A Look at Estee Lauder’s New Spring Palette

Estee Lauder Wild Violet Eyeshadow Palette ($42.00 for 0.27 oz.) is a new and limited edition palette just in time for spring. In the past year or two, Estee Lauder has really stepped up their game. I think they’ve been listening to evolving customer demands and have given their texture and themes some facelifts. I could still do with some tweaking of the packaging, but I very much appreciate their foray into color, into real color, and not just washes.

The palette contains five different shades: a soft, pale beige with a frosted champagne shimmer; medium-dark chocolate brown with subtle warm undertones in a shimmer-sheen finish; cool-toned gray-taupe brown with a satin finish; rich, smoldering; deep dark purple with white and blue flecks of shimmer over a matte base; and a brightened metallic copper. I think the shades individually are stunning, but the palette is an excellent composition of warm and cool, rich and luxe. With soft, silky smooth textures and beautiful color pay offs, all five eyeshadows are easy to use.

Do you remember NARS Daphne? There was a shade that swatched terribly but worked beautifully on the eye itself–the matte texture needed the delicate touch of a brush to work–but Estee Lauder gives us this rich, decadent purple that’s so deep and luxurious, like a violet velveteen. Estee Lauder’s violet is deeper and darker, while Daphne has a stronger bluer base and lighter overall look so it appears brighter.

FINAL THOUGHTS: I think going with a more neutral palette overall with that pop of violet in the center works well here. There is also a nice mix of cool and warm that it’s workable on both skin tones. One of the best palettes I’ve ever seen by Estee Lauder and an overall stunning palette–period.

If that is the one that has the sort of warm brown/orange shade in it, the shades appear to be very different.

This quint looks like the color payoff is excellent and the texture looks rich. The TT one is very chalky feeling to the touch and looks a little like its a film sitting on top of the skin. If you were trying to decide between the two, I’d go for this one.

Nicole Avatar

Thanks SO much ladies!
I was watching Michele1218 on Youtube and seen that TT quint. This is the second time I’ve heard that it was chalky. Think I’m gonna go with this one.

I don’t need another neutral palette, but I will be hunting down a single eyeshadow that’s similar to that amazing violet!

The chocolate brown definitely looks like an exact dupe of NARS Cordura.

Just added in my wish-list…. I love estée lauder, so I naturally added in my wish-list without having swatched it. One color reminds me mac amber lights Or I see mac everywhere (tu vois mac partout) as some friends usually say.

looks lovely & quality too, but am I the only one to expect more than one tiny purple in a “wild violet” palette? just a personal impression, I’d have liked at least 1 more purple but mostly just because browns aren’t my cuppa

nice palette though. I think the prettiest EL I’ve seen so far is their smoky quad (which I’m trying to justify). I don’t buy many palettes because of they include such a huge selection of them in the annual blockbusters (which is better spacewise as well as value).

anonymous Avatar

I know. I think I have dupes on all of them 🙁

but that’s ok. I still love the brand & I could easily spend a fortune there and still not have everything I liked lol

Wow I loooove this palette! I just got it at the Estee Lauder counter, and I’m obsessed with it. I wore it for 12 hours and it was still flawless. I’ve never used gold and purple together in a look, but the makeup artist at the EL counter did an incredible look and I just adore it! Woww I am definitely headed back for more EL soon. I hope you do a look with this palette, Christine – I know it would be gorgeous!

EL has great quality. skincare is even better than the MU but doublewear mascara & concealer <3

I have no idea why they are so good but they do. and I've tried a ton of stuff that cost way way way more and I'm tired of looking this much older. back to the good stuff. (I'm almost sure EL, MAC, & Clinique are all sister companies)

i just bought this last week to include in my estee lauder spring collection review video – i’ll be honest i was planning on reviewing it, then returning it – lol! but i have been loving it SO much that i’m totally keeping it! the colors are beautiful and really versatile! (i even love that coppery gold shade) – these will compliment my other existing shadows beautifully! 🙂

Hi!
How the copper color of this palette compares to the one that appears in the extravagant gold palette: are they the same color or this a very close dupe?
Thanks in advance!

Oh, that purple… I need that purple! I have Daphne, but I rarely use it because it’s kind of a pain to blend it in really well. I think I might actually pay $42 just for that tiny purple bit. I guess I’d use the other colors, but I’m all in a tizzy over the purple.

Paige Avatar

I really want to stop by EL counter to check this out but a snow storm is coming. I guess I will have to hold off for a few more days 🙁

Such pretty colors and the texture looks really nice just from looking at the pictures. You are right, EL has really stepped up their game.

This reminds of the Guerlain Ecrin 6 palettes minus the liner shade and the pretty packaging (of course also minus the price). I loved their holiday gold palette but I gotta say skip on this.

Anitacska Avatar

The Guerlain palette (68 Champs Elysees) is much cooler, the browns aren’t this warm. I’m struggling to see how you could use all the shades together (a look perhaps, Christine?) because the purple doesn’t seem to fit with the others. Anyway, I have the Guerlain palette, so I’ll probably skip on this.

Natalie Avatar

I love wearing neutral palette with purple shadow as a liner. It just gives a ‘pop’ of color in a very subtle, classy way 🙂 Also I think Sheila might have been referring to Rue de Francs Palette, not Champs Elysees?

Stacey Avatar

If you haven’t already, I’d just love to see you do an eye look using these colors, especially that beautiful violet. I love browns and bronzes, but I’m not sure how to use the violet with them.

Nic Avatar

I won’t be getting this just because I don’t need all the colors in it, but I am really impressed by the purple. Before I saw the swatch, I assumed it wouldn’t be very pigmented, but it is! Very pretty.

Michelle Avatar

I have this pallete! It is one to die for! Use it almost every day especially with their Black Plum Double Wear eyeliner pencil to line my eyes! Beautiful!!! GO LAUDER!!

Sam Avatar

I have just received it and played around with, and it is amazing!! the gold colour has a great payoff and it is not as warm as I expected (I am NC30). I really recomend it. I also own Surreal Violet and the Dahlia one, but this one is even better.
