Bronzy Neutrals: MAC Colour 4 Eyeshadow Quad Look
Bronzy Neutrals: MAC Colour 4 Eyeshadow Quad Look
This was a quickie look before I went to school last night! I even timed myself and managed to get it all done in fifteen minutes and *not* leave late for class, LOL! You know I had to dive into the Colour 4 eyeshadow quad, just ’cause is totally my style. Really love the colors and the textures–Manila Paper is the only one that doesn’t totally suit me; it’s a bit stark on my brow bone, because of my skin tone (would be lovely on someone lighter), but I imagine it’ll be very nice as a lid color even if I can’t use it as a brow color so much! You could also do a much darker or more coppery/coral lip with this look. I had an itch to use Victorian, one way or another, and thus I went a little lighter!
Happy Thursday! It’s almost the weekend–we’re almost there! 🙂 Though since mine involves major, major studying for midterms, I’m not keen on its arrival!
You will need the following…
- Eyes: MAC Soft Ochre Paint Pot (neutral beige base), MAC Flip Eyeshadow (peachy gold), MAC Aztec Brick Eyeshadow (copper), MAC Creole Beauty Eyeshadow (soft bronze), MAC Manila Paper Eyeshadow (shimmery white-gold), Urban Decay Lucky 24/7 Liner (copper), MAC Plushlash Mascara (black)
- Face: Kiehl’s Tinted Moisturizer (Medium)
- Cheeks: MAC Ripe Peach Blush Ombre (peachy pink)
- Lips: MAC Victorian Lipstick (bubblegum pink with gold sheen), MAC Ember Glow Lipglass (creamy orange-peach)
- Brushes: 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 116 (dense blush brush)
- Substitutes: N/A
For eyes, start by applying Soft Ochre paint pot as your eyeshadow base all over the eye area with the 249. Using the 239, apply Flip eyeshadow on the inner third of the eyelid. Next, apply Aztec Brick eyeshadow on the middle third of the eyelid and lightly blend with the inner corner. Darken the outer third of the lid with Creole Beauty eyeshadow with the 239, gently brushing it into the lower crease. Lightly blend Creole Beauty eyeshadow, with the 239, on the outer corner and lid. Lightly tap and brush Flip eyeshadow directly above the crease to soften. To finish the eyeshadow look, sweep Manila Paper eyeshadow as a highlighter on the brow bone. Bring everything together by applying Lucky eyeliner on the lower lash line and sweeping lashes with Plushlash mascara.
For cheeks, apply Ripe Peach blush ombre to the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116.
For lips, apply Victorian lipstick first, and then layer Ember Glow lipglass for a complementing lip.
Hey Christine! Do you still use the same point and shoot cam that you told me about before? I’m always amazed by the detail of your shots! Love this look on you btw. =)
I use a Nikon D90 now 🙂 Probably for the past year or so? I actually *never* use my P&S these days. I keep wanting to buy a new, ultra slim little P&S to keep in my purse, but I’m like, “What am I gonna use this for?”
Once you go SLR, it’s so hard to go back. The quality is just that much more phenomenal!
Exactly, LOL.
I have a Canon Rebel and love it, but still I can’t seem to get as good of close ups as you! Please give me some tips! I even have it on macro and everything!
Read your manual – seriously! There is really nothing more informative 🙂
that look is soo pretty. i cant wait to get that quad so i can do that look. i love love love the lip combo…i wasnt planning on getting Ember Glow lipglass but i might rethink it to go with the Victorian lipstick : )
Thank you so much, Victoria 😉
OMG Christine I LOVE the LIP COMBO TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW what an amazing combo!!! I cant wait till it comes out in England so I can have the same combo. Lovely FOTD!! Your so beautiful and talented. Love reading you blog!!!

Thanks for sharing and being so dedicated <3
Thank you, Julia!
Busy, busy, busy! LOL. It is amazing how much one can fit into each day!
OMG now i need bubblegum. i knew i needed ember glow. wow that combo is perfection!
oops i mean victorian. this collection is too huge to get the overview.
TOTALLY UNDERSTAND. I have to look at the list a zillion times to make sure I have the right names!
