Do you have a memorable stories about any products you own? Share one!
I definitely do! When I was first getting into makeup, there were more products that I bought because of a milestone or because I traveled somewhere. The product that has the most memorable story/meaning behind it was MAC Jealousy Wakes Eyeshadow… because I created it, so… I feel like that has to take top spot, LOL!
Not really memorable in a big way but I recall being in Montreal (I think to visit my younger son when he was there on a co-op term) and finding what must have been the VERY LAST pan of MAC Smoke & Diamonds in the province! I still recall my happiness at finding it when I wasn’t expecting to and every time I use it, I remember that. I didn’t buy much makeup when we took our cruise a few years ago but the 2 things I did get – a Kiko palette in Rome and a European version of Maybelline eye makeup remover, which is SO good and quite different from what’s sold here – are still pleasant memories!
Yes indeed, I do! Several years ago, UD came out with a true masterpiece of a holiday palette called Urban Spectrum. The problem was that back then, UD was playing games with the “very limited availability”. Each time it did become available, I was caught off guard, didn’t learn of it till it became too late and they were all gone again in a flash. Literally drove me *slightly* mad! And then, that winter, months later, they brought it back again. Unfortunately, I was between paydays. To my utter amazement, a fellow reader on here ordered it for me, and I paid for it via PayPal once I did get paid. I have never forgotten this beautiful act of human kindness to this day. I never will, either! As a result, this palette means so much more to me than just colors to apply to my eyes (which, BTW, it is still perfect for!), it proves to me that, yes, there are still some really good, kind, caring people left.
I might be tearing up just a tiny bit… that is such a lovely story!
What a beautiful story Nancy, yes there are still some good people left in this world.
This made me cry, in a good way.
I have Urban Spectrum and it is one of UD’s finest and that is a beautiful story. How kind was that fellow reader!
Thank you for sharing this lovely story.
I LOVE this! Stories like this help restore what little hope I have left for human beings. Thank you for sharing!
Yes ! I believe also that there are still some really good, kind, caring people left. There is not just the type of humans we hearing at news.
Wow! Almost unbelievable. How sweet and a blessing to hear!
The day that I showed my mother that automatic wind up eye pencils usually have a built in sharpener in the end…
She was complaining about how blunt they always got after use and how much she liked having a sharp point but she guessed she couldn’t have everything she wanted in an eyeliner, oh well and I went “Watch this,” and pulled the end off the pencil off and lo and behold there was a tiny sharpener mechanism built into the end and I went right ahead sharpened her retractable pencil for her… from the look on her face, you would have thought I’d performed a miracle so amazing the Vatican would be calling me. Then she hugged me, told me she loved me and gave me tea and cookies. It was a good day.
(also, as I was leaving, she thanked me again and I cheekily said, “Well, some of us learned how to sharpen pencils on our first day at school,” and she whapped me upside the head in a very loving way) 😉
I have a passingly similar story to yours Christine (without all the glamour of visiting a lab and working one on one with color magicians). There’s an indie company name Aromaleigh, and she does “Goddess of the Month” face products (blush, highlighter). She sometimes takes suggestions on an entity and color combination. I decided to suggest one once, and she went with my submission. It’s still available on her website, and I’m really pleased about how it came out (I also got free full-sized container of “my” color, naturally). 🙂
Can you link to it please? I’d love to see it!
I’d love to see it, too!
So good! You will be very proud of yourself! Has the product the name Alecto?
The lipstick I wore to my very first concert, Revlon Scarlet Fantasy.
Nearly 30 years ago, when I was 15, I went to see Marc Almond on his “Stars We Are” tour, and I became completely obsessed with his music, even to this day. I have no idea what happened to the program book, and the t-shirt has long disintegrated (from wearing it at least once a week for nearly 8 years, LOL!), but somehow I managed to hold on to that lipstick… It was also my initial venture into red lipstick, and although it isn’t a red I’d wear now, I apparently wore it quite a bit at some point, as it’s one of the few lip products I’ve ever made a significant dent in. There’s actually less than half the product remaining…
I also have a very old Wet n Wild lipstick in 508; it was the quintessential “Goth” lipstick in the late-80s/early-90s, and since it was one to “go off” fairly quickly, I would always end up replacing it, up until it was DCd around 2008, or so. I didn’t necessarily wear it too often, but I just always liked the idea of having it on hand.
I also still have the first 3 lipsticks I ever purchased with my own money, which were L’OREAL Cameo, Grecian Lilac, and Sealily, which were my “go-to” shades before venturing into red later that year.
I guess my most memorable makeup story involved getting into eyeshadow palettes. I was in David Jones, a big dept. store here in Aus., when I saw the beautiful Estee Lauder Sea and Sky quint. I had never seen anything like it before and the blue shades were just gorgeous. It was my birthday and I bought the very last one the store had and because it was my birthday, the kind MUA threw in a small bottle of their Beautiful perfume.
I still have the quint and the shades are still lovely.
I was eleven when I had my first “grown up” role on national stage in Stravinsky’s Petrushka. I had to wear makeup, so my mom lent me her eyeliner, mascara and a lipstick. But she was a redhead with hazel eyes and I’m a cool winter. I still went on with that copper lipstick for the premiere night although it looked horrid on me. I later bought pinkish red for the rest of the season, and never touched a copper lipstick in my life again!
Wow, didn’t know you had influence a creation! Thanks for sharing!
