Free for Haul Friday, Volume #347
Share any beauty goodies you may have picked up in the last week or so, or maybe what’s on your way or on your wish list for next week or month. 🙂
- Haul: Wayne Goss Air-Brush, Smith Cosmetics Smithfolilo and 2x small Laydown Brushes, 1x Large Laydown Brush, Anastasia Butterscotch Lipgloss, Bobbi Brown Telluride Highlighter
- Weekend plans: I have a lot of things I’d like to swatch/photograph! My family will be visiting me sometime in July, so I want to try and frontload some of the work so I can spend more of the time with them.
- If you could thank one person today, who would it be and why?: The older I get, the more often I want to thank my parents for giving me such a great foundation to build off of, both in terms of things like ethics and moral ground but also just in terms of opportunities and supporting/acknowledging unconventional skills during childhood, teenage years, and now in adulthood.
Share your pet photos to the Temptalia Pets flickr group! 🙂
Oh, you bought the Air Brush? I’ve been really on the fence but I just don’t know if I would use that shape much. So excited for the 14 to be back though – it’s in my cart for when we get back from CA!
Haul: Took advantage of Sigma’s 30% off sale to overhaul my not-so-great eye brush collection. Also, my Babyliss Pro hairdryer died after only 2.5 years (grrr) so I”m replacing it with an Elchim 3900.
Weekend plans: Comforting my panicking dogs, lol! They are not good with the fireworks. Plus packing as we are headed to NorCal for the wedding and other adventures on Tuesday. Going to get a manicure for the trip (which I never do) – trying to decide between just a gel coat on my short nails or going for gel tips. I am open to recommendations!!
If you could thank one person today, who would it be and why?: My husband, and I can so I will! He is an awesome partner and together we have built a nice, comfy and fun little life so I am very thankful for him.
I bought it to review 🙂
Safe and happy travels to NorCal!
Julia, my Air Brush was just delivered. It’s even softer than the other Goss brushes I have. I tried it (with no product) just to see what it will do and bc of the softness, it’s easily adaptable to blush, highlighter, and bronzer. Curious to see what Christine thinks. I may order another one…not sure yet. I’m also considering picking up a few more Sigma’s (eye ones) while the sale is on and to use my Drugstore Dollars.
Fancy dinner dress? <3

Weekend plans: Mani/Pedi, Shopping with my daughter, Picking up some freebies from Ulta that I got coupons for, Unsure about the 4th – probably some days events…I can't go anywhere at night bc in the past my idiot neighbors used illegal fireworks and set fire to the woods behind my house. Now I'm afraid to go anywhere on the holiday evening bc I'm afraid I'll come home and my house will be burnt down!
If you could thank one person today, who would it be and why?: My Dad who passed away when I was in law school. He taught me everything that I needed to know to be a healthy, stable, happy adult. All of my core values come from him. I was too young when he passed and never had the chance to tell him.
What a great haul, Michele! Hope you find some new HGs there 🙂
I’m sorry to hear that your dad passed early, but I am sure he knew how much he meant to you!
Thanks so much Christine!
I love reading your hauls!
Pearl, Oh, thanks! If you have any product questions, bc I know I buy brands Christine doesn’t, feel free to ask. I love how we can all collab. on different products – I’ve gotten some great bonus tips from other readers (in addition to the amazing stuff Christine does!)
Will do Michele, thank you!
Pls review the urban gray on your blog..only one tat really appeals to me.
kjh, Not doing blog at the moment. But I did go ahead and post the swatches for you on my Instagram and Twitter this morning (@Binxcat4ever). Like the Black and White Tones, Urban Grey swatches differently than they look in pan. (The other palette applied closer to pan to we’ll see later.) I’m actually using them today so I can report back on them for you later today or tomorrow.
LOL, I love the pic of your cat with Pinot Meow !
Thanks. Kind of thought so. My idea of Twitter: Massdot (dept of transportation) to see when a bridge that gets in the way of my commute is up. Def will CIO, if I don’t have to join. I like IG bec you can cruise without joining.
kjh, Urban Grey was of the same quality as Black and White Tones. All shades were creamy, easy to blend, and well-pigmented. I created an eye look with every shade in the palette and also posted it (although the sun was blinding so the pic isn’t super). The shadows lasted all day without creasing or fading – over the MAC eye primer. When I removed my eye makeup at night, I did notice some very fine glitter (more like sparkle) from the lightest shade; although there was no fall out during wear or on application. If I had to pick only 1 palette between the 2 I now have, I would pick Urban Grey. The shades work a bit better for transitioning and I really liked the lightest shade as I felt it worked better as a highlighter in the corners of my eyes and under the brow bone. The shades have a slight plummy undertone and I feel it gives them a bit more dimension.
Haul: a season beach pass 🙂
Weekend: cape cod with the fam
Thanks: Among the many million things my mom has done, she taught me how to read. Reflecting on all my teachers, sadly the majority of them were poor instructors. From being scolded all the time, being told to sit down and be silent, and otherwise intimidated, my early teachers were old and burned out. They made school a terrifying and daunting task. It wasn’t until I graduated high school that I was able to get over my intense shyness in school.
I’m a kindergarten teacher now, so I have a professional opinion to back up my assessment on my old, cranky teachers. I teach children how to read, just like how my mom taught me- with patience, kindness, love, and lots of little tricks that help the brain grow. Maybe in this vein, I’ll thank all those mean teachers that terrified me into “learning” for showing me what NOT to do in my classroom.
Good on you for teaching with patience, kindness, and love, Sarah 🙂 A good teacher in a child’s (or teenager or adult) life can change their life entirely!
We need more committed teachers like you!
I agree with you Sarah – a lot my primary teachers were really poor instructors with large classrooms to manage. When I became a teacher myself, kindness and respect was the order of the day. One of the things I am proud of is showing children how fun and interesting mathematics can be – as many had such a negative attitude to the subject. It is rewarding when I have met my former students and they tell me they are majoring in maths.
I should also say, how lucky your students are to have you as their teacher. I hope my grand children have someone like you to teach them.
