order using Visa checkout), multi-tool hairclips (I don't know if they actually work, but they're cute. lol), pewter colored ballet flats. I ordered UD vintage lipstick in UV-B, the Gash eyeshadow single, the UD Junkie Vice Lipstick Palette, and the Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush Color Wheel.

Weekend plans: I'm tagging along with hubby to Eugene, and I'm going to meet a Facebook friend in person for the first time while I'm there.

What are you reading?: Nothing at the moment except school forms for my son. I need to start a new book.

And…I went to Ulta to swatch Vice lipsticks and came home with: Seismic and the Blackmail lipstick palette. I was going to get Big Bang and Conspiracy, but when I realized they were both in the palette and the palette was only a buck more, so I went with that. And the Razor liner in Retrograde…and some of the new Nyx lipliners. I’d been doing so well with my low buy the last couple of months. πŸ™ I can count this stuff as early birthday gifts, right? πŸ˜‰

Pewter ballet flats you say… I have a weakness for ballet flats and pewter, LOL!

Have fun meeting your friend in person for the first time πŸ˜€ How exciting!

The pewter are the same kind as the flats I got a couple weeks ago. When I saw pewter in my size were back in stock, I snagged them. I have really wide feet, so I’m always happy to find something interesting that fits.

My friend had to cancel at the last minute, but her bad new turned to good news. She may actually end up moving to my area in the near future. She’s really cool and a makeup junkie, so I know she and I would have fun if we got together.

Haul: BH Cosmetics Foil Eyes Palette!! I love it!!

Weekend plans: Seeing a friend who is in town tonight and tomorrow I have a women’s meetup I’m hosting!

What are you reading?: Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami

Haul: my mini Colour Pop haul finally arrived today, Wolfie, Flitter and 3-way. Gorgeous!
MAC Star Trek Strange New Worlds highlighter. I had originally wanted this when I did my big Star Trek haul but it was sold out at the time. When it came back in stock, I was on it! Love it.

Plans for weekend: I’m going to my friend’s birthday lunch tomorrow, there’ll be only 3 of us as always. The birthday girl I have known since I was at primary school and my other friend I have been friends with for 8 years. They have been friends since college. So there’s a lot of gossip and catching up to do! The rest of the weekend will be spent looking at houses to rent as we have to move out by Jan.

What I’m reading: I read beauty blogs and go on Facebook. I don’t have the focus or concentration to read big blocks of prose unfortunately cos of my b12 deficiency but it is slowly improving with more frequent injections. The last book I read was a chick-lit book, Trust Me, I’m a Vet, 2 months ago. I do miss reading properly, I did English Literature.

Oh, that is splendid, Claire — so glad you were able to catch the highlighter on restock!

Have a blast with your friends tomorrow πŸ™‚

Mellan is so cute!
Haul: I did a Sephora haul using your link. And I used my VIB 10% off. I got Urban Decay’s Moondust palette, Laura Mercier Fall in love Illuminator palette, Natasha Denona 5 platte #10, Kat Von D Tattoo black eyeliner, ABH angled cut small 15 brush (it’s been in my cart forever not sure why,lol probably read about somewhere ) Clarisonic twin replacement heads in sensitive. Haven’t used anything yet but I’m really excited to try everything!

Weekend Plans: My friend from New York is in town so we’ll probably hang out . Dinner at some restaurant with my daughter. We found the best cupcake place, Gigi’s Cupcakes. Going to treat myself to a couple!

What are you reading: I love books always reading a few . Being Mortal by Atul Gawande a great nonfiction book about aging and mortality. I recommend it for all adults. I Almost Forgot About You by Terry Mcmillan – funny about a woman looking up her past loves , The Good Liar by Nicholas Searle about a con artist who meets his match . Several magazines and a Stephen King audiobook -End of Watch. Just as obsessed about books as I am about makeup!LOL

Thank you so much for the support, Denise! πŸ™‚ It is very much appreciated!

What’s your favorite type of cupcake from Gigi’s Cupcakes?

