What was the last thing that made you smile? My husband always gets up early, and sometimes he drags the dog beds into his office (they are usually in the living room) so the pups nap while he is on the computer. Seeing them all cozy in there is just so cute! <3

Good luck with the quads! Yesterday I got my first order of the new Tom Ford cream release, including Platinum and Siren Blue. Today I should get the rest of my order with Opale and Sphinx and probably my Midnight Violet (which is being sent from the TF store nearest to me unlike the other shades). I also need to make my final decision regarding keeping the Shade and Illuminate for this year, which has been very love-hate for me so far (okay, more like like a lot vs dislike a lot).
Work and playing with the cream shades this weekend for me. Hope everyone has a good’un!

OMG..I’m the same with the shade & Illuminate! The cream blush to pale for a blush for me. I bought mine from NM. I will have to send it back if I return which became a disaster last time. The SA suggested using both shades as cream highlight or setting with powder blush. I don’t have the original Shade & illuminate. But, I was surprised at the short wear time and can’t get it to go over my foundation without lifting it.
The blush is even too pale for me and my Vampire skin. I did find I liked it more built up over a contour color as another, more blushy bit of dimension for some odd reason. There’s one use I’m REALLY liking it for though; the eyes! Have you tried it on the eyes yet? It gives a really nice highlighted, almost glossy-effect and actually stays in place. It also randomly works really nicely as primer for other eye shades (super weird but I used a mix of both the lighter and darker shades then changed my mind and did a blue smokey eye, but the shadow took to the illuminator like crazy!). Definitely try playing with eye looks if and only if you’re fully comfortable doing so. I did it at my own discretion and whatnot but I liked it a lot.
Definitely neither the highlight or blush shade is deep enough and is a bit too slippy or something. They both sheer so quickly! Sometimes I look at it and think, “No this looks really great!” And sometimes I’m wondering why I’m not bringing it back that second ha.
I have not tried it on the eyes! I will though. Do you love the original Shade & illuminate Celia? I don’t contour a lot. But, find I prefer a cream product when I do. Thinking about getting it. I was also told (by as SA, of course) that you need the TF contour brush to make it work its magic?
On this SS16 formula, I agree- it’s a downer. It looks so gorgeous in a swatch an in the pan. I haven’t returned it yet. I have this thing with TF. I did this with the ombres too. I tend to think it’s me. So,I will try everything to make it work! LMK if you find a way to make it work! lol!
Definitely give it an eye test if you’re up for it. I haven’t had any issues yet with that use and it makes obscenely good primer/just looks really pretty and sultry on its own. I don’t have the original, but I know lots of people who really enjoy it. I’m very picky about contour shades and find I tend to use singles I bought specifically for that purpose (particularly Illamasqua’s Hollow and my favorite, OCC’s John Doe) so duos don’t get as much attention from me usually. Definitely check it out first, though!
You absolutely do not need TF’s contour brush to use the products, though. Brands love to up-sell brushes and while Tom Ford’s are very nice quality for sure, you can use whatever contour brush you like for creamier products. If you love the TF one, for sure get it! But another brush you love will get the job done just fine (with all my fancy brushes, I still like some very basic Real Techniques ones for contouring). I understand why they do such a hard sell on the brushes, but truly I’ve never ever run into a product where the SA made that claim and really felt like the brush was the only brush.
I know what you mean about having a thing for not returning Tom Ford. I have a little bit of that, too. They’re such attractive products and having them in your collection can be nice and it’s hard to part with them, but let’s try to both be brave and maybe bring this thing back haha. There are going to be Summer releases coming up from TF with lots of pretty blushes and bronzey colors we could hold out for!
Who knows, though? Maybe trying it on the eyes will make it a keeper for you. I’m still debating a little. I think it’s likely I’ll return it and pick something from the summer line, but it is hard to part with even a subpar TF piece!
I will give it a try on the eyes when I get back from Az. I last tried it layered under a powdered blush as that was suggested by the SA. It worked ok and kinda gave a nice ethereal glow to it. But, it was still a total pain to get it applied in the first place and patched up my foundation. So, I had to fix that. It will have to be really gorgeous to be worth an $80 primer. I will see and report back. LMK what you decide. A return pact may be in order. ; )
Thanks for the info on the Shade & Illuminate and the brush. There is no TF counter near me. So, I have to rely on other’s opinions and reviews. I’ll check it out. the brush reviews are so either “love or hate” . I may wait on the brush. I feel like I’m well stocked on brushes that will serve the purpose. I can always pick up later. I also have other contour powders and creams including Kevyn Aucoin’s which works best for me I find. I just have been curious on this one.
I haven’t heard about the summer release yet coming from TF. But, I’m sure I’ll be drooling all over it . So, you’re right. If i don’t love it. I shouldn’t keep it.

