Free for Haul Friday, Volume #329
Share any beauty goodies you may have picked up in the last week or so, or maybe what’s on your way or on your wish list for next week or month. 🙂
- Haul: Bite Beauty lipsticks came after I wrote last week’s FFHF (on Friday), so those, kind of, right? 🙂 The Too Faced PB&J palette arrived from Ulta late yesterday, so I’ll be working on that today hopefully!
- Weekend plans: Farmers market on Saturday, possibly doing a brunch/lunch there, too.
- What’s your favorite Etsy shop?: That’s tough! There are so many great ones! If I had to pick one, Bella Anela Jewelry. I get my dangling, gemstone earrings from her, and she is amazing to work with.
Share your pet photos to the Temptalia Pets flickr group! 🙂
This week’s Mellan photo…
P.S. — I love seeing everyone interact with each other here, so I am also going approve comments without replying (with the intention of still replying personally!) as I can so that you can see each others comments ASAP!
Haul: My order from Hautelook is coming in today
Weekend plans: Take the dogs for a walk, hopefully. Other than that, no clue.
What’s your favorite Etsy shop?: MadCitySue, she has the best sugar scrubs! I’ve been ordering from her for about 10 years now…
It’s always good when a Hautelook order finally arrives, lol!
Jenny, do you have a recommendation for a sugar scrub? I used to order them from a small batch lady in Vermont but she went out on maternity leave and sadly has not come back.
Do you mean from MadCitySue or in general? I like MCS’s Whipped Sugar Scrubs (they’re great for dry winter skin) but I also order from Haus of Gloi fairly often.
Wow MCS has a bunch of different whipped scrubs! Any stand-out scents you might recommend?
I’m a big fan of anything with vanilla or her blood orange scent. Recent favorites also include marzipan and pistachio! Really, anything she has is amazing. You can also ask her for a custom blend of any scents!
Love your recommendations! One of my Spring/Summer scents is Mandarin Ginger Lily and I just scooped up some Molton Brown stuff in blood orange. I also love vanilla (it kind of goes with everything else without distorting the scent too much.) Thanks again!
Paulas Choice skin care was my only purchase.
Get dog food and treats for the boys, do income tax on Sat. Sun relax and maybe watch some of the Oscars.
xoxo for the handsome Mellan from me and the boys. Have a beautiful weekend Christine.
Good luck with taxes, Lily!
Yay to the comments! I was just thinking yesterday how much I love that you personally respond (seriously, I don’t know how you do it) but I would love to be a bit more chatty with others if I could see comments more in real time. Thanks, Christine!
No problem!
Mellan is cute, guarding that door 🙂 Enjoy the farmers’ market!
*Haul- So much great stuff came last week and this week, but SO bummed because I’ve caught a cold and haven’t been able to test or play with anything. My eyes are watery and puffy, and every time I blow my nose, I rub my makeup and lipstick off 🙁 But here goes…..Tom Ford Cream Shadows in Sphinx (gooorgeous!) and Siren Blue (bought to use as a base for blue shadows since it’s sheer and not too shimmery), Clinique Lid Pops in Aqua and Willow (I’m a sucker for that pretty flower design, will return if they don’t work out), a backup of NARS lipstick in Banned Red ( I swatched every red/brown lippie in my collection and couldn’t find a dupe, it’s the perfect easy-to-wear red for me), Sephora Crayon Eyeliner in Mauve Shimmer, SKII Pitera Starter Kit from Sephora (with cleanser, lotion, essence, mask– been waiting forever for an affordable SKII value kit and “only” $69, so must see what all the fuss is about!), Drunk Elephant Pekee and Juju Bars. Free GWP from NM – orange tote with samples of Fresh Ancienne Creme, MJ Blacquer Eyeliner, Molton Brown body wash, Amore Pacific Foundation SPF 25 cushion makeup in 5 shades, Jose Eber Gold Lust Shampoo/Conditioner/Mask. Free samples from Sephora – Murad Hydro Quench Essence Serum, Algenist Power Wrinkle Fighter Serum, Murad Eye Lift Firming Treatment, Dry Bar Texas Tea Volumizing Shampoo & Conditioner, Briogeo Don’t Despair Repair Hair Mask, Show Beauty Hair Treatment Oil
*Weekend -friend’s birthday dinner, try to kick this cold
*Etsy – I haven’t checked Etsy out yet, but I’m afraid to look, because I’ll probably find tons of stuff I want LOL
Oh, you poor thing, Katherine! I hope you feel better soon 🙁
Nooooooooooo – hope you feel better soon! I think you’re in my “weather area” so you should also be having the really great weather by Sunday. Hope you can enjoy it. Have fun at the party!
Thanks Michele! I’m actually out here in CA, but the toddler got it first, then hubby, and now me. It’s not the worst cold I’ve had, but it’s definitely cramping my style. And I see all this new, pretty makeup stacking up on my shelf, waiting for me to play with it, soon hopefully……Hope you have a great weekend!
Wow – ok, for some reason, I thought you were in Annapolis! Stacking makeup is an excellent motivation to get well quick!
Girl -Stay off Etsy..Trust me! I hope you get well soon! So, now since you introduced City Color Cosmetics, I just spent an hour looking at the computer and didn’t even buy anything ..yet! LOL. I CAN’T DECIDE! It does seem like the ipsy code is working though. So, I’m going to try to narrow my choices down and check out! I needed a break to think so i didn’t just “buy it all”
Hahaha, glad to help/enable 😉 Yep, it’s going to be REALLY hard trying to narrow down the Shimmer Shadow list, so many pretty colors there, and 50% off is great. But I recommend trying a few to see if you like first, as they don’t accept returns. And thanks for the warning on Etsy, must block the site from my computer, or I’m sure my wallet will be empty
Hey Katherine, I know this cramps your style, because being sick when one has a bunch of new goodies to play with really sucks! Hot honey-lemon-ginger tea always helped clear my head when I’ve been hit with a bad cold. I sure hope you start feeling better soon!
