Essie Summer 2010 Collection

Fresh for Summer with Essie’s Summer Collection

Essie’s Summer Collection features six shades of creamy summer colors. They dry pretty fast, and the finish is only slightly glossy, so I used Nubar’s Diamont Top Coat (it was the closest one at the time – no real preference!). I liked Knockout Pout and Pretty Edgy the most–very strong, opaque color and a fuss-free application. Vermillionaire applied the smoothest, and pros could probably get away with just one coat if they really wanted!  I felt like these applied better than the average Essie, which may just be because three of the shades are much darker (and pastels have a tendency to be fussier).

  • Knockout Pout is a brightened, glowing dark pink cream. It was pretty opaque in two coats.
  • Haute as Hello is a lightened coral-orange. I used three coats with this one.
  • Vermillionaire is a bold, deep orange. This one applied the best and only needed two coats.
  • Pretty Edgy is a dark, grassy green cream. It’s pretty much exactly the color of grass to me – suppose that’s quite fitting for summer! I needed three coats to get a completely opaque look.
  • Demure Vixen is a lightened mauve with pale purple shimmer. It’s a very soft, pretty color. The shimmer is incredibly subtle, but it’s there. It almost looks like a cream from a distance.
  • Miss Matched is a pale pink-lilac cream. I found this one to be the streakiest, and I definitely needed three coats with it. You can still see some of my nail line even with three coats.

  • Product: 27/30
  • Value: 8/10
  • Ease of Use: 4/5
  • Packaging: 4/5

Recommendation: If one of these colors grabs you, then it’s certainly worth checking out.  I don’t have anything quite like Pretty Edgy, but the other shades may be a little easier to find, depending on how extensive your stash is!

‘ Knockout Pout is a brightened, darkened pink cream. It was pretty opaque in two cats’

… Brightened, darkened? Huh?! Haha oh and maybe you’ll notice the ‘cats’ instead of ‘coats’ lol.

I am loving this collection! Think I might purchase the whole set 🙂 thanks for the post Christine.

I recently bought Haute As Hello and Pretty Edgy, both which were recommended by Lorraine from TheCurrentCustom. I absolutely love the way Haute As Hello looks with a tan, its soooo pretty! Essie has been on a roll with beautiful collection this year! I can’t wait for what’s next!

I really want to buy a few of these polishes but every time I go to my ulta they only have the mini bottles and being the nail polish addict I am I need to have the full sized bottles!! lol Thanks for the swatches christine! can’t wait to get Haute as Hello!

Niki Avatar

Hey, am I the only one who absolutely HATES the green nailpolish?! LOL! I just can’t stand any green nailpolishes! Other than that, I definitely love the bright and warm colors! The first half of the collection is so nice! The second half — ehhhh. :-\

But I definitely see an Essie purchase in my future. (:

I bought the four pack recently because I REALLY wanted Haute as Hello and Pretty Edgy in particular (green is my favorite). Pretty Edgy didn’t disappoint, but I don’t know why, but I absolutely hated the formula on Haute as Hello. I’m not really fussy about formula, really, but it was so finicky and thick for me. It was so strange! I haven’t tried the Knockout Pout or the Demure Vixen, but hopefully soon! I just put on a skittles manicure using the Zoya Sparkle collection so that may hold my interest for awhile (for once!).

I agree! Haute as Hello is beautiful but a pain to apply! I just painted it on my toes and it was a disaster! It went on so unevenly. At two coats it was ok but not completely even. I found it to be a huge disappointment, the color is just gorgeous & caught my eye instantly, but it is so different to apply.

The colors look lovely but I know Essie collections are tricky. I’ve got their last 3-4 collections but I can seem to find more than 2 good nail polishes in every collection. Although the colors are beautiful, the application is a hell sometimes, they chip in 2-3 days or even after I layer 3 coats the color still doesn’t look good (leaves lines behind or some spaces look transparent). Is also the lucky part where you can buy only those 2 or 3 colors from the collection that are really worth having it.

LOVE Knockout pout, pretty edgy and miss matched. Vermillionare looked ok, but nothing that I would buy. The others were pretty uninteresting in my eyes.
I’m a bit sceptic to essie though, I bought a minipack with “ballet slippers”, “marshmallow” and their top coat a while ago. But they were almost impossible to use. They were very dry and “sluggish”, which made it very hard to get even coats. Anyone else had this problem with essie, or did I just get some bad (maybe old?) bottles? I kind of hope that they aren’t all that bad, because I really love their colors.

I am so glad I read this, I had Miss Matched in my shopping bag online, and switched it to Demure Vixen, which is more what I was looking for. Thank goodness for beauty bloggers b/c companies don’t seem to understand how to important it is to post accurate representations of their products! Thanks!

Pretty Edgy and Demure Vixen are gorgeous~
i definatly don’t have either of those colors in my stash, so i’m excited to go check these polishes out later!
thanks for the swatches ^^

Oh, Demure Vixen must be mine!!

You do make Vermillionaire look fabulous, though! Sadly, I learned my lesson with OPI’s A Good Mandarin is Hard to Find — I got talked into it, then hated it and gave it to a darker-complexioned friend.

UGH! I keep going to my local trade secret to get this set and they have yet to get it! I have been in love with it since the first ad it was in in Glamour! Now that you have given me swatches, I am even MORE in LOVE with the colors and have to have them! I don’t have anything in my nail color collection that look like them! How much fun these colors are!!!!! Thanks!