Haul: Jo Malone Blush Peony and Suede fragrance and body cream, Tweezerman tweezers, Shiseido blotting papers, and MAC 24 hour eyeshadow primer.
Weekend plans: Smoking ribs for the 4th!
Thank: Two people who changed my life: the social worker who put me into my first college class when I was a 20-year-old single mother with two young children (I didn’t think I was smart enough to go to college and she said nonsense), and my husband of 26 years who took on an instant family when he married me and adopted my two children. These two people dramatically altered the course of my life.
Ooh, smoked ribs! That sounds delicious 🙂
You have had some very special, life-changing people in your life! – that is so awesome to hear 🙂
Wonderful. All you needed was the self confidence, and that SW helped you get it.
Tammy, for the 20% Ulta Platinum discount, you can only use once, although I’ve heard sometimes people have managed to use twice, maybe because the computer didn’t catch it. I wish it was like Sephora, where you can use the 15% or 20% off for multiple purchases until the sale ends, but hey, I love a good sale
Oh yes, that’s me too during dinner time! LOL
**Caught some great 25-35% off sales/cash back deals. Laura Mercier highlighter in Addiction– sadly, I have to exchange due to defect. I opened it, and the entire highlighter fell out and rolled around the floor! It was totally loose, not even attached to the pan 🙁 It’s definitely a very shimmery but pretty one, will exchange at Nordstroms this weekend. Laura Geller Baked Gelato Blush in Cantaloupe – I waffled back and forth on this one for about a year, but after noticing it was disappearing everywhere ( being DC’d???), I finally got it. The initial swatch on the hand was very “meh”, and I had to pack the light color onto my cheeks (I’m light/light med), but wowzeee! The color is stunning, very natural light apricot flush, kind of peachier version of Spring Flock. Love! And a backup of SuperGoop City Serum sunscreen SPF 30
** Will go to some fun festivals for July 4th, eat some BBQ foods, maybe go to a chili cookoff contest
**Thanks to my parents for working so hard when I was young, to make sure us 4 kids got a better education, more opportunities, a better life. They owned their own business, and for decades, they would routinely work 12-14 hrs a day, 7 days a week, with only time off for Christmas and the rare vacation.
OH my goodness!! The highlighter just fell out? Oh no! Thank goodness Nordstrom has a good return policy!
And my City Color Shimmer Shadows came this afternoon! Super impressed with how fast it came. I ordered on Tues night, they shipped it out Weds morning, and it came on Friday afternoon. Granted, I do live in CA where they are, but still ! And everything was triple wrapped. And LOVE the new colors – Gypsy, U-Jelly, Tide Pool, and Evergreen. I also got their new Photo Chic Precision Shadow brush –haven’t tried it yet, but it looks like a copy cat of my Real Techniques precision shadow brush. I have small eyes, not a lot of lid area, and it looks like the perfect size to pack on shadow onto my crease and outer V. I did get 30% off, but I didn’t see your 45% off deal until a couple of days ago. Oh well, still a great deal!
I think that just started on the 30th or the 1st, so it did come after (I believe it’s for the 4th of July!). At least they start off cheap, so it’s not TOO bad!
xoxo for the handsome Mellan from me and the boys. Have a beautiful weekend Christine.
Our best to you and your boys, Lily!
My Wayne Goss Air-Brush should be arriving today, along with a mini Colourpop haul to try the Dopey and TooLips Ultra Satin Lips since you gave them such a glowing review! I am so excited for this weekend and to try this brush! I have been looking for something to buff out a strong cheek highlight and I think this will do the trick nicely! $35 dollars for squirrel hair that wasn’t laser-cut? I’m intrigued! This will be my first foray into Wayne’s brushes and I am glad it’s at least a slightly economical purchase, all things considered!
Mine, too, I think! 🙂 Can’t wait for you to get your new brush.
UDPATE: It just came in and I am DYING!!! The bristles are so soft and have a fair amount of give, but when you apply pressure the bristles don’t splay. They maintain such gorgeous unity to really create the “buffing” effect Wayne is referring to. I am floored at the quality of this brush, especially considering the reasonable price point! I can’t wait to read your insightful review!
YAY! So happy to hear it!
I agree with your thoughts about the Air Brush – I’m so excited to start using this!
Haul: Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in Hitch Hike. Just got it yesterday. Saw a swatch of this on your site, no hesitation, went and ordered it. It was out of stock on Sephora and Ulta, so I hopped on beauty.com, ordered my facewash and face toner on drugstore.com and this lipstick on beauty.com, shipped together. SO HAPPY I DID.
Weekend Plans: Go see a movie, and 4th of July Carnival.
Thank one person, and why: My dad. I used to have really low self esteem, and when I was young I freaked out about college, and had the worst anxiety attack of ever. He said, Lacey, there are going to be people and things that beat you up in life, why beat yourself up? and he gave me a big bear hug. It has stuck with me in my adult life and gotten me through a lot.
What movie do you think you’ll see, Lacey?
Happy to hear you are digging Hitch Hike!
I am hoping to go see Swiss Army Man with harry potter haha.
Haul: I actually just placed a Target order with a blender and some Pixi stuff. I got the Glow Mud Cleanser, Overnight Glow Serum, and the new pre-soaked Glow Tonic Pads. I meant to get the balm cleanser too and some Sonia Kashuk stuff but I got distracted and then checked out… I tried to call back to add stuff to my order but Target had the worst phone tree and I hung up.
Weekend Plans: I’m still sick so other than revving up my iron intake, nothing really. It’s my husbands birthday on the 4th and I’m not able to do anything for him cause he’s away. Keeping the pets safe and sane during all the festivities is probably my only plan. Sleep, if it counts! I’ll be getting in naps for sure.
Thankfulness: I guess just my husband, not for his service per se, but his willingness to serve.
Hope you like the new Pixi stuff you got! 🙂
Can you write your husband a letter maybe?
Oh Target’s phone system is the worst! Maybe a second order will still get free shipping?
Hope you feel better soon!
Loved your Anthropologie post. I always forget about them bc we don’t have one near here. I wanted the first bracelet you pic’d but it was sold out by the time I got to the site.