Thanks Nancy! Mmmm, that tea sounds divine, perfect for a cold, and I would drink it even if I wasn’t sick
Awwww, get well soon, Katherine.
Thanks Rachel! Oh and my doorbell just rang, and guess what shows up….MORE makeup I can’t play with LOL The makeup gods are so cruel. And it’s my first Kiko order, full of blushes and shadows, will join the growing stack of new stuff on my vanity (sigh). Oh well at least I don’t have a cough too, which is what hubby and the kid got, along with the cold. At least not yet…..cross my fingers!
•Haul: Nothing. I’ve been doing quite well on my low-buy. I do have a wish list building up though and I’m so close to reaching 2000 points at Ulta to redeem for a $125 credit!
•Weekend plans: I have a 4 year olds birthday tomorrow and maybe some hiking on Sunday.
•What’s your favorite Etsy shop?: I’ve never purchased from Etsy.
Congrats on your ongoing low-buy, Mindy 😀
I’m on a low-buy as well this year, spent way too much at Sephora last year. I’m trying to only stick to the necessities this year, but that can be so tough with all the beautiful launches I’ve been seeing thus far. 😛 Here’s to hoping we can stay strong!
I’m on a low buy too. I have an abundant of clothes and beauty stuff. Want to stop over spending!
What is your secret, to those of you who are succeeding at low or no buy? Because I possess all the self control of a velociraptor when I see makeup, and I need to slow way, way down!
A therapist once told me the way to break bad habits or addictions is to avoid exposure to the things that you are addicted to i.e. stay away from Sephora , beauty stores, You Tube etc.
Haul: Sugarpill annual v-day sale (They launched of Valentine’s Day the brand)
Flutter, Dewdrop, & Baby Dewdrop False Eyelashes
Tako & Poison Plum Pressed Eyeshadows (I hit pan on Poison Plum and Tako I can see myself using up first)
LA IMATS Feral & Droplet Loose Eyeshadows
Free Paperdoll Loose Eyeshadow
Weekend plans: It’s my Dad’s B-day today but we are taking him out Sunday, Saturday we are finally doing the last bit of my Grandma’s move/purge from her house. She’s set up in a retirement residence now with a Suit but no extra storage… soo things have got to go/downsize.
What’s your favorite Etsy shop?: I feel bad because I don’t follow any but I purchase a lot of cosplay supplies from stores on there. From jewelry’s finding (claps, settings, stones, buckles, and beads), feathers, faux fur, lace, string/cord, thread, and fabrics.
How do you like sugarpill’s lashes compared to other ones?
The bands are supprising thin which is good considering some of the styles i make them more comfiretable to wear. I one only 2 wearable pairs from them (Saint and Cinnocent), but a handfully of more costume type lashes.
I gotta stop posting on the run. sigh…..
*The bands are surprising thin which is good considering some of the styles I make them more comfortable to wear. I own only 2 wearable pairs from them (Saint and Sinnocent), but a hand full of more costume type lashes as well.
Haul: Dior Glowing Garden Highlighter in Nude
Weekend plans: Hanging out with my sister while she does some returns/shopping
What’s your favorite Etsy shop?: I don’t have one as I don’t shop on there a lot. I have purchased a few things for gifts but it is not a site that is my go to for things.
Ooh, nice! You found the Dior highlighter 🙂
Have fun with your sister!
I did, I now own both the pink and nude 🙂
Thanks Christine, you have a fun time at the Farmer’s Market.
Haul: I just made two purchases (well, the second one is pending) from BellaAnelaJewelry! The aqua-to-purple-to pink cluster earrings and the grey and blue labradorite earrings. I am beside myself with excitement waiting to receive these. As far as makeup: I just got KVD Bow N Arrow after debating about it for months and I’m glad I did. Also, picked up four duochrome shadows from MUG and so far I love them–especially Mai Tai.
Weekend plans: Six Flags and laundry.
Favorite Etsy shop: Well, now it’s BellaAnelaJewelry, too, thanks to you, Christine! I’m going to spend all of my money there. I know it. It’s cool, I don’t need to eat. 😉
Yay! Fingers crossed you love your new earrings, Risa. I am thinking about getting a new color combo for summer, lol!
Exciting! I’m curious to see what she makes for you! Which earrings are your favorites?
I got these semi-recently and love how the gold plays off the stones! https://www.etsy.com/listing/242966247/peacock-gemstone-dangle-earrings-long?ref=shop_home_active_2
And I love these for simplicity – their length makes them more noticeable, but the colors are very understated! https://www.etsy.com/listing/227774515/black-white-gemstone-earrings-long?ref=shop_home_active_19
This is also one of my favorites: https://www.etsy.com/listing/192076775/crescent-moon-earrings-half-moon?ref=shop_home_active_9
All of those are on my loves list, lol. I was so torn between the grey/blue ones and the peacock ones as my second pair before settling on the grey, so the peacock ones will likely be next. That color combination is so striking.
Great choices. Her style is so elegant. I’m thinking of asking for some custom work soon, as well.
She’s always been brilliant to work with for custom orders. Even my mom says so (she was really impressed by Angela, as she orders earrings as gifts around Christmas), and my mom has a high bar for customer service!
Oh my, those Peacock color stone earrings are just WOW! Love how those colors were put together, Christine! Time for me to start saving for some cool earrings, except I’m really terrible at saving. I saw a beautiful pair with a sea theme, including mini starfish, that would give me that beachy vibe.
Haul: I decided that a nail polish rack didn’t count as part of the no buy (it’s an organizational tool! it’s exempt haha) so I am hoping to pick a spot to mount that today and get my bottles up.
Weekend plans: Chicago weather is so weird! It was freezing all week but it’s going to be in the 50s again over the weekend, so more outside time.
What’s your favorite Etsy shop?: I am not a super frequent Etsy shopper, but I do love DogsByTheBay for buying collars for my dogs 🙂 they make the martingale style that I like and have tons of different fabrics.
Have fun organizing your polishes, Julia 🙂
Enjoy the warmer weekend!