What don’t like you about the Shade + Illuminate? Don’t have that, not sure about buying it!
Sphinx just arrived and it is SUPER cool. Definitely a standout! It looks so incredibly beautiful in the pot so I could just stare at that all day, but of course it also is magic on the eyes. The duochome is strong and lovely.
I would definitely not recommend the new Shade+Illuminate even though my feeling’s are mixed. It is super finicky. The texture is stiff, sticky, and slippy all at once so the resulting product is extremely sheer for both shades. Both the highlight and blusher/shader are extremely thin and lack any kind of pigment. Even on me the blusher barely showed up and took TONS of building (to the point where it was uncomfortably sticky) so I can’t imagine how it’s going to work on most skin tones if “white as paper” can’t get it popping. The illuminating shade’s subtlety was more anticipated but it’s still too sticky and subtle for me.
Weirdly, I like it a lo more for eye use than face use. Eye use has been great for me (probably those who can’t stand sticky lids will be less into this, but it’s a good way to get a glossy-look that stays put). But honestly, some of the cream shadows like Platinum also give that look. For the price, the pigmentation should be better and the feel. I’m just not sure how anyone even slightly darker than me can use it to shade or blush. It’s one of those TF products where the price seems unjustified due to the quality and potential lack of usability. Which is rare but always frustrating when it happens. I may still keep it for eye use. Mixing the two shades to make a blush-lighter sort of thing can work but there are so many better, more affordable, more versatile options for that.

LOL! White as paper. Gotcha. There are too many TF releases this spring, so I didn’t grab everything – that was on the “maybe” list depending on what else comes out (I prioritized the quads).
😉 hehe You definitely made the right choice. The quads are the most lusted after and the first I would review too in your shoes. The Shade+Illuminate is definitely a “maybe” kind of product 😛
Celia, what are your initial impressions of the cream shadows? Any must- haves in the group?
Hey, Tammy. Sorry to put this here but no reply button showing on your last post 🙂 So they’re all very high quality, on par with the previous iterations. I’d say it depends on what colors you have and use for the standouts (for example I haven’t picked up Burnished Bronze or Caviar yet since BB seems similar to Spring 2015’s release and atm I am good on black creams. Or Spice since I have it already. Caviar, Platinum, and Spice have all been released before for sure but are all great). I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend any of them and really like every one I have. Sphinx so far would be a top pick because the color is very unique, much different from Golden Peach. I’ve been wearing it today and it is lovely. Siren Blue would be up there too for that reason. Both of those are complex and have great duos to them. The multitonal aspect makes both very adaptable and interesting. They’re more layerable in a way than others. All are highly blendable but those in particular have layerability due to their color. They’re truly amazing colors that make it look like you’ve done a complete eye look with just one shade since they’re so light responsive.
If, however, you’re looking for mainstay and more neutral colors go for Spice, Platinum, or Opale (Opale being the lightest and coolest. Opale seems to be great quality but being a lighter, more champagne color it is more easily duped. So if you’re in need of a good cream champagne I’d recommend it, but if you’re looking for more unique options there are other choices). If Burnished Bronze is similar to Spring 2015 then it will be a great, rich shade. Seems like it could be more green. Midnight Violet I haven’t gotten to test yet since it arrived right before leaving for work so that Caviar, and BB I have yet to play with. But I’ll update on that when I have more weartime info for you and Wendy et all 🙂 Of course, since I’ve only played with these for a couple days I can’t test wear as much as I’d like yet but so far it seems they’re all long-lasting and easy to reapply as ever. They can be sheered or built with ease. I don’t regret any of them.
Sorry if that’s not super helpful but I’d say go with your gut or pick the more unique, hard to dupe ones.