Won’t you Skype with him? One of my therapist friends was in the NG, and a little military-connected birdie told her she should move her wedding from October to February. They had one day to spare before he got called up, and by the time he got home, she had been deployed. OMG, how else but the military do you see your spouse for one day in a year and a half of marriage? Bad. We know it’s very hard for you.
My local Boots finally has Nyx which means that I bought a bunch of stuff to try. I’m really liking the Soft Matte Lip Creams and especially the Intense Butter Glosses. I applied Spice Cake on the go and I was surprised at how fuss free it was – went on very neatly and smoothly and stayed put for a long time too. I wish they had a bigger colour range.
YAY for NYX! So glad you can check the brand out in-store!
My foray into Tom Ford Blush – Love Lust. Funny story – I have a bad bathroom mirror, so I put on Love Lust and thought, meh, what’s the big deal – looks just like Nars Orgasm, so it’s going back. Got in the car, checked my makeup in the mirror and went “WOAHHHHHHHHH! This is why Temptalia says it’s her go-to blush!” LMAO!
YAYYY! I feel like it is a much warmer take on the idea of pink-peach… almost more like peach-coral, I guess (Love Lust runs warmer/rustier on me than Orgasm!). I hope you keep loving it, lol!
Alright that tears it. I’ve been on the fence for a year about this blush. It’s going in the cart.
Haul: Ordered some stuff from Japan but it won’t arrive until mid July, so yeah, patiently waiting 🙂
Weekend plans: Relax and enjoy our last free weekend.
If you could thank one person today, who would it be and why?: Same here on the parents thing, I feel the same way. So thank you mommy and daddy.
Enjoy your weekend!
Skincare?
And make-up 🙂
Is it harder to get J beauty in Europe than in the states? Do you use a buying service, order from a multibrand int’l site, or direct from the co? This is very interesting to me. Fell down that rabbit hole pretty hard; just beginning to come to my senses.
I picked up some really great products when I was in Japan (got back in April) and I’ve been looking for a webshop that stocks them AND ships here for three months, so yeah, it’s though. I used WellFia, I hope it’s reliable.
Haul: Nothing! But that might change later today due to the 20% off at Ulta. I’m not getting much, though… Probably one or two of the UD lipsticks I’ve had my eye on and some makeup remover. I have to save for something important, so this will probably be my last makeup purchase for a good while (other than replenishing everyday items when I run out).
Weekend plans: Chilling, relaxing. And laundry. Always laundry.
Who I’d like to thank: My mom. I’ve been going through some difficult times in the past couple of years, and even though we don’t live in the same area, she’s always been there to listen.
I’m trying to decide what to get from Ulta this weekend myself! Which UD lipsticks do you have your eye on?
I’m almost definitely getting Snitch since it’s apparently the one pinky coral shade on the planet I can pull off, and it’s perfect for this time of year. Conspiracy is another one of my favorites. I’m also thinking about getting the blue shade (Heroine?) since non-traditional colors are not well-represented in my stash.
I’d really rather have Junkie than Heroine, but unfortunately, that’s a Sephora exclusive. ?
As of now, I do have a haul. I ordered UD Snitch (because I love it so much that I’m almost out of the sample in my 24-shade UD sample pack Ulta sent), UD 714 (in the Gwen Stefani packaging, which was around $9), and some everyday items I need anyway like makeup remover and cotton rounds.
I did order some unconventional lipstick colors, but decided to go with cheaper options since non-traditional lipstick shades are the one type of makeup that I haven’t yet had the guts to try to pull off, and I want to make sure it’s something I’m comfortable with before I buy anything in the mid to high-end price range.
This is what I ended up with:
-NYX Wicked Lippies in Risque (shimmery green) and Trickery (golden olive green). Risque appears to be close enough to UD Junkie, which I really wanted after swatching it in Sephora.
-NYX Liquid Suede in Stone Fox (dark gray)
-NYX Matte Lip Cream in Havana (appears to be a lapis blue color)
-J. Cat Beauty lipstick in #MOTD (appears to be a sparkly purplish shade…this is one that I don’t necessarily consider “unconventional”, though)
I think that’s a decent representative sample of the kinds of unconventional shades I want to try. (I remain leery of anything white-based or pastel and will probably never try lipsticks in those shades.)
I love that UD did these massive sampler packs! I feel like that’s a good way to try a few shades without having to purchase them!
Oh man, it’s amazing how well pets learn the sounds of food being prepared!
Haul: Becca x Jaclyn Hill Champagne Pop Poured Creme
SEPHORA FAVORITES Lashstash To Go set
BUXOM Luxe Lids & Lashes set
LAURA MERCIER Matte Radiance Powder in Bronze 2
LAURA MERCIER Secret Brightening Powder
Ordered five of the new Buxom metallic eyeshadows, plus Designer or Die (the metallic bronze is sold out.)
Ordered all of the new Giorgio Armani eye tints! That was a bit of an impulse, but the colors are described as matte and smoky, so I am very intrigued.
Used my 20% off Ulta coupon: the whole Tony Moly banana skincare line. I love the cream cleanser. But I don’t know how I feel yet about the other products. They smell really good though.
Urban Decay Vice lipsticks in Rapture and Gash
Pacifica skincare – cleanser and moisturizer
Fairy Tales swim shampoo
butter London Pretty Proper Clutch Palette
Soap & Glory bodywash
Sally Hansen gel polish in two shades of red
Almay Age Essentials lip balm
Weekend plans: Haircut and color, going to to the County Fair, touring my sister-in-law’s new house and meeting her boyfriend, probably walking down to the corner and watching fireworks 🙂
If you could thank one person today, who would it be and why?: Well, I thank my husband all the time for everything he does for me. I would thank him for being such a wonderful husband and person. I love him very much; he’s really my better half.
Lots of great goodies there, PTeetsa! Which products are you most excited to try?
I’m pretty excited about the eye tints, but also the Champagne Pop highlighter is very pretty. And I’m interested to try the different mascara minis.