Haul:
Beautylish: Natasha Denona Mono Eye Shadow (Metallic 40M – Lavender Gray) and All Over Glow Face & Body Shimmer Powder (01 Light). Haven’t received yet.
MAC: Eye Z You, Pro Eye Makeup Remover sample. I swatched the palette for my blog (but haven’t reviewed it yet). Not super impressed with the swatches – I may wear it this weekend with So Select so I can see how they perform.
Neiman Marcus: Lollia Dusting Powder and Eau de Parfume (Calm), Chanel Le Vernis Longwear Nailcolor (Organdi), Oribe Airbrush Root Touchup (Dark Brown), S16 Beauty Event Tote and Samples (GWP). I’m supposed to receive this tomorrow. Kind of bummed bc I’m curious to try out the new Chanel nail polish formula.
Sephora (3 orders): Smashbox Color Correcting Stick (Get Less Red, green and Look Less Tired, peach), Korres Milk Soap, The Estée Edit by Estée Lauder The Edgiest Kohl Shadowstick (02 Frost Bite), Well-Kept Screen Cleansing Towelettes Hamptons (for my daughter), Dr. Brandt Needles No More Deluxe Samples (x3), 9 Free Samples. I swatched the Smashbox Sticks and the EL Shadowstick but haven’t reviewed them yet. I feel super positive about how the Smashbox correctors will perform based on the swatches. I also think the EL shadowstick is going to do really well.
Shu Uemura Art of Hair: Wonder Worker, 6 Free Samples. I wanted to try this as a leave-in when I don’t dry my hair (along with the Kevin Murphy Body Mass that I use at the roots.) I should have it next week.
Weekend plans: Taking my Mom out for a tapas lunch tomorrow (with my daughter and her bf) to celebrate her 86th birthday. Probably doing my mani tonight using JINSoon Cherry Berry.
What’s your favorite Etsy shop?: Hahahaha – you found the one site I don’t shop!
I’m looking forward to your thoughts on the Natasha Denona eyeshadow, Michele! I noticed that the pricing on Beautylish differs by finish.
I was kind of disappointed that several of the singles I wanted were sold out. I opted to try a single in lieu of a palette bc the palettes were too repetitive for my stash. I’m really curious about the shimmer powder – I’m intrigued by comments indicating it’s more of a glow than a shimmer like so many of the powders. I’ll update after I receive the order.
Here’s the link to my eyeshadow review: http://goo.gl/Jkwkiw
I also noticed that the price for the singles depends on where you buy them! (i.e. Beautylish was cheaper than Denona on some shades.)
You sure have hauled quite a bit of nice stuff.
Thanks…but you got the Dior GG highlighters 😉
My eyes just popped out at your haul! OK..that Natasha D. highlight powder..it’s been in my cart for a loong time . I so want to try the foundation too! But, of course this extremely hard becuase 1) the two shades I may need are out of stock and 2) I can’t get anyone to return my email to get a sample. So I’m going insane deciding if i should risk guessing. Any chance you have tried the foundation Michelle?
Anyway, please, please lmk your opinion of the highlight powder! That’s me begging.
*blushing*…it’s a vice I can live with… I haven’t tried the foundation yet but am considering it depending on what I think of the highlight powder. I’ll let you know when I’ve had a chance to review the powder (it was just shipped yesterday but it’s coming cross country). I don’t like guessing on foundation bc I hate returning things. I rarely shop in stores for anything so I try to get creative in figuring out if something’s going to work. There’s a really helpful Customer Experience Manager with Beautylish, Alicia Hentemann, who I know also sent others samples. When I chatted with them last, I spoke with someone else (I think Beth or Bess – can’t remember) but I believe Alicia’s still there as we’re connected on LinkedIn and she hasn’t changed her profile. Not sure who you called, but if you haven’t tried them, you may want to try either calling them or chatting online with them and asking if they could send you the samples.
I understand the “vice’ . My hauling is my vice as well and at just makes me happy. So, it’s all good! I’ve spoke with Alicia before. She usually is good about my emails. Good idea on calling! 🙂
Nicole, finally got the review posted: http://goo.gl/eCctaO
Since I don’t do this professionally because I have a f/t job (and don’t really have a good camera) I try to capture the swatches under daylight bulbs so it’s clear what the product will actually look like on. This one was a bit tricky to photograph because it’s more of a glow than a distinct shimmer, glitter, or shade.
Yay!i didn’t know you blogged?! Awesome. I’ll start following. I actually broke down last night and bought it when Andy from Beautylish FINALLY returned my call! I really wan the cream too! I’m trying to resist. I dont reach for creams that much. But, I love the way they look. So, i have a feeling it will be mine eventually. 🙂 Thanks for the link!
Nicole, I hope you like it! It’s a bit different than most of the other “highlighters” I’ve tried in the past. I wasn’t sure about it at first swatch but when the gold really mellowed out quickly, it changed the entire product. And yeah, I went back to hobby-blogging after a year off. I usually tweet (@Binxcat4ever) and gram out when I’ve updated.
I just found you on Twitter! Yeah! I’m not very good at twitter..just learning.
I’m excited to get it and Andy is sending some foundation samples. He’s also sending some of the new Charlotte T. I have this thing about foundations. Esp. when seasons change. Lol..Nice blog Michelle. 🙂
Nicole, Thanks 🙂 I’ll be curious to hear what you think of the new Charlotte T foundation. I haven’t been a big fan of her creams and original foundation as I disliked the fragrance…the foundation was ok, just couldn’t stand the smell.
I hated her cream and that’s why I’m happy he threw a sample of the foundation in.There is no counters around me. So, no way I’m buying that without trying. I feel exactly like you about those two products. Cream was too fragrant and the foundation was okay. I’ll keep you posted.:)
HAUL: Still nothing, but my primary wish list is a few more Clinique blushes (Heather Pop, Pansy Pop, and maybe Peach or Fig Pop), Hourglass Ethereal Light powder, and I’m crushing hard on the Peanut Butter and Jelly palette. Later tonight I might reorganize my singles and try to recreate an orange/purple look to prove that I don’t need the palette lol.
