The Legendary Muse

Charlotte Tilbury The Legendary Muse Luxury Palette ($52.00 for 0.18 oz.) is a warm-toned set of mid-tone shades in light-medium copper, medium-dark gold, light-medium gold, and rosy brown. I liked it overall, though all of the shades are dupable, so it might be redundant in some stashes but may also be an easy go-to for others. I would have liked to have seen one deeper shade with less shimmer, which would have offered more contrast.

Get a shade-by-shade breakdown of this palette, along with individual photos and swatches.

Legendary Muse #1

Legendary Muse #1 is a light-medium copper with warm, subtle rosy undertones and a metallic sheen. It had good pigmentation with a soft, lightly dusty texture that was blendable and easy to use on bare skin. It lasted for seven and a half hours on me before fading.

Legendary Muse #2

Legendary Muse #2 is a medium-dark gold with warm, orange undertones and a pearly shimmer. The texture was drier and looser, so it was more prone to sheering out when applied to bare skin. It had good color payoff, and the eyeshadow blended out nicely on the skin. I noticed fading after seven hours of wear.

Legendary Muse #3

Legendary Muse #3 is a light-medium gold with warm, yellow undertones and a glittery finish. The consistency was smooth and felt almost wet to the touch, so some of the glitter/sparkle adhered better to bare skin without the use of a primer or glitter adhesive, though without a glitter adhesive, there was still some fall out after seven hours of wear.

Legendary Muse #4

Legendary Muse #4 is a medium-dark rosy copper with warm undertones and a frosted shimmer. It had excellent color payoff with a very soft, finely-milled consistency, which was a touch dusty. The powder was blendable on the skin, and it adhered better than anticipated on bare skin and did not sheer out immediately. This shade started to fade after seven and a half hours of wear.

I swatched this in store, the kit was ok but didn’t wow me. The colors are pretty if you like them warm, and they are good for soft washes of color on the lid.

To me this is a strange quad. I don’t understand the appeal of all mid-tones for quads since usually the intention is more all-in-one. I like to be able to use JUST the quad and not need to bring anything else in. Maybe if the shade selection was more unique, then I could understand. But a mid-tone rose-gold set doesn’t make sense to me. It’s all just too similar. The eye look obviously is lovely on you, but so is every eye look. And certainly potential dupes are near endless.

Celia Avatar

I definitely think quads may be overkill for a one-shade look. Cream shadows and singles work just fine there. But of course to each their own. I just personally find this too easily duped for the cost.

I wonder that too. And I don’t mind the occasional slightly shimmery crease! But there should be at least something to mimic a crease color or a transition color. Like a less sparkly, deeper rose-copper brown. It seems like too high a price point and too many shades for the possible number of looks.

I feel the same way. This palette screams “spring/summer”. Considering the box set/holiday release, I want a quad that looks/feels like Christmas and winter. I love the shades, I’m just not in the mood or season to buy it. 😛

Thank you for reviewing this! I’ve been thinking about it on and off for a while now, but it is a pass for me. I love CT eyeshadows, but this is too similar to what I have and in colors that I honestly don’t wear that often. Also, it’s so odd that these are even the colors, because in the promo pics the quad looks very yellow/beige/sand with the shimmer shade looking almost greenish. Is it just me?

I hesitate between this palette ( I specially like it with the kit with secret Salma lipstick) and the La Dolce Vita palette. I’ve seen nice reviews on this last one.
Which Charlotte Tilbury’s palette is your favorite Christine?

Hi Ana, I smiled when I read your question. This fall, I bought the Dolce Vita to wear during the holidays season and, recently, the Legendary Muse to wear in the New Year. It’s been so unseasonably warm that I’ve worn the Legendary Muse palette more times that the Chanel Rouge 1 palette I purchased this Fall.

You are quite correct on a few points there Christine: it is very dupable in multiple palettes; there does seem to be space for a deeper shade and numbers 2 and 4 are fairly close shades. I thought there would be some fall out with Shade 3.
Beautiful eye look Christine.

I love this palette. At first I was lukewarm about it until I tried it on (my sister had bought it). It is gorgeous. I used all 4 shades and could see the beauty of using just 2 shades. Yes, it could use a matte but I like that it doesn’t. As I don’t have an extensive eyeshadow collection, this palette fits in nicely.

Hello! Thank you so much for the review!

Im so in love with this!
I got one CT (“dolce vita”) and I am so impressed with its formula!
Really can make eye makeup in 2-5 minutes! Blends like a dream, really…

Do you think the formula is similar to this one and to “fallen angel” palette? Ive heard fallen angel formula is like TF “nude dip”…so I can not decide which of them will be better investment …Uh…

What other palette has a similar look to this one in your opinion? (mostly or all soft shimmer shades) This is the palette of my dreams but unfortunately it’s sold out and I’m heartbroken and looking for a dupe!