Oooh, Pteetsa, can you let me know how you like the new matte Eye Tints from Giorgio Armani? I have like 4 of the originals, and they are quite metallic/shimmery, but love how crease resistant they are on my oily lids, so would love to add some matte ones to my stash.
Pteesa, were you able to use the Ulta 20% off on your UD Vice lipsticks? Because I want to head up to a local one today and buy 2 or 3!
Nancy, I think you meant to ask Pteetsa, but you replied to me instead. But if you’re talking about the 20% off for Platinum Members, it’s good on even prestige brands, so you should be able to use on everything, including the UD Vice lippies. I didn’t buy any UD Vice lippies this time, but the 20% did work on everything. Happy hauling!
It landed further down the thread than I thought it would! I actually wrote the reply to Pteesa’s comment right under hers, but sometimes comments land further down for some odd reason? LoL! I need to get to Ulta and haul like a madwoman!
Does anyone know if we can use the Ulta 20% off twice if we do one purchase online and the second in store?
Ooh, I’m curious about this, too. I think I was able to do that one year!
Hi, Nancy. Katherine beat me to it, but I was able to use the 20% on everything I bought. I think the only exclusions are Clinique and Lancome.
Hey Pteesa, I’m on the bus heading to one up north from me as I type this! They are holding Pandemonium, Violate and Trance for me, I can hardly wait to try them on!
All nice colors! I especially like Trance. Have fun hauling! 🙂
Yes, thanks for pointing that out! I keep forgetting Clinique and Lancome are excluded from discount. Bummer, but hey, there’s like a 100 other brands that I can buy from 🙂
I will definitely let you know how they are! I couldn’t find any info on them, not even swatches, so it was a total blind buy. Stay tuned! 🙂
I saw the colors yesterday; they’re going to be a tough sell and I love Armani everything. The colors are very warm, brown and in my opinion muddy looking. I’m a hard pass and I own 8-10 of the current line up of shadows. It’s unfortunate.
Oh no! Thanks for heads up, I will definitely wait for Pteetsa’s thoughts and google for swatches before making a decision
I hope they work better for you. It kills me that I don’t love them.
Ditto oh no! Warm and brown are ok, but muddy is not! Well, I guess I’ll see how they are when I get them. Luckily, I ordered from Nordstrom, who is really nice about returns!
Hi, Katherine. I don’t know if you will see this reply or if it’s too late. I’ll try to comment somewhere else, too, so you will see it. Anyway, I got all six colors of the new Armani matte eye tints, and they are horrible. Don’t waste your money! Like Lea said, they are all muddy. They are ugly browns, too, in my opinion, with weird tinges of maroon or gray or khaki. That makes them sound cool, but don’t be fooled. The only usable color was Nude Smoke, which was pretty decent, and might be useful for a base or transition color. They don’t blend well, unless you want to do an editorial-style smoky eye. I tried Nude and Leather. As the day went on, they felt uncomfortably dry on my eyelids. I already returned them. Anyway, that’s my conclusion. Ymmv, of course. Hope that helps! 🙂
HAUL : Clarins Radiance Glow Booster (something really long name lol). It’s a fake-tan oil that you mix a few drops in to whatever lotion you want and apply. Works pretty well! After one application it was just a little glowy, and after two applications (two days in a row) I have a pretty good tint going. It looks pretty natural I think, not too orange and definitely not too brown. I am very fair with yellowy tones so I think it’s a good color for me. Someone more on the other side of Medium might not see much difference. It applies pretty evenly, no streaks whatsoever and I only see slight gathering of the pigment around my ankle bones, but I don’t think other people would notice. I will probably do another coat tomorrow or Sunday, and then after that I’ll be interested to see how long/well it lasts.
WEEKEND: I have a BBQ or pool party every day this weekend. Hence the fake tan. Heat’s supposed to be in the 90’s and I didn’t want to have to worry about looking pasty or wearing makeup that melts/prevents me from reapplying sunscreen. The tint really evened out the skin on my face and neck where I am normally all different colors and splotchy.
LOL! Clarins’ product names are always REALLY long!!
It must be so nice to find a good self-tanner/fake-tanner for the face! I feel like that is hard to find sometimes.
Haul: the B-Hydra gel moisturizer from Drunk Elephant. I ordered it from Dermstore, it came 2 days later, and the pump doesn’t work 🙁 Pretty disappointed here, but Dermstore is sending me another one. Hopefully the pump is functional this time!
Weekend plans: trip to the Bay Area! I hope the TSA lines at the airport are not too crazy tonight…
Who I want to thank: my hubby because he’s very patient and goes along with almost anything. I realize that I rely on him a lot.
Oh no! Fingers crossed the pump works this time around. At least they’re resending!
Hope you can put the working pump on the old bottle and get a two-fer. At DE prices, that would be turning a mess into a windfall. That line is always so well reviewed. Even Paula gives the five stars.
Haul: Nada, pick up the UD Weirdo and Unicorn lipsticks last Friday. 🙂
Weekend plans: Canada Day so I’m doing nothing!
If you could thank one person today, who would it be and why?: My Nana for being such a compassionate soul.
Enjoy your relaxing weekend!
Hi Mellan! Happy chow time handsome!
Haul: A mixed bag. Bought some premium things and then decided to buy some budget brands I’ve never tried before. Wayne Goss airbrush x 2, Anastasia glow kits, BB Telluride highlight/bronzer powder, BH cosmetics eyeshadow palettes: foiled and carli bybel, violet voss holy grail palette.
Weekend plans: Happy Canada Day! We actually took a mini vacay day to the beach with the dogs yesterday to keep out of the heavy traffic and people. Downside: this weekend I really need to tackle the house and laundry. Sigh.
Person I would thank: There really is no one single person. I have found inspiration from many individuals, even perfect strangers in a flash of a shared moment, but also in my relationships with animals and mother nature.
Happy Canada Day! 🙂 Glad you were able to get some time at the beach with the dogs this week!