Haha! 😉
So happy you liked it!
This is such a gorgeous look! I totally need this quad now LOL.
Thanks, Catherine! 😉 Haha, if you are a warmed up neutrals fan likeme… then yes!
Very pretty!

Glad ya liked the lip combination, Femke!
Very beautiful! Especially I love the lipcolour combination!
Thank you! 😀

Thank you, Karrie!! 🙂 It will look wondeful on you!
Wow. This makeup is stunning! I love the eye shadows especially. 🙂
Thank you, Sarah M!
Another great lip combo! The products are on my list, can’t wait to get them. And the quad 4, too!
Thanks, Rita! 🙂 It’s totally my kind of quad!
You are beautiful Christine! I must have Victorian Lipstick!
Thanks, Laiqah! It’s a really pretty shade – the way the gold pops is lovely.
apart from the brow color that is, as you said yourself, a little stark, the look is gorgeous and the lips … that combo is soooo pretty !!!!
Thanks, Margot! 🙂
gosh Christine, how does anyone in your class concentrate on what the instructor says when this(you) vision of loveliness is present?! I can’t wait for this collection to hit the MAC store! the Color 4 quad and Nanogold, Hot Hot Hot, Straw Harvest, Perky will be mine!!!!!!! kind of wanting that Very Violet e.s. as well…
LOL! Awww. Thank you, LRW 🙂
Oh, I love this look. You’re amazing, Christine! Have a great Thursday!
Thanks a lot, Christina! You too!
Absolutely GORGEOUS look!! You’re so talented, Christine 🙂
Thank you, Alyssa 🙂
LOVE IT!! I am glad I ordered Victorian yesterday lol! Yaaay! The colours really suit you and your top!
Thanks, Natalie! YAY!
But I am trying to stay away from your quad enabling.. Grr!! I have like 180 MAC shadows and I should have dupes, right? You have to say YES! 😀
LOL!
Do you have Flip from when it came out before? (I swear it was BBR!) The white one could pass for Nylon-ish or maybe White Wheat (I think I have that name wrong…) The coppery one is kind of like a toned down version of Amber Lights. The bronze one is like Romp + Bronze together!
Yeah I have Flip! You are the best.. Knew you know all about MAC shadows!
🙂 No prob!
Natalie, here are swatches of some dupes for this quad:
http://www.makeupobsessed.com/2010/02/15/mac-eyeshadow-dupes-for-colour-4-goldneutral-quad/
love the lip!!!
Thanks, Elif!
Wow! That look is stunning! I actually like the Victorian lipstick better seeing it “in action” than I did in the swatch. I’m generally a little leery of warmer-toned make-up, but you’re winning me over to this quad…
Thank you, KFM! Victorian is such a pretty shade — really love the gold sheen in it!
I think you’ve sold me on the #4 Quad, and maybe the lippies as well! This look is GORGEOUS!
Haha 😉
Thanks, Erin!
pretty!
Thanks, LesleyKat! 🙂
I also like this look but I really really like the first look you did. i love color.:) i am waiting for this collection to reach my country. they probably will come in March.
i love your blog. It’s a big help for me finding in advance the products i want. I don’t want to buy it on the spot and be an impulse buyer. thanks Christine.
Thank you so much, Vanessa! It’s such a good feeling to know it helps you 🙂
Am so getting that quad and the peachy blush -they are so my colours!!
Also loving that lip combo as well -lovely!!
Thank you, Dani!! 🙂
Aww, this looks so good on you, Christine! Love it. I’m usually not a fan of a frosty or shimmery brow bone, but it works amazingly well here!
Thanks, Rae! I like some shimmer, but this is pretty borderline (and a lil’ too white on me), but on the lid! gorgeous 🙂
love this look!! =)
Thanks Jae!
You always do a good job of pairing your eyes makeup with your blush/lip color. The lid color remind me of MAC Expensive Pink.
How do you like Kielh’s TM? I’ve been meaning to try it. If I am NC 20-25, should I get Medium or Light? Thank you!
Thanks, Trinh!
