Estee Lauder Blackened Plum Pure Color Intense Kajal Eyeliner

Estee Lauder Blackened Plum Pure Color Intense Kajal Eyeliner ($20.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a deep blackened purple that leans a little cool-toned. It’s not quite your violet, blue-based purple, but it’s nowhere near eggplant or burgundy. I couldn’t think of anything that comes close to the level of darkness (without being black)–the closest purple I could think of was L’Oreal HIP Violet Volt, which is much lighter and shimmery to boot!  Between the darkness and not-quite-cool-tone, I think this will be an excellent alternative to black eyeliners on all skin tones and against all eye colors.  It’s a great way to accent a smoky eye!

The pigmentation is impressive, because it’s really rich and opaque in a single pass, which is what we all want, and we don’t always find it, especially in purple eyeliners–too often purple eyeshadows and eyeliners seem to skip and drag. Blackened Plum is decadent in texture; creamy enough to glide-on effortlessly and give great color in one go but still stays in place once you apply it. It wore for ten hours without fading or smudging on the lash line, though the water line was only around six hours.

Eek! I’ve always loved rimming my waterline with purple eyeliner because it brings out my green eyes, but I can never find one that lasts! I might have to give this a shot!

lovely color Christine.. Is it ok for waterline ? does it have any shimmer ? and do u need to warm it up with hair dryer or something before putting it on or is it too soft that needs to go in freezer before sharpening ?

When I swatched these at the Estee Lauder counter I felt that this one was very similar to Too Faced’s Perfect Eyes Eyeliner in Perfect Black Orchid. Course I didn’t have them both to swatch side by side, I could only recall from memory.

After reading this review and Blackened Olive’s I just had to check Estee Lauder’s website out just to see all shades available 😀

Christine, I have cool undertones, very fair skin, almost black hair and blue eyes, which color do you think could suit me best? I’m afraid I could only afford one of these gorgeous eyeliners. Also, the fact that some of these are limited edition makes me kind of nervous 😉

Thanks! As someone said before, you are by far my favorite blogger!

I echo Christine on Electric Teal. It’s a really beautiful color in person, and I’ve got the same fair skin and cool undertones as you.

Though, I should add that you should probably considering getting it soon if you really like it. The sales clerk I spoke to said they couldn’t keep it on the shelves!

It’s already sold out on their website! 🙁 I guess I’ll just have to go to Sephora and search for it (they don’t have an online store here in Spain).

Thanks, girls!

I saw this when I went into Nordstrom’s the other day to buy the Electric Teal version and almost nabbed it. I might have to go back, since I’ve been looking for a good, dark violet for a long time. Good thing it’s not limited edition. 😀

By the way, did you see the colored mascaras designed to match these pencils? I thought they were a really cute touch.

Veronica Avatar

Haha, that’s true. I’d have totally grabbed the violet one if I’d have had any hope of it showing up on me. I thought it was cute they went with a complete look for the collection, though.
