Do you go through phases with your makeup?

It’s hard for me to get into any particular phase, e.g. preferring neutral makeup or loving bold lips, since most of the makeup I wear is testing new products for wear.

Caroline, I absolutely agree with you 100%…depends on my mood. Other than that, I’ve been devoting more time to skin care trying to battle some skin issues. So if I’m home I do sunscreen only to give my face a rest. Used to NEVER step outside without a full face. Cystic acne was the bane of my existance. Since i’ve gotten a bit older and more confidant, I don’t care if I go out sans makeup. Lol, I don’t know if the above are considered phases.

Not really. I don’t follow trends because I’m at an age where I’ve found what looks good on me, what works, and I really don’t want to go out looking ridiculous or like “mutton dressed as lamb”, as the saying goes. I like a “balanced” face, so no nude lips with a heavy eye or bright lips with a “nude” eye. I love bright lipsticks in cooler tones but I like an eye look that balances them so it doesn’t seem like my mouth is dominating my entire face. My look is pretty much the same all the time – balanced, a bit polished and not over the top in any regard. That just fits my lifestyle.

Totally!! This whole summer, with just one exception, I was into completely clean (shadow wise) or one colour eye look and vibrant lip colour. During the winter I enjoy smokey eyes a bit more, without saying goodbye to my red lipsticks though.

Oh, absolutely! I am usually in some type of makeup phase. Right now, it’s subtle eye makeup using MAC singles with a bold color lip. Sometimes I go through a period of wearing the opposite with bright or smoky shadows and a nude lip. Other times, I go through specific eyeshadow palette or lipstick shade phases. I live my life in ever-changing makeup phases!

Mainly when I have lot going on with school during that part of the semester, I wear little to no makeup and then when I’m finally more free I do end up doing the same thing for a few more days because I’m lazy and can’t be bothered. Lol.
At least twice a year I see myself going through a high-end phase or drugstore phase because during that part of the year there is just nothing on the other end of the price spectrum that interests me.

Other than going a bit darker in the cooler seasons, and lighter/brighter in the warmer, no. On a daily basis, I listen to my skin, and say, avoid liquid lip that day, or use CPSSC or cream blush, rather than powder.

Yes I definetly go through the no makeup makeup look phase a cou0ple of times a year for a couple of weeks each time.

I also have a eyeliner phase where I am very heavy on the upper and lower lash eyeliner in various deep shades of blues, purples and greens.

My standard though is a matte lip that I wear all the time in a variety of colors.

Yes — usually seasonal, though sometimes just mood. Like this morning I realized I need a stronger lip look; probably since I’m wearing more autumnal colors and because I have a bunch of business meetings and trips in coming days and weeks. Phases of greater or lesser foundation coverage are related to skin conditions that are also or related to weather.

Yes lately i’ve been into matching my eyeshadow to my lipstick. So burgundy eyes, burgundy lips…orange eyes, orange lips…etc 😀

I don’t think so. I think I tend to do my makeup based more on a whim than actually going through a particular phase. I do tend to like a fall look but that really is about the only season I change my makeup around. I think like most of us makeup collectors, (insert hoarder according to my ex-husband), I tend to do looks based on my most recent purchases. You know, like the new shiny toy!!

Yes, I go through phases. All summer, I have been wearing minimal makeup since I saw Gal Gadot in “Wonder Woman.”

And I don’t stray too far from a neutral makeup look for work, but I do go through phases of wearing highlighter / bronzer or wearing bolder lipstick. Or maybe doing more contouring and a sharper eyebrow angle. Probably, no one else can tell that I’m doing anything different. But *I* know.

I keep my tones within a tight range, so I guess I don’t got through phases per se. But right now I’m in a matte eyeshadow love affair and not enjoying the satins. Nude lip rather than deep lip is more what I am gravitating to — which is a switch.

I have to say…I’m not sure this is a change of taste or if I’m going through a “my colors are changing” phase. As I have aged, what once looked good, seems to not work anymore. My beloved red lipstick seems to make me look older, whereas a nude lip makes me look fresher — even for going out. Just darken up the eyes, and that works nicely at the moment for evening and makes me feel good.

Yes, I think I do! Even if they’re subtle phases, they are present. Sometimes it’s red lips with pin-up eyes, or deeper lipstick shades with a smouldering eye, or all bright shades all over! Right now? It’s more nude or mlbb lip with neutral or purple smokey eyes veering into the deep and brooding territory. Yesterday was all-warm-everything!

I always am going through a phase. It depends on my mood. Bold lip, neutral eye, neutral lip, bold eye or bold all over, just depends how I’m feeling that day and what I’m wearing. I like to change things up.

Yes, I think I do – for a little while now I have been rediscovering and enjoying neutal eyeshadows and a bright/bolder lipstick, but now that summer’s coming, I will be back to wearing brighter eye shadows.
Bright for me means teals, blues, greens and golds.

Omg yes! Currently going through a shimmery eye, bold mascara and nude lip phase! I’ve bought nothing but nude lipsticks and glosses this past year! I’m a 40+ woman and the rule is to avoid shimmer on the eyelids and wear mattes. I’ve gotten more compliments by wearing shimmers. I say wear what makes you happy!

kellly Avatar

Oh, definitely.
Right now I’ve put away my metallic lipsticks and am using a dark reddish brown every day. It started with an old Maybelline “Buffs” lipstick, “Espresso Exposed”. It looked really nice so I just kept using it. I get an idea – sometimes from a magazine editorial or ad, sometimes from the release of a new product (with good reviews!) and then I use it pretty religiously until I get tired of it or see something new that I think looks cool and decide to switch to something else.

Alecto Avatar

Oh yeah — if I’m not in a phase, then I tend to lack ideas. I’ve done blush phase, odd-colored blush phase, yellow and mustard eyeshadow phase, single-shadow phase, eyeshadow pop-of-color phase, dramatic dark shadow phase, lipstick phase (still in that one), blue shadow phase, heavy liner phase, colorful liner phase, no liner phase (still in that one), unusual color lipstick phase, using blush for eyeshadow phase, and the list goes one…

I’m not even sure what to say I do find rotating my makeup to the darker colors in winter more red or berrie lips or vampy than Summer vitals and soft pinks and lighter shades in general, but since I’m pale like a ghost I look the same pretty much in Summer as in Winter (lol!) I wear it natural, light foundation but divrotate on a daily basis all colors. Hmmm? I think I like the idea more than it will actually show on me?

Bonnie Avatar

I go through phases in what I buy for sure. First it was nonstop nail polish, then gel eyeliner pencils, then lipsticks (pale pink, then white, then purple, then brown), and now I’m in an eyeshadow palette phase.

As far as my look itself, I have my go-to, which is kind of 60s beach babe – pale pink lips, bronze skin, big eyes with black liner, but I change it up a LOT. I try so many new things and I work to do them all justice. I’m a huge subscription box junkie and I try everything they send, even if I don’t think it’s “my color.” I think everything, other than skin makeup, can be anyone’s color if it’s pulled together well and worn with confidence.
