Dior Golden Jungle Collection for Fall 2012

Dior Golden Jungle Collection for Fall 2012

In February 1947, Christian Dior presented his first collection to the international press in the Dior salons of Avenue Montaigne in Paris. Along with the Huit and Corolle lines that would inaugurate the era of “The New Look,” the couturier revealed another of his favourite themes: Leopard Print. Fashion editors were smitten, the room burst into applause and women rediscovered the mysterious allure of this iconic, timeless print.

At once avant-garde, sophisticated and sensual, the Jungle Motif has been a signature of the House of Dior from its debut. Actress Marlene Dietrich and the muse and friend of Mr. Dior, Mitzah Bircard, were its first fervent ambassadors. With each decade and runway show, variations of leopard print are cleverly reinterpreted by Dior COuture.

In the Dior Autumn/Winter 2012 makeup collection, Tyen revamps the Jungle Motif with another hallmark of Dior, a touch of shimmering gold, embodying the luxury of the urban jungle and inspired by the deep, earthy tones of the jungle.

This collection leaves me flat with the exception of the khaki nail varnish.  It’s definitely different, but the muted shades of the palettes would leave me looking like I had been left out in the jungle sun for too long.  Meow!

Any possibility you will be testing any of this collection? Or is that contingent on your receiving products sent in consideration? I’m having a pang about the Wild Addict Lipstick but am not near any Nordstroms (boooo that Sephora doesn’t have it!) so I was hoping to see swatches, and maybe any dupe suggestions you have.

After two very pretty and classy collections ( Spring and Summer 2012 ), Dior Fall is disappointing ( to my opinion ). It’s ” very Dior ” though I must admit. But it’s very good for my wallet, I’ll pass on this collection. For me it’s good news but Chanel, Nars, M.A.C and maybe Guerlain and Two Faced will eat my wallet next fall.
I purchased the gorgeous eye palettes from spring/summer collections, in between other pretty eye palettes were launched here ( Khaki, rose porcelaine, gris Montaigne etc.. ) the Fall palettes are a bit déjà-vu I think, the whole collection is déjà-vu in fact.

Ohhh.  My heart skipped a little beat when I saw that khaki green eyeshadow palette. <gulp>  I want it! The dark green-gray colour looks fabulous and the rest, in particular the center colour, would go so well with my beloved NARS Night Porter. And her antique gold eyeshadow with the faint khaki tinge in that photo is fabulous! <second gulp> I also like the gold-ish nail varnish, though I suspect there are dupes for that elsewhere. I wonder why they didn’t show a photo of the 3rd nail varnish and what it looks like?  Hopefully, you’ll review these, so we can know about the quality and pigmentation.

I’m such a Dior girl, and I can’t wait to see real-life pictures of the products and swatches! But I’m really fair, and all of the eye makeup looks way too dark for me. I also saw some eyeshadow trios elsewhere; maybe those will be light enough. It’ll be interesting to see how their gold nail polish compares to Chanel’s Diwali! Thanks for posting these Christine; I always get excited to see the previews on your site. 🙂

The eyeshadow quints look lovely but I could happily pass on everything else.  What is the different (besides the Sephora availablilty) between the “quilted” and “not quilted” shadows, Christine? The prices are the same; they both contain 5 shadows. What is the basic difference, if there is one?

Christine-Temptalia Avatar

@Mariella The biggest difference is finish – usually the quilted ones are much more frosted/shimmery, while the other ones are less so – more matte shades. I’d say the regular ones are also a bit drier, stiffer in texture (think like MAC eyeshadows) vs. the quilted have a softer, denser texture (think Urban Decay eyeshadows).

Golden Savannah has my name written all over it! I haven’t needed something from a limited edition this much in quite a while.. I hope it will be available in Europe? x

Love dior products in general but a bit out of my price range. Do believe they are worth it but am now retired and have to cut back on makeup and purses- my vices.
I would like a softer application of the model’s look. Of course, I’m sure they do that to be noticed in print. Golds and bronzes look really good with my blue/grey eyes.

Ohhhh…I was seriously saving for some other brands’ collections but love these especially the eye quads…I have a similar Dior eye quad from several seasons back and actually got regular, daily use out of it (which is very unusual for me because I have WAY too many eyeshadows!!)

Is there really such a thing as too many eyeshadows? Of my makeup obsession, eyeshadow is the biggest contributor.  I love the quality of the Dior shadows.

I absolutely LOVE the campaign image. I hope the Dior makeup line undergoes a transition, as the clothing line transfers from the Galliano era to Raf Simons! That being said, I’m definitely checking out the Addicts. I love that formula so much.

I’m loving that beautiful green khaki nail polish. The brownish-gold quad looks really lovely, can’t wait for the review! Other than that, I think I will be skipping most of the other things.

Hi Christine! I see that there is another Golden Jungle palette called Golden Khaki. Do you know where/when it will be available? Thanks!
