Cle de Peau Satin Moon (305) Eyeshadow Quad Review, Photos, Swatches
Cle de Peau Satin Moon (305) Eye Color Quad
Cle de Peau Satin Moon (305) Eye Color Quad ($55.00 for 0.21 oz.) is a smokier, medium to dark set of neutral shades, which still leans warm-toned, though it isn’t as overtly warm-toned as a few of the other quads. Unfortunately, this quad had one of the more disappointing eyeshadows that I’ve tried from the entire quad range, as it was drier, a little powdery, and harder to blend on the skin. The color combination comes together particularly well, and there’s enough contrast to create a few layered, neutral looks with a smoky edge, so it’s a shame that it didn’t perform better.
Also, keep in mind that the price is for the refill only; the case is sold separately ($25). I keep mine in Z-Palettes with a magnetic strip on the back, which has worked just fine for me! Another way to do it is to purchase one case for traveling with a particular quad but not a case for each and every one you may have.
Satin Moon #1 is a light-medium, golden brown with a soft, frosted finish and warm undertones. It had nice color payoff with a soft, silky texture that was blendable and applied evenly to bare skin. It didn’t fade until after I wore it for eight hours. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Satin Moon #2 is a medium-dark bronzy brown with warm, reddish undertones and gold shimmer and micro-sparkle. The texture was soft but a smidgen powdery, though it applied well and blended nicely. The color stayed on the lid for eight and a half hours with a little bit of fall out from the sparkle. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Satin Moon #3 is a muted, medium-dark brown with a very, very subtle hint of gray with its bronzy, frosted finish. It had nice pigmentation with a soft, blendable consistency that was easy to work with. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Satin Moon #4 is a deepened grayish taupe with cool undertones and a satin sheen. It had so-so color payoff, but the real issue was the texture: dry, powdery, and difficult to blend. It was the type of texture that stuck where it initially applied but was hard to diffuse or blend out the edges–it needs a primer or base color to adhere to help minimize that. The color started to fade after eight and a half hours of wear. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

Compared to other quads, the color scheme here makes a lot of sense, and the neutrals are so pretty. I think some primer can fix the issue with the last shadow. And with my oily lids, a shadow that sticks well isn’t a bad thing ! I’d rather have a shadow stick and be harder to blend, then slide right off. I would like to own a Cle de Peau quad one day (so elegant looking) but given the price, I want more unique shades.
LOL! Man, I don’t know whether it’s more annoying that it dusts off or sticks and doesn’t move. Primer is necessary in both instances, but now the question is which one does it fix more…
🙂 Wallet needs a break! Mine too! But sometimes I can’t control it. 🙁 Thank you for the options, I couldn’t find your original response so I’m thanking you here! I hope you’re enjoying the liners you have! 😀
Agreed Katharine. I’m attracted to this one too and the combo is very pretty and makes sense to me too, but I am confident I could easily dupe this with shadows in my stash. I suffer the same conundrum. I would like to grab a CdP quad some day..will wait until I find the right one.
I thought these were saying “Sailor Moon” but then I read again and now it’s “Satin Moon” and I’m so sad.
lol, aww!
…okay, so I totally misread that as “Sailor Moon” and got really confused and excited about it for a second. I was all “I NEED THIS” mixed with “but wait, Cle de Peau totally isn’t that hip; what’s going on.”
So, you know, now I’m (understandably) crushed. :p
You aren’t the only one! Rikki said she did the same, lol!
They need to win award for their Names. 😀 Such fine marketing for space cadets like me! And if I actually had SOOOO much money that I could donate TONS to every cause, supply shelter, clothing, food and water, and still have TONS.. I’d buy them. I’d probably hire someone to display them in an ethereally pleasing manor. But.. This is not the case. So I’m giving a big thumbs up and ending this with a smile! 😀
Sometimes it’s nice just to window shop! 🙂
Key word: Sometimes. 😀
Ptretty. But, for the price- that really bad one just puts it out of my budget. I could think of so many other things to knock off my wish list !
Totally understand, Nicole 😀
The darkest color turned me off
I hear ya!
This is very pretty. The colors are balanced nicely. Dupable, though.
Thank goodness these have been more dupable than not!
I have this one and wear it a fair amount. I love it paired with the Tom Ford platinum cream and the spring 2015 cream. It layers nicely.
Thanks for the tip, Vanessa!
I really like this quad… but, of course, I have dupes for everything in it. If I didn’t already own a huge stash of earth-toned shadows, this would definitely be hard to pass up. Also, I love the way this looks on you, Christine. The way you’ve applied these shadows is gorgeous! I keep scrolling back to look at these on you and there’s just something so dreamy about how they work with your eyes/coloring.
Aw, thank you, Cat! 🙂
Neutral palette + average performance + high price = a miss for me. Sigh – they look so pretty.
They had such promise!