WEEKEND PLANS: Skiing
ETSY SHOP: I am not really loyal to any shops, but I love buying TV/Movie related clothes and housewares on there. Cuz, where else can you find a polka dot dress where the polka dots are actually Millennium Falcons, or a 6 foot long fathead of the Mystery Science Theater gang’s silhouette?
Etsy is great for that “I wish someone would make _____” because that’s often the place to find it!
You can find almost anything you can imagine! I recently bought a gift for my friend who loves tea and Lord of the Rings, and I was like… I wonder if there’s a tea tray with a map of Middle Earth on it. By golly, there was!
A lot of shops will do custom orders, too. It’s so cool.
Ginny, let me be your bad influence…Saks is running their big GWP (tote and samples with $125 purchase) plus they have a 7 piece Clinique GWP with a $50 Clinique purchase. Just sayin’…. 😉
Well, our Saks just opened back up after a long reno!
haul: bite amuse bouche black truffle … such an awesome shade
plans: sleeping a lot, hopefully
favorite etsy shop: I have a few cool duochrome lip glosses from a shop called fiercemagenta
Yay! Happy to hear you’re digging Bite’s new formula.
Latest Haul: Benefit Dandelion blush travel size – Besides the scent which is quite strong, i LOVE this and now understand the hype. Since it’s the dead of winter where I am, the cool tone actually works nicely on my warm skin tone.
Nip + Fab glycolic pads – Not bad, I use it as a toner after cleansing. I was looking for cheaper alternative to First Aid. Neither do any miracles for my skin, but both give a nice refreshed, cleansed, hydrated feel.
Weekend Plans: Checking out Saks Fifth Avenue which just arrived to Canada! Now will it last longer than Target that is the q.. hehe
No Etsy for me unfortunately. One of my weaknesses is that I am so indecisive and just browsing through Etsy gives a bit of anxiety lol
Love Mellan’s pig tail haha! Happy Friday Christine 🙂
Yay! So glad Dandelion lived up to the hype 😀
Happy Friday!
CoverFX foundation drops (I plan out experimenting with making a cushion compact)
A couple of blushes from ColourPop
Hopefully I can stay out of makeup stores this weekend as I am traveling!
Have fun traveling!
Haul: I headed back to MAC last weekend to grab Russian Red after regretting not purchasing it. IT’S AMAZING. Completely worth the hype.
Weekend plans: Just chilling, maybe a bit of shopping. I got a 25% off coupon for my local department store and I think I might scope out the cosmetic department’s BB creams since mine’s running out soon. If any readers with combination skin or oily skin have recommendations, I’d love to hear! I’m currently using the Estee Lauder DayWear BB Anti-Oxidant Beauty Benefit Creme SPF 35 but it’s a bit too orange and evolves from ‘dewy’ to ‘oily’ wayyyy too fast in the humid climate I live in ):
What’s your favorite Etsy shop?: Don’t have one!
Russian Red is a classic red! What do you pair it with?
Lip liner-wise? Nothing yet! I don’t own a red lip liner so I’m still on the fence on if I should go drugstore (I’ve heard good stuff about Nyx and Essence) or higher end (either MAC or Urban Decay) for one.
If you’re asking about the overall face, I’ve been favouring the Agent Peggy Carter look. That is, natural skin, tightlining the upper lash line with the tiniest of wings, defining the crease a little, strong brows and great lashes.
Not a beauty haul. (Although I’m about to snag some Revlon Volume + Length.) But… a new bike. It’s black carbon with lime green, it’s ugly (I am a fan of classic lugged steel). And it’s a delight to ride.
When you say bike, do you mean bicycle or motorcycle? You never know 😉
Bicycle! And I think it’s kinda growing on me. I fear I am too old and not flexible enough for a flat-out racing bike. They are not comfortable, but they are such a delight to ride.
Ordered 3 Colourpop Ultra Satin liquid lippies; Too Faced PBJ and one Lorac blush. Can’t wait for the PBJ Palette!
Awesome! Let me know how you like the new Ultra Satin formula!
Mellan’s like, should I get up? Nah.
Haul: SEPHORA Eyeshadow in June Gloom
COVER FX Custom Cover Drops in N20
LAURA MERCIER Blush in Violet Orchid
MARC JACOBS BEAUTY The Dreamer palette
DOLCE&GABBANA Dolce Rosa Excelsa perfume
Burberry eye shadow pencil in Rosewood
Burberry face contour pen
Weekend plans: No idea! 🙂 A whole lotta nothing and cleaning, probably.
What’s your favorite Etsy shop?: Well, I don’t do a lot of shopping on Etsy, but I got my wedding place cards from JonNiPaperGoods. They were super nice. The cards were gold in the shape of dogs and cats (dogs for the guys, cats for the ladies).
I got a lot of wedding stuff from Etsy, too! Very fun.
The Dreamer is such a pretty palette!
Haul: nothing big, saving my beauty spending money for Japan! 🙂
Weekend plans: leaving for Japan, eeeeep!
What’s your favorite Etsy shop?: none, simply because I haven’t shopped (or even looked) there yet.
Have fun in Japan 🙂
Haul: I finally got my Zoeva Cocoa palette in, so I’m itching to give it a whirl.
Weekend: My favorite sister is coming to visit for the weekend, so we are going to poke around the city and go somewhere fancy for dinner. I’ve really missed her, so I can’t wait!
Etsy: None, I find that website so overwhelming!
Aww! 🙂 I hope you have a lovely time with your sister this weekend, Sarah!
Haul: Sauce Box Forbidden Fruits Palette. I’ve been wanting it for awhile, so I grabbed it on closeout for $28. Looxi Beauty — Highlighters in Tragic and Wicked; Aurora eyeshadows in Halo, Royal, Duperstar, Berry Sexy, Disturbia, Bohemia, Copper Popper, Genesis, Queen of Mean, and Gemini. Stunning!!! Wet n Wild spring collection — everything except The New Romantics eyeshadow trio. It was already sold out. Clinique Cheek Pops in Ginger Pop, Peach Pop, Plum Pop, and Berry Pop.
