ColourPop x Hello Kitty Mama's Apple Pie Set Review, Photos, Swatches
ColourPop School Bus Super Shock Shadow
Mama's Apple Pie
ColourPop x Hello Kitty Mama’s Apple Pie Super Shock Shadow Set ($18.00 for 0.28 oz.) includes four shades–pearly white, light beige, coral, and deep blue–housed in a cardboard box with the collaboration’s pattern on it. The actual packaging is the simple white of ColourPop’s normal products. I received mine as loose products (I didn’t even realize they were part of a set!) with many other pieces from the collaboration, which is why don’t have any packaging photos. All four shades performed consistently with ColourPop’s range–pigmented, blendable, and long-wearing.

Rainbow
Rainbow is a soft, warm white with silver and pink sparkle and micro-glitter. It had semi-sheer coverage, which was more buildable than some of ColourPop’s other glitterbombs. This shade worked best as a layering shade or to highlight the inner tearduct. When I blended around the edges, a lot of the glitter would separate and pull past the area I had initially applied it on, so I recommend using a separate brush to blend this one to avoid getting glitter all over other areas (like the crease), if you wanted that area to be more matte. While it had a ton of glitter, it actually wore well with minimal fall out over a ten-hour period.

Formula Overview

ColourPop Super Shock Shadow is a cream-based formula that comes in a multitude of shades and finishes. The more metallic shades have the most slip to them (they have a “wetter” feel), while the more matte ones have a firmer, more clay-like consistency. Almost every shade I’ve tried from ColourPop has been exceptionally long-wearing (10+ hours of wear, usually there until I remove, even 14 hours later). The pigmentation can vary from shade to shade, but the average shade is quite pigmented.
From feedback I’ve seen from readers, many love them but some don’t like them at all. They aren’t a traditional cream eyeshadow, as they are denser (more sponge-like), and they apply best with flat, firm, synthetic brushes (I like the MAC 242 and 249) for me. The brand recommends using fingers for the most pigmented application, but I’ve only felt that fingers were necessary on a few shades (usually the super glittery ones).
The more matte shades can be on the drier side and vary from medium to opaque in coverage, though they're often buildable. They can be a little hard to diffuse the edges of, though some are lovely to work with.
The more glittery shades have been the weakest to me, as they can be sheerer or harder to apply. Sometimes, they are more pigmented and work like the other finishes in the formula, but often, they are sheerer and only function well patted on top of more pigmented eyeshadows to add glitter. They do, however, tend to have little fallout over time with the occasional shade having a more moderate amount of fallout (but still less fallout than most powder eyeshadows with glitter).

Friendship File
Friendship File is a medium peach with warm undertones and a shimmering, metallic finish. It had rich, opaque color payoff that applied smoothly and evenly onto bare skin. The eyeshadow blended out easily without losing its intensity. It was still going strong after ten hours of wear.

LELimited Edition. $6.00.
Small Gift
Small Gift is a muted, medium coral with warm undertones and a satin sheen. The pigmentation was great, while the texture was soft, smooth, and fairly blendable, but it was the type of texture that was harder to diffuse evenly along the edges as it was thinner once applied to the lid. The color wore well for over ten hours on me.

Look Using this Product
Small Gift
LELimited Edition. $6.00.
School Bus
School Bus is a deep navy blue with cool undertones and fine blue and violet pearl. It had mostly opaque pigmentation with a smooth, lightly wet, and emollient texture that spread and blended well on the skin but had a tendency to look a little patchy/uneven if sheered out, so it was harder to even it out as a crease color. It worked best for me as an eyeliner or all over the lid/outer lid. It showed no signs of fading after ten hours of wear on me.

I have this set too, and my fave colors are School Bus and Friendship File. Oh interesting how you didn’t get any of the box packaging, as it’s pretty. But do your shadows at least have the Hello Kitty logo and lettering on the lid?
You know, I totally don’t recall!
Mine came in a press package, so there was a much larger (maybe 12″ tall) that everything was housed in. I didn’t even know that there were set pieces in it until I went to add everything to the database and saw they weren’t individually sold!
I only like two from this set (Rainbow and Friendship File) so it’s a no go for me, But I can see this set being very lovely for others!!
Money saved 😉
I like this set a lot! Especially the 1st 3 shades. If it’s still around come December, I will get it, I think!
Awesome! 🙂
School Bus is glorious!
It is a rich shade!
I was most scared of Small Gift but honestly? I would absolutely wear that as a blush! This set just became infinitely more appealing now that I could wear all four of them.
I bet it would be pretty as a blush, Sarah!
HI Christine,
The set looks adorable but I already made my Colourpop x Hello Kitty order and passed on it because I feel I own dupes of all the shades.
Anyway, I wanted to just take a moment to celebrate you for being not only an excellent reviewer, but also so kind and considerate to your readers. On one of the other Colourpop x Hello Kitty posts I asked a question about the packaging and I think others may have as well-I noticed you specifically included some info on how you didn’t receive packaging with this set, so mindful and sweet knowing some people might have been wondering about it.
Your site has been such a great resource to me for several years. I especially love the new palette comparison feature you added recently!
Due to some changes in my life and effort to save money, I don’t have much money to spend on makeup in 2017, but I visit your blog daily and I don’t plan to stop. It’s my favorite website.
I think we all already know how much you appreciate us as readers of youe blog, but I just wanted you to know how appreciated you are for not only your great professional service but also your kindness. Thanks for being you!
Aw, thank you Helen!
You must be quite strong if you are able to read daily when you are on a lower buy for 2017! I wish you much luck in resisting temptation, and hopefully, the dupes will keep you shopping your stash 🙂
Hi Christine,
Thank you! I am going to need it. 😀
I have so much great stuff already so the plan is to appreciate what I already have-and figure out what is going unused so I can par down- before adding more to my collection. I think the biggest challenge will be having to pass on limited edition items.
Having a plan should help tremendously, Helen 🙂
Just remember with LE items: there are always dupes. Whether before, now, or tomorrow, there is always something newer and shinier around the corner–for when you can spend!
Thank You, Christine! That is so true-words of wisdom 🙂 Its difficult for me to remember when there is a lot of hype and excitement surrounding a product but I am confident I can get better with practice!
I am in my late 20’s, going to be 30 in about a year an a half so it is time to practice being more discerning, I think.
Nice and reasonable too! I really like the coral and blue shadows. Wish ColorPop would make a palette instead of the bulky singles sometimes.
A palette would be very interesting to see!
These are soooooooooooooo lovely.
They are!
I really like/want Rainbow and School Bus, but the other two colors really aren’t for me! I wish these were available individually!
Aww, darn!
Oh man, I love this! I must get it! I think I like it better than the other pretty set just by a tiny bit. I really would like to get both if I can. But, I think I’m getting this one. That blue and coral!
Glad you figured out which one to get!
School Bus is beautiful. The blue and violet pearl add that little extra spark on top of the deep navy base.
I love the sheen!
These are stunning, really beautiful and a perfect set.
They are!
