ColourPop Amaze Super Shock Shadow
ColourPop Amaze Super Shock Shadow

ColourPop Amaze Super Shock Shadow ($5.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “metallic rose gold with [glitter].” It’s a slightly muted, medium coppery brown with a warm, golden metallic finish and a smattering of micro-glitter. It’s very pigmented, but the texture is a little chunkier applied to the lid. This was a shade that seemed to apply better with a flat synthetic brush or fingertips to minimize texture issues on the lid. Once on, the color lasted for ten hours without fading or creasing, but there was some fall out. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

ColourPop So Quiche Super Shock Shadow ($5.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “soft olive with … gold and pink violet glittery duochrome metallic finish.” It’s a dirty, olive-brown with warm undertones and pink and gold micro-glitter over a pearly finish. It had good pigmentation that went on fairly smoothly without bunching up (using a regular brush). It didn’t have show signs of fading or creasing over the ten-hour period I wore it, but there was some minor fall out over time. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

ColourPop Hustle Super Shock Shadow ($5.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “burgundy violet with a matte finish.” It’s a medium-dark, berry-burgundy with subtle, warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. It had decent color payoff, but it needed two layers to be true to pan. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

ColourPop Glitterati Super Shock Shadow ($5.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “icy silver laced with tons of gold glitter.” It’s a cooler-toned white gold with light-medium gold glitter. It’s very glittery, and it was one of the harder shades to work with from all of the shades I’ve tried from the brand. It bunched up and looked thicker on the lid, which gave my eyelid a very textured, almost wrinkled, look. Even applied with fingertips, it tended to look heavy. It was better applied and then sheered out, though just beware that there is a ton of glitter fall out if you blend this shade. It lasted for nine hours with light creasing after that, and it had a fair amount of fall out during wear. This shade was part of the Down with Decorum holiday set, which just recently was removed from their website. You never know, though, they might bring it back (they made several of the holiday shades permanent). See comparison swatches / view dupes.

So for $5 each, these are outperforming Hourglass?? I really like So Quiche– I love Too Faced Don’t Settle, but the 2 are different enough. I have a wishlist of Color Pops that I want to get, it’s a matter of narrowing the list down, checking for dupes in my stash, and ordering them all at once.

Adel Avatar

Thank you for review. The problem with Colopop is that they never get back to you when you email them. I am sort of turned off to buy anything from them.

meganlisa Avatar

I really like this brand and shadows but also had a hard time with Glitterati. It didn’t adhere well and was chunky glittery. But at this price point one that doesn’t perform as well as the rest isn’t such a big deal….

Blue/teal eyeliner is not required for every look, you should switch it up. Also I have some products of this brand and I don’t think your look really reflects the true potential the colors/pigmentation these shadows have.

Alecto Avatar

I think that teal/blue is gorgeous with the color of your eye and is clearly your signature look. I do appreciate that when you’ve created looks from sets or limited edition releases that have liners included, you inevitably work those into the look, but I think it’s always interesting to see how colors work with that bold pop of blue! Thanks for all you do!

Alis Avatar

Blue/teal eyeliner is not required but it’s what Christine loves doing. Makeup is about creating looks you love and that’s exactly what she’s doing. And as for the makeup look itself, my first thought when I saw it was “wow that is so pretty!” much like most of the looks she creates.

Thanks for everything you do Christine. I don’t comment on here often but I truly appreciate all your hard work.

Even if it wasn’t an awesome colour combination (olive +violet), I think I would need to own So Quiche just for the name 😀

I love that look you did with these SO MUCH. I know I say that all the time (because it’s always true, LOL!) but this one really is gorgeous. Maybe it’s the colour combo. Maybe it’s the teal eyeliner. Whatever it is, <3!

You make these look so great on! I am a total copycat of your looks! I have all of these except Glitterati..thanks for the heads up on that one! I do notice fall-out and that quite a few do need to be patted on with a flat brush or finger and then blended like you said . I also find a lot of them need layered..ColourPop shadows in general. They are $5 a piece. I think for the price, they are good. I just do’t reach for them tha tmuch though because I have so many palettes and these little screw top jars get to be time consuming when you have like 3-5. They are nice to have. That being said, I am glad they are low in the price range. Otherwise, I would not have so many, lol.

