YSL Golden Contouring (1) Couture Contouring Palette ($47.00 for 0.24 oz.) contains two powders–one for contouring, one for highlighting–in a slim, gold-hued (plastic) palette. The contouring shade is slightly larger in size compared to the highlighting shade. I expect this to work best on light-medium and lighter skin tones; it is just barely noticeable on me as a more subtle contouring pick, and I am light-medium to medium in coloring. Though this is dubbed Golden, it is not overly warm and seems like suitable shades for neutral-to-warm skin tones. It’s a decent to good palette overall, though there are certainly a lot of options in this category across price points.

Golden Contouring Contour is a muted, mid-tone taupe-brown with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. The texture was slightly dusty, though soft, smooth, and finely-milled, that blended easily underneath the cheekbones and along the jaw line without leaving sharp lines. It had semi-opaque color payoff that was easy to apply with a lighter hand or build up with an additional layer for truer-to-pan color. On me, it wore well for just over seven and a half hours. Golden Contouring Highlight is a light beige with warm, golden undertones and a satiny shimmer-sheen finish. The pigmentation was rich, while the texture was soft, finely-milled, and blendable without being dusty or powdery. It gave a very subtle luminance to the skin, where it seemed to emphasize the natural sheen of skin, but it wasn’t enough to show up well in photos (it is one of those products that is better suited for real life than photography). I also suspect it will do more for lighter skin tones than mine. This shade seemed to wear well for eight hours (it’s not really visible on my skin color, so that makes it harder to judge wear). YSL Golden Glow (13) Couture Palette ($60.00 for 0.16 oz.) is a muted, neutral eyeshadow palette with subtle, warmer shades. The eyeshadows are supposed to be “intense” in color, long-wearing, and crease-proof. I like the way YSL’s Couture eyeshadow formula looks on the lid, but it is a formula that really needs a primer to last through the day–so if you typically wear primer, and you don’t already have neutrals covered, you might like this one. The eyeshadows are very soft, lightly dusty but “melt” a bit, where they meld with the skin and don”t just sit on it and look dry. Overall, the pigmentation was semi-opaque to opaque with most shades blending easily. They all faded noticeably within six to seven hours on me, though.

Golden Glow #1 is a light-medium taupe brown with warm undertones and a pearly shimmer finish. It had great color payoff paired with a soft, smooth, and blendable consistency. Golden Glow #3 is a dark brown with a soft, satiny sheen. It had semi-sheer, buildable color coverage, while the texture of the powdery was looser and more powdery. I had trouble blending this shade out on its own as it tended to adhere where it was initially applied. Over primer, it blended much better. I noticed fading with this shade after seven hours. YSL Rosy Glow (14) Couture Palette ($60.00 for 0.16 oz.) contains a mix of warmer neutrals with satin to frost finishes. The eyeshadows are supposed to be “intense” in color, long-wearing, and crease-proof. The palette largely performed as past Couture palettes have, which is with decent pigmentation, softer/dustier textures, and below-average wear but does improve significantly when used over a primer. While I typically like the end result of how the formula looks on the lid, this palette had one major miss–the light gold–that was just sheer and messy to work with, which is not at all the “intense color” promised.

Rosy Glow #1 is a light, peachy-pink with warm undertones and a soft, frosted finish. It had good pigmentation, though the slightly dusty texture made it prone to sheering out more readily on the skin unless it was applied over a primer. It was easy to blend and sat well on the skin. YSL Indie Jaspe Couture Palette ($60.00 for 0.18 oz.) contains five shades in warmer gold, peach, two greens, and then a cooler silver sparkle. The eyeshadow formula is supposed to have “intense color” that is “long-wearing and crease-proof” — to the tune of “12-hour hold.” This formula runs dusty/powdery, so there’s a dryness that just don’t work well on bare skin as the eyeshadows tended to sheer out and fade quickly.

It is more like a loose glitter/sparkle than an eyeshadow, as none of it sticks well to skin–I had a ton of fall out within a couple of hours of wearing this–and it’s better patted over a tacky base or glitter adhesive, though it was impossible to make opaque for me. It sheered out on the lid, unfortunately, and it didn’t adhere well to bare skin–really needed a good, tacky primer to shine. It lasted for six hours. The Glossy Stain formula is supposed to have the “texture and shine of a gloss” with the “long wear of a stain.” I’ve long been a fan of the Glossy Stain formula for a long-wearing gloss with (often) good pigmentation. It had good color payoff with a little translucency that gave it that stained look where the natural lip color comes through slightly. The color went on beautifully with smooth, even coverage that made lips look fuller and smoother (lines were less noticeable–and I was pleasantly surprised the color didn’t gather heavily in the lines!). The texture feels very thin and watery initially, but after a couple of minutes, it develops into a moderately tacky, more gel-like consistency that is thicker and much glossier. On me, it was still going strong after eight hours of wear and was neither drying nor hydrating. The formula has a fruity scent to it, which wasn’t too noticeable when worn.
