Do you use wish lists to keep track of products you want? How do you use them?
It’s more in my head than anything else, and for beauty products, I’m fortunate enough to test most of what catches my eye without having to put it on a wish list. For non-beauty, though, I keep it in my brain and then come holiday or birthday time, then I try to put a few things on a wish list for others to purchase.
I sure do! I wish the wish list or favourite feature on Makeupalley was easier to use but the wish list feature here at Temptalia and the one at Sephora are really helpful for me to keep track of things I might want to get (like the recent Lancome lipstick you reviewed and the Sephora shadows I might pick up – those shadows are on my Sephora wishlist because I don’t think you’ve reviewed them).
I think I am the only person in the world who uses the ‘Loves’ list from Sephora for products I actually love and want to repurchase. Everyone else uses it as wishlist. 😅
I use it both ways!
For cosmetic related purchases, I don’t necessarily have a wish list. But in my inventory of products I have a note section where I wrote down sometimes a product I want to try out next, even if it’s a new foundation or a similar eyeshadow color.
For non-cosmetic purchases I have lists on several spreadsheets, depending the object (clothes, electronics, household items). I shop around multiple website and it’s easier to track multiple links in one excel.
Oh, my gosh! I love the idea of using spreadsheets to track and price-shop for wish-list items. I’m definitely implementing that idea. Thank you for sharing it!
While I do maintain a wish list on here, it’s the truly MEMORABLE items that need no wish list because those just stay at the front of my mind for future good or fantastic sales! Right now, I’m in a tug of war with myself as to which of two palettes to get during VIB sale.
There is generally only a couple of beauty products at a time that I really want. Most of these seem to come out during your autumn/winter collections – which coincides with my birthday and Christmas. So these beauty products – generally an eyeshadow palette or two, tend to be given to me by my adult sons for my birthday or as Christmas presents (Last year it was By Terry’s Bonjour Paris for my birthday and Lorac’s Fairytale Forest for Christmas).
Other than that – I don’t really ‘use’ wishlists.
Haha! I use the love button as my wish list or I just dump everything I wish for in my shopping carts and think about it.. eventually weighting the pros/cons did something come out that is better? do I really need it? etc.. and then when I am ready to pull the trigger per se I just take out the items I really don’t need.. I have love/wish lists all over the place Sephora, Ulta, Beautylish… and I shop on the brand websites a lot because I typically find way better deals and sales.. Pat McGrath NARS, MAC…. Dose of Colors.. which I love and people don’t seem to talk about much…
Most of my purchasing is done online, and I generally buy whatever appeals to me after letting it sit in my shopping cart overnight. If I haven’t talked myself out of it by the next day, I either buy it at the store or hit the “Place Order” button online. The one exception is lipstick because A) I already own more lipstick than a woman could use in two lifetimes and B) I have a difficult time determining exactly how a lipstick color will look once it is on my lips. So, my lipstick rule is that impulse-purchases of lipstick must be under $12 and all other lipstick purchases must be contemplated for at least 3 days as well as fit into some unfilled niche of my inventory. So many times I realize that a lipstick that seems to be calling to me is almost the exact color and texture of one of my existing lipsticks! Once in a while, I realize that and STILL buy it 3 days later! 😉
I use old-fashioned pen & paper… There’s a sort of satisfaction from physically crossing items of the list, whether I actually purchase or simply change my mind. Most of the items that go on list are those that were around before I discovered a brand, or if there are various shades I want from a new collection/product launch. I’ve pretty much decimated all my recent lists, as I currently have the means to purchase as collections are released, but I still use them to narrow down specific shades so ordering online is easier due to inaccurate swatches.
I use the wish list here. It’s so easy. I go through it now and then, removing LE’s and DC’ed items. If I am to shop at any sale I use the WL to see what I wanted after reading the review. Of course I use it in the same way when not shopping a sale, but I try to buy during sales to save a little. If there’s an LE product I really, really want I buy it immediately. I remove from the WL and add to the vanity after purchases.
I do use wish lists at some retailers, not Sephora though as that site kicks me out ever time I try to use it, it’s not the US Sephora, it’s the local one.
I have lists on paper for books I want to buy or read, the same for films, unless they are on one of the streaming services, there I use their lists.
I don’t keep lists for other things, except food. I always make shopping lists for grocery shopping.
I generally don’t keep lists of Beauty products I want. I usually buy during sales and just refresh my memory with different brands then. There are so many products that I come across that I think I want but then forget about. I figure that if I forget about a product then I didn’t really want it that badly in the first place.
I do have wish lists going in several places but I have to admit, I frequently forget to go check them and end up never ordering some of the things I really wanted to try. I am the sort of person who does most things in my head. I have a priority system in my head. I think that stems from my nursing career. As a nurse you are constantly re-prioritizing the things you need to do as you work through the list. You never know when you will have to bump something up to emergency status and that pushes everything else down the list. So, if it isn’t something I can keep clear in my head, I am likely not going to go back and check it!