Aw, thanks Wendy bb 🙂 I got to play with Siren Blue a lot yesterday and had fun with it! It’s a little patchy compared to some other shades, which is to expected with a lighter blue teal but that was easily fixed with touch-ups. Plus it made for some super cool green/blue eye looks. Mixes and layers really well. Platinum appears smooth and lovely as usual and wears like iron. Sphinx looks like magic and appears to be great, but I’ll update you after I wear test it. Same with Opale, which seems quite lovely. Let me know how you like the Touche Eclat foundation!
I’ve been loving the cream shadows! It’s nice to see another make positive notes on them! They work so well together too! Burnished Copper, Siren Blue and Opale are so pretty! Midnight Violet and Sphinx can do anything. Amazing! I only got the cream colors. No quads or shade and illuminate. Hope you figure out what makes you happy! I mix a white elixir with the palest of Asian foundations so you’re not alone as a vampire! ?

I also got 2 Le Soft perfumes in Parisian Rhapsody and Petit Fou: La reine soleil.
Weekend plans: My daughter’s 2 today so we’re having a little family party with both sets of grandparents, just nibbles, bubbly and cake. I am worried when you say Lipgloss on clearance, but those names don’t stand out to me and am wondering if that was the former formula, lol!
Hmmmm – could be old lip gloss…just fab – LOL. Well, not super worried bc if they suck, they were only $7 a piece and perhaps can be re-purposed over another lip product. I really did it for the deluxe samples. Wanted to try Aerin and thought both (Clinique one too) would be great in my backup bag I leave in my car. I try to rotate the cosmetics out of it more often that the standard since they are exposed to the changing weather.
I love Circa Rose (and Lucky and Cult)! Love Disco, too!

Oh cool, I always wanted to try purple hair! Purple shadow, blushes and lippies look great on me, why not hair? I re-tested the Ole Sugar Scrub, this time following the directions on the container, and unfortunately, I didn’t like it. I will re-purpose as a foot or body scrub. When applying it, the grains are fairly large and felt kind of scratchy to me, and it is oily, reminds me of a body scrub. It has a citrus scent ( mix of lemon, orange peel, and orange cream popsicle smell), and fragrance is near the top of the ingredient list, but my skin doesn’t like fragrance. I left it on for 10 minutes, the max time recommended. Then I massaged gently with some warm water. I noticed that the scrubbing particles either softened up to the point they weren’t providing any exfoliation, or the larger particles were a little too abrasive. Surprisingly, it rinsed off easily with warm water, but I didn’t feel like it really hydrated or exfoliated my skin that well, and that fragrance will eventually dry it out or irritate it. I also prefer chemical exfoliators a lot more ( salycylic acid, lactic acid, retinol, glycolic acid) than physical exfoliators, as they don’t scratch my skin, but I will use gentle, physical ones occasionally. I also tried following the different directions on the Sephora website (which was to apply a heavy layer) but it felt very heavy and oily, like my pores were suffocating, so that didn’t work either. It did get a lot of rave reviews on Sephora, so it works for others, but not me.
Katherine – Ick on the scrub! But thanks for the update! I’ll stick with the Mario Badescu Botanical I’ve been using along with the sample of ExfoliKate! I’m going to try out the purple possibly this Sunday. I like the fact that it’s temporary, esp. since my office is VERY conservative (if I actually have to go in). If you go to the Kevin Murphy website, he has a video of the Color Bug application so you can see it. I bought mine from Sleek Hair online but you can also get it online form Bangstyle (assuming you aren’t near a salon that carries the line).
No problem! Thanks for the tips on where to get the purple hair color -temporary sounds great, because my office is also kind of conservative. I feel like I’m in high school sneaking on purple shadow/blush/lipstick, but purple hair might be pushing it LOL
It’s funny, I meant Forward, not Lucky! I love Forward. Cult is pretty warm, warmer than most of the lipsticks I wear. It’s for when I want to wear a warm pink lip to go with something else. I haven’t tried a lot of things from the brand, but I do like the eyeshadows Royal, Heaven, and Hell, and their Custom Coverage Concentrate to mix with my all-mineral sunscreens. I’m going to try the lipstick ‘Black is Blue’ mixed with the Sephora Serenity shade.

