Clinique Chunkiest Chili Chubby Stick Intense ($16.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “brown red.” It’s a warm-toned, slightly muted red with a frosted finish. CoverGirl Captivate is a touch less warm-toned. Make Up For Ever #44 is similar. Guerlain Luxure is darker. Guerlain Habit Rouge is also similar.

It delivered mostly opaque color coverage, and the consistency of the pencil was creamy, so it glided on beautifully and evenly. It was lightweight, didn’t cling, and felt comfortable to wear. Chunkiest Chili wore really well, too, clocking in at just under six hours and did leave behind a soft stain. It was lightly hydrating–it won’t replace a good lip balm–but it won’t dry out lips.  I’m not certain why Clinique is touting this formulas having only medium coverage–nearly every single one I’ve tried so far as borderline opaque coverage.

Yes! That was just what I was going to comment on. At the very least, they should have gone with the “chile” spelling so it’s less beef & beans and more hot tamale.

Exactly, I like it a lot but I refuse to buy it because of its name. “Darling! What is that captivating color you’re wearing?” “Why, its chunkiest chili” :/

Christine, I’m on my blackberry, and that greyish cast (with those “share on Pinterest et al.” logos) is back on the pictures of this post. It doesn’t do that for your Guerlain Coup de foudre review for instance, it’s the first time I see it back. Thought I should let you know!

I bought this one on Saturday! Along with Roomiest Rose (which I’m wearing now). I absolutely love them! I’m not one for bold colors, but I tried these on and they won me over. Plus it feels really light on my lips and the color sticks around a lot longer than I thought it would. Plus I got a free gift goodie bag with my $30 purchase at Bloomies!

i regret buying it wen it first came out a few years ago with only 4 colours. now they have expanded the colour range but i have not used much of my initial buy because it is so much n the colour wasnt tat flattering on my skin tone. the smell/taste is also a bit too much. i like their new colours now but doubt i would buy anymore. not until i hav finished my initial buys at least….

I bought this a few days ago. I really like the color, but I think it is a bit too warm for my skin tone. Can you recommend something similar, but a bit cooler?

Actually, I think you’re on to something there! Instead of Chunkiest Chili, they should have named it Saucy Lips…lol even if you started thinking of tomato sauce or hot sauce, I think those things definitely invoke a better image/feeling than ‘chunkiest chili’. I think I’m not even opposed to the chili part…it’s the whole chunky thing. I mean, it’s a rather unflattering adjective for about 99% of the things that you could apply it to lol.

I want to say that the names are the same as when the chubby sticks were first brought out in pencil form that had to be sharpened. However, it was a long long long time ago that I had the ones in the pencil form—actually I think it was last century. GADS I hate when the kidlets say “you were born last century mom” and its true!

I love Habit Rouge so I am sure I’ll love this. I haven’t tried Clinique’s Chubby Sticks yet (I must be the only person on the planet who hasn’t!) but need to give them a try. Christine, are these “twist up” pencils (I hope, I hope, I hope). If they need to be sharpened, chances are I will pass on them. I hate the mess and waste and effort to get a good result.

ya, like i’m wearing chunky chili on my lips, isn’t it sexy? ha ha it is a pretty color, in fact, i love it and will buy it, but if anyone asks what i’m wearing, i’m not going to reply with, chunkiest chili. that’s just weird. just plain “chili” would have sufficed, Clinique!!!

Maybe the medium coverage comes from the single layer swatch. The added pigmentation from repeated layering is the bonus. 😉

Always interesting to see how undertone affects the shade’s wear. This looks more orange-read on you, while it read more brick red on the author of Lipglossiping!