I really like it – it’s a little more moisturizing than my other favorite (Korres), and I feel like I get the coverage I want – it’s still natural, sheer… but it evens out really well. I’m NC25 and use Medium!
Thanks for taking the time to reply to my question. =)
No prob, Trinh!
I love this look – especially the lips! I think you have sold me on Victorian – love the look of it with Ember Glow l/g!
Thanks, Amber! 😉 I hope you love Victorian!
I like your usage of bronzes and golds, usually people don’t use those shades well and it looks scary! Sorry I work in the mall, people at make up counters can’t even do bronze and golds well..they over apply it and look like they walked out of a disco!
Thanks a lot, Bettina 🙂
I find them so easy to use, so I’m totally surprised that you see people not workin’ them so well! I swear… I never see people wearing makeup, LOL.
O my goodness! I knew for sure I was going to pick up the Victorian lipstick and now I might have to pick up that lipglass to go with it. That is such an amazing lip combo. Thanks for using this in your look!!
Aww! Thank you!
LOVE the lips! Does MAC let you B2M for LE lipsticks??
They should 🙂
such a beautiful look!! i ordered victorian lipstick and ember glow lipglass yesterday, but now im thinking i might need this quad,i just looove neutrals lol
Thanks, Jess!!
This lip combination is great. I love how much a lipgloss can change a lipstick. I’m still not gonna get Victorian, because on it’s *own* I just don’t really like it…but it’s nice to see how well Ember Glow turns a really PINK pink into a beautiful coral. I was thinking about getting that one, might have bumped it up my list. (The wait is killing me. I refuse to order new products from the website and insist on swatching in person first, because no matter how good your reviews are I always change my mind a little when I see stuff in person – probably because of stuff looking different on my skin or whatever. But MAN, I hate to wait a whole ‘nother WEEK! I want those lippies now!)
Thanks a lot, Daphne! Aww, I like it a lot, and since I rarely wear lipsticks alone, I guess it works for me, LOL!
But I have NO problem with you wanting to swatch things in person… I am exactly that way. It’s really great how helpful beauty blogs are and that there are so many to view, because with so many skin tones out there, what works for me doesn’t always work for someone lighter/darker (or cooler!)… but it’s all helpful as a point of reference. ‘Cause sometimes I see something that rocks on a cooler, lighter skin tone, but then I know on me, it might not be so super-fab. I’m a big “gotta swatch it first” person!
The great thing your blog does for me (um, or awful thing, depending on if you’re talking to my sense of vanity or my bank account! :D) is introducing me to all kinds of products I’d never think of. For example, my Korres lipglosses, Guerlain KissKiss gloss, Benefit full-finish lipsticks, Stila Barbie palette, BB Pewter eyeshadow….yeah I never would have considered almost any of those without you 🙂 And actually I buy shadows based on swatches all the time…but since it’s the lips that are really calling to me on this launch I want to wait – those vary so much from person to person!
Aww!! This blog has exposed me to so many brands and products… I’ve really broadened my horizons, too 🙂
at first i didnt like this palette but now that you used it and it looks so lovely…i’m changing my mind! how beautiful this looks on you.
Aw, thank you Phuong K!
Christine, your looks are gorgeous, and I must say Im newly inspired to try to dupe the looks based on what products I have!!
Thank you! I hope you find a few you like!
Wow! I love this look. It’s so fresh and natural. This is the perfect interview look.
Thanks, Angela!
Hi Christine! I love your makeup….it’s really beautiful, bronzy brown shades but also some similar coral colors. 🙂
Thanks a lot, Tavia 😀
I’m so glad I ordered this quad. This is very pretty:)
Thanks, Tami! Hope you enjoy the quad!
hey christine! kudos on all the great stuff you do. i have a quick query; which product would you suggest for a dewy finish. kiehls tinted moisturizer or bobbi brown EXTRA tinted moisturizer. oh and in the photos where your wearing BB, have you used anything else? THANKS
Thank you, Ino!
Bobbi Brown EXTRA definitely has a MUCH dewier finish. Nope, just BB and some setting powder (translucent – Laura Mercier).