Weekend plans: Still taking care of my sick son. He’s sloooowly getting better.
What’s your favorite Etsy shop? I haven’t bought much on Etsy the last couple of years. Tater Rounds Beauty makes great lipsticks, though. Teaman is really awesome. The gingerbread tea is to die for.
Tea… I did not think to purchase tea on Etsy, but now I must go investigate — thanks for the rec 🙂
Poor son! At least he’s getting better!
How are you finding Arizona Christine? Is there a big difference from California?
It is a little drier, and it’s usually 10 degrees warmer (on average) than whatever it was back where I lived in California. I think people seem nicer to me out here; not that people were mean in California, but I think life is less hectic and so people are friendlier and more willing to have random conversations. My husband hasn’t noticed this, though, so maybe it’s just me! I feel the urge to go outside and enjoy the outdoors a lot more here – I think perhaps it’s the area we’re in, as there are a lot of people walking and biking.
Sometimes I don’t even realize I’ve moved, since I am closer to Phoenix, and it’s only when you start going further out that you really see the natural desert landscape – where I’m at, there’s still a lot of grass, not tons of cacti (more like strategically placed cacti!), lots of palm trees. The mountains are different – not as imposing – but still striking and pretty to look at. The real test will just be how well we endure with summer, as it is so hot, and while we’ve been here during the heat, it’s different to live with it for months nonstop. Hopefully it’s okay 🙂
Haul: Too Faced Chocolate Bon Bons palette, Sephora Z palette, Phyto Secret de Nuit “night cream for hair” – wonderful stuff; OPI I’m Not Really a Waitress (picked it up in the duty-free at IGIA on the way home from India) and a sample size of Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil (and, if the past few days are any indication, I think I’ll be buying the full size before too long!)
Weekend plans: dinner out with daughter and son in law tonight; gym tomorrow; visiting youngest son on Sunday and taking his car (hubby’s former car) to the dealer for repairs for the mystery issue that’s been plaguing it for a while now.
ooops – favourite Etsy store – guess this is why I didn’t answer this question as I’ve never even looked at Etsy. So I don’t have a favourite Etsy store.
What do you feel the Luna oil is doing for you that’s making such an impression on you, Mariella? Super curious!
It seems to be really smoothing and plumping. BUT…it’s only been 2 nights so a few more uses will be necessary before I “commit”. Also, I have about 4 other facial oils – also big, instant “love affairs” – that I need to use up before I move on to this one, if I do move on to it (that price tag….I might wait til VIB 20%; that way I can save AND maybe make a dent in the Boscia Tsubaki and Algenist oils I have, which are pretty much FULL – honestly, I wish the bottles were smaller (and the price tags too) so that I could actually FINISH one before falling in love with a new one. It’s one reason I like the small bottles of Josie Maran – I can actually envision finishing those!
Ahh, I see! 🙂 I think your plan of waiting at least until you’ve used up some of the other ones makes sense. I wish more skincare came in smaller sizes – but bigger than a deluxe or travel-sized – so you could get a really good feel for it before committing to a full-size. That and they need bulk sizes on more things, haha.
Haul: ColourPop Marshmallow liquid lipstick and lip pencil, and Dance Party shadow.
Weekend plans: painting the bathroom.
Favorite etsy shop: Sovrin, Osteal, UnicornEmpirePrints.
Dance Party!!
Alice, how are you liking Marshmallow? I’m coveting the color and hoping the formula works better for me than the Ultra Mattes.
It hasn’t arrived yet, but once it does I’ll let you know if I like it. And yeah some of the ultra mattes are soooo harsh, I had to throw away Zipper!
(I always look for your comments, haha. We have similar skin tones and taste in weird colors.)
Ah… I forgot that they didn’t launched until a few days ago. I never try to shop the debut day any more. The releases are always a nightmare. I just wait for what I want to come back in stock.
You’re one of the people who’s comments I always look for, too. Weird colors are the best colors. 🙂
🙂
I saw you followed me and I thought I was already following you but apparently not, and now I can’t find the button to follow someone! Boo!
Ooooh, purples!!!!???
Purples and teal are my favorite colors for makeup!
Purple, black and teal are my favorite colors of all! It definitely shows in my closet and my makeup stash has quite a lot of those shades well represented. (Plus blood-orange or red, too)
Haul: MAC So Select lipstick (I’m in love!)
Weekend Plans: My mom and her fiance are coming to visit tomorrow for my birthday!
Favorite Etsy shop: Oooh, I love Etsy! The first thing that comes to mind is YarnInkStudio’s gorgeous yarns. I’m actually going to be opening up an Etsy shop in the next few weeks. All I need to do is photograph my goods.
Happy birthday, Kat! 🙂
Haul: I’m just waiting for that tax return to come in so I can let her rip! To answer your previous question the lipstick at the top of my list is Firebird. I’m being drawn to Bite’s Sake, Pickled Ginger, and Radish so those are in my top 5 choices too. I need to sample some new foundations and skincare too. I also need to find a dupe for my favorite blush that I hit pan on that I’ve almost completely decimated. I should get a brow product and some new eyeshadows but I’m trying to think of what I need. I’m almost out of my last Kitten pan, it needs to be replaced badly. I also need some new mascaras but I’ll probably turn to the DS for those. I’m open to suggestions for lashes that are volumized, separated, and curled. Mine are ok in length so I don’t need to worry about that aspect.
Plans: Dog park, shopping for a few essentials we’re out of like tin foil, and MAYBE some food out or a movie. I need some recreation, I just hate doing things alone!
Favorite Etsy Shop: I don’t shop Etsy really. There is some guy who makes sea glass mobiles and if I had the cash I’d buy one for my bathroom!
Firebird is lovely. Definitely harder to dupe as well!
The only DS mascara I’ve liked so far is the Maybelline Lash Sensational, maybe give that a try?
I second that choice: Lash Sensational!
