Chameleon

Coloured Raine Chameleon Eyeshadow ($6.99 for 0.064 oz.) is a light lavender with subtle, cool undertones and a pearl finish. It had semi-opaque color coverage with a soft, thinner texture; it didn’t feel as dense as most of the Coloured Raine shimmery eyeshadows did, but it was softer and more finely-milled compared to their mattes (in general). It was blendable and easy to apply to the lid, but it sheered out a bit without a primer. This shade wore well for seven hours on me before fading.

The formula is supposed to be “highly pigmented, long-lasting, and blendable.” The more shimmery shades have a very dense, silicone-heavy texture that gives them a creamier, thicker feel, which definitely helps them maintain really high levels of color payoff on bare skin, and they adhere better to bare skin. Some shades take extra work to blend out or need to be buffed out, not just blended, because they are thicker and don’t diffuse as much as traditional eyeshadow.

The mattes have a drier feel with some of the red-based shades feeling almost grainy, but they performed surprisingly well in practice–they were much more blendable and played well on my lids without primer. Overall, the formula has been exceptionally good from the two dozen or so shades I’ve tested so far. The shimmer eyeshadows are similar to formulas like Makeup Geek Foiled Eyeshadows (slightly more slip, blend better, crease faster), City Color Shimmer Shadows (denser), and BH Foil Eyeshadows (less dense).

Formula Overview

$6.99/0.064 oz. - $109.22 Per Ounce

2022 Formula: The formula is supposed to be "highly pigmented" and "blendable" with a "butterly smooth" feel. The majority of the matte eyeshadows were quite pigmented, while some of the shimmers were overly emollient, which resulted in sheerer and/or uneven coverage.

The matte eyeshadows have a bit of dryness to them, though they were pigmented and fairly blendable, but they tended to apply best over an eyeshadow primer, which ensured a better base for them to adhere to. The shimmer eyeshadows were best applied with fingertips or a flat, firm (and sometimes dampened) brush and pressed/patted into place, then lightly blended.

I did not love the two finishes paired together as the matte finish was thinner and more powdery compared to the thicker, denser shimmers, so the shimmers often "erased" the matte eyeshadows when blended out.

The formula was different than the brand's original single pan formula that they originally debuted with, and I preferred their original formula overall, though the new one is decent, just not as foolproof to work with.

Original formula review: The formula is supposed to be "highly pigmented, long-lasting, and blendable" and come in a variety of finishes. Most their eyeshadows are semi-opaque to opaque with a smooth, blendable textures that are easy to use and apply well to bare skin. The shimmers are slightly dense and creamier to the touch compared to the mattes, which aren't thin but don't have the same amount of slip. They tend to wear between eight and nine hours on me.

Flashing Lights

Coloured Raine Flashing Lights Eyeshadow ($6.99 for 0.064 oz.) is a bright silver with cooler undertones and a metallic sheen. It had a denser, thicker consistency that applied best with a flat, firm synthetic brush than a fluffier eyeshadow brush, but I had no trouble getting even, smooth coverage that adhered well to bare skin. It was fairly blendable around the edges. It lasted for eight hours before creasing very faintly on me.

Side of Olives

Coloured Raine Side of Olives Eyeshadow ($6.99 for 0.064 oz.) is a medium olive green with warm, olive undertones and a golden, metallic sheen. The pigmentation was rich and opaque, while the consistency had a denser, firmer feel to it that was like a pressed cream, but it wasn’t difficult to work with, and I didn’t have trouble blending or diffusing the edges of this shade on the lid. It started to show some creasing after eight hours of wear.

Unexpected

Coloured Raine Unexpected Eyeshadow ($6.99 for 0.064 oz.) is a dark jade green with subtle, cooler undertones and a warmer, golden sheen. It had intense color payoff with a cream-like, smooth texture that was denser and adhered really well without the need of a primer. I did have some trouble blending it out, as it had a tendency to look a bit patchy as the shimmer separated from the base color.

Black Moon

Coloured Raine Black Moon Eyeshadow ($6.99 for 0.064 oz.) is a deep black with neutral-to-warm undertones and a satin finish. It seemed more matte in the pan, but it seemed to have a bit of a sheen to it when applied to bare skin. It was intensely pigmented and applied evenly to the skin, but it could have been more blendable–it worked well for intense, all-over color but wasn’t as good for darkening the crease and the like. The color lasted for eight hours on me before fading.

Ooh, love Unexpected, Side of Olives and Flashing Lights! Seems a good formula. Btw the header only says ‘Coloured Silver, Black & Green Eyeshadows’ and there’s no ‘Raine’, I was initially confused and thought there was no brand in the header, lol! Also there’s no info about where to buy in the ‘Where to buy’ drop down menus. But these are easily rectified, and it’s a great review. The eye look you did really brings out the hazel, lovely job!