Haul – this is going to be a long one…
NYX – lip butters in creme brulee and angel food cake (finally some stores in VA area, so I get to see what the fuss is about)
Sephora – new Shiseido eyelash curler (I never use these, but will start trying to work it into my am routine), Benefit Gimme Brow #3 (lovely and better color than the original two shades they brought out), Bite Beauty lip gloss in Currant (hoping it might be a dupe for my discontinued Armani gloss), Urban Decay lipstick in Sheer Rapture, UD lip pencils in Ladyflower, Rush and Peyote. Sephora Collection shadows in Flirting Game, Romantic Comedy, Morning Freshness, Midnight Madness, Grey Obsession, Don’t Get me Wrong, Tahitian Pearl, Swell, June Gloom, Bubble Shower, Safari, Lazy Afternoon, Faux Fur Jacket, and Dying for Shoes to go in a new double sided Z Palette. I also go two MUFE shadows in ME108 and ME554 and a mini Benefit Rollerlash to try out.
Nordstrom – neuLASH enhancing lash serum, Tom Ford Bronzing Primer, Illuminating primer, and Patent Finish lip color in Red Corset, Burberry lip gloss in Rose Blush (89) and Eye Shadow stick in Dusky Mauve (116), Armani Rouge D’Armani in 503 and eyeliner in 05 plum, Chantecaille shadow in Marble, and Deborah Lippman nail polish in I Feel Pretty (Nordstrom exclusive).
Charlotte Tilbury – Hot Lips in Secret Salma (should be arriving today).
Inglot – bought another 10 shades w/freedom palette. I think this will max me out for shadows for quite some time! I was making an effort to get more mattes in my repertoire and yet still end up with shimmers!
Last by not least Tom Ford – I pre-ordered the Velvet Orchid shadow and gold Nightbloom powder. Hoping to get my hands on the pink one, but we’ll see what my SA can do. I’m also drooling over the fall items starting to show up on the very clued in Tom Ford blogs. Worth the hunt!
Weekend Plans – reorganizing my bathroom closet to make room for the above and to get rid of some items I haven’t used in some time. Maybe a bit of cleaning while hubby is on a golf trip and then some relaxing. I may even head out to the course myself!
Thanks – I think I would choose to echo another comment and thank those who serve, in the military as well as in the fire and police departments. As the wife of a fireman, I know the things they see and the people they deal with; these men and women (in all military and paramilitary professions) deserved to be thanked and appreciated for what they do.
I am terrible at remembering to curl my lashes, Lea! Let me know if you have any tips for remembering to incorporate it into one’s routine 😉
Those Tom Ford powders seem to be going quickly!
Will do, I’m open to all suggestions!!
Lea, can you let me where you were able to pre-order the Tom Ford Velvet Bloom makeup collection? Thanks!
I got mine direct from Tom Ford. I haven’t seen it show up on any of the major department stores yet. The powders, particularly the pink, sold out within 24 hours so be ready to move fast or put in a heads up with any relationships you have at department stores. I’ll be doing that at Neimans and Nordstrom. I’m a little worried the gold is going to be too strong for my fair/college skin tone. Hoping a light hand gets it done happy hunting!
Thanks for the info!
Haul: I’m on a budget so no makeup for a few weeks but that CL Lip Lacquer is calling my name. I really only want it because it’s beautiful, I doubt I will even use it but it will be my bday present to myself. Also I’m a Henri Bendel nut so snagging a bag on sale is a must!
•Weekend plans: NONE! Both of my bosses are gone from today until the 11th so I took PTO for next week and will come back on the 11th. My plans include doing absolutely nothing; relaxing, working on my novel, playing in makeup, taking hikes in the woods and sitting by the river and going to the gym.
•If you could thank one person today, who would it be and why?: My grandmother. She told me about 5 months before I got pregnant (14yrs ago) that I was going to be the next one to get pregnant because, “You need someone to love.” and sure enough, having my son taught me how to love, how to understand love and feel loved. I’d thank her for being what grandmothers are; always right! She passed two years ago.
Enjoy your time off, Mo! I bet it will be nice 🙂
Yep! When our furbabies *know* food is coming, they get all excited! As long as Mellan doesn’t get a serious case of the “wild woolies” as I call them, then you’ll be fine…my BIG kitty tears around here like madcat when he *knows* !
Haul: To be updated after I go shopping later today!
Weekend plans: Same old, same old here. Hair, nails (which I’ve been super lax with, 2-3 weeks of just pedi’s and only nail treatment and hardener on fingernails), meeting on Sunday, food shopping.
If you could thank just one person today, who would it be and why: Hmm…probably my Mom. I know I’ve written of her positive qualities and the ways in which she strongly influenced my sense of fairness and justice, and taught me some cool skills like sewing, too. But, she was no saint, either, in some other areas of how she lived her life or treated me and others at times! She taught me how to be strong by her being weaker willed and lacking self control. She conversely had a positive influence on me by being a role model in areas of social justice, racial equality and doing the right thing even if that was the hard thing. She has had a far stronger influence on me than I ever acknowledged or comprehended until she died 9 years ago. Plus, she never completely gave up on me, even when she probably ought to have.
It’s really cool that you can see your mom for who she is – both positive and negative – because I think that most of us are like that; we have good traits, but we are definitely not perfect! Being able to see that I think helps us appreciate people for who they are.
I think that’s where I get my sometimes annoying trait of being very objective, always seeing the various layers of “gray”, instead of just black and what. Because no human being alive is perfect. Or 100% evil, either.
It’s cool to see the gray, but man, it makes for some challenges sometimes, LOL! It is hard to pick sides or even not argue the other position!
Yep, it is challenging! And even though I see people through a more objective lenses, I do take issue with their actions. Because some things are inarguably evil or wrong. Others are praiseworthy. And some people’s inner core is pale silver gray, others are deepest, dark as night charcoal!
Gray is my favorite shade with e/s, contour, and people.
Yes, I went to Ulta! Got UD Pandemonium lipstick and matching lip liner, Cruel and Violate lipsticks, too. Also, went to Sehora to try and buy Tarte Seduce Blush and Buxom’s new eyeshadows, but they weren’t in yet, so I hit Albertson’s for food, and of course I wound up in the cosmetic aisle! Bought Milani Romantic Rose blush. It is the perfect rosy- nude shade for me! ?
