Do you use a separate makeup remover for eyes?

Do you use a separate makeup remover for eyes? Or do you have one multi-tasking makeup remover (or cleanser)?

If I do heavier eye makeup, then I use a separate eye makeup remover like Lancome Bi-Facil, because I find it’s easier to remove eye makeup first, and then remove face makeup. Then I don’t end up with eyeliner and green eyeshadow running down my face!

Oops I just now realized I forgot to finish this comment last night. Anyway, what I do is get a cotton pad wet with water, add a drop of jojoba oil, and it takes off my makeup – including waterproof eyemakeup – like magic. And, since jojoba oil is so good for the skin/ close to the skin’s natural oils, I don’t need to wash it off – there’s generally very little excess oil on my face after, but I just rub in what is left. Super easy and works better than any makeup remover I have ever tried.

I try to avoid it, because I wear contacts, and I’ve never found one that doesn’t make my eyes blurry. I will only use it if I just can’t get it all off with my regular makeup remover

You should try Sonia Kashuk eye make up remover! It’s super gentle. It’s a dual thingy. It’s $10 at Target. I wear contacts and it hurts when I use make up wipes on my eyes. It’s cheap and you only need cotton pads to remove heavy duty eye make up!

Melene Avatar

Aren’t you supposed to remove your contacts first before removing eye makeup? That’s how my doctor told me, which works best for me ^^

Try the Mary Kay eye makeup remover. I know most people don’t like MK, but really I find this remover melts off the eye makeup with ease, doesn’t leave my contacts blurry, and if you then wipe any residue off with a wet washcloth, you can dry and apply a new eye look.

Try Lancome Bi-facil if you have not already. It’s expensive, but it is so gentle you can literally pour it into your eye and there is no irritation or blurry vision afterwards. And, even though it so so gentle, it cuts through my makeup like nothing I have ever used before.

The really oily stuff, like Almay, sticks to your eyelashes and makes your eyes blurry whether you have contacts or not. Which is annoying, but it works.

Yes. I wear waterproof mascara and I’ve never found an all purpose cleanser good enough to tackle that or an industrial eye makeup remover light enough to use all over my face. I use cheap ol’ Abolene for my eyes. My mom’s been using it since before I was born and I’ve never found something I like as much when it comes to really stubborn liners and mascaras. Plus it’s dirt cheap and a tub lasts forever!

yes boots botanics soothing eye make up remover, its so gentle, you shake it to mix, plus its very cheap to buy. ive used for years on my sensitive eyes and never had a problem.

I use face wipes to take off most of the surface makeup, then go to town with Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish to get everything else, including my eyes, as it doesn’t sting 🙂

I don’t normally use a separate makeup remover for my everyday makeup. However, when I’m going out and I have a cream base on my eyes and heavy eyeshadows on top and waterproof mascara, I’d use Pond’s Cold Cream. May sound really old school but this works wonders for me. It removes every bit of makeup on my face as it moisturizes.

Maureen Avatar

I was using this for a while. The wipes dried my skin out hardcore. The cream is good for me if I don’t use it every day… I like it better as a masque really.

When I do heavier eye-make-up, I use Nars eye make-up remover. Otherwise, I just use Bioderma H2O micellar solution, and it works really well for my sensitive skin.

Megan Avatar

I use Estee Lauder’s Eye Makeup Remover if I’ve done heavy or glittery makeup (it’s the only one I’m not allergic to!), but generally I use Liz Earle’s Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser on my whole face as it removes eye makeup too.

ilaria Avatar

No I don’t. I use clinique take the day off cleansing balm. the best makeup remover i’ve ever tried. If my makeup is heavy on the eye I remove firts eye makeup and then face makeup, but with the same product.

Mariella Avatar

Sometimes I do. I’ve got 3 and I go back and forth with them – Clarins, Clinque’s Take the Day off and Clinque’s other one (in the blue/green bottle…I can never remember the name). If I’m wearing a lot of eye makeup, especially liner and mascara, I will use an eye makeup remover because I find it difficult to remove what’s smudged into my bottom lashes otherwise. But most days, I just use a wash off general face cleanser.

