Do you plan your makeup looks in advance?

— Christine
Sort of! I have an idea of what products are next to test, so it’ll often be products pulled from that. It’s more of a running list in my head/stacked on my vanity than an official plan./weekly_feature]

Please help us streamline the comments' section and be more efficient: double-check the post above for more basic information like pricing, availability, and so on to make sure your question wasn't answered already. We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

strangely, I like to ‘plan’ makeup looks before I go to sleep. I think i find it therapeutic tho i can never remember them in the morning.

I wouldn’t say I plan my looks in advance, but if i’ve got a new product like a lipstick or a palette, i’ll often think of the time when i can finally break it in and how i’ll tailor my other makeup around it. Oh and if i’m going out that day because my makeup may need to be mask approved!

Unless it to special occasion, I do the same look for the whole week to cut down on any chaos in the morning. I enjoy my morning routine (skincare, makeup) and getting ready for the day. I shop my stash on Sunday nights and set up my glam tray for the week.

I really like this idea. I don’t feel the need to vary my looks from day to day (my “look” tends to be the same 365 days a year) but I really like the idea of cutting down on chaos in the morning in this way and it would also be a good way for me to use some of the e/s palettes I have more than just sporadically! I’m going to be trying this, Pearl – thanks for the inspiration!

If I’ve purchased something new that I’m excited to use, I’ll make sure that it’s in a look I’m going to be doing in the next few days. And often, reading here or thinking back on products I have and don’t use often enough, I’ll make a point of getting out XYZ palette or blush and using it rather than letting it sit in a drawer.

Not really. For special occasions like holidays or sporting events I have an idea of what I want (ie: wearing team colors or wearing one of my extremely glittery formulas) a few days out, but I never pick the actual products until I’m ready to do my makeup. I may plan to wear a certain product, like a new lipstick, and base a look around that so I guess pre planned for one product… but still all on a whim with everything else makeup wise!

When I am putting out my clothes in our ensuite bathroom ready for the next day, I do think about what eyeshadow palette I am going to use to complement the overall look. Ditto for hte lipstick.
Having it all in my mind helps to ensure that I am organized for the following day.

Not specifically. I do pull out a few palettes and coordinating lipsticks, blushes etc. for the week but I don’t mentally sketch out particular looks beforehand. The most planned I’ll get is wondering what certain colors would look like together, if I could pull off doing a certain technique or deciding I want to work with a specific thing and let everything else fall in place around that.