Christine, you look beautiful! I like the shadows and eyeliner match purrfectly. Ripe Peach was not on my list b/c I thought it was too orange-y, but you look very natural. I am NC30, so I might consider getting it…
Thanks a lot, Hiromi! Oh, no, definitely not too orange 😀
Victorian Peach lipstick is very spring and very pretty.
Definitely agree with ya, Amy!
Wow what gorgeous colors! This quad would make blue eyes really pop, and seeing as how I don’t have any Mac quads OR warm colors, I might have to get it!
Thanks, Crystal!! 🙂
Totally worth it if you don’t have similar shades!
those colors look gorgeous on you! i wish i could wear coppery/bronzy colors but im so fair skinned i think it makes it look too orangey and weird. even when i use woodwinked….. which bums me out because those eyeshadows are so pretty. =\
Thank you so much, Kalee! What base are you using with ’em?
This neutral look is really pretty on you Christine. This quad is a must have for me, along with that purple quad and the purple lipglass in lavender wind.
I’m so glad you liked this! Thanks, Ava!
I just love your pics! The ripe peach looks great on you. So glad I ordered it.
I was going to pass on this quad, but after seeing your photos I think I have to have it! Guess here goes order #2!
Thanks, Nicole! 🙂
So warm and spicy! I like it. 😀
Thanks, Ellie!
YAY! I couldn’t wait to see you do a look with the gold quad! I know it’s your fav colors and we always do our best work when we’re working with something we love! 😀 Looks beautiful on you!
Haha! That is very true.
Thank you 😀
I love the look. I ordered this quad and the blush looks really good on you. I have Nars Taj Mahal, how does this compare?
Thanks, Crystal!
Oh, I think they’re different – this one definitely has some coral-ness to it.
I just might have to get this…I’m getting my tax return soon after all. XD
Aww 😀
Oh wow this look is gorgeous. I love that blush, but don’t think I’ll be getting that or this quad. There’s too much to choose from!
I am getting Victorian. Do you think Queen Bee lipglass with it would create at least close to the same look as this lip combo? Or mayyybe even Love Nectar?
I hope so, otherwise you make me want the pretty Ember Glow, too! 🙂
Thank you Christine 🙂
Thanks, Teresa! 🙂
I think Queen Bee could get you close!
Wow I didn’t know Ember Glow and Victorian would make such a good pair! This look is very pretty 🙂
Thanks, Jenny!
love this look. ill be getting this lipstick….thanks
Thanks, Omo!
Hi Christine,
I love the lip combo, do you think if the lipstick is replaced with creme cup or snob the result will be the same?
thanks!!
It would be similar! I don’t think it’d be exactly the same, because neither Creme Cup or Snob have the shimmer behind it, so you might try maybe a more shimmery nude gloss on top!
as usual, bronze, my fav!!! you look great with this palette!!!
Thank ya, Luisafer!
This look is simply stunning! I’m so glad you do eyeshadow tutorials! As much as I love makeup, I never wear eyeshadow! I don’t know how to put it on! I know, that’s a crime! Haha! Everytime I put eyeshadow on, I look like I was punched in the eye! My eyes are so deep set and I have little space between my lid and eyebrow! Thanx Christine!!!
Thank you so much, Lindsay! 🙂
Just keep practicing – and don’t be afraid to experiment!
I needs this quad! I cant wait until it launches here!
I hope it hurries over to you soon!
Love this look, i think it would work really well on blue/green eyes too which i have! Gona have to buy some of those items!
Thanks a lot, Lucinda!
You are making me want ripe peach blush..I made a pledge not to buy a blush until I hit a pan amongst my 20 something blushes!!! I am NC 42 I hope it will show as nice on me!!!
Have you gotten close to pan on any of them? LOL! I think only my Margin has pan showing.
your skin is amazing! you look absolutely gorgeous
Thanks, Celeste!
Wow, that eyelook is gorgeous! I wasn’t planning on getting the Neutrals quad, but now I am very tempted.
The peach blush ombre looks so much better on than I expected. I suspect it won’t go with my colouring (my skin has cool pink undertones… and overtones), but I’m going to at least give it a try now.
Thank you, Ana! 🙂 So glad you liked the blush!
I’d give it a try – I think you could work it.
