Neutrals — for years, I only liked brights, but they really grew on me.

I used to have trouble with pink, but I have learned how to wear it so that I don’t look like I’m sick! It’s now one of my favorite colors

When I was in highschool, I would only wear neutral eyes if I was wearing a bold lip. Bright colors were, and still are, more fun to play with than earthy tones because its more fun to blend into the different colors you were using and it’s eye catching on top of it. Now that I’ve been really into lipsticks the past several months, I’ve been able to appreciate natural colors more than I did.

For years, I stayed away from blue, as I was afraid of looking like a Barbie doll. That’s because as a kid, I used to sneak my mom’s frosty blue eye shadow and pile it on. But the Dior Bleu de Paris kit changed my mind– it has grayish blues that make the color so much easier to wear, and the colors make my brown eyes pop

Orange. I took one look at Blood Orange by Meow Cosmetics and that was it! I had to have it! One of my favourite summer looks is pairing it with Fyrinnae’s Hitched over a Fierce And Tangy base (my second orange purchase) and finishing it with either a teal or bright purple eyeliner.
Speaking of teal, that’s a colour I didn’t even own until a few years ago. Now it’s one of my most reached for eyeliner colours.

Anything dark. I’m redonkulously fair skinned and very rosy cheeked. It wasn’t I learned how to really perfect my base makeup and eyeshadow blending skills that I could make dark shadows look balanced and not like two black eyes.

Neutrals for me too. I guess that’s why UD Naked Palettes are so popular. Unfortunately they lean overall too warm for me. I know many people are tired of the UD Naked line, but I sure wish they would put out a cool to neutral palette that has the glitter shadows replaced by mattes so it’s more of a 50/50 matte/shimmer mix.

Silvers, greys, & taupes; I always loved them in the pan, and would often buy them, but I never liked the way they looked, until I dyed my naturally dark auburn hair black. After that, everything seemed to fall into place, but I had to stop using my warmer browns, golds, & bronzes, LOL!

Blue! I can still remember a beauty book called “Blue Eyeshadow Should Be Illegal” and that may be part of it but I also remember girls with really garish blue shadow worn from the lid practically up to the brow bone when I was younger. But some of the amazing blues and teals that have come out in recent years (MAC Birds+Berries, UD Haight, Evidence and Deep End) and some of the amazing dark blue and teal liner pencils work so well with my brown eyes if I use them judiciously. Enhancing rather than overpowering on brown eyes.

Blue. When I was a teen, ‘eyeshadow’ basically meant a robin’s egg blue color, which is not particularly flattering on me, and I just didn’t wear eye shadow until I started wearing purple in my early 20s. But now periwinkles, blue-violets, and deep blues are among my favorite eyeshadow shades.

same! i thought neutrals .. especially matte ones were lame and i was all about color and shimmer and glitter and now i’m loving mixing and matching neutrals and colors as well as mattes and shimmers..

Purples! When I first started using eyeshadow I had no idea how to blend and basically used the sponge applicators that came with the eyeshadow so purple eyeshadow always looked like I had a black eye. I read somewhere that purple eyeshadow would enhance brown eyes but after a few bad encounters with purples I never wanted to use them again. But now that I have good brushes and know how to blend, purple is my favorite color to work with because it really does work so well with my eye color.

Blues and grays. I never used to find them flattering on me, except for navy. Now there are so many color choices and finishes, it’s very easy to find flattering shades for both.

I’ve never been terrible fond of taupe. I always found it to be the eye color version of beige carpeting (read: boring). I’m starting to like some of the pink- and violet-tinged taupes that are out there, though. I may end up converted yet.

Temptalia, something I wanted to add to the deporting conversation. I am new to deporting and spent three days depotting all my stuff. Some people on your question line about deporting thought Chanel was too fragile to depot. Noooo, easiest of all my makeup. It is very easy to pry off the plastic coverlet in both the eyeshadow duos and the shadows. Once you do that, I used dental floss to pry the bottoms up and there was absolutely no damage to the powders. Looked better than the other brands, for sure!

Pink!

For years, I was dead sure that I couldn’t wear pink without looking like I had a nasty eye infection. But I actually look amazing in pink! I am twice as likely to buy a palette now if it has a decent pink shade (especially if it’s pink with a gold shimmer)

Blues! It was just recently called to my attention by Miss Christine herself that if I loved purple ,green, and orange tones and liked how they looked on me that blues(oarticularly turquoise) would work too for my hazel eyes! Thank you Christine! So, I am kinda opposite of your reply Christine. I used to do mostly nudes until the past couple of years, when I decided that was too boring all the time and realized that, duh! color can actually enhance one’s eye color. So, I try to pop color in at least a little most days.

Taupes and grays. I love gray, just didn’t find any that were work appropriate. Evening yes, I can rock a mean silver smoky eye. For daytime, I finally found some work appropriate gray eyeliners and eyeshadows to work with my coloring (NC50 with neutral undertones) without making me look sallow and weird. Taupe was just boring to me. Now I love duo chrome taupes, blue and purple tinged taupes. Taupe must have some texture/complexity to get my attention.

Brown. For decades I only wanted to wear purples, greens, blues, and silver/taupe. Now that I am older I see the value in basic brown matte. Love many MAC and Bobbi Brown shades and the Urban Decay Basics palettes… I can’t see how I ever lived without brown eyeshadows!

Natural colors. I used to stick with darker browns mostly, and some golds. Now I like a shiny but natural color shadow. I think it’s more flattering to my deep set eyes rather than those darker shadowy colors.

I had problems with crimson and burgundy but now I now how to use them so I have fun creating new looks all the time with these two colors <3

Neutrals for me, too! I used to think they were boring and would almost feel I wasted a day/possible look by not doing something colorful, but I’ve since come to love neutrals (the amount of neutral palettes I have… yikes!) and discover that one can still be creative with them 🙂
