Christian Louboutin Hawaii Kawai I Nail Coffret Review, Photos, Swatches
Christian Louboutin Beaute Hawaii Kawai I Nail Coffret
Christian Louboutin Beaute Hawaii Kawai I Nail Coffret ($90.00 for 3 x 0.20 fl. oz.) is a limited edition set of miniature-sized versions of the brand’s polish. For spring, the polishes are all shades that are also available in full-size in the permanent range. All three polishes were good and applied well with opaque coverage in two coats (two were nearly opaque in one coat, see below). I get about a week of wear with no chipping and minimal tip wear with Louboutin’s formula overall.
Last spring, I reviewed the nail coffret and mentioned that the brand needed to include a styrofoam piece that fit over the bottles to help ensure they didn’t loosen during shipping (I had a bottle break). I was happy to see that the brand included a foam panel inside the box (and no broken bottles this year!) in the style and spirit of the brand but definitely kept bottles from loosening in the box.
Very Prive is described as a “deep wine red.” It’s a medium-dark red with warm undertones and a cream finish. It had opaque coverage after two coats with a slightly thin consistency that produced a more watery, streaky first coat but looked perfectly even and smooth after the second coat was applied. China Glaze Merry Berry (LE, $7.50) is lighter (95% similar). Chanel Rouge Fatal (LE, $28.00) is warmer (95% similar). NARS Paros (P, $20.00) is lighter (90% similar). MAC Sunset Sky (LE, $12.00) is darker (90% similar). Burberry Oxblood No. 303 (P, $22.00) is darker (95% similar). NARS Chinatown (P, $20.00) is warmer (90% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Batignolles is described as a “cross between a sky and turquoise blue.” It’s a light-medium, green-leaning aqua with subtle, warm undertones and a cream finish. It was opaque after two coats with a consistency that wasn’t too thick or too thin, so it spread easily across the nail without pooling along the edges. When I tested this shade for wear, it lasted for seven days with minor tip wear but no chipping. NARS Thasos (P, $20.00) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). Illamasqua Nomad (P, $17.00) is brighter (80% similar). ILNP Princeton (P, $10.00) is more shimmery, darker, warmer (80% similar). Zoya Wednesday (P, $9.00) is darker (90% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Miss Loubi is described as a “deeply vibrant coral pink.” It’s a bright, medium-dark coral-pink with warm undertones and a cream finish. It was nearly opaque in a single coat, though I applied two to ensure total opacity (it can sometimes be hard to tell until I’m editing). The consistency was just right–not too thick or too thin–and applied well without streaking or bubbling. I wore this one for a week with no chipping and only minor tip wear (average wear for me, no base or top coats). Chanel Fracas (LE, $28.00) is cooler (95% similar). MAC Impassioned (LE, $16.00) is darker, warmer (95% similar). NARS Shameless Red (LE, $20.00) is cooler (90% similar). MAC Vivid Effect (LE, $16.00) is darker (90% similar). Chanel Tapage (605) (P, $28.00) is darker (90% similar). Deborah Lippmann Girls Just Want to Have Fun (LE, $19.00) is darker, brighter, warmer (90% similar). Rescue Beauty Lounge Kellie Gonzo (LE, $20.00) is more shimmery (85% similar). Dior Diablotine (643) (P, $24.00) is darker, warmer (85% similar). Chanel Starlet (LE, $28.00) is lighter (85% similar). Essie Sunday Fun Day (P, $8.00) is darker, warmer (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Beautiful box and beautiful nail shades!
Pretty nice all around!
Such pretty presentation! Love this brand for that! I love Kawai everything This color set does not appeal to me. Pretty though!
At least it really looks like something you’d keep and display (assuming you liked the design), though they are quite large so not sure if you could collect ’em all and display, lol!
True! It is gorgeous! ? 100 to complete my wall. LOL
I can’t justify buying this due to the price, but I think the colors, formula, theme, and packaging are well done.
I get you, Katherine! I wasn’t sure if I was going to buy these, but since they were permanent shades, I figured $30 vs. $50 wasn’t so bad, haha.
Even though I wouldn’t throw down $90 on 3 mini polishes (but that’s just me), all 3 shades are ones already in my stash amongst other brands! And ones I adore come springtime and summer! That gorgeous aqua is my summertime JAM!!! Orly Gumdrop is a fave of mine!
I was thinking while testing these that I would have rather them launch $35 polishes with 0.20 fl. oz. than $50 with 0.40 fl. oz., mostly because I know I’d be hard-pressed to ever finish a bottle anyway, lol!
How is Batignolles compared with China Glaze’s For Audrey? It looks like a pretty Tiffany Blue. 😮
For Audrey is a brighter and deeper/darker – it’s richer, I think, less pastel. Definitely in the same color family, though 🙂
I loved the colors in the set but it’s too expansive for me!
Totally understand!
The colors are very pretty, but nothing I haven’t seen before. I think these are great for the collector, but for everyday wear, I’m not spending that kind of money. I mean, I LOVE Chanel polishes — mostly for the color quality — and I’m hard pressed to spend the $28 that they are now. (BTW Christine, will you be reviewing the new Chanel formulation soon?). As for new colors, today I saw ads for both the Essie Spring 2016 and OPI New Orleans collections. I’ve never been particularly enamored by these lines, but some of the colors this spring are stunning! I can’t wait to get my hands on them; especially at prices I can afford.
They are definitely dupable shades! 🙂
Being born and raised in Hawaii (always lived here), not of native Hawaiian, but of Asian descent (Filipino), and acutely aware of how Asian culture has been conflated/combines by Westerners with Hawaiian culture, this collection kind of annoys me. At least make some colors that actually referenced Hawaii, don’t just slap packaging with hibiscus and plumeria flowers onto something that has permanent and rather ordinary shades in it.
Thanks for sharing, Nai!
Thank you for being gracious about my exasperation, Christine!
I absolutely love everything about these polishes, save for the price.
Does anyone love the price? LOL!
Miss Loubi! <3
Very summery!
the packaging, box everything looks so gorgeous. But the price is just cringe-worthy. Especially when these shades have so many dupes by other good brands… :/
This is pretty much true of any and all products – there are almost always cheaper alternatives. 🙂
Beautiful colors — I especially like Miss Loubi. But the price! Ouch! Especially since polish usually chips on me after a day or two…
I like the box better than I like the polishes 🙂 Good thing actually so I don’t have to “want” something that pricey-
Haha! I hear ya. The box is very pretty!
