Chanel Spring 2011 Look

Chanel Spring 2011 Look

Here is a quickie look I did to test out Chanel’s spring collection… It’s not quite polished/finished, as this was just for testing 🙂

You will need the following…

For eyes, start by applying Smudgeproof as your eyeshadow base all over the eye area with the 249. Using the 239, apply the white gold eyeshadow on the inner third of the lid and pull upwards along the inner crease. Lightly blend the pink-bronze eyeshadow on the middle of the lid with the 239. Next, apply the navy blue eyeshadow into the crease with the 222, lightly blending onto the outer lid.  Blend Trench eyeshadow with the crease shade and highlight the brow bone. Bring everything together by applying Gris eyeliner on the lower lash line. Finish by sweeping lashes with Inimitable Intense mascara.

For cheeks, apply Espiegle blush on the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116.

For lips, apply Aragonite glossimer for a complementing lip.

I tried Nars smudgeProof eyeshadow base. I was not impressed. Your looks are great but i think the colors would be even more vibrant if you used a different eyeshadow base like UDPP or TFSI. I got the Nars at your recommendation but returned it cause the other 2 primers work way better

Christine Avatar

On me, neither of them works as well as NARS Eyeshadow Base – we are all different. 🙂 UDPP creases on me (the original), and TFSI does nothing for vibrancy at all. I’ve always felt UDPP and TFSI mute colors.

I’m sorry it didn’t work out for you – I feel like a big jerk and an absolute failure that you bought something on my recommendation and hated it. I can only tell you that I’ve tried many other primers, including those two, and find this to work better for me personally.

Maya Avatar

I thought I was the only person on earth who didn’t like UDPP – it creased on me as well and I feel like it makes shadows difficult to blend. Also felt like TFSI didn’t make the shadows as vibrant. But you’re totally right, everyone is different! In other news, liking this simple but pretty look! Thank you for sharing!

don’t be so hard on yourself christine! as long as you are true to your experiences (which I believe you are) then its all good. as i’ve said many times I love love love the site!

i recently bought mac stars n rockets eyeshadow and can’t seem to make it work for me either. it comes as a very flat fuschia pink, I can’t seem to make the beautiful bluish duochrome in the palette translate to the eyes. maybe its my colouring – i’m very cool toned but I thought this would work when paired with other colours.

baby in a corner Avatar

TFSI! But i’ve never had problems with it before!! I prob will have to get nars soon anyway cause Too faced don’t seem to be available many places in Ireland anymore. If I can’t get it to work on the eyelids, I can use it in the crease to blend other purples.

Kara Avatar

Ladies, Have any of you used LM Eye Basics? This has been my go to base for years. Seems to make colors pop and no creasing on me at all. $24 but you can find them a lot cheaper on ebay since they are often part of the free promo kits. I am NC20ish, BB 3.0 and the wheat color works well. Thanks Christine!

Tiffany Avatar

don’t feel like a jerk/failure, Christine! you’re wonderful. like you said, we’re all different and products work differently on some than others.

Amanda R Avatar

OMG you’re not a failure, lol! You’re right, everyone is different. I personally love UDPP, but I don’t really ever have issues with creasing/oily lids to begin with, so I am probably an easy customer! I’ve invested in several items since reading this blog and they have all worked out BEAUTIFULLY! I now love 24/7 eyeliners, UD’s Grindhouse, and several of the MAC Tartan Tale items.

Heather Avatar

don’t feel like a jerk. Like you said, we’re all different, what works for someone might not work for someone else. and Sephora has free no hassle returns so I got my money back

nicci Avatar

I had the same experience that Christine had – UDPP and TFSI didn’t work for me at all. My shadows still creased. I tried NARS and love it – no creasing and the shadows last all day. It’s more pricey but it’s so worth it in my opinion. I got a sample of Smashbox primer for eyes and I’m still testing it out.

Anna Avatar

I also had the same experience with UDPP and TFSI. It creased on me and UDPP felt like it dried out my eyelids and it makes eyeshadows harder to blend. I now use Lorac and it’s great, but I wanna try NARS next.

I looooove seeing looks, at least to see you test new products! I have almost an identical skin tone to you so I love seeing your looks. A Cham-pale look would be amazing, but dont feel obligated. Pretty much everything you do is appreciated 🙂

Polly Avatar

I always admire looks you create 😀 They’re amazing!

When I put on some shades that I haven’t tried before, I get some idea from looks you’ve created with those shades. Always helpful 🙂

Malia Avatar

Ahw! But I love seeing your looks…they always give me ideas…and as wonderful as your swatches are, they give me a better idea of how the product looks on (my coloring is the same as yours). I too have been hoping for more looks! Love this one its a very pretty everday look! Bet it would also look stunning with a red lip to dress it up for night!

Marina Avatar

Whaaat?! give me those people! LOL
I love your looks, was wondering why we’re getting less of them.
This one is very pretty and becoming you, your work with eyeshadows is always perfection! I always wonder how you can make ANY shadow look great on you.

Lulee Avatar

WHAT?? your looks are awesome! they have given me so many ideas and i always refer back to them. damn the haters, keep the looks coming please! i just thought you stopped cuz you were busy with school lol.

