Two things:
Sweet baby Jesus, $50 for a bottle of nail polish?
The packaging is amazing, but at some point, I’m going to end up stabbing myself with it.
My thoughts – exactly !!
Monica.
It’s the kind of thing to keep on your nightstand, in case someone tries to attack you in the middle of the night. To poke their eyes out with. I’m aware that’s really demented thinking
I hear two people can’t be crazy in the same exact way at the same time and the break in scenario is the first thing that came to mind for me too lol
That pricing is outrageous. I want all of it.
$50 a pop? That’s obscene, even for a luxury brand.
Stole the words right out of my mouth! The one in red, ok fine, if you’ve got the cash and you want it for your vanity. But a whole line that expensive? I’ll pass.
You and me both.
50$ is really, really much for a nail polische, but I like the packaging!
XOXO Esmee
The signature red color made sense, but this? No thank you. The design is pretty, but ridiculous and seemingly unhandy at the same time. Also, if the headline didn’t say Christian Louboutin, I’d have guessed Kat von D, to be honest.
I agree completely! These are neither unique in terms of colour nor distinct as CL products.
Ditto. It’s like a signature colour with that design and price (while I wouldn’t pay for it) was “understandable”. But a whole collection that doesn’t seem to connect with the brand? I don’t know. I’d rather they had come out with the occasional LE bottles of the same red colour, tweaking the bottle and/or finish of the red every now and then (for example, added sparkle during the holidays or something).
Yes! Exactly. I was (sort of) happy to purchase the signature color at that cray-cray price, but I won’t be purchasing any more from the line.
I don’t balk at Chanel or RBL but that $50 price tag seems like it’s almost a joke to see if people will pay it.
OMIGOD. I need these all just to have on a shelf in my bathroom for decoration.
Unless 100% of the proceeds go to a cause helping any of the 1,001 problems the world faces today, then this is an abomination. I am ashamed to be a part of the human race.
For real.
You got that right!
Sooner or later there will be a personal-injury lawsuit about that pointed cap, too!
Thanks for saying it! You know these probably cost $1 to produce.
I think what bugs me the most isn’t just the price, it’s that you’re getting less than a full size bottle for the price. I know that CL is a luxury designer brand but paying $50 for that amount of polish really makes it all ridiculous, especially when those are colors that look like they could easily be duped by something a fifth of the price.
A tenth even! 🙂
Are the nail polishes only 0.2 ounces like the top coat is? Because that is almost four times as much as Chanel!
The polish is 0.40 fl. oz.
$1500 to own every colour.
That’s more than my rent, my utilities, and car payment! D:
That doesn’t even get you a 1 bedroom apartment where I live!
What? OMG.
I live in the Silicon Valley (California), which is one of the pricier areas to live in (for U.S.).
OMG. I live in a new-ish suburb of Phoenix. My house, with .25 acre, is less than 15 years old. You would shoot your coffee through your nose if I told you how incredibly cheap my mortgage is. While I would love to live in CA, the cost of living scares me… Lol.
LOL! We Californians are distinctly aware of just how much more affordable housing is in almost every other state 😉
I live in NYC and you could rent a 1 bedroom for that depending on neighborhood (it wouldn’t have to be a crappy/dangerous one either)
I used to live about 15 minutes from Google a few years ago, and rent for 1bd/1ba was $1600-2000 and 2bd/2ba was $2500-2800. I was actually curious how rent has changed, and the pricing has shot up to $2300 for 1bd/1ba and $2800 for 2bd/2ba. It’s not as bad as SF, but when I first started renting in the Bay Area–pre housing market crashing–the cheapest 1bd/1ba apartment in a decent area was $1450.
Craziness. I’m spoiled by living in one of Forbes “most livable cities,” so I’m always shocked when I hear just how pricey some areas of the States get. I remember when a former coworker moved to Manhattan – we were all flabbergasted at how casually she spoke about paying $3000/mo for a one-bedroom apartment!
The only people who don’t seem to be shocked at housing pricing for here seem to be those who live in SF or NYC, LOL. It’s the weather. We are considering moving out of state, but it’s hard to beat California weather.
$3000?!?!?!? That’s CRAZY. I know people don’t like Florida, but I love the weather and how affordable it is to live here. I live in the east coast, center of the city, less than 15 minutes away from Fort Myers beach and less than 30 minutes away from nicer beaches like Sanibel-Captiva, and my rent is $625 for a 2/2 900+ sq ft condo. Though rent has gone up to $800-900 where I live, however, not $3000 craziness!!!
.2 oz. is ridiculous for base and top coat. If anything, there should be more of these products as they will get much more use! Once again, a disappointing indicator that this wasn’t designed by someone with an eye toward the consumer. As I said before, I would be the target market for this brand as a polish collector, CL customer, and sucker for design, but this whole line has been so poorly conceptualized that I just can’t.
50$? ahahahahahahhahahaha
Far too many other luxury brands which are far less expensive that I would reach for. I’m not a Louboutin fan either so they do not speak to me.
One Louboutin polish was a novelty and kind of intriguing to see. But a whole line just looses the appeal. Like others have said, the price tag is not realistic for what you’re getting. You’re basically paying for packaging and name. If I’m going to splurge on polish I’d rather get Chanel, Dior, RBL or Lippmann.
Love the photos, and if I had all the money in the world; sure why not? I am contemplating forking over $50 for the signature red, but I certainly won’t be spending it on the rest of the line! So pretty though!
These don’t look nearly as snazzy as the black and red original polish. Or maybe they look less luxe and exclusive when you see 30 in a row.
