ColourPop Summer 2015 Super Shock Shadows
ColourPop Summer 2015 Super Shock Shadows

ColourPop Flipper Super Shock Shadow ($5.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “soft tangerine sprinkled with silver and pink glitter in a metallic finish.” It’s a light-medium, golden orange with warm, yellow undertones and silver and pink glitter. The texture has a very smooth, emollient feel to it, though it tended to thicken when applied to the lid unless applied as a sheer wash of color. I didn’t notice more than a few stray sparkles when I was working with it during application, and then there were a few more that fell during wear, but it was negligible. The underlying color still looked the same nine hours later. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

ColourPop Nillionaire Super Shock Shadow ($5.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “warm bronze with a ton of gold and multi-coloured glitter in a metallic finish.” It’s a muted, bronzy brown with khaki undertones and copper and pink glitter over a metallic finish. It had mostly opaque color payoff with a smooth, lightly creamy consistency that was move around, but the larger glitters seemed to turn the base a little patchy as they moved against the base color. This one seemed to be more prone to having sparkle fall out during application, though once I was done, I only saw two or three sparkles drop during the ten hour wear time. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

ColourPop Shark Attack Super Shock Shadow ($5.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “mid-tone warm coral with gold duochrome finish in a pearlized finish.” It’s a light-medium, pink-leaning coral with a fine, golden sheen. It had good color payoff with a lightly emollient texture that seemed like it would apply really well, but I struggled a lot with this. It swatched so nicely, but it was difficult to apply as smoothly and as evenly on the lid. It seemed like if you have really, really smooth, taut eyelids, it might go on more smoothly, but it always looked a little patchy on me. I tried applying in five separate times with fingertips and various brushes. A flat, synthetic brush still seemed to work the best for me, and it applied better to the outer third of my lid than the inner or middle of my lid. It lasted for nine hours before fading. I was surprised as I have had the best luck with the pearlized finishes in the range. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

ColourPop Plunge Super Shock Shadow ($5.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “light warm beige with a golden sheen in a pearlized finish.” It’s a light-medium, golden beige with warm undertones and a frosted sheen. It had fairly good pigmentation with a lightly creamy, blendable texture that deposited color evenly and smoothly. I had no trouble with this one, and it was so easy to use. The color lasted for nine and a half hours without creasing or fading. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

ColourPop High Tide Super Shock Shadow ($5.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “pale champagne gold in a pearlized finish.” It’s a light gold with warm undertones and a soft, frosted finish. It appears lighter applied, as it has a fairly reflective finish. The texture was blendable, lightly creamy, and adhered well to the skin. It had nice pigmentation and lasted for nine and a half hours. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

ColourPop Coconut Super Shock Shadow ($5.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “bright peacock teal in a pearlized finish.” It’s a medium-dark, blue with a hint of green and a pearly sheen. It has hints of green and blue pearl in it that gives it a “warmer” look than your typical true blue, but it still leans quite blue. The texture was lightly creamy that felt “wet” to the touch, but it was thin, blendable, and easily spread on the lid. It went on with good color payoff, and with a brush, it seemed even more opaque when I was applying it in practice. It wore well for nine and a half hours without fading or creasing. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

Coconut is out of stock! It’s the I was looking forward to the most. Oh well, I take it as a good sign, I love ColorPop, and I really want them to do well.

Amazing eyelooks Christine!

Olivia Avatar

I love my colourpop shadows. I am just still having trouble learning how to put them on :-/ Wow coconut is BEAUTIFUL. I think Flipper is a very cool color too.

Katherine T. Avatar

All are gorgeous, but Coconut is my fave!! If it ever comes back in stock, I’m getting it. Shark Attack is so pretty, love the gold shimmers. Do you think it could double as a blush?

Nicole Avatar

I am about to cry right now because I just got the chance to check my ColourPop order and realized Coconut was missing! It is on the order form and it was in stock for sure when I ordered as I ordered the day or the day after this collection was released. Not in my box! I went to just add it to my order that I was going to place today. But, it is sold out! I am so upset! The prettiest ,best performing, most unique in the bunch! I sent a inquiry to ColourPop asking to be on a presale for this item. Their response may determine how I feel about them. I took the chance on these shadows and got some duds to get some good ones and It is really peeving me that they didn’t check the order thoroughly. On another note..I love the looks you made..But I need Coconut! 🙁

Nicole Avatar

They did charge me. I just looked at my bank account and did the math to make sure. I hope they fix it. I really want the shadow, not the $5,lol. The dilemma I am having now that I am over my anger, is do I go ahead and order the “Sundays in Silverlake” set?! I was going to order it today. But, then, this happens! I am worried it is going to sell out! But, then they may see I ordered and ignore me..lol. What would you do Christine?

Christine Avatar

I would try to give them the benefit of the doubt until they have a chance to resolve it, and only when that response isn’t satisfying then would I start thinking differently (and I would give it a few days, especially as it is end of the week, they just did a bunch of media for their 1-year anniversary, and this weekend is Memorial weekend, so it wouldn’t surprise me if they were slower to respond). Basically, mistakes happen. I have had many, many orders with problems over the years from retailers larger and small, and at the end of the day, I’m more concerned with the resolution. Nordstrom shipped me a Cle de Peau foundation pan when I ordered a lipstick from another brand (or something like that — basically COMPLETELY unrelated!), so things can go awry in the process even with retailers that are really large and customer-oriented!

Nicole Avatar

I hope. I would hate to have to stop buying their stuff! You know how much I love it! I would hope they are smart enough that they see that I am a regular customer who spends a lot and they do.

