Estee Lauder Blackened Black Pure Color Intense Kajal Eyeliner ($20.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a rich black with a mostly matte finish. It has excellent color payoff in a single stroke. I love how creamy this formula is; it glides on easily, evenly, and delivers full color without having to go back and forth. Despite the creamy consistency, it stays put–it doesn’t smudge, budge, or migrate on the lash line during the day. It doesn’t wear quite as well on the lower water line, but it did hang on for five to six hours.

This deep of a black is not impossible to find, but not every brand makes it. Some notable shades that are going to be similar in depth would be MAC Black Black and Urban Decay Perversion.

Well, isn’t that an original name, like mac’s black black:) I have black black among many other black pencils but I am looking for something that can be smudged easily for basic quick smokey effect,Mac kohls work in this way but don’t last on my oily eyelids,I am curious to find out how this one would work.

To be honest, I’m a bit tempted to buy this product because of your review, Christine! *lol* 😀

I’m not a big fan of kajal/kohl liner because every products I’ve tried smudge sooooooo badly on my very oily lids & watery eyes (perfect combo, huh? :/).

I commiserate with you on the finicky/watery eyes eyes. 🙁 I don’t have oily lids, but my eyes are very deep set and structured. I have to be very careful how I wing out eyeliner because the shape of my eye will actually cause it to crease and smudge if I line it too close to the indentation. I just flat out gave up on finding anything that stays on my waterline or bottom lash line without smudging – if I do a look with either, I just accept that it’s going to be a high maintenance look and have to spot check/fix the smudging every other hour.

I have the same problem w/ watery eyes and the only thing I’ve found that actually last on my water line is the l’oreal h.i.p. kohl pigment liners. I don’t think they are sold anymore but perhaps something similar would work for you too? The only other thing thats safe to put on my waterline is a white one from smashbox. Forget about UD and Nars. Haven’t tried any others b/c I’m afraid of investing more $ only to be disappointed. Nice to know that I’m notthe only one with this problem though. Good luck!