Haul: My Caroline Hirons Xmas Cult Beauty box finally arrived, I missed out in the first round as I hadn’t been quick enough but aas I had been on the waiting list, I had another chance to get it but knew it wouldn’t be ready until Feb when they could get the second round of goods together. It’s got a really good selection of skincare from May Lindstrom, Zelens, Dr Dennis Gross, Roques O’Neill, Tata Harper, and Emma Hardie.
Also got from Naturisimo: Pacifica body wash in Ruby Guava and SOS Rescue Face and Body wash plus sample set + 5 samples I chose.
I’m expecting a MAC haul soon with 5 lipsticks (I know! five! but they’re all really different, or that’s my excuse lol) and a beauty powder. They’re from the Zac Posen and Flamingo Park collections, I really want the Flamingo Park eye palette but it’s not on the UK site yet ?, I hope I manage to nab it in time!
Plans for weekend: Cleaning the flat ready for my parents staying later in the week on the way to France, they’re driving all the way there. My fiancé has to walk and feed his mum’s dog as she’s on holiday.
What’s my favourite Etsy shop? I haven’t shopped there before. The closest I’ve come to doing that is from a small independent online shop called Ideal Bookshelf, I’ve ordered 4 adorable handmade lapel pins in the shape of classic books.
Christmas Cult — what! I’m glad that while it was confusing to me initially, it wasn’t actually in transit purgatory for the last two months, lol!
Haha! Yeah, though for 2 weeks I was wondering if I’d get it because I got the email from Cult Beauty that it had been shipped but I didn’t hear from the delivery company at all until it finally arrived at my door! I thought I’d have to report it lost to Cult Beauty but no, phew. Or that’d have been £195 down the drain! Still worth it as it’s actually worth twice that.
Haul: Chanel Rouge Coco Stylo in Article, Sunday Riley Blue Moon cleanser, Smashbox Insta-matte,Anastasia brow pencil in medium brown. Half of my order from Hautelook arrived from when they had TheBalm. I got Cabana Boy,Frat Boy,Down Boy,Hot Mama ,& Desert. I should have a couple of palettes coming. i also received a deluxe sample of Buxom Pink Decoy. Not bad. May check out the others in the line. I’m going to pick up Becca’s Aqua Luminous foundation today or tomorrow in the shade beige. I really love it. Also, already picked up the Armani Glow in 6.25. I’m undecided on the laura Mercier Candle glow. I wasn’t blown away honestly. But, the sample I got was the wrong shade. So, I may try to get the right match so, I can wear it again.I also, haven’t tried the Stila or the Natasha D. formula yet. Dying to try the Natasha D now! lol. I like them all. They are kind of slightly different with a glow.:D
Weekend Plans: I’m getting my hair done tomorrow..changing the color for Spring! I also have to assemble a platform for a mattress I got at ikea, and run to the mall.
Favorite Etsy store: Olive and Arrow! Beautiful knits! This girl saves me. 🙂
Happy Weekend!
Oh, For those wondering about my Spinal MRI..it was negative! meaning , there were no MS lesions. Meaning , they crossed the MS off my chart for now. But, it will be followed. Just ATN and TN now..whew! That’s a relief. The ATN/TN has been enough for me. Thanks for your concerns and cares ! xo :)!
Yay!! Happy news, Nicole! Thank you for keeping us updated 🙂
No problem! Thank you for caring <3
YAY for good MRI results! (Hopefully you didn’t have to wait too long bc waiting is the worst!) Nice haul btw 🙂
Thank Michelle! I didn’t wait long. But, the week felt like forever!
So glad to hear your results for MS were negative!
Thanks Rachel! I’m glad too!
Nice haul and good news about your MRI scan results ?!
Thank you Claire!
Thank goodness it wasn’t MS! Major bullet dodged right there, for real though. I was hoping you’d get good news!
Thanks Nancy!
Oh Nicole, SO glad no MS! My goodness, I think that ATN/TN is more than enough to deal with.
You’re so right! I was preparing to have to deal with it.But, no thank you, I’ll leave it , If I have that option. Know what I mean?! It turns out a lot of the things going on with my legs like the pins and needles and falling asleep a lot are sometimes side effects of one of the medications I’m on. They are still following me closely by making me do MRI’s every 3 months ,tapering. But, whew… Thanks for you’re concern Katherine. 🙂
Hi, Nicole! I’ve followed your posts and just wanted to say how happy I am for you! It must be quite a relief to find out you don’t have MS.
Hi Kat! Yes, it sure is! I read your posts quite often as well. It’s nice to hear form you! Thank you! 🙂
Haul: The discontinuation of Bite Beauty’s luminous creme lipsticks prompted a haul (even though I’m attempting a low-buy year). I bought two lipsticks in “fig” and “musk”, GA Luminous Silk foundation, UD Afterglow blush in “obsessed”, and a Buxom true nude lip foundation in “undressed”. No more makeup shopping for me for the next few months!
Weekend plans: Pick up a few things for my boyfriend’s birthday next week!
What’s your favorite Etsy shop?: Right now it’s SpikesAndLeatherUSA. Can’t seem to get enough of their accessories lately.
So glad you were able to get two of the Luminous Cremes!
Haul: I finally got The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer! I can see what the hype is all about!
Weekend plans: I need to stay at home with my brother because my parents are going away, but that’s it.
What’s your favorite Etsy shop?: I don’t buy a lot from Etsy so I don’t have a favorite shop!
Mary-Lou is gorgeous!
Haul: too faced chocolate bonbon palette
Weekend: visit to Mac store to spend a gift card (which always feels more like a treat than using cash!!)
Etsy: I’ve just discovered UpAtNumber7 who make some really cool tote bags that make great gifts and arty prints.
How are you liking your new palette, Joanna?
Haul: a couple of discounted cheap eyeshadow brushes. I’ve been telling myself not to buy any new makeup without spending more time first playing around with what I already have (since I don’t wear makeup out of the house, it can go a while untouched); so far I think I’ve done pretty well, it’s really enjoyable just to look at other people’s swatches and looks, or even browse a shop website and think about what I might like.
