ColourPop Not a Box of Chocolates Collection Swatches

ColourPop Not a Box of Chocolates Collection released earlier this month and included a new palette, three Fresh Kiss Lip Lacquers, and four Lux Lipsticks. Here are swatches of the new launch!

They just HAD TO add a pressed glitter, didn’t they. Ugh. The palette itself is filled with shades that most of us regulars here probably have a couple times over. However, I’m digging the lip products! Definitely want Macadamia and Hazelnuts About You!
…and here’s me thinking “as warm palettes go, I really like this one” (not that Colour Pop is readily available for me). Which one is the pressed glitter, Nancy? I’m guessing it’s PB Brittle.
Yep! It’s the PB Brittle one, sad to say.
There is lot of overlap in the palette, could have been a 9 or 10-pan…
I really like that Cherry Cordial color. This palette is really tempting me with its toasty fall/winter vibes.
Pretty lip sticks in this collection. I like the palette too but I have those colors already. Will add “Fudge Yeah” lol lip lacquer to my Colourpop cart.
Me before seeing swatches: “Oh no, not another ‘chocolate bar’ palette…”
Me after seeing swatches: “Okay maybe I *do* need more browns in my life!”
I really like the Fudge Yeah and Macadamia lip colors as well!
Ok – now CP has my attention with the kind of shades that I like – not a pink, red, orange, matte black in there. And the lipsticks look pretty good too, especially La Vida Mocha and Ganache Queen.
I saw you when I saw this palette.
The only shade that caught my eye was 90% Cacao. The rest…meh.
These are pretty shades, and I found myself tempted but I saw a Youtube review of this where the reviewer said, “Honestly, if you have Colourpop’s Bare Necessities, you don’t need this.” She did give it high marks otherwise, but I did a palette comparison here on Temptalia and reluctantly concluded that I need to pull out my Bare Necessities and make better use of that instead. I do think I might pick up one or two of the Lip Lacquers — maybe Macadamia.
I have few brown lipsticks and don’t use them often enough to buy one more. That said, Double Espresso is gorgeous, the swatch didn’t impress me, but on the lips it’s beautiful. Ganache Queen is also pretty, but I think it may be too warm for me.
I also really like Macadamia, I’m not sure I’d like it on my lips but the lip swatch makes me really want it. Macadamia happens to be my favourite nut, though I hardly ever find any here, sometimes I find a little bag, but then they are salted and I want them natural. The are also ridiculously expensive. And now I crave some, so I’m going to eat something and try to forget the nuts. Nuts, eh? 🙂
The satin-y shimmers here caught my eye. I don’t know if it’s Christine photography skills but these don’t look too frosty. For any other palette other than nude-ish color scheme, when there are colors so close in depth and tone to each other, it almost seems repetitive. But definitely not the case for browns: Oh Chip and Amaretto; Crazy 4 Cocoa, That’s Rich, and In Truffle.
The lipstick containers are looking so very different. I love my old original lux lipsticks and the blue frozen one. They still feel and look nice and surprisingly the patterns have never worn off. I understand it is just an applicator and this is a cheaper brand, but they used to be so pretty so this makes me a little sad! I do like the color Ganache a lot.
Why???!!! I am just shaking my head. I don’t know, but I’m waiting to see if they’ll find some focus on a texture (like improving the Super Shocks or expanding the colors) or theme uniqueness. I know that that may not be what they do, but I’m just hoping for it.
Has this palette received little to almost no attention or am I being delusional…? Most Colourpop palettes are reviewed on Youtube, but I have found only a handful of videos reviewing the collection.
I can guess WHY, though. Among releases one after another, no wonder it just got forgotten even before having its own moment. But, well, I love me some true, real and not orange/bronze-leaning browns and it is almost impossible to find such browns nowadays! I had high hopes for ND’s Biba, as in the promo images and most swatch photos the browns didn’t look as orangey as they are… But a bit disappointed. So, it looks like this palette will answer my dreams. Now that Colourpop offers free international shipping, I couldn’t resist and grabbed this. Most colours remind me of Morphe x Jaclyn Hill’s Divine Neutrals palette, which I own and adore and I don’t mind having a similar palette as a backup.
Still hoping to review it, but it is a bigger palette so I’ve been trying to get some of the smaller ones out first!
Hi Christine! Sorry if my comment sounded as if it was directed at you. You are doing an amazing job for the beauty community, and I can imagine you have so much to review right now. I meant in general, for example, influencers/makeup reviewers on Youtube or Instagram, much fewer reviews/mentions than I expected. Of course, with so many holiday releases and sale season, they might not have had time yet. Looking forward to your in-depth review. Hopefully, it will get a good score from you, and then I can feel less regret for having purchased it before your review 😅 Wishing you a wonderful day!
Oh, I didn’t, no worries!! 🙂
I see it in my drafts and go, “Gah, I know, you need reviewing!” but then I see the 10 other ones from CP in the drafts, too, lol!
Interesting that this was a fall release. The theme is very Valentine’s Day.