Christine, if I use the Ebates & Mr. Rebates link on your website, do you get a cut? If yes, can you post them under the Support Temptalia feature?

If you signed up for Ebates through my referral (sign-up) link, then I’d get an initial fee when you use Ebates the first time but nothing later on. Mr. Rebates is different, but like Ebates, it only counts if you signed-up under my referral (sign-up) link in the first place; Mr. Rebates works where I get paid based on how much you get back, which is 20% (so if you get $1.00 cash back, I get $0.20) for as along as you use Mr. Rebates.

For both, it is attached to how and who referred you for the initial sign-up!

Ok gotcha. Sorry, hope this is the last question. So for Mr. Rebates, in order for you to get the cash back, do I have to go through the link in your website each time I make a purchase, or just the first time?

Ah! Well, I’ve always preferred Mr. Rebates over Ebates for a number of reasons. I will see if I can work something out, so I’m supporting your blog every time I use Mr. Rebates

Mellon really looks like he is posing for the photo – such a happy doggie!
Haul: just some skincare items: Aveeno Sensitive skin gentle scrub, daily moisturisers and cleansers.
Weekend Plans: Getting through the mammoth loads of washing from our trip, which was lovely. Having my eldest son’s birthday gathering on Sunday (A seafood feast he requested) and cleaning. I went shopping with my grand daughter Olivia yesterday and she wanted to buy a present for her uncle – she chose a teddy “because he doesn’t have one on his bed” and a book. She is very observant.
Book: Just finished The Secret Place by Tana French – fantastic and have now started reading Shetland – by Ann Cleeves – a beautiful book on all the different islands that make up the Shetland group. She is a crime writer and has set a series of books in Shetland, this book is mainly photographic and shows the islands through the seasons. I love reading.

Diptyque Philosykos and Eau Moheli – EDT’s.
Revlon wide lip pencils in 001 Honey Douce (light blue-toned pink), 105 Demure Reservee (peach gloss), and 229 Sultry Sulfereuse (matte cooltoned rosy red). I think the metallic finish on the pencil must signify it’s a sheer glossy finish?

I’ve only experienced the Diptyque in EDTs. Philosykos lasts longer of the two, a few hours. Eau Moheli is very bright for a while then disappears, but lasts long enough for me to feel it’s worthwhile to own and reapply if necessary. However, fragrances last longer on me generally than on most people. If someone had a problem with fragrances disappearing quickly, the EDPs would be a better bet. Some of the Diptyque fragrances come in oil form in roll-ons — am thinking of getting the Eau Moheli also in oil roll-on for purse or travel.

Last week I drove two hours to a free standing Mac to turn in my empties. I got Rice paper eye shadow and a lipglass. This week I went to Mac at Dillard’s. I bought the extra dimension eye shadow in Havana and grand galaxy. I ordered an Artis 6 brush. It should be here soon. I pre-sold Mac studio sculpt foundation for Dillard’s foundation frenzy event. I went to Ulta and bought Loreal voluminous mascara and Loreal eye make up remover. I scored a free bag and used the $5 off coupon.

Yes, Christine, I use Ricepaper as a brow highlight as well. Years ago one of the Mac artists recommended that I use Ricepaper as a brow highlight. So I’ve been using it like that since then. I use it almost daily.

Haul: Sulwahsoo cushion foundation in shade 11. I really love my Chosungah but am looking for something with just a little bit more coverage so ordered this on-line and am anxiously awaiting it’s arrival. I ordered a couple of shadows from Rituel de Fille including the one used by Lisa Eldridge in her last video. They are apparently having a moment on YT so I picked up there sample kit just to try some colors out. I also ordered Bite Multi-sticks in Cerise and Mochi and finally got my hands on the Sephora eye liner pencil in Ice Ice Baby.
Weekend Plans: Moving furniture into storage so that I can start a small remodel.
Book I am reading: I read a lot and quite quickly so I fly through the books. I am actually re-reading Pride and Prejudice and have been making my way through all of the James Patterson novels. I have finished all of the Michael Bennett series, Alex Cross, Private, NYPD and Women’s Detective Club and am currently working on his stand alone novels. I really like forensics but his books do not have enough forensics for me. I got started on them and decided I might as well finish them while I am waiting for Patricia Cornwell to publish something else.

