We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! No, I don’t. I find this whole consumer frenzy filled “event” really off-putting. It started in the US and it’s spilled over into Canada and other countries too and, honestly, do we really need this encouragement to buy more and more and more when our landfills are teeming with stuff we’ve tossed out because all these purchases have cluttered up our homes….and then we just buy more and more. Seeing a lot of frenzied shoppers charging/barging into WalMart, almost trampling one another to try to snag yet another tv or air fryer…well, it’s not the most heartening view of human-kind.
Agreed 1000%!!
I totally agree with you!
No, not really. Mainly because we have the Sephora Rouge sale earlier in the month, so I tend to take advantage of that, especially when it comes to products from brands that don’t usually, if ever, go on sale.
I used to, but not the last 3 years.
A lot compared to the rest of the year, but definitely not a lot comparer to others. I usually wait for that period to restock on most things, because I can stack up gifts with purchase, at least 20% discount and at least 10% cash back.
Do you use Rakuten?
Yes, I’ve been using Rakuten in the past 5-6 years; but lately I always compare with the cash back I can get through PayPal.
No, I try not to do any extra shopping at all during Consumption Season. The exception is if I’ve been considering getting something anyway, I might as well wait an extra couple of weeks to see if it goes on sale.
Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales are a bit haphazard here in Aus – some places do it and a lot of others don’t. I guess it’s also because it’s been a tough year for retailers.
As for me -I do a bit of Christmas shopping if applicable and maybe get some skincare products, although there is nothing I really need at the moment.
I usually use the deals to stock up on products I use on a regular basis. I’m looking for a particular % off my total (25%+ is great) and free shipping or else I’ll probably skip. Not interested in free stuff anymore — give me the money discount! There’s plenty of good sales throughout the year, too.
Recently I’ve been seeing less stellar sales around this time. I wonder if companies are just banking on the fact that people are used to buying stuff on Black Friday, regardless of how good the deals are.
No, not really. I definitely don’t go out to the shops to buy anything. I avoid the crowds like the plague. I can’t think of anything worse than being in a shop and having so many people there that you can’t even get up to the merchandise. I will look at online sales and usually for skin care. I try to stock up on things that I use a lot and maybe a few products I have wanted to try but just haven’t ordered. The Dermelect sale is going on now but it is restricted at this point to using an affiliate link and then a code. It will eventually open up to just general purchases. I am going to order their sunscreen as I have heard a lot about it and want to see if the shade is light enough for me. I also want to try their hyperpigmentation cream.
I am also keeping my eye out for a couple of tools. I am contemplating starting derma-rolling and maybe some LED devices but am still collecting data. If an appliance was on sale during Black Friday I would consider getting it.
Being shy & not liking the staff of most cosmetic counters, I live for Cyber Mondays. Plus it is so much easier to focus at home, with a large mug of coffee than listening to the din and trying to muscle my way up to the counter! BTW, looking for guidance on shopping for new nail polish and the real nightmare: fragrance. I adore AERIN’s Tuberose le Soir, but I’m not sure if I love it worth $260…
If there are any sets I’m interested in. This year there are none for me. The Sephora sale took care of that….
Nooooo, it’s way too overwhelming. If I’m after something specific I’ll look for it though (usually online, there’s no way I am going to a store that entire weekend, hahaha), and I like to participate in Small Business Saturday (again, online only).
Years ago, my friends would get up at midnight and pregame in the parking lot until the doors opened at three and then off they’d scramble. I don’t think it was ever fruitful for them. Maybe it was just about the excitement of it all. For me, it’s always only ever been online if I do take advantage of any Black Friday sales, which aren’t usually on my radar. And this time of year if I need or want something chances are it’ll be on sale somewhere online anyway. I do however, start building my Sephora cart after each sale to get ready for the next one, ha ha and I take advantage of Nordstrom‘s half yearly and Amazon’s prime day.
Not really, no.
If there’s something I really need, I’d buy it if the discount is good. I try to buy skincare for example.
Cyber monday deals are usually better.
But tbh I think the best time to shop is right before xmas, or after xmas if you can wait.
I usually poke around to see the sales on staple products like my favorite skincare brands and I’ll see if any place does a sale on fragrance (I feel like it’s uncommon to find really good sales on fragrance, especially if you’re looking for niche fragrances). If the deal is good I’ll usually buy, but I’m not tempted to buy lots of makeup unless it’s to replace a used up/expired product!
I bought quite a bit last year, but it doesn’t look like I’ll be buying much this year. I thought I might buy more from PML, but in the end I only wanted a couple of the quints. She didn’t release anything else that I was interested in this season. Also, a few months ago there was a glitch where the 35% off sale applied to some particularly amazing “exclusive offers” and I stocked up then when the combined discounts added up to about 60-70% off.
I never go to any stores between Halloween. Only the grocery. Today I exceeded 400, with all discounts, loyalty crap and I live ALONE. Avoid the frenzy and burrow, with a good book, THAT candle, and your pet. Fireplace beverage optional.
Oops. Halloween to Valentine’s Day. Amazon exempted. I thought I had cured that habit, but pandemic habits die hard.
Not any more – I think it’s all a big con, especially when they hike prices up just before ‘the event’ then bring them down to make consumers think they’re getting a good deal.
