Clarins Splendours Summer Bronzing Compact Review, Photos, Swatches

Clarins Splendours Summer Bronzing Compact ($35.00 for 0.70 oz.) is described as “three sheer sun-drenched powders in a chic compact.” Swirled together, they created a warm, golden tan with a subtle golden, satiny sheen–but very, very subtle on the sheen/shimmer. It almost looks matte overall–the only shimmer is coming from the very center color. Burberry Copper Glow is lighter. MAC Refined Golden is cooler-toned, darker. See comparison swatches.

The texture is soft, finely-milled, and smooth. Applied on skin, it buffs into the skin nicely without looking powdery or cake-y. The color is buildable from a soft, golden brown to a deeper, warmer tan (but I wouldn’t call it sheer as Clarins’ described it). It’s a nice bronzer, particularly for medium to dark complexions as there is plenty of color to go around, and for the $35 price tag, you sure get a ton of bronzer. (A lot of blushes are 0.20 oz. or less, and bronzers are often larger, but this is 0.70 oz., which is huge!) When I wore this earlier this week, it lasted eight hours well with some minor fading becoming noticeable just before the nine-hour mark.

Gorgeous compact, and great price for .70oz! Way too warm for me or I would snap it up. Do you know if this is the only shade it comes in?

Just a ridiculous thought but *what* is with Guerlain and Clarins co-opting this Mayan/Aztec calendar aesthetic for their summer collections? I’m seriously giggling at this notion, don’t
mind me.

And let me add- I do think the products are beautiful but as a very amateur observer of beauty and culture I find it curious.

I bought it 1 month ago and it’s a tad bit too dark for my fair-pale skin (a little bit lighter than NC20).. but IT’S SO PRETTY! 🙂 As soon as I get a sun tan, I will use it all the time!

Hi Christine, In your opinion which one of the two will give a more sun-kissed glow – Clarins or Guerlain Terra Nerolia. Also, if I wanted to pick one of these up for contouring, which one would be better. For reference I am NC40-42. Don’t really want to pick up a bronzer to make me look darker/tanned, just bit more “glowy” or with definition. Thanks in advance!

Christine, how is this compare to Guerlain Bronzers in terms of quality? Really wanted the Guerlain Bronzers but too expensive. I’m hoping this Clarins bronzer is somewhat comparable because it is less expensive.

I thought the close up swatch looked really gross and fake, but the colour actually looks very beautiful and glowing in the full face picture! Very pretty.

I know others are subconsciously thinking this so I’ll just go ahead and say it: it’s so pretty I don’t know if I could bring myself to use it.

This compact looks so beautiul, but I know it would turn more and more orange on me throughout the day.

Can you make a recommendation for a bronzer that has sort of a reddish cast rather than orange? I know tt seems kind of strange, but there must be somethin out there???

Thanks!

I would buy it and never use it (mostly because I don’t use bronzers) ’cause the pressing is so amazing it’s a pity to destroy it 🙁

Way too warm for my taste, but wow, the packaging and the imprint is so beautiful… I’m tempted to buy it just because of that haha