I checked out the shadow shades you recommended. I think Heaven may be very close to the RMS shades I just picked up (Lunar and Myth). Dropped Royal onto my “Loves”. Wondering, it says Hell is a grey pearl with red undertone but it looks brown on the site – is it really grey?

Haul: All but one of the TF eye shadow creams I ordered arrived this week. Midnight Violet has not. I’m kinda worried about it. I called Tom Ford and left a message not long ago. I also got the Chanel Sunkiss Ribbon Blush,Bite Pastille :D,Too Faced Warm Glow and Wham, Chantecaille Just Skin tinted Moisturizer. My Ariana Grande Viva Glam gloss and lipstick arrived. I promised my daughter, Chloe, the gloss. But, I decided I needed one too. So, I had to get another. Good cause and will help me keep my Clear water even longer as I hold onto hope for another release. I put in my pre-sale for the MAC Flamingo collection.
Weekend Plans: I have a ton of errands and house chores. Oh geez, i need to get my toes done too! Then I need to pack for me and Chloe. We are coming to AZ. late Tues. Yep, leaving Tues. evening. My appointment is Thur. morning. We are going to head to Sedona after that for a couple of days. Thanks Nancy. I’m hoping for some resolution to the first surgery which once the numbness wore off really did nothing. But, that surgeon said there was something there. So, I’m not sure if he just was not trained properly or what. The doctor I’m seeing is though. Now that I have been trough the ringer, I know better unfortunately. Hopefully, he can help and it will be nice to enjoy some warmth too! I know I’m not want to go home!

They had an email alert that went out with a private link for people who signed up. They should be available to everyone in a couple weeks. I’ll get mine on Monday! I got #13.
Beautylish pushed back their release date to mid-Feb and offer a sign up for early notification. I was notified of the release of their current stock but was nervous to buy without seeing more swatches and I heard concerns that some shades are brittle, messy, or have fall out. People who have the shadows consistently rave about them, though.

Haul: NARS L’Amour, Toujours L’Amour palette (either like or love, even though it’s a bit dark for me, I need to use it a bit more), NARS Tarvos eyeshadow (love), Formula X nail polish in Brilliant (not so sure about that one, neutral polishes are hard for me to judge), exchanged the MUFE shadow that I accidentally bought in duplicate for D-868 Crystalline Pink, which I tried using as a highlighter first — it’s a bit sparkly for my taste for daytime wear as a highlighter, but should be fine as eyeshadow.
Weekend plans: work on my application to esthesiology school and start some job applications

I think it will, Christine! So far, so good anyway. Although the matte shadows I use for base and shading in/above my crease need more blending than I’m used to with the MUFE or Kjaer Weis shadows I use most often for that purpose although they do blend and look good, I just have to work at it a bit more). But so far I’m loving the shimmers I’ve used.
A dog like Mellan would make me smile all the time too! 🙂