I always use a different makeup remover for eyes: I have and use both a cheap supermarket brand (L’Oreal) as well as a fancy Avène one. The L’Oreal one removes makeup reasonably, but is a bit harsh on the skin. The Avène one is very gentle, but it’s pants at removing the makeup. So I usually end up using what works best and quicker (L’Oreal). 🙂

Crystal Avatar

Yeah, I use The Body Shop Chamomile eye makeup remover. It works really well and doesn’t sting or make my eyes blurry. I just use my normal face wash (Palmers) for the rest.

Monique Avatar

I tend to use a separate eye makeup remover, just because my eye area is so sensitive that if I try to use makeup remover cloths in that area my eyes get irritated

StephanieM Avatar

I do use a separate eye make up remover. I’m very acne prone and I’m afraid that if eye liner makes it onto my face when washing, I might break out!

I’m between MAC Pro eye make up remover and Estee Lauder gentle eye make up remover right now…I definitely would like to try Lancome Bi-Facil as I’ve heard many good things!

Julia Avatar

I am the exact same way! If I am wearing an involved eye (liner, dark eyeshadow, etc.) I will do Bi-facial on my eyes first with a cotton round, then follow up by washing my entire face with olay regenerist cream cleanser. However, if I am wearing a more casual eye, like a wash of color and one coat of mascara, I skip the remover and just wash my face.

Lisa Avatar

I use good old Ponds cold cream to remove all my makeup!!!! My grandmother used it and when she passed at 83 yrs old she had the skin of a woman in her early 60’s. It works it’s cheap and good for all skin types.

Angela Avatar

I use a separate mascara remover to remove stubborn waterproof mascara, but I use the same makeup remover for the rest of my face. If I have heavier makeup on, I like to cleanse with extra virgin olive oil, and if my makeup is lighter, I use wipes.

sam Avatar

i was using lush’s 9 to 5 for my entire face but was going through it too quickly so now i just use it for my eyes and i use lush’s aquamarina for my face

Maureen Avatar

No. For a long time I didn’t even remove my makeup at all (sometimes I still don’t) and I hate washing my face at a sink (it’s messy, water goes everywhere). I usually use a Yes To Blueberries cloth and sometimes also Clinique toner on my face (not eyes). I don’t have to worry that much… I probably couldn’t break out if I tried.

Yess I do. I wear contacts, so after I remove them I take my eye makeup off with Neutrogena Oil Free eye makeup remover. Then I use the Neutrogena Makeup Remover Night Calming Wipes to remove my face makeup. I found that’s what works best for me.

Lisette Avatar

Unrefined coconut oil works great for my eyes and face to remove any makeup, even waterproof stuff. Makes my skin baby soft afterwards too. I know some people use olive oil, but that’s too heavy for me and I can’t handle the smell.

Niki Avatar

I use Sweet Almond Oil for both and then I put a little Avon Eye Effective Makeup Remover on a Q-Tip to get all the residual makeup.

kurisu Avatar

Christine – I feel the same way! I find that eye makeup can easy migrate/fade/crease, etc. than face makeup, so I always use an eye primer. Longetivity means more difficulty in removal!

Lancome’s Bi-Facil does wonders. It’s very gentle and removes makeup in seconds! Sonia Kashuk’s eye makeup remover comes in a close second. Have you tried it?
There are many days where I will only wear eye makeup (no face powder, blush, contour, highlighter, etc. none at all!) and I only need to remove eye makeup. :]

Dani/NotAVampireLvr Avatar

I use make-up remover cloths for my face… then I use the same cloth and get off what I can on my eyes. I then use an eye make-up remover before going to wash my face in the sink. My favs are Neutragena, Mary Kay and Loreal. I currently am finishing up a bottle of Almay, but it really stings my eyes way more than the others if it accidentally dribbles in my eyes.

Christelle Avatar

I wear contacts too but I take them out first before anything else. I then use 2 separate makeup remover wipes usually Nivea ones. One for eye makeup and then one to
Clean up my face. Fast and easy ! Then I usually splash cold water on my face to freshen up and that’s it !