Looking good, Mellan!

Haul:
MAC:
e/s Coppering (as a dupe for Chanel’s Rouge Brule because I didnt act fast enough! I had this shade for the longest time and gave it away two years ago. I can’t even find Rouge Brule on ebay! I’m going to try Coppering with mixing mediums and dry to see how it will work with Chanel’s Le Candeur quad).

NARS Audacious lipstick Apoline
Makeup Forever Aqua Cream e/s in Plum
Points used for Bite Beauty Gaspacho, Stella McCartney POP

Tom Ford Quads in Orchid Haze and Silvered Topaz

Macy’s:
Chanel blush in Rouge Profond

YSL
Volume Effet waterproof mascara – I had it monogrammed! ? I feel so fancy applying it.

Potential hauls:
Guerlain Lingerie De Peau in 02N – my samples of primer and foundation came in and I really like them. I like the scent and lightness of the primer and the foundation goes on smoothly. It’s a touch light at first but seems to melt or blend or something and it becomes a perfect match. Beatiful skin-like finish and light enough that I don’t feel it on my face. I’m going to call the counter manager that sent me the samples and order the primer and foundation from her so she can get the sale.
Viseart”s newest shimmer palette (can’t remember the name)
Tom Ford blush Flush
Giorgio Armani eye tint Silver Mirage 18 (if it ever is back in stock!)
Giorgio Armani Fluid Master Primer – thinking of trying this to use with my GA LSUVF. I want to try use the same brand foundation and primer for a while.

Weekend plans: Take out tonight and just relaxing, re-couping from the week. Saturday maybe a few masks in the morning while I do laundry and pick up the house. A late lunch with my best friend, possibly. Sunday brunch and cooking for the week. We’re calling in landscapers to finish the backyard. I’m over it and need to see it finished. Work has picked up and weekends are all about relaxing and prepping for the work week now. All the yard prep we’ve done thus far will be for naught if we don’t continue with the lawn and sprinkler overhaul, so we’re bringing in the professionals.

What are you reading?: I’ve got a few books going, all of them urban fantasy. If I’m not reading here and there, I’m listening to any one of them while I’m cooking or tidying up or toodling around town, running errands. I also follow a few cooking/recipe blogs, a celebrity gossip blog and Temptalia.

So glad to hear Lingerie de Peau is working so well for you πŸ™‚

I think Cranberry will work nicely with the Chanel quad. You can also try mixing it with a little plum or black to deepen it!

Haul: Bobbi Brown Retouching Wand. I have 2 Chanel eyeshadow palettes, BrulΓ© cream shadow, and 2 Chanel eyeliners awaiting me at home. Ordered Estee x VB Modern Mercury highlighter, also in transit.

Weekend Plans: I’m visiting family out of town until Sunday (boo). It’s been a great week but I’ve also developed quite a cold.

Reading: Always Looking Up by Michael J. Fox.

How is the Retouching Wand, Tracey?

So annoyed… none of my Estee Lauder x VB orders shipped, despite spending $20 to overnight πŸ™ I’ve spent 2 hours on the phone thus far. Good to hear at least one person’s order is actually in transit!!

Haul: this and that. Nothing big
Mellan looks likes he’s up to a con
Weekend plan: fall purging and cleaning. AKA torture.
Reading: Just finished a current terrorist suspense novel. Had me on the edge of my seat but horrifying. I can’t recommend it. Too diabolical.

Haul, 5 single eyeshadows and a mascara from H&M just to try. They all performed a lot better than I had thought. As they are quite cheap I got some, for me unusual colours, and a very predictable one. Not much of a haul, really. πŸ™‚
Weekend plans. Haning with my son, and then drive him to the airport, he moved last week to go th a university some 500 km away.
Reading, nothing, at the moment. I like sewing and knitting, so the last book I read was a sewing one.

Mellan is gorgeous, as always. He looks a perfect gentleman.