Nancy, can you let me know if the Pandemonium lip liner improves the performance of Pandemonium? And is it a good color match? I’m eyeing them. And another fan of the Milani Rose Blushes –I have Blossom Rose and Awakening Rose, both are really pretty, and each pan will last me like 3 life times!
Hi Katherine, I wore the Pandemonium combo last night. The pencil definitely helps, BUT I still had to do a slight bit of smoothing the lipstick out with my finger. Not sure that my putting MAC Prep & Prime on underneath was such a smart idea, though, as it can make some matte lipsticks tug due P&P’s stickiness once it sets. Going to try Pandemonium w/o primer to see if it goes on easier w/o it. Sometimes, I use plain ol’ ChapStick as a matte lipstick primer, just a *teensy* amount, though.
Yes, they DO match eachother very nicely, Katherine! HTH ?
Thanks for the info Nancy! I’m still trying to decide between 3 or 4 purple lippies that are similar in color, but it’s great to know the Pandemonium lip liner matches the lipstick very well. Since all of these lippies need a lip liner to make them work, I’m tilting towards Pandemonium, but we’ll see….
Handsome as ever, Mellan!

Weekend plans: It was going to be finishing up prepping the backyard for our new grass but the sod cutter broke so we are going to get another one after the 4th of July. So now it’s just the usual end of the week cleaning/tidying up, cooking for the week and staying in – the fireworks that will invariably start happening tonight and continue until next week are going to spook the cats and dog for a few days so we will stay home. I would love to go out swatching and shopping and have lunch with my girlfriends but lately the weekend crowds are just too much. Maybe I’ll have a potluck brunch on Sunday or Monday, not sure.
If you could thank one person today, who would it be and why? My fiance. He’s my favorite person to be around, to listen to, to do things for. He’s just an all around kind, good man and he’s never changed. I’d thank him for his kindness, his patience, his selective forgetfulness and his long-view perspective. I’ve always said that I’m the responsible one, but he’s the adult (ha!).
The Air Brush is crazy soft! I was skeptical at the price point, but I think it fits nicely with the range. Hope they make it permanent, though!
Love Dragonfruit!
Haul: MUFE artisan medium highligher brush (I’m beyond impressed with this one!)
Marc Jacobs Sugar Sugar lip gloss (I managed to snag it when it came back in stock for 1 day, already went out of stock even as my order was processing)
Dolce & Gabbana Pour Femme travel spray. <3
Weekend plans: Eating good food, drinking good drinks, and relaxing!
Had a dream last night about one of my college friends, and spent a lot of time this morning thinking about how she positively influenced me during that time.
Do you use the MUFE brush for highlighting, Ashleigh? (You never know! I use brushes for other purposes than they are named for, lol!)
Hi Christine,
I’ve tried it for highlighter, foundation, and blush so far. I was hoping it would double as a foundation brush because it’s the size I like, but the bristles weren’t dense enough I think. For blush it didn’t work well with my cream to powder formulas, but fine with powder formulas. I’ve been using it this week for just highlighting, and I think it really works well to diffuse intense highlighers and help them not emphasize pores. 🙂 Also I peeked at your review, and I didn’t experience the coating on my bristles that you did. Bummer about that!
Very nice! I am so glad you are enjoying it 😀
I wasn’t going to get anything this week but my mom “borrowed” a sample of some product Sephora had sent me and then she insisted I get it for her (this tipped me over to VIB, thanks mom). Since I was already placing an order, I got a new MUFE eyeshadow brush and a Sephora eyeshadow (Be On the A-List). I’ve only just got them yesterday so no real opinions yet but I like the brush, I think!
I think I will be going to a minor league baseball game this weekend – that’s it! I look forward to not doing anything else.
Lately I have really appreciated my dad, who died quite suddenly of an undiagnosed cancer a little over a year ago. It’s been a difficult time since. There are so many things – little and big – that I’ve wished I could say to him since.
To not end on a depressing note, I would actually like OPINIONS from everyone. My mom gave me a $50 gift card to Target to thank me for watching her dog while she was out of town. For once I can’t really think of anything I need at Target, so I’m thinking of just splurging on some makeup. I usually don’t get drugstore makeup – not because I am snobby, really, but because I like to try it first/get advice from salespeople. I have not had great luck just buying things without trying them out first. But since I am not paying for it, I feel a little freer with experimenting. I would like people’s opinions on what I should get at Target! I’m a white person, fair, have blue/green eyes, and usually like warm tones. I’m always in search of the perfect berry lip shade but I also love corals. The only thing I really don’t need is eyebrow product – I was “blessed” with thick dark eyebrows that would grow all over my face if I let them. Anything else I am interested in at least trying.
I am sorry to hear about the loss of your ad, Thirteen! 🙁
Which MUFE eyeshadow brush is it, by the way? Are you using it for powder or creams?
I hear a lot of great things about Pixi Beauty, which I think may be nearly exclusive to Target. They aren’t truly drugstore, but that might be a good mid-way point between high-end and drugstore!
But otherwise, I love Maybelline ColorSensational Lipsticks–as long as the scent doesn’t bother you! Wet ‘n’ Wild Reserve Your Cabana is lovely (can’t remember if they’re carried at Target…). NYX might be at your local Target, so you could also look at their range!
Sonia Kashuk has really good stuff, and so does Nyx.
My vote is for NYX and Maybelline lippies. I don’t know if your Target has been upgraded, but mine now has a Beauty Advisor/Salesperson walking around the aisles to help customers out, and there are a lot more makeup testers available. But if not, they do have a decent return policy –per website, most opened beauty products can be returned within 90 days with receipt
What they said for m/u, esp Mayb loaded bolds, if you like ’em. But, if you want to do skincare, I read that T has some Laneige, like the water sleeping pack that is a blogger darling. K beauty at Target: you’ve come a long way, baby.