Weekend plans: Had a lovely brunch this morning with family members, including from out of town and overseas, so it was great to catch up. (It’s always already Saturday here when this post goes up.) For Sunday have some cricket to watch, which will be great fun as I haven’t been to a match in a long time.
Etsy: I’ve never actually bought from there, believe it or not! The stuff I see there that catches my eye tends to be US-based, and so the shipping costs are pretty high :O, that’s always put me off.
I’m really surprised at how many readers don’t shop Etsy at all! One of the items I love the most are these knit gloves in the shape of foxes, which came from overseas (to me here in the U.S.). I get SO many compliments on it, so sometimes the shipping can be worth it, lol!
In my case I don’t browse etsy because I don’t usually have much money, and when I do it’s more likely that I’ll spend it on something other than, well, the kind of things I associate with etsy. When I do buy something I want enough, and have the money for, I often end up paying almost as much again on shipping. It can be a real pain, but New Zealand is a pretty long way from many places!
Haul: From ColourPop – DTLA, Call Me, and Best O Crème Gel Colour, Best O Crème Gel Liner, and Hippo Highlighter. I also purchased a B Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in Black Mauve that I think I forgot to mention last Friday. And… I bought something I swore I would NEVER buy. However, because I can’t help being curious, and because I got it for under $20, I purchased the LC Venus palette to see what all the fuss was about.
Weekend plans: I think we may go out this evening and play a few games of pool. I predict we’ll play three games and I will win two of them… because my husband loves me and somehow “misses” the easiest of shots. 😀
What’s your favorite Etsy shop? I don’t really have a favorite Etsy shop, but I have been a repeat customer of Fatwoman Scarves.
You’ll have to tell me how ColourPop compares to the Bobbi Brown Gel Eyeliner!
Pool is fun! My husband is a shark compared to me, lol!
As you know, the CP liner is very dense and highly pigmented. It’s great for creating that precise line I like along my upper lash line. The BB liner is SO light, creamy, and easily blended. I like to smudge it out along the lower lash line for a softer look. Both liners wore equally well on me, so I’m really pleased with them! I will admit that I was initially disappointed with the BB liner because the color wasn’t what I’d hoped it would be, but after using it in a way other than originally intended and seeing the results, it’s a keeper! 😀
Thank you! I can definitely see what you mean – the BB could definitely be used more as a cream eyeshadow compared to the ColourPop one, lol!
That was my thought, exactly! Now I’m curious about the BB cream shadows. =)
Haul: I caved and got the Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask (the champagne version) for particularly dry lip days. I also reordered The Body Shop’s Vitamin C Glow Boosting Moisturizer as the weather is getting warmer and my skin is screaming for a much lighter moisturizer for the months ahead.
Weekend plans: Not sure, possibly some emergency doc stuff as my spine may be doing not so fun things and is ramping up my pain levels to an 11. Hopefully I can just wait it out until I see a nurse at my pain docs place on Monday.
What’s your favorite Etsy shop?: I don’t have any experience ordering things on Etsy, though I’ve browsed it quite a bit.
Champagne is nice! A little oomph for daytime wear but still hydrating!
I hope you made it through the weekend okay, Anne! Fingers crossed relief is incoming for you.
Yeah I tend to find it too thick in consistency to wear on all the time (that’s what my Burt’s Bees is for), so I tend to exfoliate my lips and then use it for like 10-15 minutes when at home and then wipe it off. Still makes my lips super moisturized.
And thank you! I got a bunch of trigger point injections done today for the first time ever and they seem to be really helping, so that is fantastic for future pain flares.
Looks like I’m really late to the party!!!?
Haul: More like an anti-haul? I returned The Fashion Flock to MAC, exchanged it for Please Me. Which doesn’t do crazy lip-liney gathering nonsense. And because I was feeling rather indecisive, I got Mehr, too. Yep, a lipstick whose name I cannot even pronounce, LoL! But it looks perfect. Oh, I almost forgot, I received my first Ipsy Bag!
Weekend plans: Other than doing my hair and nails, and my meeting on Sunday, I’ll just be looking for excuses to get out of doors. Try to enjoy the 80’s before we start getting crazy hot soon!
Favorite Etsy Store: Hmmm, I have not shopped Etsy yet! But perhaps I will one day soon, although not sure where I’d begin.
Better late than never when it comes to this party ;D
Haul: Bite Matte Lip Crayon in Blanc (white), Sephora lip liners in Cashmere Pink and The Pink of Things, MAC Nice to Meet You lipstick (Flamingo Park), Tom Ford Giacomo lipstick
Weekend plans: Enjoying another weekend with record warm temperatures
What’s your favorite Etsy shop?: Moonlight for Violet, a Toronto-based jeweler.
Have you had a chance to use the Blanc with other shades yet, Tracey?
