I know my mom bought Clinique’s famous three-step system when I was a teen, but I can’t remember what the first skincare products I actually purchased were… I want to say MAC because that was my go-to brand, so something like Prep + Prime, Strobe, Cleanse-Off, etc.!

I believe it was a bunch of makeup from Benefit and then a few eyeshadows from MAC – I remember Benefit Show Offs! and an eyeshadow brush (the latter I still have) along with MAC Amber Lights, Antiqued, and Bronze (I think those were the three).

What do you wish you had known about skincare when you first got into it?

What do you wish you had known about skincare when you first got into it?

1.) Don’t believe all the claims (in fact, take them with heaping mountains of salt!). 2.) SUNSCREEN IS NOT OPTIONAL. 3.) Use a good makeup remover to thoroughly remove your makeup!

What do you wish you had known about makeup when you first got into it?

1.) Expensive does not equal high quality. 2.) Don’t be afraid to mix and match across brands. 3.) Brushes are worth the investment (not necessarily the most expensive are required, just that the right tools for your technique + features can go a long way).

Tell us what you love and hate about...

ColourPop

Rave: I love how affordable they are, that they’re on-trend, and they aren’t afraid to release colorful or less traditional shades. Rant: I wish they had a stronger core range of products that stuck around more permanently; even things that are “permanent” seem to disappear after a few months–some shades ARE timeless!