Haul: a lot of Mac Backups from Brooke Candy and Chris Chang LE (doowoop and ddddevilish), Mac honeylove, finally free lipsticks, the new urban Decay wired Lipstick, Mac fix + Spray, a Mac Mascara primer, lorac mega pro 2, 4 lime Crime Lipstick Backups (really cheap eBay Auction, in the Moment got many good things very cheap on eBay, People Save their Money for holidays I think, Mac riri her Cocoa Palette for only 14 Euros, Mac Speed dial, Mac capricious, Mac O Lipstick, dior Addict lip glow in coral, Those new Benefit matte rescue promer, some empty palettes and eyeshadow refills from Mac….
I am a Backup Junkie I think
Forgot Weekend Plans
Lying ill in bed since wednesday (maybe that is why i won so many eBay auctions). Even Could not go to work. Cannot remember the Last Time I Could not go to work. I am a Person bosses really like because I am Never ill When I have to work. Always get ill When I have some free days or a Long Weekend.
Oh no Kylie, hope you feel better soon!
Woohoo! Lots of new lipsticks for you to try there! 🙂
Haul:
– I got the Sephora SoKo to Tokyo favorites set, and the five items I picked (you pick 5 out of 13 items) were: Tatcha Polished Deep Rice Enzyme Powder, Shiseido Perfect Cleansing Oil, Dr.Jart+ Black Label Detox BB Beauty Balm, Erborian Ginseng Milk, and the Skin Inc. Pure Deepsea Hydrating Mask. Good way to try out a lot of east asian skincare!
– I also ordered the NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dolce Vita. I have a major thing for their Dolce Vita shade. It was a post-surgeon impulse buy though…
– I got my mom the big tube version (they now have one along with the jar version!) of the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream. I’m so glad she loves it because she takes no care whatsoever of her skin, so something all-in-one like this is perfect.
– I ordered a bunch of Tanya Burr Cosmetics stuff off Feel Unique, but they won’t come in for a few weeks. But they’re hella cheap right now, either because of a sale, or because the british pound is so weak, or both.
– I got three Jouer Long-Wear Lip Creme Liquid Lipsticks in the shades Cassis, Framboise and Petale De Rose, though Petale De Rose is out of stock and will ship later. Dermstore had 30% off so I figured it would be a good way to finally try them out, as I’m in Portland so they don’t have any counters nearby because this is a friggin’ podunk city…
Weekend plans: Hang out at home with movies and such (and maybe the new Sims 4 expansion pack) and keep the two kitties calm while all the fireworks go off. People already started yesterday and they are FREAKED OUT.
If you could thank one person today, who would it be and why?: I think these days with all the health stuff, I’m having trouble being thankful. But I guess I’d have to thank my dad for supporting me while I’ve been ill, even though I hate the fact that I have to be supported in the first place.
How cool that you can pick 5 of the 13 items yourself! I didn’t even notice that!
Ohhh, I am definitely going to get some of that SoKo to Tokyo kit! What a cool idea and a great value!
Haul — Laura Mercier baked bronzer blush; Laura Mercier lipstick in Dulce de leche; and her blush in Rose Bloom. I am really like LM these days. I also got the 500 point LM gift set from Sephora that has the invisible setting powder, which I have never tried and the Matte Radiance Baked Bronzer in 03. (I’m having a bronzer overload moment, but I’m figuring it out.)
Weekend — Finally celebrating my youngest son’s college graduation, my DIL’s masters degree at a party at our house, and a group of birthdays at a party at our house.
Thankful for that husband of mine. I think that man is one of the best human beings on the planet even after more than 30 years together.
Great haul, Linda! Hope you find a favorite bronzer 🙂
Congrats to your son!!
Congratulations on your son’s graduation! And I am also the wife of one of the best human beings on the planet; I have to say, these type of men just make life so much better❤️
I bet Mellon is interested in his dinner…..
Haul: Nothing as yet – I am going shopping this afternoon, so I might be tempted to pick up a few items.
Weekend plans: We are going out for lunch with my family – including the little ones to celebrate my younger son’s recent birthday up in the hills.
Thank a person: definitely my parents too – they are both deceased now, but they were very loving and caring people, who gave both my sister and I a great upbringing and were very involved in the local community.
Enjoy your family lunch, Genevieve! 🙂
Haul: hit S and wound up w/ 2 Gwen eyes for gifts, 2 store brand e/s, Pearl eye and face masks, seismic and oblivion. That’s restraint. But hauled Paula and Ulta last week. Zoeva finally came and I could barely contain myself. Taupe, cool palettes, the bamboo brush set and a few bamboo outliers. Then succumbed to WG: air, 00, and 12, which aren’t here yet. Can’t wait to do another Zoeva haul, now that I know how.
Plans: have my first Fri night off in 5 years, so am enjoying that. Night job the rest of the w/e and holiday. Playing w/ new goodies, getting sheet faced. (Bad AB pun), cleaning, changing the little tree from patriotic to summer theme, filling the dog pool, maybe the beach (5 min walk,) keeping Jussi calm…bad enough there will be f’works and f’crackers, but we have thunder now. He sits on my shoulder and threatens it loudly in my ear. He needs a little sibling. Maybe I’ll start that.
Thanks: primarily my parents, long gone. The more I see of others, the more I appreciate mine. No one disliked my father, literally, and my mum was smart, articulate. They approached childhood in a very engaged way that I now see as Montessori-esque. I became the person I determined to be, not what they wanted me to be. And that they raised an independent minded survivor, bec it got quite hairy at times. When I see parents sitting on their phones and not interacting with their kids, I want to kick the $@$&)); out of them. Hand the kid a tablet and go on Facebook. They have a wonderful gift and responsibility that they disregard. We always did things and interacted. I think I especially treasure that, because I never had a family. I thank a few professors for guidance, friends I have had for 50 years, and the incredible beauty of our natural world.
The Gwen Eyeshadow palette will be a nice gift to give!
I always forget about July 4th, since we don’t really do anything ourselves, and then you remind me I have to cross fingers and paws Mellan will handle it. Here’s hoping it’s not so loud here…
Haul: Viva Glam I. Your post awhile back reminded me to look the line over. Very pretty shades, but sadly, #1 was the only one that I found both useful and wearable for me. If I have critiques for the permanent line, it’s that it could use more cool-toned every day shades. A lot of the “nudes” pulled very warm on me.