Roxy Avatar

I always look forward to your reviews and swatches.

Now i can get a general idea on the gris eyeliner. I was debating whether or not to get this because upon reading many reviews about it, most stated that it’s very sheer with not much color payoff.

Thanks!

Andrea Avatar

Beautiful look Christine! I find this palette is like working with watercolor paints. It may not be for everyone, especially those who enjoy lots of pigment, but I am finding it a nice change from the eyeshadow palettes I own and very soft and fresh and pearly for spring. Thank you for all of your work to get these swatches and reviews out to us as soon as you can. I always love to see your looks with the new products and have often tried to duplicate them!! Please don’t stop.

Maya C Avatar

Oh I loooooove the looks feature of Temptalia! On lazy days I browse through old looks and recreate them. I wish you did them more often!
Temptalia is growing so much, Christine! Have you considered having a guest blogger/blogging partner to help you keep up with all the many, many products you have to test out and review?

Dusty Avatar

This looks SO springy and pretty! I was excited to see a “look post” again 🙂 I like these posts a lot! 🙂

Are you done with the seasonal lip swatches? Are we back into Winter again officially? I can’t believe that it’s actually been a year! I’m hoping to see a huge round-up post with ALL of the lip swatches! Not like you don’t have a million other things do to right? 😉 xo

Dusty Avatar

When I was a teenager I used to trim my eyelashes so they wouldn’t bump into my glasses! haha! I liked to pack on the mascara but hated the length! I wanted short, thick lashes! 🙂

Petra Avatar

Love the look, Christine! I was pretty sure I wanted this palette, based on the swatches – now I’m quite positive! And I’m very excited about the texture, if it’s like what I expect, I’m gonna adore it! (I’m thinking something along the lines of the Shiseido luminizing trios?)
So yes, I think 1-0 look with the actual products is usually very useful, I love seeing them too. 🙂
As for the blush…this breaks my heart. Ever since I saw Sam from Pixiwoo wearing it in a video, I thought: whatever that is, I am getting it. I’ve been seeing pictures and swatches popping up, and now I find out it’s not going to be available in Europe. 🙁 Such a pitty…well, at least I got Utterly Game from MAC, though it’s just really not the same effect, these Chanel J.C. blushes are just…better. 🙂

Natalie Avatar

Huh? Whoever asked you to cut back on looks and vids – it is totally ridiculous! I love your looks – they are so inspiring, and sometimes they work better than swatches. You look fantastic with Perlees ombre and boy, am I glad that I got this quint lol

Sally Avatar

This looks gorgeous on you, Christine!
I think I’m going to try a variation of it with Kat Von D Tequila and UD Sin and Gunmetal! Love pinky/grey combos :]

Sandy Avatar

This is such a nice soft look on you Christine. Don’t be so hard on yourself! You are doing all of us a great service and only stating what works best for you. I have tried the TFSI and found it didn’t work for my oily lids. I use MAC Painterly Paint Pot and find that it works best for me although I must say I am tempted to try the Nars eyeshadow base!

Pan Avatar

Thanks for the look! its so beautiful on your eyes.

do you think a little bit of brown will add a bit warm tone to the eyes since the palette is more cool-toned? i’m thinking to mix this quint with the kaska beige quad, what do you think about it?

Carolina Avatar

Looking at the close up of the eye I’m kind of liking it, even though it’s not polished, but the full look works well. REALLY well! I cannot buy any more Chanel, so I’ll just admire the looks on you and say you look great. lol

Jodda Avatar

You can add me to the “I looovvveee your look posts!”
However, they are dangerous. I ended up with three of the Venomous Villain shadows after one of your look posts with it. I wore that combo for so many days in a row, and I never do that. (it was the one with vainglorious, sweetjoy, and de-vil. love that).

NOW look what you did.
I placed my first Chanel order. I loved your reviews and your look threw me over the edge. I would never have looked into the Spring Chanel collection without your reviews and look.
I ordered both palettes, Nakkar, Jersey Rose, and black pearl.
Even before my order has gotten here, I feel like I’m on the slippery slope of Chanel addiction.
I’m so utterly excited.
Thank you for all your time and devotion. It is much appreciated. And don’t forget, people most often speak up to complain. Not as often do they speak of the good. So for every negative you hear, just remember that there are droves of people with nothing but good to say. They just don’t pipe up as much.

😀

So I tried a similar look using my UD Naked palette. It came out nice. Thank you for the idea. This look is so pretty. I hope you will do more looks in the New Year. I can always get inspiration from you.

Pan Avatar

Hi christine, i have a problem with getting this product out from the pan, i used all my brushes, including MAC 239, Chanel #2 and 3, none of them works at picking up the color. so far the best way to apply those colors was to use the aponge applicators. and i really dont like to dig out the product with my fingers. so do you have any suggestions?

thank you so much!

M. Smith Avatar

You look great, I am so glad to see you work with the eyeshadows and blush to create a look, sometimes swatches aren’t enough, I hope you do more.

Claire Avatar

I stumbled upon this look in my Google search for Chanel eye makeup and I absolutely love your look! Since it was a limited edition and I can’t buy the palette- I am in need of your expertise!… Do you know of any eyeshadows that imitate this look?

thanks!
