Dior Cuir Cannage (796) Eyeshadow Palette Review, Photos, Swatches
Dior Cuir Cannage (796) Eyeshadow Palette
Dior Cuir Cannage (796) Eyeshadow Palette ($60.00 for 0.21 oz.) is a set of darker neutrals with warm undertones that range from light beige to burgundy-brown. I think it’s one of those palettes that performs better in practice as you apply and layer and blend them together than it swatches. It could use more pigmentation across the board (only one shade really nailed pigmentation), but for the most part, the eyeshadows were blendable and fairly easy to apply.
Cuir Cannage #1 is a plum-tinted brown with warm, yellow undertones and a soft, frosted finish. It had decent color payoff, though the texture was a smidgen dry. It layered and built up well, so it ended up looking better in practice, which isn’t always the case. It wore well for eight hours on me before fading. See swatches of all dupes / View dupes side-by-side.
Cuir Cannage #2 is a light, yellowed beige with warm undertones and a frosted, lightly metallic, finish. It had nice pigmentation, which on smoothly and evenly, and the consistency was blendable, though a smidgen powdery. I didn’t notice any fading until after the eight-hour mark. See swatches of all dupes / View dupes side-by-side.
Cuir Cannage #3 is a medium-dark, warm-toned brown with a matte finish. This shade was interesting, because it wasn’t really powdery, yet it didn’t adhere well to the skin, but it was very buildable and almost too intense when I was using it. It wore well for eight hours before fading slightly. See swatches of all dupes / View dupes side-by-side.
Cuir Cannage #4 is a medium, golden brown with warm undertones and a frosted finish. It had decent pigmentation that had a really soft, blendable texture that made it easy to work with on the lid. It stayed on nicely for eight hours. See swatches of all dupes / View dupes side-by-side.
Cuir Cannage #5 is a blackened plum with subtle, warm undertones and a satin finish. It had semi-opaque color coverage, but it wasn’t as intense as it looked in the pan. It was fairly blendable, though, which is always a good characteristic for a deeper shade like this. On my lid, it lasted well for eight hours. See swatches of all dupes / View dupes side-by-side.
P.S. — Nordstrom started doing this price-matching thing, and this palette is listed at $54 on their site.

I really love those chocolaty colors. It looks like a little box of candy. But the price tag is a bit steep for me.
All the colors are very chocolaty!
The palette photographs ultra pretty and I’m confident I will never tire of brown eyeshadows. But, once on the eye, the palette doesn’t sell to me. I’m less and less interested in higher end quads such as this.
I liked it better applied than when I swatched it, but I wasn’t sold!
Agreed. Too expensive.
It’s a pretty standard neutral palette, but there’s something about the colour selection I like.
Wish the quality was better though.
I agree – wish it was a little better.
This is actually a really interesting color combination for a palette. Although it’s neutrals I don’t think I’ve seen these types of colours paired together in quite the same way. It looks like something to eat, hehe. The eye look you created is beautiful and suits your skin tone really well. Dior Quints are one of those products, like the Chanel Quads, that I debate and mull over because they are so hit and miss. 🙂
Thanks, Kimmy! 🙂
Stunning colors! And the pigmentation still looks okay to me.
Do you think you’ll indulge in this palette?
I quite like #1. I like the look you did.
However this doesn’t tempt me. I think I’m sort of over nude and nudeish palettes for a while.
That # 3 shade must be very odd, it looks so sheer and patchy so it’s hard to imagine that it was buildable and intence.
I think we’re all getting more choosy with our neutral palettes!
True, and we have so many to chose from. I finally bought the Chocolate palette, so i’m set for the next decade, I think 🙂
This one has been all over social media about being the best of the best. I swatched in-store and against my NC45 skin tone there was not enough pigmentation to justify purchase. My wallet rejoices in victory…at least for now.LOL
LOL! Did any of the other quints catch your eye, Shelley?
Yes! From the Dior Holiday collection…eye palettes #746 and #46. Haven’t played with them yet but they so look so pretty.
Good to know this palette isn’t great for NCIS skin. I can save my money. My collection definitely doesn’t need another neutral palette.
Hey, I’m nc50 and I love this palette. I think it lights up my eyes (don’t know else to describe it) and makes my brown eyes look richer. I was actually kind of surprised at the rating because I had no issues with the texture.
Ugh it look sooooo pretty! Do you believe a primer will help?
Thank you
Definitely!
I want it. lol! I think the pigmentation isn’t that bad and I really like the look you put together – i like the warm richness of it. I don’t own any Dior palettes but I’m hoping the Bay will have this to at least check out.
