Yes I do. Since autumn is my favourite time of year, I always liked them. I’m older than many here and remember (before the Internet) Estee Lauder’s, Ultima II’s and Dior’s seasonal magazine ad campaigns and they were stunning. Karen Graham (I think that was her name) was the “face” of Lauder and I distinctly recall one fall release from which I purchased several items, including an all time favourite lipstick (no, NOT CRAVING) called Datenut Red (or perhaps that was the name of the blush from the same release). It featured Graham sort of “harvesting” apples! But I don’t read fashion mags any more (if they’re even carrying big ads for the makeup companies – I think this was discussed within the last few days – a thread about makeup inspirations – so here, at Temptalia, is the only place I am likely to see anything about ANY releases!
I remember those days also Mariella and Lancome with Isabella Rosselini. Also Lauder with Elizabeth Hurley.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane! The big fall campaigns were wonderful. They were my gateway into makeup. I remember when I was in 6th or 7th grade getting Seventeen magazine, around 1981 or 1982.
Maybelline had a multi-page insert following 2 teen models living their best lives. The aspirational insta-girlies of the day. If I am remembering correctly, one of them was Lori Loughlin. It had a storyline and a step-by-step list of products. I wanted the whole look, and I was a kid so I didn’t have any money. I was a bit sneaky, so I’d save the $1 a day lunch money. I don’t think anyone noticed that I was tossing an apple and a yogurt in my backpack and keeping the cash, lol. My friends and I would go to the drugstore after school and just obsess over the makeup. I was able to buy every item from my favorite look, one at a time. I’m pretty sure the “Dial a Lash” mascara was part of that look. It was as goofy as it sounds, but it seemed like it was some high-tech promise of a glamorous future.
I moved onto other mags as I got older, and I remember Cindy Crawford for Revlon and of course, Isabella Rosselini.
I absolutely agree with you Mariella, loved all of those magazine features that showed the latest and greatest of the makeup releases. I miss those days.
I remember Ultima II. Wasn’t Cybill Shepherd the spokesperson?
I think it was Lauren Hutton (at least when I remember it) and not so much a “spokesperson” as “spokes-face”.
Absolutely. I miss the olden days when I would get really psyched for well hyped MAC collections. Like the Villains collection. I was so excited to go to Macy’s right after work that day. I cannot tell you how long it’s been since I’ve felt that way about ANY new release by a mainstream company.
I miss MAC releasing their collections.
Me too 🥺
I miss it because when else are we going to get interesting color stories before holiday? Holiday releases are usually just best-sellers, minis, and bundles. Maybe a mega palette. I want a whole concept with the fall collection. I’d be happy even if the collection was a couple of lippies and an eye quad in interesting shades.
the only brands i really see releasing fall collections are indie brands and those are usually halloween inspired or themed
I’m not interested in seasonal collections, but I do miss the times there was an actual fall season in cosmetics… not an overflow of Halloween and Christmas launches starting in September.
Yes, because I usually wear fall collections during fall AND winter, and find fall releases such a nice change after trying to get by with the most minimal makeup possible during the heat of summer!
I definitely miss fall collections and for that matter winter also. There is a difference between winter and holiday. Traditional fall colors aren’t my thing but I do like seeing different tones of green and pairing them with more brown leaning fall colors. I don’t do bright oranges or dark reds very well but when they are more brown then pairing them with darker, almost dying, greens is something I miss. I love fall lipsticks and while they pretty much all lean warmer I can pull it off on my lips. If I use a more traditional fall colored blush and bronzer then doing a warmer look works for me.
As I mentioned a couple of days ago, I haven’t been wowed by any of the fall or holiday collections this year. I spent most of yesterday watching YT videos of the Pat McGrath release and I have to say, I am liking it more than I thought I would. At first glance it just looked like the same old thing but you have to hand it to her, she knows how to formulate her products. It isn’t often that you find eye shadows that are so easy to work with, have such nice pigmentation and practically blend themselves. So, I don’t know if you plan to review here on the blog or not but I am leaning more to picking a couple of the smaller eye pans and maybe one of the larger offerings. Are they a must have, probably not but there are some gorgeous colors mixed throughout the release. Oh, and some don’t have a gold in them at all, LOL!! That use to be my chief complaint, especially with the smaller pans as you only need so many golds. In these holiday offerings she also has quite a lot of palettes that don’t have all the reds/pinks that were in every palette for awhile.
Many of us taught school and around Labor Day was the mentally beginning of the year. To have a cozy new collection was great. To have winter collections foisted on us too soon is a travesty. Spring and summer em to have melded, too. Seems to have boiled down to a cooler and a warmer season. Yes, I too remember the faces.
And since there’s BTS season, makeup deserves a refreshing release, too.
Yes, I actually REALLY miss the yearly Fall MAC collections, since those and their summer collections always tended to be much better curated, well done hits! Now, I’m trying to remember when they last did either season. All I have seen lately is their winter holiday collection. Seems like they’ve slapped the snooze button on anything else the past several years.
Yes. Especially when brands are obsessed with the same warmer-than-warm color stories and rarely release cool colors. Fall used to be the time of year that I could find colors I liked, so now, yeah, I miss fall collections like crazy.
I sure do! Your autumn collections are what I live for (makeup wise, that is!) and when brands don’t do this, I feel like I am missing out. They often contain the shades, be it eyeshadows or lipsticks, that suit me (and probably Mariella) the best. I feel cheated.
The Holiday collections are no subsitute for a good Fall collection at all – quite often they are made up of substandard products that are a mish mash of colours.
That’s why I loved the Lorac’s Noir and Soleil palettes coming out – the perfect autumn palettes.
Part of me wishes that fall in general weren’t ignored as basically, “summer’s over? Ok, Christmas prep time!!” Another part of me is glad for less stuff we don’t need. A third part of me knows that less fall stuff probably just means overcompensation of holiday stuff.
well… maybe I am a little fatigued with all of the make up releases because they are all the time… we don’t get a chance to breathe from all the new releases.. I was really going through my collection to determine my fall make up wardrobe..I mostly change the lip colors I use.. but I have so many already so I am not necessarily looking to buy more
Fall is a season or rich, deep neutrals and brilliant jewel tones. It’s a missed opportunity for companies that don’t offer autumn collections.