Nicole Avatar

Thanks Christine! Yay! You are the best ever! I wish I could comne hug you!lol!I actually heard back from them. I found out they reply much quicker if you email them vs. the inquiry through the website. After I emailed them, I received a reply within 15 min. They basically gave me a $5 credit since Coconut is OOS and they don’t have a date and don’t do pre-sales. So,I will just stalk the site for Coconut along woth Boba. I also have to add the Sundays in Silverlake set too! Ugh! I knew I should not have hesitated on that..or maybe it’s for the best. Anyway, I will keep them in my good graces because like you said, people make mistakes and it’s an eyeshadow, not a lung.I probably should stay off their site. I wind up dropping at least $100 or more every time I go to buy something. Then I found myself reading the FAQ section and noticed the shelf-life of the products to be 1 year..uh-oh. I have some from Christmas-time that I haven’t touched since then! Operation organization needs to be in full-effect! Thanks again! Fyi,each time I place an order,in the section where it asks where you heard about them, I always put “Temptalia.com- Please do a collab with Christine!”. I hope you consider if approached-which I am sure you will be 😀

Blue is definitely prominent in my collection as its often part of my go-to looks. Definitely I have similar shades of blue, but Coconut really is special and works SO well with other blues. I’ve played with it with NARS Giove/Outremer, Sugarpill’s Royal Sugar/Holy Ghost/Candy Crush/Afterparty, UD Chaos, ColourPop’s Kimono/Etiquette/Taco, Armani Minuit, and many other lovely and intense blues and it works fabulous with everything for me. Seems every purple works with it and teals and greens make the teal flecks pop. I really hope it comes back in stock for everyone soon! It’s the highlight of this release for me.

Connie Avatar

I trust your reviews implicitly! Looks like despite the awesome color I’ll be skipping Shark Attack 🙁 Did I miss your bronzer reviews yet or are those coming soon? Thanks for all you do!

Sally Avatar

Thank you for your throughout reviews and your photos. You are so talented with eye makeup. You give me great ideas and inspiration. This is a great blog. So glad I found it!

Celia Avatar

Admittedly I bought Shark Attack for the name (in my spare time, I’m a shark conservationist volunteer. They’re my favorite animals and I’m so lucky having spent time swimming with them and helping them get their tags). It is not ColourPop’s best coral-y color, which they are usually very good at. However, it layers beautifully with many Sugarpill shades like Charmed, Charmy, Kitten Parade, and Pastelle or other lovely corals and peachy tones (OCC Glisten works very well with it). But Coconut and High Tide are just SO GOOD that they are now two of my favorites in my CP collection, period. I hope Coconut comes back in stock for everyone wanting it ASAP! It is such a lovely, fun, and unique blue. My blue collection is pretty large since blues are often part of my daily looks (cobalt and lavender together forever!) and Coconut feels special in it. High Tide is just a perfect champagne for me that shows up beautifully white-gold. Goes with everything and really brights on the inner corner. Flipper is a lovely color and fun to play with, but CP has others like Sunnies that get me more excited.

Love how Peridot looks here, Christine! That shade has been heavy in my rotation lately. A happy color. Makes your eye color POP.

Christine Avatar

Loved the name, too. Husband always liked sharks, so we have some shark-things around the house (my fave is our wedding topper… two sharks). How very cool (and generous) that you work as a conservationist in your spare time.

I kept fussing with it, because the texture just doesn’t say, “I’m not going to apply well” but I couldn’t get it to work quite as I wanted it to!

Celia Avatar

Shark cake topper is the actual best thing ever. So cute! And thank you 🙂 They’re awesome animals and such an important part of the ocean working at all. That’s what happened to me as well. It just wouldn’t apply how I wanted it and mine patched up on me too. It’s a fussy one.

Kirsten Avatar

A lot of the swatches on the Colourpop site have looked kind of… ashy to me the past few months. Almost like the pigment isn’t as dense as it used to be. It might just be the lighter colors coming out or they’re swatching differently, but for creamy shadows they just don’t seem as rich as they used to be.

Christine Avatar

Hmm, I don’t know if that’s really true – lots of As still! I think their matte finish is least consistent or has the most “issues” and that finish did dominate their spring release, so maybe that’s why? Their highlighters and blushes have been quite good, and several of their collaboration eyeshadows outside of the spring pastels were also well-rated.

Lura Avatar

I could be wrong here.. but I think Coconut is named after Zazu, the little bird from The Lion King. It’s just about the same color as him, and on the description page they have the “I’ve got a lovely bunch of coconuts” song that he sings. ^_^

Bianca Avatar

I ordered Shark Attack, Flipper and Nillionaire and I am pretty excited!! Have you ever tried applying these shadows with a damp beauty sponge? I use the tip of my Real Techniques sponge to apply ColourPop shadows all over my lids all the time and I found that to be the best way if I am not using my fingers. The sponge picks up the products and deposits it without a problem and i find it soooo easy to build and blend! I even use the sponge for the highlighters and I love the way they look! I’m even thinking about getting the micro beauty blenders to use for these shadows since they are small and I think they’ll be perfect to use with these shadows.

Celia Avatar

Hm. I will definitely use my micro bb’s the next time I apply a ColourPop look. I can definitely see the two working very well together. I usually use mine for cleanup and getting specific shapes and I can definitely see the consistency of the blender working well. Love the micros. Though of course the tip of a regular-sized bb would be great for those uninterested in the micros. Thanks for the idea 😀

Stacy Avatar

Woohoo! Coconut is back in stock! And… well, I’ve never owned a coral eye shadow, and Shark Attack looks like it would work so prettylike with Coconut…. And I *neeeded* that matte neutral brown at the top of the list of new arrivals. And some of those matte pastels look so pretty and summery. And I’ve finally given up on the Lippies, so I won’t be tempted to spend money on those, and… and…. oy vey! Another order placed; seven more shadows on the way home to me.