Nicole Avatar

Warning understood..I will absolutely steer clear if it shows up in the permanent range as i don’t have that one. I do have pretty many. I Like the lippies a lot too. But, because of the twist off packaging , I find I don’t really use these too much because it can suck up more time than you realize when you have 4-5 colors going in a look with those crew-top lids ( I mentioned this somewhere else before I believe. So,sorry for the redundancy). If it’s a weekend or I have time, I will sometime reach for them. But, then again, I tend to to for more of the higher end of my palettes typically. Just depends on the occasion. This are fun and good for a pop of shimmer or color or if I want to do something just fun.I think their negatives are : the packaging is cumbersome to deal with and they are hard to store . But , For the price ,cant be beat. i think for a young lady (or gent) coming into makeup or one on a tight budget..perfect. I think I am saturated with these personally as of now. The lippies, I likely will get more a spring approaches . FYI, I did just receive the too faced glitter glue. So i will keep you posted on my experiment with that product. 🙂

Christine Avatar

I find it hard to get precision with fingertips, as mine aren’t small enough (like getting color on the inner lid with my fingertip is always a challenge and awkward using my pinky finger!), so my go-to is brushes and will only use fingertips if it’s not working with the brushes, lol! The brand says fingertips or synthetic brushes (and the latter makes sense, as these are first a cream).

Rina Avatar

I LOVE your look! You are so creative with color placement. The pop of blue is gorgeous. What a great use of color. It’s so sophisticated yet fun. I’m inspired

Johanna Avatar

I am such a sucker for gold and champagne eyeshadows and I have too many at this point!! But I want AMAZE…. and a whole bunch of other colour pops. Loving that blue eyeliner, might have to go pick that one up! Sephora is like 2 blocks down from where I work.. its dangerous haha.

Lotus Avatar

I think that if they could market these to some sort of palette, which would make grabbing for singles null and void, it would be quite advantageous. Glitterati really quite beautifully brightens your eye! I’d just prefer a solid way of holding ones of my choosing as opposed to a collection of these toking around. Do they depot? I’ve assumed not due to the formula yet I can be wrong! 🙂

Christine Avatar

It would be interesting to see them in a palette, but it would probably be hard to make it as airtight as you might one. I know that some formulas get more slippery when they get put into a palette 🙁

But I wouldn’t depot, just because they probably would dry out. They’re very similar to Chanel’s Illusion d’Ombres/MAC Electric Cool/Dior Fusion Monos.

Ginny Avatar

Nice eye look! You always make it work even when the color grouping doesn’t seem like it would go together. I like That blue tone with that red tone and you tied it together with the neutrals 🙂 I really like Hustle but I’m planning on getting MUFE Artist Shadow in Wine. Do you think the MUFE one is better?

Christine Avatar

LOL! The funny thing is… for ColourPop, since I had so many and shot all of them at once, I tossed them in a box. Then I would go, “OK, let’s test some ColourPop today, and I’d go to the box and pull a few shades to try.” Now, as that box dwindles, the combos get a little odder, haha.

Zamantha Avatar

Not sure if this has been asked already, but do you think it’ll be relatively easy to depot these shadows? And which empty palette would you recommend?

Elina Avatar

I disagree with Patricia’s post. I think your look showcased the colors nicely.
Also, since the liner wasn’t the point of the look, the color is irrelevant.
You should keep wearing blue and teal eyeliner, because its your favorite.

Also, if you sign up for the Colour Pop newsletter thing, they send a coupon code for $5 off! Thats a free eyeshadow or lippie. 🙂

Kirsten Avatar

Aw, Amaze and Hustle were on my wishlist. I’m kinda sad they didn’t perform as well as the others. I already have LaLa and Drift so I guess they will have to do instead. 😉

Bonnie Avatar

Christine, you have single-handedly sucked me into the world of ColourPop!! When you first started reviewing these I was like, “meh, just a new cheapy brand” but since have been totally converted and now have a laundry list of shades to buy (and ESPECIALLY lippies, as lipstick is my weakness lol). And I know I’ll love them because, like you, I have every single shade of Diorshow Fusion Mono (and adore them!)
So! When my husband sees the bill for several hundred bills spent on a million $5 products from this website – “It’s Christine’s fault! She made these so irresistible I had no choice, I swear!!” 😉

Ps – I LOVE your eyelook, and the teal eyeliner knocks it outta the park. Never stop! Your colourful looks are my absolute fave!

Alyssa Avatar

You do an amazing job with the colors you used! I was able to try out my sisters Colour Pop and really like it and wanted to buy my own. I know that there is a $5 off coupon code if you sign up for the newsletter, but it never gave me a code to use when I purchase… Do you know how I would get the code or if I might be doing something wrong? Please let me know. Thanks so much!