Mellan: take that, Tom Brady! I crushed those Super Bowl dreams, just like I knew I would.
Haul: in addition to that mentioned in first of 16: CFX concealer: very thick, maybe too thick. At night, an eye wrinkle looked like a big ole hair. Quite not attractive. Wan’t bad in-store. And the Dusty Rose shade, from the Besame shade extension…probably at least five more…at S. That’s what to note, if you like Besame, ladies. ‘Course the 3 MUFE blushes are heaven. Dark purple pink is a nice combo of cool and deep, with a bit of muting. Nice with the Besame, which on me is mauvier than rose or pink. The Sephora nude set: interesting. On me, the Tarte runs orange-nude, Milky Way is slightly taupey, the Nudestix is pale pinky ( early 60s and retro to me), and Dolce Vita is sheer rosy nude. Had that in a palette. MLBB. Don’t like the Tarte formula as much as KVD at all.
Plans: SSDW, but skipped both day & night jobs today, bec gizzards are off. (My mum called anything south of the stomach ‘the gizzards’. and the doc is the gizzardologist.)
Smiling: it’s always Jussi. I grin like a fool in anticipation, every time I’m headed home. I am in love with that dog. PS, might be adopting a chihuahua, if it works out. If not, back to Little Paws Dachshund Rescue!

Weekend Plans: Schoolwork! But I’m so excited for all of my classes this semester, so it barely feels like work! I’m going to be talking to my dad again. His treatment is going well and he seems to be in much better spirits than he was even a week ago.
What was the last thing that made me smile? Probably during one of my classes this week. Now that I’m an upper-division student, I’m in more specialized classes and I have most of my classes with largely the same people, so even in just the week we’ve been back I’ve made some new friends!

haul: so sephora has a vib rouge event (all weekend I think) where they do like a lip makeover on you and you can try on different colors and if you spend more than $25 you get a cute little bag. anyway after trying them on I obviously had to have too faced melted chocolate cherries and Anastasia liquid lipstick in vintage (which sephora JUST started carrying). I also considered kat von d plan 9 but I wasn’t sure how often I’d wear it
plans: skiing on Saturday, doing homework on Sunday
last thing that made you smile: I got several compliments on the vintage lipstick after putting it on so that made me happy. it’s hard not to smile when you get a compliment (unless it’s creepy)
I hope Sephora carries more of the ABH makeup products!
Hail: this week was a huge Hail as there are Major sales here. Where I live everything is WAY more expensive so I took advantage of the sales lol. 2 YSL eyeshadow couture palette quints #5 and #6, 5 shiseido eyeshadow trios, Givenchy eyeshadow quad Inattendue, 5 Lancome 24hr artliner in turquoise, blue, jade, silver and chrome. Purple YSL mascara and the YSL touche eclat, 2 Pupa eyeliners and one Pupa eyeshadow stick.
Weekend plans: Friday night dinner with friends. Saturday just going to relax and then eventually clean the house.
Smile: my son and my 2 dogs:) and just spoke to my mom on the phone for 2 hours lol

Haul: Makeup-wise, the Urban Spectrum Palette came in! Geek-wise, I got a BB-8 necklace, BB-8 yoga pants, R2D2 & BB-8 magnets, and a shirt that was too big so I’m exchanging that had a BB-8 print.
Weekend plans: Calling up a vet in the area to figure out if they’re good for the cats and if I like them then setting up appointments for the fuzzballs. Also possibly finding a dentist in the area to set up my regular check-up, but that may have to wait because doing stuff to teeth when you have neck-based pain is not helpful and my teeth seem fine anyways.

Haul:UD Spectrum Palette!! I bought it as soon as my shift was over! Also, Bite duo lipstick in Latte/Cortado. TF La Creme lipstick in Ursula, UD eye primer, Smashbox lipgloss in Black Tied. I bought the Sugarpill liquid lipstick in Trinket within 2 mins. of it going live and the order went through, but then get I got an email the next day that it was accidentally oversold and I didn’t get it. ? At least the shade is permanent now so it will be shipped to me as soon as it’s available. As an apology, they’re also sending me a lip brush, so I’m not too bummed. ☺ Btw, I checked ebay and people are seriously selling the lipstick for $90+!

I think ColourPop has one shade – it’s a fuchsia shade – with subtle shimmer but not glitter.
