Clinique Big Blue & Massively Midnight Chubby Stick Shadow Tints Reviews, Photos, Swatches
Clinique Big Blue Chubby Stick Shadow Tint
Clinique Big Blue Chubby Stick Shadow Tint ($16.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “grayish blue.” It’s a muted, medium-dark blue with a gray cast and a frosted finish. Chanel Destination is slightly lighter (but also a cream product). Giorgio Armani #22 is lighter, more silvery, and a powder. L’Oreal Infinite Sky is less gray, bluer. Urban Decay Strip is lighter, more metallic, and a powder. Urban Decay Occupy is darker and a powder. Urban Decay Crystal is lighter and a powder. See comparison swatches here.
Clinique Massively Midnight Chubby Stick Shadow Tint ($16.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “midnight blue.” It’s a navy blue with a subtle, pearly finish. Make Up For Ever #81 is darker, more muted, and a powder. Guerlain Les Ombres de Nuit #3 is also darker, not quite as muted as #81 but more so than Massively Midnight, and is a powder. MAC Lunar is very similar in color but is a powder. Maybelline Electric Blue is comparable, slightly brighter. NARS Dark Rite is lighter. Urban Decay Evidence is similar but a powder. Chanel Metamorphose #4 is slightly brighter and a powder. See comparison swatches here.
Big Blue was a big pain, because it had a tendency to clump during application–it didn’t smooth out evenly and created thicker, chunky patches on the lid, which only made my lid look wrinkled. The texture was on the drier side, and it did tug and pull at the lid while I tried to lay down the color. I didn’t see creasing really, but it wasn’t readily apparent given it already looked patchy from the initial application. This one skipped while applying, too!
Massively Midnight was much better; it was creamier and less dry, so it applied more smoothly and evenly. It had mostly opaque color in a single pass, so getting a sheer wash of color was actually more difficult than I expected, as it’s just not very blendable. While it wears like iron (twelve hours no creasing or fading, no primer!), it doesn’t budge from the get-go; it’s difficult to fade the edges, blend to sheer it out, and the like as a result. If I heated up the pencil with a blow dryer, it became more blendable.

I am loving Big Blue–I think the greyish cast makes it much more wearable for someone like me who rarely wears colors like blue on the eyes!
Massively Midnight looks nice but I have UD Evidence and, to be honest, I’ve had it with pencil shadows that cannot be blended easily during application. It’s great that they wear well but at the expense of being able to blend them? Not a good trade off for me.
Stick shadows are not a personal fav.. I find them difficult to control during application, they aren’t great for people with smaller eyes, and I rarely get a smooth even finish. The few I do have, I pull colour off with a concealer brush and have much better success all around. Of course that assumes the colour doesn’t dry in the interim :O
Neither one of these colors really do much for me.
I am not crazy about the pale blue one, but Massively Midnight looks gorgeous!
I do have a soft spot for crayon/marker/stick style products, but neither of these shades are something I’d pick up personally
What a bummer on Big Blue. The shade looks lovely in photos and the shimmer is nice. The color is muted, but the golden shimmer warms it up. Looks like I’ll pass. =T
I was thinking the same thing, love the warm shimmer! But if it doesn’t apply well then I’ll have to pass too 🙁
I like the looks of Massively Midnight BUT I already have L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow in 889 Midnight Blue and a sample of Evidence from Urban Decay. I think I prefer Evidence over both; Midnight Blue was for my brows ^-^ (I had ink pen blue hair, wanted brows to match ~)
I read so many glowing reviews of these Chubby Sticks, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on some. I purchased the Big Blue, which is an absolutely GORGEOUS color, (in my opinion – but come on, even if you wouldn’t wear it on your face, anyone would have to admit, the color is so lovely!). However, you (Christine) are dead on when you talk about how awful it is to apply! Patchy, unblendable, dry, YUCK! I was so disappointed. Back to the store it went.
Bummer!! 🙁 Some of them are good, but a few are definitely misses!
