Dior Blazing Gold (886) Eyeshadow Palette Review, Photos, Swatches
Dior Blazing Gold (886) Eyeshadow Palette
Dior Blazing Gold (886) Eyeshadow Palette ($63.00 for 0.25 oz.) is one of two, limited edition holiday quints available this year. The formula looked like it might be comparable to my beloved Bonne Etoile, but alas, it was not so. I think it ended up being better than some of the recent Dior palettes, but it isn’t without its issues. It seemed like a wet/dry formula when I was trying it, but I couldn’t find anything on Dior’s site about wearing it damp/wet, so the ratings reflect dry application only.
Blazing Gold #1 is a vibrant, medium cranberry red with warm, orange undertones and a pearly sheen. It was richly pigmented with a really smooth, dense consistency–almost like a cream. It lasted for eight hours before fading. ColourPop Drift (P, $6.00) is darker (95% similar). MAC Cranberry (P, $17.00) is less shimmery, darker (95% similar). Blazing Gold #2 is a sparkling, light pastel pink with subtle, warm undertones. It had a dustier, drier texture that was prone to sheering out on the skin. It wore well for eight hours with light fall out. MAC Good Fortune (LE, $16.50) is warmer (95% similar). Sephora Ex-boyfriend (LE, ) is more shimmery (95% similar). Urban Decay Flatline (LE, $19.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). KVD Beauty Instaglam (LE, ) is warmer (95% similar). MAC A Party of Pastels #2 (PiP, $21.00) is warmer (95% similar). Blazing Gold #3 is a light-medium, golden peach with warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic sheen. It was semi-sheer with a thinner texture, which made it harder to get the sparkle to stay on the skin. I would only use this patted over other eyeshadows or with an adhesive base. It wore well for seven hours but had fall out. Milani Bella Chiffon (28) (P, $4.49) is less shimmery (95% similar). Sephora Minx (LE, ) is less shimmery (95% similar). LORAC Cashmere (LE, $19.00) is lighter (95% similar). Too Faced Nude Beam (LE, ) is darker (95% similar). ColourPop Famous (LE, $6.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). MAC Best Makeup (LE, $22.00) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Cle de Peau Champagne Supernova #1 (PiP, ) is darker (90% similar). Anastasia Chic (LE, $12.00) is darker (90% similar). Dior Golden Flower #3 (LE, ) is darker (90% similar). Viseart Champagne (PiP, ) is darker, brighter (90% similar). ColourPop Fringe (P, $6.00) is darker (90% similar). theBalm #41 (P, $6.50) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). Too Faced Dearest (PiP, ) is darker (90% similar). LORAC Uninhibited (PiP, $19.00) is darker (90% similar). MAC Night Thrill (LE, $22.00) is darker (85% similar). Gucci Beauty Antique Gold (DC, $37.00) is darker, cooler (85% similar). Blazing Gold #4 is a muted, medium-dark plum with warm, brown undertones and a soft shimmer finish. It had good pigmentation with a soft, blendable texture that applied evenly and smoothly. On me, the eyeshadow lasted for eight hours before fading. Anastasia Pose (P, $12.00) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Tarte Fingerpaint Art (LE, ) is darker (90% similar). Viseart Carrousel (PiP, ) is darker (90% similar). Cle de Peau Stellar Gaze #4 (PiP, ) is lighter (90% similar). LORAC Amethyst (PiP, $19.00) is darker, brighter, warmer (85% similar). MAC Shale (P, $17.00)(85% similar). Too Faced Jammin' (LE, $16.00) is brighter (85% similar). Cle de Peau Cosmic Aura #3 (PiP, ) is lighter, cooler (80% similar). Disney by Sephora Rococo (LE, ) is darker, warmer (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Blazing Gold #5 is an intense, deep taupe with warm, brown undertones and a cooler, grayer overtone. It was nicely pigmented, and it had a very dense, cream-like texture (I would have swore it was like a gel eyeliner). The color wore well for eight hours, but it was a little harder to blend due to how dense/thick it was on the skin. Bobbi Brown Serpentine (LE, $38.00) is lighter (90% similar). NARS L'Amour, Toujours L'Amour #12 (DC, $25.00) is cooler (85% similar). Dose of Colors Out and About (PiP, ) is less shimmery, lighter (85% similar). Lancome Volcano (P, $19.00) is less shimmery, lighter, more muted (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

I kind of want this because its all my favorite colors, but that also means I have a bunch of dupes already. Decisions…..
Tough call! Let me know what you end up deciding 🙂
That first shade really makes the palette for me! <3
Oh, yay!
I swatched this in store, and was surprised. It swatches a LOT better than the most recent Dior shadow palettes, so I’m hoping they are finally listening to our complaints and pleas. #5 is especially gorgeous.
Right?? Definitely better!
The colors all say “Blazing Gold.”
It’s a very pretty palette, but not good enough for the money, IMO. I love that cranberry shade.
Fixed!
Beautiful color scheme! But, at this price point a B is not good enough. So, how would you rate it if it were labeled for wet/dry?
#5 ♡♡♡♡
Do you think you’ll check it out, Ana?
What can I say, except that this quint seems way better than Dior’s palettes of recent years, GORGEOUS colors, too. But $63 for a B grade? And only 4 shades at that? Idk. The upside being that in reality, only ONE shade is not stellar! Just hard to say!
Definitely better but not worth it to me 🙁
This looks SO beautiful. I don’t understand why Dior can’t get their formula up to snuff. I also have Bonne Etoile and if they could do it then, why can’t they replicate that? It’s also a 5-pan they should have made permanent!
I really wish they would make that their standard formula – I feel like they change their formula every launch.
Holy moly this is pretty. Do you think it would perform better with a primer?
It might still not be perfect but it looks SO much better than last year’s Holiday palettes! I got one and I regret not returning it…
Wow!! I wish I could isolate Blazing Gold #1, #4, #5 and have that as a trio.
What a gorgeous, sparkly, smoky-eye Holiday look #5 would make!
I can already imagine using a shade like that for a New Year’s Eve party.
This is the first Dior palette I’ve been excited about in a while. After feeling burned by Contraste Horizon, I’ve been wary.
I’m disappointed in the gold shade. I like it quite a bit otherwise.
I’m liking this, and 3 A’s is better than a lot of Dior’s later offerings. What is on your lower lash line?
NOTHING beats Bonne Etoile – it is the gold standard of Dior’s eye palettes. Jardin is pretty good too.
Nothing interests me in this palette as it is far to pink/red for my liking and the gold is a failure. The rest of the colours are very meh. It is a lovely eye look you have done Christine.
I want a Dior quint so bad, they look beautiful to me. There’s just something about them that hits my eye candy bullseye. But the reviews from so many sources I trust have held me back. I have come closest to caving for cuir cannage and Trafalgar square. Now though this Blazing Gold is charming me completely. Christine or anyone else got a suggestion for a Dior quint thats quality matches its price? 😉
Stunning palette. I think that if I decide to purchase this, I’m will try the center color with a damp brush. Your application was beautifully done and beautiful on you.
I’ve never said but I read all your reviews and appreciate your honesty and your sense of consideration given to brands from high end to drug store. Thank you.
Blazing Gold? I don’t see any!!