Nonetheless, I would totally buy one of the pastel colors. And maybe the original red one.
AMG They’re so pretty I can’t stand it! SO ridiculously expensive, but I want them!
i don’t see any colors that are standout for me personally…most look similar to colors i already have, and honestly i’ve become entirely bored with this product. maybe it’s discussion fatigue, but…meh. i can’t recall another beauty product so controversial and polarizing, but i’m at the point that if i were to spend luxury money on something to look pretty on my vanity table, it would be high-quality perfume in a beautiful bottle or a vintage atomizer or a gorgeous antique mirror or something else much more unique.
Gah!! That spiked cap scares the crap out of me, though!
I like the packaging but I think I’m too practical for these!
Maybe we could use the bottles for self defense? That would make the price look almost cheap. 😀
If it doubled as a nice kitchen knife, I’m sold.
It wouldn’t surprise me if one of these ends up being used as a murder weapon!
I can’t imagine why anyone would pay $50 for a bottle of nail polish. At least if you’re wearing Louboutin shoes, other fashionistas will be able to recognize them – after all, that red sole is distinctive! – but the nail polish? How are these colors different from the colors offered by other companies, at a mere fraction of the price?
I agree, while I don’t like excessive branding, l respect when a brand does have a distinctive touch that let’s others know you’ve bought something of quality. I can’t stand Michael Kors or Coach bags that are screaming out their logos. I prefer classic leather styles that are well made and don’t scream out, “hey, I’m from last season.”
Maybe one in a nude pink because that’s the color I wear most on my nails. But then that’s it. Companies will keep releasing products at these prices because we keep purchasing them. I love all things beauty and fashion. But is there a line that should be drawn at some point???
Part of me really wants one of these. I’m not even feeling that picky about which one. The other part of me it thinking $$$= no. I don’t even paint my nails that much.
Guess I’ll have to wait for reviews.
Those bottles are so damn gorgeous! I really like some of the colors. But I’m not rich, so…dupes it is.
Can I just ask that we please pause and look at the first picture of a total collection? That.. Is sexy. :O aesthetic boner.. Check! 🙂
As much as people are complaining about the price, here in Australia a MAC Lipstick is $40 so $50 seems doable for a brand more luxurious than MAC. It’s not a product I would splurge on for myself, but I think it would make an incredible gift for a nail polish lover if you were stumped on what to buy them.
But imagine if this nail polish hits Australia, it might cost around $80-$100 yikes!
The price tag breaks my heart :'(
Christine, just wondering, how many polishes from the Louboutin line would you plan on reviewing?
Possibly no more additional shades at this time, we’ll see.
Am I going crazy or are there a lot of pastel/nude colours in this collection relative to the bolds? I feel like it’s probably a similar ratio for other brands as well, but it just struck me when I saw the picture, and now I can’t un-see it… 😉 I suspect that a lot of those pastels pinks/white/nudes might look a little samey (although I’d need to see swatches, of course).
Hahaha I just can’t with the outrage about this…I knew this was coming. Everyone was going on and on about the extravagant Lubu red and how it was just such a special product because it was Louboutin and they were making a Louboutin red and it was such a treat for us so they could charge $50 because it was so so special and unique and limited edition…I knew it was a marketing gimmick for an entire line. And now all of a sudden the price is “over the top” because it’s not just a special release treat. Lol it’s just entertaining to see the two entirely different reactions to practically the same press release…coming from the same people only days apart…
The price is of course ridiculous. The one signature bottle had some cachet to it, but 30 of them? Where would you keep these? They are pretty impractical to use as well. The pastel colors look promising, but it’s not something worth looking into. Looks like you could dupe any of these colors with ease, would love to see a post like that just for fun.
It’s one of those things that makes you happy for a second and then you move on. Not worth it imo
I’d be horrified by the price tag, but then I remember that Azature just released a $250,000 black diamond polish and realize that the upper classes have far more infuriating choices than CL’s $50 bottle.
Wow, they can’t be serious with that price. Ridiculous!
$50 each? LOL NO. I’m not buying into this ridiculousness!
Many of those noirs are very pretty like the packaging, but for $50 and an underwhelming signature red… No.
I must admit I like these bottles and the caps are really sleek and beautiful.I really don’t think we’ll be able to buy these here, So I don’t have to think about the cost.
I could only see about three I’d like, and I do have similar colours already. It’ll be interesting to see what else CL will think of 🙂
$50 for a nail polish…and I laughed and laughed…
I could see maybe buying the red one as a laugh and for the fashion history/ reference of it (ie the “Sammy red bottom” first happened when Louboutin, unsatisfied by the look of one of his designs, painted the black bottom with his assistant’s nail polish.)
I just find the price and a whole line is rather nauseating- are we really so label greedy? The amount of polish is so small. I find nail polish to be the beauty product I find most disposable- I want to change the colour often, it often chips whether I wear Essie or Dior and it’s not the skin of my face, near my mouth or eyes (so I don’t have to worry about quality as much.)
I find the Tom Ford lacquer too expensive, and it’s 15 -18 dollars cheaper. I consider Tom Ford, maybe just because of those perfumes, to be the top of the line as a beauty brand. His polishes are a little more than Chanel, Dior or YSL.
You aren’t fancier than Tom Ford, Christian.
I am a pro at justifying purchases…you need it…you really love it…it’s quality, etc. But I just CANNOT stomach shelling out $50 for nail polish. I can’t do it!
My mom gave me one of these last night for my birthday. I’m so excited, it’s gorgeous!!!!!!!