Weekend plans: I’m working for most of it, unfortunately. Not going to complain too much since it looks like I’m going to have some major medical bills headed my way in the next month. 🙁
If you could thank one person today, who would it be and why?: My mother has instilled enough Catholic guilt in me over the years that I make sure to thank her for being a great mom on a regular basis. 😛
It does seem to be a range that can lean warmer, at least with respect to their lighter shades!
Haha, Catholic guilt!
Love Mellan’s festive look!
Haul: 2 Wayne Goss Air-Brushes, Charlotte Tilbury Hot Lips in Liv It Up and Secret Salma, Clairins Lip Perfector.
Weekend Plans: Celebrating the Canada Day long weekend with family and friends. Happy Canada Day and Happy 4th of July to Canadian and American Temptalia followers.
One Person I’d Thank: I’d thank my parents for giving me the family and foundation I’m so blessed to have today.
Two! Hopefully you like your new brushes 😉
Haul: Chanel Empreintes du Desert (Wow!), 2 weeks ago and Too Faced Totally Cute palettes. The TF arrived today and I let my 2 year old decorate the palette and swatched the shades she liked on her hand. She liked it! I also swatched all the colours on my hand and they look good.
Plans for weekend: Recovering from the flu, it wasn’t the worst I’ve had but I had a pretty bad sore throat with swollen tonsils, I winced every time I swallowed, you don’t realise you swallow your own saliva quite often! Also adjusting to the increase in vitamin b12 injections, which I started 4 weeks ago, has made me tired for a few weeks, so it’s good to feel better now. My clarity of thought is improving, needed the increase. Visiting my FIL for dinner on Sunday.
Person I’d like to thank: All those who were involved in my education and who were my mentors in my working life. As a Deaf person, it is hard enough to communicate and get on in a hearing world, never mind get a decent education. These people set me up for life and I cannot thank them enough.
Feel better soon, Claire! That sounds quite painful 🙁 Is tiredness a normal side effect of the Vitamin B12 injections?
Thank you, tiredness is more a symptom of being deficient and once you get more b12 into the body, it kickstarts the healing process, making new blood cells, etc, which takes energy. So your body has to rest until it’s completed the process, which can take up to 4-7 months. It was a big decision for me to decide to self-inject weekly rather than wait for my injection every 3 months, but I think it’s the right one ?.
Ahh, gotcha! I do Adequan injections for my dog, and I do them myself – I definitely feel like it’s easier to stay on schedule and adjust (go early) that way vs. going to the vet. Kudos to you for being able to do it to yourself!!
I knew a doc, female, who believed all women, deficient or not, would benefit fro B12 shots, and wrote scripts a bit too willingly. I did find there was a boost. Being deficient must be pretty dreadful. Glad it’s helping your cognitive clarity. The average automatic swallow is ~12-15 secs, and it’s controlled largely by the brainstem. ( slp/ex-swallowing therapist here.)
Haul: I ordered the ABH Modern Renaissance Palette; it should arrive tomorrow.
Weekend plans: Grocery shopping and making some food ahead for the 4th. I didn’t get around to coloring my roots last weekend, so I’ll do that this weekend. Fourth of July — Our older son’s BFF is coming over. We’ll barbecue, hot tub, and set off fireworks.
If you could thank one person today, who would it be and why?: I can’t think of anyone that I haven’t already thanked.
I bet you are going to love the ABH palette!
I love Mellan in this photo. My dog does the same thing anytime anyone is in the kitchen! My dog is a drooler, but it looks like Mellan has a bit more self-control!
Haul: Just ordered the new Buxom eyeshadows yesterday and I am so excited for them to show up! I need to pump the brakes on my purchasing this month, but I do have $50 worth of reward points I can redeem at Ulta if I simply *must* have something new!
Weekend plans: Headed to Virginia Beach to go to my sister’s July 4th party!
If I could thank one person: I would thank my best friend. She’s helped me through so much!
I can’t wait for your new Buxom shadows to arrive, Dianne!
Mellan is so stylish in his new bows.
Haul, I am on a ban, but I sort of fell off thewagon this week. I ordered some lipsticks, they were 15% or so off, I got: UD Liar, Crisis and Zealot and Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey.
At Sephora I bought CaudalieBeauty Elixir spray, Roller Lash from Benefit and a lipstick/gloss from Tony Moly.
We have a large NYX counter at one of the departmenstores now, I decided to try some things from the brand, I got:Brow Pencil in Taupe, two Liquid Suede creme lipsticks in Tea and Cookies and Amethyst, two glitter eyeliners in Crystal Silk and on the other one I just cant read the name, Gunmetal perhaps. I also got a Colored Felt Tip Liner in Teal. Powder Foundation Stay Matte but not Flat in Ivory, I wanted the liquid one, but it was sold out and finally from NYX Strobe Genius.
From MAC three lipsticks, Dubonnet, Fetish and Tokyo Tizzy.
From UD, at the counter, not online a pretty little eyeshadow palette, that might be called Beauty With an Edge.
The other week I bought MJB blush in Outspoken on the Sephora sale, I don’t think I reported that 🙂
I have a few things still on their way to me, I’ll report them when they arrive.
I really love the UD lipsticks I got, I think they are really amazingly good. And I finally found a nude that looks good and actually makes me look quite OK, yay for Liar!
Weekend, doing laundry, cleaning, nothing fun. Think of my US friends on the 4th, of course.
If I could thank one person, who and why? Impossible, I must thank both my maternal grandparents who took me in, raised me as their own and taught me a lot of really good things. I’ll love them forever. They are both gone 18 and 9 years ago, and I still miss them every day.
Oh, I moved myself to tears, there. Didn’t mean to, sorry. I think I got my love of red lipsticks from my grandmother, when I was a kid, she always had red lipstick on.
I’m in LOVE with his current one, lol!
At least they were on sale, Helene! Hopefully next week you’ll be able to get back on the wagon!