haul: Tom Ford patent finish lip polish in Infamy, ordered from Nordstrom — it’s beautiful; Smashbox Always Sharp lip liner in Fuchsia (for when I want to make my beloved YSL Rouge Volupte Shine #19 Fuchsia in Rage more long lasting/opaque), Deborah Lippman Rich Girl Broad Spectrum SPF 25 Hand Cream, Supergoop Forever Young hand cream SPF 40 PA+++, and Supergoop Forever Young body butter SPF 40 PA+++ from Sephora — I’ve gotten really good at protecting my face/neck/decolletage, have been less diligent with hands and arms because I’m weird about anything sticky-feeling on my hands, so I’m trying some new products — my hands and arms seem to be able to tolerate sunscreens other than just zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, the samples I tried seemed OK, so there’s hope; and Paula’s Choice Anti-Aging Eye Cream (a new try — my poor undereyes got dehydrated again this winter, in spite of my best efforts) and Resist Skin Revealing Body Lotion 10% AHA (a repurchase). But my real haul was in clothing. For school, and future employment in the retail beauty industry where the standard seems to be all-black outfits, I’ve been trying to find black pants that are not jeans that fit me well; this is a major challenge, because my waist is four sizes larger than my hips (size 8 waist, size 0 hips), my calves are very large relative to my thighs, and because a lot of styles show off every lump and bump on my rear end, and even size XS Spanx (which are hard to come by, BTW) are not exactly snug in the rear end and thigh area on me. I’ve tried on dozens of pairs of pants in several stores over the past couple of weeks, with a couple of modest successes (J.Crew Campbell pants are OK, for a slightly preppy-ish, basic straight-leg look; Old Navy Pixi pants are OK for a skin-tight look, especially at 40% off; Nordstrom Rack yielded a cool pair of non-baggy harem pants by Vince at 70% off) and lots of utter failures (nothing at Target, H&M, or Nordstrom (!) fit well, although I did find a couple of skirts on Nordstrom’s web site; LLBean does not even make pants small enough for me to wear). Turns out I should have gone straight to Madewell! Immediately found three pair of pants and a jumpsuit that look fantastic. Not just “OK” or “that will work”, but wonderful! beautiful! stylish! perfect! not even a hint of a worry about lumpy-butt! I already knew they have dresses that suit my style — sleek, uncluttered, non-fussy; but to find a place that has non-jeans pants that fit is just amazing. And only two of the three styles had drawstring waists (and none of them look like the kind of pants that you think of when you think ‘draw-string waist pants’); the third pair has a nicely tailored waistband. I got the track trousers, which look dressier on me than they do on the website, and the stockton culotte pants, which, since my legs are so short, look like ankle-length wide-leg trousers on me, and a pair of linen-like wide-leg drawstring-waist pants that aren’t on the website; the jersey jumpsuit, which can be dressed up or down in a lot of different ways; and a black linen kimono tunic-length jacket that goes with most everything. I went for smaller sizes on the jumpsuit and kimono, since the oversized look tends to overwhelm my small frame. I spent more $$ than I ideally would have liked, but, when I put something on and it looks wonderful, instead of just ‘OK’, I can really regret it later if I don’t spring for it, and these should see lots of use, whatever I do going forward — they’re black pants, lol!
Weekend plans: get a makeover at the Urban Decay event at my local Ulta this morning; start re-organizing my closets and drawers!
Favorite etsy shops: for hair sticks/forks, Quattro for metal and Baerreis Collection for wood; for scarf/shawl pins, Bebes Baubles Jewelry
I’m so curious to hear more reviews for the Patent Finish Lip Polishes (I feel like attention was on Honeymoon and the cream eyeshadows!).
I’m bookmarking your comment so I can go through some of your product recs for drier undereyes!
Aw, thanks, Christine! I’m liking this new eye cream from Paula’s Choice so far. It’s working better under concealer for me than the Cera Ve eye cream I was using, and I think it’s more moisturizing, too (and Cera Ve is pretty good stuff for moisturization). On my face in the morning right now I’m using a mix of 1 pump First Aid Beauty Ultra Face moisturizer, 1 drop PC hyaluronic acid booster, 2 drops PC vitamin C booster with vitamin E and ferrulic acid, and 4 drops Josie Maran Argan Oil. I put a bit of it on my undereye area like a serum, let it sink in then add the eye cream. I’m having difficulty tolerating any stronger anti-aging preparations than that around my eyes. The weather is not as cold, so the heat doesn’t have to be on full blast, so things are not looking so desperately dehydrated. I’ll have to start easing back on the Argan oil soon. It’s really dehydration rather than dryness that I’ve got under my eyes; my skin is still combo normal/oily, although the oiliness does decrease as the years go by. I tell people with oily skin that they should be happy about it — signs of aging really do seem to show up more slowly on oily skin 🙂
Mellan is cute as always. I love how sometimes dogs seem to forget they have a tail so it ends (haha) up looking really fun.
Haul, I went off my no buy for this week only to get UD Gwen Stefani lipstick in Firebird, I mean, I just had to have it. The blush palette was sold out, or I would have bought that as well.
Kat von D launched here last week, so I had to go take a look, and then I had to buy Nayeon, I love it, my son hates it. I wore it on the subway going home and people looked, it was fun, though some seemed not to like it, but who cares.
If you bought two KvD items you got a free mini lipstick in Underage Red and a mini Tattoo liner in Trooper, so I decided to try a liquid lipstick, I bought Exorcism, I like the colour, but I find the formula hard to apply really evenly. And, it’s quite drying, I think. The Studded lipstick I now have are qite comfortable and they do last a long time for me.
I almost forgot I also bought Too Faced Chocolate BonBons eyeshadow palette. I’m late to that party, but I do like the palette a lot.
Weekend, nothing really, just boring household-y things.
Etsy shop, I haven’t bought much from shops on Etsy, but I like vintage and vintage looking clothes so one of the few stores I’ve bought from is https://www.etsy.com/se-en/shop/WearingHistory?ref=shop_sugg Wearing History, she sells patterns and some clothes.
I hope you all have a fun, relaxing weekend!
Firebird! So glad you were able to snag that one, Helene 🙂
And rock on with your nayeon!!
Haul: Tom Ford Honeymoon came in this week! It’ll probably take me until April to open it, but yay, it’s here! Also my Becca highlighters Opal and Moonstone came in – I think these will be special occasion or special placement highlighters because wow, that’s a lot of sheen. I’m going to experiment with it on my collar bones and shoulders/arms and legs because SUMMER IS COMING!!! I re-ordered Quelles Q’Fleur and that came in, but it doesn’t smell like it used to on me – I think my body chemistry is changing because it used to smell so lovely, truly floral but now it is starting to smell on the disinfectant side. I think I may be in the market for a new signature scent soon.
Weekend plans: I finished the pantry re-organization this week! I had planned to do it on Saturday, but I ended up finishing it up on Wednesday when we got the large glass jars for the flour and sugar. On Saturday I cleaned the house then went to Sephora, lunch and then wine-tasting (in that order – I have learned the dangers of going to Sephora after wine-tasting) with my best friend, came home and cooked my man dinner and watched our shows. Today (Sunday) I’m going to play with some makeup and then get my nails done.
Favorite Etsy shop: I don’t have one (yet!).
YAY! Honeymooon 😀 I’m so glad it arrived, Pearl!