Thank you so much, Brenda! Let me know your thoughts when you have a chance to see it.
Wish I had green-grey eyes, I feel like this would work a treat! Won’t purchase because it’s not the color selection that suits me best, but the shades themselves are so interesting! No.3 in particular, lovely!!!
I’m sure there’s a quint with your name on it 😉
So odd that the middle shade looks so pigmented and intense in the pan and yet didn’t adhere at first and the was too dark/heavy. It’s not the sort of brown shade I like much but I do like the other shades in the palette…I like them so much that I have 2 or 3 dupes of EACH of them!!! Pass!
Yes, it was VERY odd. I was like, “whoa, whoa, what happened?”
Oh, my heart
Are you a fan of Dior’s quints?
The colors are right up my alley but with a rating of B+ for Dior u will check out the dupes!
Hope the dupes help, Natalie!
I think the colour scheme is really, really lovely. But for the price, I expect no less than an A.
I hear ya!
Super chocolate caramel right here! Not for me but really pretty to look at.
Very chocolaty!
Christine, what’s the eyeliner you’re wearing under your waterline? It looks so pretty!!
I don’t remember, sorry!
I just love these colors together! They work very well together and make the palette look so beautiful
They do work well together!
This is actually tempting me more than a lot of the palettes Dior has released recently. I think I need a neutral palette intervention or something.
LOL! 😉
It looks a pretty palette for those who need some more chocolatey colours, but I am over neutrals and these colours I have enough of.
Easy skip! 🙂
First off, you have my dream job.
Secondly, your reviews are awesome. Im definitely taking a second look at some pallets I had in mind for the holiday season.
Have you done reviews on the new bobbi brown products yet?
Sorry, I don’t have anything from Bobbi Brown holiday!
this is a pretty dior palette, the color, texture and shine photograph so beautiful too.. but I always find myself disappointed with dior, they always seem better than they really are & are usually quite dry. Such a shame too!
I definitely think this is nicer than a lot of Dior palettes, though it’s not THE nicest I’ve tried from them.
ii really like this palette. doubt i would buy it as i have many neutral shadows and palettes,
I feel like it’s harder and harder to justify a neutral palette these days!
I love the look of the shades and the palette itself, but if I were going to splurge I would love a Guerlain palette with shadows and blush
Do you think you’ll be making that Guerlain splurge?
Wow, such pretty colors and love the packaging, but I already have so many brown eye shadows. At $60, I wish this would’ve scored higher.
Me too, Katherine 🙁
The colors look lovely, and I really like neutral browns with a bit of simmer to them.
Do you think you’ll get this one, PM?
Christine, probably not. I have lots of neutral eye shadows already. Plus, there are too many other fun holiday releases 🙂
I bought this one a few weeks ago and I would rate it B+/A-. The shadows don’t feel quite as silky as they could, but I think they work really well on the eyes and I’ve never felt like they were lacking in terms of pigmentation. The only shade that’s not quite as intense and “deep” as I hoped is the top left one, it’s surprising lighter than I expected.
Happy to hear you’re enjoying your palette so far, Lulle! 🙂
This palette is perfection! It is everything that a neutral chocolate-y shade should be!! LOVE LOVE LOVE!
Glad you’re digging it, Stephanie!
I do love the colors but will not purchase it given the review. So thanks for saving me some money!! I do not own any Dior palettes but have always wanted one. I wear 6.5 Giorgio Armani foundation, do any of you out there have any palette suggestions for me? Thanks!
Maybe Pied de Poule? I don’t LOVE it, but it is more contrast-y.
I love deeper browns and this looks stunning in the pan! However the colors dont translate as intense on the skin. I’m disappointed 🙁
Aww 🙁
I love how chocolaty it looks in the palette! ^_^ Not super wowed by either the quality or colours (a hair to warm for me I think), but I’ve got to at least give it to Dior that they make you want the thing on sight! On swatch…another story? 😉
A for presentation, a mixed bag o’ letters for performance!
How original! 😀 A neutral palette! If rather see holiday sets of mini Guerlain & Givenchy & YSL lippies!! 😛
It would be cool if luxury brands did more mini sets!
This palette means “leather caning”! Wow with these names!
Interesting!
I’m a big fan of this palette, I like that the whole thing is really cohesive and will be easy to put together a variety of looks from natural to smokey.
Do you think you’ll grab one for yourself, Jenn?
Such a great palette and the example of makeup)))
Glad you liked it, Stacy!
Nice! This is my perfect everyday palette. Oye vey. Decisions, decisions. I need more eyeshadow like I need another hole in my head.
I hear ya, Jennifer… if you’d use it all the time, it might be worth it!
