Ginger Pop (01)

Clinique Ginger Pop (01) Cheek Pop Blush ($25.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a reddened coral with a subtle satin finish. Ginger Pop blends so beautifully on the skin, and as Clinique touts, it truly seems effortless to soften and sheer out the color, which is very pigmented and true-to-pan if desired. A little goes a long way, but the texture is forgiving and easy to blend out, so a full spectrum of skin tones should be able to work with this formula. The texture is soft and smooth, not at all powdery. It wore well for eight hours on me before showing signs of fading.

The formula is described as “vibrant yet natural-looking cheek colour that looks virtually powderless.” There is some magic at work with this formula; because it feels like a powder but applies, blends, and looks more like a cream-to-powder formula on the skin, but it’s definitely a powder.

Formula Overview

$21.00/0.12 oz. - $175.00 Per Ounce

The formula is described as “vibrant yet natural-looking cheek colour that looks virtually powderless.” The texture was smooth, soft, and dense, so it was never powdery in the pan or on the skin. The blush had good color payoff that was easily sheered out (or you could apply less, as the denser texture makes that easy to control).

It’s the kind of texture that almost blends itself as soon as you start applying and working it onto the skin. The finish became more luminous as I blended the powder onto the skin, but it was never shiny or overly shimmery, so it always looked smooth on my skin and did not emphasize pores or my skin’s texture. Most shades lasted between eight and nine hours on me.

I was waiting for you to review this, and I’m glad you finally did. Ginger Pop is definitely a shade I’m usually drawn to, and I can’t wait to get my hands on it. 🙂 By the way, the look you posted suits you really well, Christine. That pop of turquoise is brilliant!

I just ordered this! Too cute for words! And seeing that the quality holds up made me pull the trigger (or, push the buttons). Can’t wait to see your reviews of the other colors.
Is the Marc Jacobs lip color one of the new ones for spring? The mattes are new, right? Review soon?

Christine Avatar

Yes, it is one of the new Marc Jacobs Matte Lipsticks. When I’m ready to review, I will review 🙂 I don’t like to commit to times or even to really commit to a review, as I want to make sure I don’t feel rushed while testing (as much as that’s possible!).

It’s pretty on you. I’m not sold on the MJ formula yet. Curious to read my review. Not sure I’ll ever bite again on that particular line. Love it on you though (and the Clinique blush…which I did get!!!!).

Looks like a baked formula to me. Your description of the texture and the lack of a metal pan in the compact reminds me of the Physician’s Formula deluxe bronzers, the really pretty ones with the 3d sun on them. I tried to depot one and instead of a pan there was a rubber pad with holes through which the product extruded and attached to the actual compact. I imagine these blushes are much like that.

As lovely as the quality/pigmentation appear, I won’t be buying any of these. This was the only shade I was interested in per the description, “rosy brown”, but it’s… ORANGE! I don’t see any rose, or brown, in the shade…

xamyx Avatar

Well, maybe if these do well, they’ll expand the line? The colors all seem lovely, but they’re all so bright; hopefully they’ll include some subtle shades!

Wow looks so pretty on you, and I love coral blushes but I have so many and wonder if this is unique enough to get.. I agree with another user when I first saw promo pics, I also thought of Physician Formula, maybe it looks better in person. I’m also a fan of your earrings (although I don’t have my ears pierced), do you make them yourself? They would make great gifts.

I’m dying to see that Chanel Intonation crème blush reviewed and swatched, along with the rest of the spring 2014 Chanel make up collection. Also, the coral lipstick is interesting. Wonder if it will be too orange lean more to the pink? I hope the latter. The Clinique flower blush is awfully pretty too. Hmmmnm, what to indulge in?!!!

kellly Avatar

oooh, that’s really pretty. I’ve been avoiding blush for a long time but have been starting to use some lately. This makes me want to go and get one! Very pretty and not too much color.

I’m so glad this came out on top. I had just ordered it the other day, waiting for it to arrive. The design is so adorable. I picked up the Peach pop. Looks like I’ll be going back for more!

I love Clinique skincare (their stuff never makes me breakout!) but I haven’t really ventured into their color cosmetics except for one Chubby Stick (which is ok) and an eyeshadow duo that was a GWP (but I do like it a lot). I think I’m going to have to try some other stuff from their brand, now!

Thanks for the review, Christine! These bright coral colors look stellar on you!

Hi Amara,

We used to have it for a lot of posts, but I stopped wearing pretty much… well, anything but whatever was being reviewed in the post, so I stopped doing it. We also used to put info like where to buy it, was it limited edition/permanent there, but all that’s been absorbed into the Glossover system now. We just adjusted it a bit so that on the occasion where I am wearing additional products, I can put them in that space. 🙂 I think if you look at posts from 2011 or so you’ll see the FAQ more frequently.

I’ve read a few reviews on this product, and the consensus seems to be they are pigmented. I’m confused because I received mine a few days ago…and it’s not that pigmented. It’s rather sheer and takes several layers to get it to show up (I’m very fair too). I’ve used synthetic and natural blush brushes. It swatches beautifully on the skin because it has this creamy powder consistency, but I cannot get the product to pick up well on the brush.
What do you use to apply this product? Maybe I’m doing something wrong?
