Dolce & Gabbana Desert Bronzing Powder Review, Photos, Swatches
Dolce & Gabbana Desert Bronzing Powder
Dolce & Gabbana Desert Bronzing Powder ($68.00 for 0.35 oz.) is a slightly muted, medium brown with warm, yellow undertones and a satin finish. Urban Decay Naked on the Run Bronzer (LE) is lighter. MAC Matte Bronze (LE, $70.00) is less yellow. Tarte Park Ave. Princess (P, $29.00) is darker. MAC Love, Rihanna (LE, $25.00) is warmer. Wet ‘n’ Wild Bikini Contest (P, $3.99) is darker. MAC Soft Sand (LE, $25.00) is darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
The version pictured in the post is the Collector’s Edition, though the color itself is available year-round in the permanent collection (without the red lacquered case and design on the powder itself) for $51. I believe the permanent version has no shimmer overlay, as the Collector’s Edition had a ton of bronzy shimmer (which I did my best to remove prior to swatching) on about half to two-thirds of the surface of the powder. It’s not too yellow or orange, but it is likely a better fit for warmer skin tones. The texture is soft and finely-milled but somewhat powdery, and it tended to sheer out more readily as a result. It had buildable coverage, but I felt like you had to be careful not to blend it too much or else it would disappear. It lasted for six and a half hours, which is on the shorter side for face products on my normal skin.

PPermanent. $51.00.

I’m a Latin student and if make-up by Dolce & Gabbana was sold here in Austria, I just would have to buy this bronzer simply because the pattern on it looks like a Roman coin!
Carpe diem, Christine! 😀
Kathi
It is a very cool design!
Your makeup looks really lovely in that picture. The bronzer and lipstick look amazing with your skintone.
Thank you, Laura Lou!
My coins with the images of the past presidents look better than this and I am keeping my dollars instead.
LOL!
Good one Stacey!
lmao!
Maybe it might work for very light warm tones. Like NC 10 – 15?
Possibly!
The packaging is very pretty and elegant, love the Roman stamp design on it. But this color is better suited for warmer, medium skin tones than mine. It’s too bad about the formula and application. At this price point, it has to perform better
I wish it wore better!
I thought it looks super promising, but I guess it’s not the best bronzer ever 😉 I do like how it looks on you, but I prefer a bronzer that I don’t have to blend like a maniac because it’s too dark nor carefully layer because it sheers out too much. Still, that pattern is nice to look at!
This is best for someone who wants almost no color but feel like they’re applying color, I think! It just disappears so easily!
i’m not much of a connoisseur of bronzers (heh), but I do like ancient coins! ^_^ I wonder if the kind of famous coin-decorating city in Sicily (identified by the KATANAIWN – using w for omega here) has a particular significance for D&G, or if they just saw a coin they liked?
They might have a blurb about it on their website, though I’m not sure!
Thanks for the review. This is weird because I have the regular Desert version and it doesn’t have the yellow undertones. It’s described as medium tan with pink undertone, and I think it does have a pink undertone to it. This version looks way different. I may have to re-swatch mine to see if it has been lacking pink undertones all this time (and has yellow instead). I think I may have noticed but I haven’t used the Desert bronzer in months now.
I think there’s pink in it, which is what gives it a more muted quality, but it’s still tan/brown and warmer (definitely not cooler-toned, though)!
Cute shirt! That neck line is perfect for you.
I don’t understand stuff like this. It’s so expensive for one product that doesn’t even perform well? Meh.
Thanks, Kat 🙂
I’ve been looking at this for ages and just wanted it for the packaging and print, mostly. But I don’t think it would work on me so I’m glad I held out. Thanks for the great review, as always!
No problem! 🙂
I love the color on your skintone, but I am afraid it wouldn’t be as pretty on my pink toned skin. Such a beautiful case and in-print, though!
It is a cool design choice!
I am totally enamoured with the packaging but since I’m not one of those people who would buy products just to collect I don’t see the point if the buying it. It is still ever so pretty.
Me neither! I want products that work and are pretty!
It really is a shame that these don’t perform better. At this price point they should…
I agree!
I really wish this had more of a sheen or some shimmer. It’s gorgeous in the pan but it looks meh in the swatches and applied. I’m disappointed
The bronzer looks great especially that queen print but those shimmers are a slight put off and the shade would surely not show up on my skin 😛
